  1. Corelyn doesn't want anything close. She wants to remain out of the spotlight, to be able to do some good on her own, without gaining too much attention. She'd prefer to live out her life, pursue her interests, and do what she wants to do, which is just to learn all she can about everything she can, and to better advance her crafts. Dail'a, on the other hand, beneath his hardass, edge-lord front, is a bleeding heart. He wants to help everyone he can if they truly deserve it, such as the downtrodden or forgotten, and rid the world of anyone who proves they're no more than bad apples. Though he does enjoy the fighting, he wants to do good and to, if not be remembered himself, make changes in the world that will be one day, regardless of how he has to go about it.
  2. There's also a good deal of slave-trade mention and focus in the Rogue quests. It is certainly frowned upon, though highly prevalent by the sound of things. It's very much an underworld activity, but seems to be overlooked in "less scrupulous" places like Ul'dah, whereas somewhere like Limsa Lominsa actually has the Yellowjackets or Rogues' Guild actively flush and snuff it out where possible.
  3. Members (Empire-loyal or otherwise) of the VIIth Legion would possibly, even vaguely, recognize Corelyn. She was one of their magitek engineers and a soldier, though she disappeared after the Calamity at Carteneau.
  4. Aw man. Now I feel bad that I had Corelyn take off so I could play Boardgame Online. X-D That looks like it was epic as hell.
  5. Corelyn is paranoid, to an extent. She hides the fact that she's a pure-blooded Garlean in any way possible, because she's deathly afraid of being found out. While she means no harm to - in fact, she wants nothing more than to help - Eorzea and its people, she fears that being found out - especially about certain aspects of her past (she was "forced", more or less, into the VIIth Legion and fought at Carteneau), would get her outright reviled or attacked. She's immensely afraid of undead. She's prone to either fits of catatonia or murderous sprees of "make everything stop moving" if anything undead or resembling one gets too close or touches her. Being Garlean, she's entirely unable to manipulate aether in any form. While she appears to have an ability to teleport through aetherites, it's actually a one-way return to her workshop in La Noscea through magitek. She has attempted arcanima severalk times with the use of a ceruleum-based ink, but not only is it far too expensive to be useful, it's very volatile. She's blown things up by accident with it before in her 'experiments." She's a little too bold sometimes in the search for knowledge. This has gotten her in trouble before, and hired help/bodyguards hurt or even outright killed in some cases. This is partially due to her attempts at playing off the "helpless researcher" front to avoid using her firearms or gunblade, due to aforementioned paranoia. Corelyn has trouble understanding a good deal of Eorzean customs, being born and raised in Garlemald. While she detests the Empire and its search of conquest, she is still proud of her home for what they have accomplished without the need of magic or aether-based abilities. She also catches herself seeing people as "brutes" or "savages" a bit too often and has to mentally correct herself. It's very difficult for her to "dumb things down" for people when explaining how things work. If not just for having been irritated that she must explain to someone, it will be because she simply hates to think of anything on such a broad scale so as to leave out details she views as important.
  6. Trial: Traitor's Bane, 4 (Normal) 8 (HM/Ex) Player Trial Castrum Occidens, La Noscea Quest: Detecting a Defective Defector "Having been outed as a former member of the VIIth Legion and refusing to answer summons for questioning, Corelyn Rosefire, formerly known to the Empire as Corelyn nan Bellor, has fled to the abandoned Castrum Occidens in an attempt to escape persecution. She must be tracked down and captured, but if she resists, necessary force has been authorized. But is this really right...?" Combat Theme: Phase 1: "Steel Reason" Phase 2: "Bite of the Black Wolf" (Starts at Leveller) Quotes: "Bloody brutes! 'Fight first, talk later!' Is that it?" - At start of fight "Stay back!" - on using Magitek Shield Pulse "Ugh... You won't find me such an easy target!" - before calling out first set of Magitek Bits "Why... won't you stop?!" - At 55% health, Phase II "You've forced my hand; this ends now!" - On teleporting for Leveller "Impossible! H-how did...?" - all players survive Leveller "Damn your ignorance!" - on using Survivor's Guilt "I want nothing more than does Cid Garlond! Why do you revile me so?!" - 10% health "I... I never wanted... this..." - Upon defeat Attacks: Phase 1 (Corelyn: Engineer) Corelyn engages the party, shielded by a magitek barrier and wielding a gundagger. She will fire shots at random party members, and will toss ceruleum grenades, as well as summon magitek bits to impede players. Invulerable - Corelyn is rendered invulnerable by her magitek shield. Auto-Attack - Swings her gundagger at the highest enmity target Rosefire - [instant, used every 8 seconds] Fires a pink-hued round at a random ranged target. Deals moderate damage and leaves a dispellable "burns" debuff. Ceruleum Grenade - [4 second cast, targeted AoE, 20-second CD] Tosses a ceruleum grenade at a targeted party member, causing an explosion with a 10-yalm radius. Does heavy damage and leaves a 30-second heavy debuff. Targeted area will burn for 15 seconds afterward. Magitek Bits - Calls out Magitek bits that fire beams across the field. Beams deal heavy damage and inflict vulerability for 1 minute. 4 are called per cast. Cast with every 15% health lost until 55% (total 3 times, 12 Bits). Magitek Shield Pulse - [3-second cast, interruptible, 10-second CD] Causes a burst of energy that will stun all players within 5 yalms. If this is interrupted, it will disable her Invulnerability buff. If it is used successfully, the buff will reappear. Ultimate: Leveller At 40% health, Corelyn overcharges her shield and uses a teleporting device. Alarums are set off, and two sabotaged magitek armours appear. Sabotaged armours will cast photon stream on a 15-yalm line toward the highest enmity target for each. If kept close to one another for more than 10 seconds, they will self-destruct and deal lethal damage to all players. If not killed within 30 seconds, Leveller will trigger the self-destruct. After 30 seconds following the appearance of the magitek armours, Corelyn activates a massive bomb, targeting the centre of the arena, with a damage radius pulsing outward and growing weaker with increased range. The defeated magitek armours will still explode, but their explosion will be limited to a 10-yalm radius. Phase 2 (Corelyn: Soldier) Corelyn reappears, having donned modified Garlean armour and wielding a gunblade. She no longer possesses her magitek shield, but deals increased damage and has higher resistances. She no longer calls Magitek Bits, tosses Ceruleum grenades, or uses Magitek Shield Pulse. However, Rosefire is now Empowered Rosefire. Auto-Attack - Swings her gunblade at the highest enmity target Empowered Rosefire - [instant, used every 8 seconds] Fires a pink-hued round at a random ranged target. Deals slightly more damage, knocks back 10 yalms, and leaves a much more potent, but still dispellable "burns" debuff. Survivor's Guilt - [4 second cast, 15-second CD] After a short charge period, Corelyn unleashes a storm of charged slashes in a 10-yalm radius. Deals heavy damage, knocks back 10 yalms, and leaves a stacking damage down debuff for 1 minute. Melt Armour - [instant, 7-second CD] Blasts the highest-enmity target with a superheated round, dealing moderate damage and applying a stacking vulnerability debuff (up to 5) for 20 seconds. HM Differences: Most mechanics remain the same with few differences: Phase 1: - Rosefire will leave smaller burning areas on the ground as well. If the Burning Ceruleum areas from Ceruleum Grenades and Rosefire touch, they explode and deal heavy damage to the entire area. - 2 extra Magitek Bits are spawned per summon. - Uses Melt Armour in Phase 1 as well. Ultimate: - Sabotaged magitek armours will now also use magitek cannon on random ranged party members, dealing moderate damage in a 10-yalm radius. - Explosion radius of armours increased to 15 yalms. Phase 2: - Ceruleum Burn - [instant, 10-second cooldown] Burns the highest enmity target with a ceruleum backblast, dealing high damage and inflicting a potent, but dispellable "burns" debuff. - Survivor's Guilt now reduces all targets hit to half HP and applies 1 minute of febrile instead of damage down. - Ceruleum Grenades are still used, and Empowered Rosefire also leaves explosive areas on the ground. Ex Differences: Most mechanics remain the same plus all in HM with few differences: Phase 1: - Corelyn will have a persistent, non-targetable Magitek Bit above her that will fire a beam in random directions. This beam does more damage than the normal bits and will stun for 3 seconds. - Magitek Bits are shielded. Damage can only be dealt from within 5 yalms and all players within 5 yalms take persistent electric damage every 2 seconds. Ultimate: - An alarum is raised and an imperial mechanic will appear with each armour, casting "heals" on it that must be interrupted. This is a high-HP add that can only be killed by Leveller. - Explosion radius of armours increased to 20 yalms. Safe spaces are very small Phase 2: - Ceruleum Burn will now stun the target for 3 seconds if afflicted by more than 1 stack of Melt Armour's vulnerability. - 6 Magitek Bits are summoned at 30% and then again at 15%.
  7. Character Fear? A kind of "trope" I've kept with every iteration of Corelyn across games is her intense kinemortophobia (fear of undead, particularly zombies). If it's dead, it shouldn't move. Undead in any case freak her out to the extreme, and zombies in particular throw her off the deep end. How do they cope? Cope? What is this cope? If she's armed, with anything at all, she will go absolutely ballistic and try to utterly destroy anything that moves in a crazed panic. If unarmed, she'll shut down and go into a catatonic panic state. This is, generally, related to how close they are to her. At a distance, if she can, she can "calmly" pick them off, but the closer they get, the more freaked out she gets. Getting so much as touched by one will set her off completely, however. How do people respond to their fear? I imagine anyone nearby were Corelyn to go into a panic-induced undead-murder-spree would be worried about getting caught in the crossfire. I really don't see much friend-or-foe at that point in how crazy she goes. If the other option, people would (hopefully) have to try and get her clear of them. Do you think one day they could be cured of their fear? HAhahaahahahahAhAHaHAHahAh no. Poor thing. It has always been, and will always be, her greatest phobia and most potent trigger.
  8. While I was hoping there would be more than just "nan" for engineers (since a technician tends to be a whole different thing in practice), I guess that settles it for Corelyn's "real" name. Corelyn nan Bellor it is. (Though of course, it's "rosefire" now, but... yanno. Backstory.) Still, I loved this information to death. More Garlean lore! MORE!

    Corelyn

    I. Basic Info Characters: Corelyn Rosefire, Dail'a Naras, Hali Naras, Neilas sas Seles Primary character: Hali Naras Linkshells: Distant Shores Primary RP linkshell: N/A II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): I'd say medium, as it depends on my mood and what I'm doing. If I'm playing the game (or making a complete ass out of myself), I'm more than likely OOC. Views on RP combat and injuries: As long as we can agree on no permanent injuries/disfigurements/death/etc. unless otherwise agreed upon, then sure. Bring it on. As for style, in smaller-scale, honour system is best with me. Take your hits realistically, and I'll take mine as well. I try not to factor in OOC things like gear, stats/level, etc, but if you want to come at a level 50 of mine with a level 1 toting him as the biggest badass this side of Limsa... you better have a damned good RP explanation and story. On a more "event-based" scale with more people, I prefer a roll-then-emote style, where you roll to see how effective your character would be, then emote accordingly. Views on IC romance: It's just like any other part of RP for me; it happens, and it's fun, so why not? Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): ...I call trick question. Views on lore: I will do my very best to adhere to all lore in my knowledge and to be understanding if it's pointed out (with sufficient evidence, reason, and material, mind you) that I am not. However, that said, if I can justify it in lore and it would make sense for a character of mine, then I will do it. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Usually, I can be either IC or OOC. I try to use (( OOC brackets )) to denote when there is Rp nearby, but... I will often forget, or will not use them, especially if I have not been IC in a good while. III. Other Info Country: 'Murica. Timezone: EST Contact info: PM, whisper, or in-game mail should be good enough.
  10. Well, already plowed through the Elite Four and the Champion. Working on putting together my team of favourites. Thus far, I've Espeon, Poliwrath, Absol and Blaziken, and am compiling more. =-D
  11. Honestly, I'm very careful about what I tell people OOCly. Even the best RPers are prone to metagaming without realizing it. There are so many things about Corelyn that I do not have openly-listed, though I have things hinted on her wiki profile. However, it's nothing more than that, and I don't intend on putting them there (maybe on some other non-listed wiki page or something under a different name or something). While it's nothing against my fellow RPers, it's simply a precaution I deign necessary with a character who has plentiful secrets that must be found out through RP, given she hides them very well. That said, on WoW, I'd be one of those people that, in MRP, would list under history some few things that people in general would know about my characters, and anything further would simply be "RP to find out!"
  12. How many pokemon: 700ish. How many animal species exist in reality?: 8.7 million I think 700 is fine. ...very good point.
  13. Over the years, I've started telling myself something that, honestly, really and truly helps in any situation where I feel someone is being offensive either intentionally or not. Of course, it helps and goes hand in hand with the fact that I, myself, have a rather all-encompassing sense of humour including and certainly not limited to rude, crude, offensive behaviour. Simply put, you cannot be offended if you do not let yourself be. That doesn't mean speak up against people, nor does it mean making anyone else stop. It starts with you. If you choose not to take offense to something, regardless of your beliefs or feelings on something... that is (eventually - it takes a bit of self-training, admittedly) where it ends. Without someone to take offense, offensive actions or language are no longer as big of a problem, as the person who they would otherwise offend is now unaffected. And believe me, this comes from experience, spending years of my life bullied and abused by my "fellow" man from grade school to high school to college to this very day. I'm a weird and eccentric person who often is at the end of some pretty offensive comments and behaviour. That said... F8XlMYe_2Lo
  14. Agreed. Pokemon are practically anything and everything, and that's okay. It's just the sheer number of them that kind of makes my brain go: cARauLRYX2g
  15. I think I will stick to my time-tested favourites: Espeon, Poliwrath, Blaziken, Absol, and it's been so long I forget the rest.
  16. Somewhere over 700 in X and Y. That's...a lot. That's the other reason I'd started to lose interest in Pokemon. Just... holy fucking hell. How much is -too- much at this point...?
  17. Then for Y, there's this asshole. He will hug the SHIT out of you. Don't even try it. He's got three fucking arms to just hug you and pet you and call you George and if you don't like it, well, shit. He's got two sets of talons to just rip you apart. You better like getting your hug on, motherfucker. Because shit's about to get real.
  18. I don't see where Red Cross is calling for gamers to be punished. If you look at the Guardian article, Red Cross is suggesting that videogames be more realistic and have in-game consequences for committing war crimes: And Red Cross says they don't want to ruin anyone's fun; they just want "realistic" war games to address the same political and social consequences of real wars. Seems like a reasonable suggestion to improve the quality of videogames, if you ask me, but I like fiction that deals with consequences of war with ambiguity and complexity. As for war crime laws themselves... they aren't working terribly well, if the Bush years taught us anything, but that probably a rant for another day. It essentially boils down to "shoot" and "don't shoot" targets like in the arcade shooters. Killing civilians gets points deducted or what-have-you, while shooting the baddies progresses the game or gets you points. It "sort of" exists already in some effect. Though this kind of makes me think of a bunch of 10-year-olds running around in the deserts of the Middle East, screaming long lines of cuss words at each other while shooting anything that moves.
  19. Heh. X/Y might actually be the games to get me back into the series. I lost interest back in the Diamond/Pearl era because a friend of mine went batshit psycho and stole my game. Deleted the file (which had at least 2 full 100s, full EV and all - one of them my favourite Pokemon, Espeon - not to mention all my Pokemon from my Ruby version that I tirelessly worked to transfer over and thensome) and claimed he bought a version himself. I got SoulSilver, but I couldn't get very far before I wound up just giving up, having no drive whatsoever. I have to say, though X and Y might be the boost to get me pumped for the series again. lol My little brother is set on getting X, so I figure I'll get Y. It'll be something to keep me occupied while I sit in the hospital with my mom this weekend during her surgery.
  20. *signs on for the Booker fanclub* Booker's a badass and the only person with a name being used like that that hasn't irritated me in the least. His skill and, frankly, his personality, far outweigh that, and, hell, make it sort of an endearing trait. Booker's my homeboy, yo. *brofist* ... *shot*
  21. Now that you've all brought up some -very- good points, allow me to expand on them further. And as a disclaimer... I might be bringing some sci-fi into our fantasy world here for just a moment, but bear with me. I love explaining and rationalizing things like this. First, addressing the issue of suspension of disbelief - this is one of my favourite things (along with the fourth wall, from time to time) to screw around with. I've found that one can keep it very well, so long as explanations, reasons, and usage for just about anything does comes across neat, clean, and supported by actual gameplay, lore, or pure logic. That said, I have noticed, as has been said, that most Garlean firearms are energy-based. The main "gun" attack of Magitek Riding Armour is called "Photon Stream," which could lead one to believe that the Garleans use a light-and-heat based projectile system instead of a purely physical projectile system. Granted, both may find the same effectiveness, and they may be capable of employing -both- methods. Also, from what we see, the guns equipped on Livia sas Junius and Rhitatyn sas Arvina are not guns but magitek cannons, Livia's less so than Rhitatyn's, having seen her fire them like guns normally in cutscenes. This also calls to point that most people aside from purebloods or those raised in Garlemald proper would even see training on any type of firearm, as most of the time, those we see piloting the Magitek Riding Armours are often clad in the garb of higher-ranking or true Garlean soldiers. For anyone in Eorzea to find access to, or even use effectively at all, a garlean firearm, would likely require significant backstory set allied with or descended from the Empire, which, in itself, can be a fairly big handicap if exposed - this means that skilled use of a firearm would be immediately obvious to most people of Erozea in possession of a decent sense of logic and reasoning, anbd would immediately subject that person to suspicion, distrust, and even persecution if not worse. This brings to reason, along with supporting in-game mechanics of long charge and cooldowns, that most Garlean firearms shown in-game, while relatively effective, capable of differing modes such as charged shots, burst-fire, and even launching missiles, depending on the equipment employed, require long periods of cooling down or preparation between "clips" or "charges." I would assume, given that we see a lot of photon- and energy-based projectiles, if not exclusively, that, as is the case with all Magitek, the primary element in these firearms is ceruleum. I'm willing to wager that the ceruleum is used as an alternative type of ammunition to charge particles and fire them in a projectile-based state with physical mass and properties until the projectiles encounter enough resistance to shatter the bonds which hold together those selfsame particles. This does not mean, of course, that all Garlean firearms would produce burn-like wounds - they could have much the same effects as physical rounds. That said, one could argue that such weapons of any kind - even the heavier weapons - can be rationalized and placed in the environment without stretching anything too far. It would also mean that due to the drawbacks of not only long charge and cooling-down periods on the weapons, that the weapons themselves could be matched in potency, or at least effectiveness, of most magic shown in-game. It also calls to mention that a lot of archers may even match the effectiveness of Garlean tech weapons, as even today, a good bow and skilled wielder can have as much penetrating power and force as many smaller firearms, if not better aim and a much stealthier means of attack. We can rule out silencers in Garlean tech. After all, the bang of a gun is synonymous with a show of power - much like a crack of thunder - and the Garleans love their power shows. Should these points hold enough water, I'd say that implementation in RP should follow what's set above. It seems as though the game has these things balanced already in show and mechanics, and these things would be well-translated to RP given proper in-character implementation. What do you guys think? And you'll have to pardon me. I'm actually known in my old circle for really getting into the technical details of things in order to expand a world beyond what is shown in gameplay. After all, the more that can be rationally done in RP, the better, in my opinion! Free your mind, man. Free your mind. And wow, that got really fucking long. Um... TL;DR: ...read the whole fucking thing. It's worth it, I think.
  22. Yeah. That's why I added the caveat as to pure-bloods or natives of other sorts. A lot of the sword/staff/bow wielders we do see in game are often the subjugated people of other nations. As for magitek limbs and enhancement... that's a hell of a stretch without either A) backstory originating in Garlemald and/or B) a balancing trait of some sort. To that end, I'd almost say it's not an either/or thing as much of a BOTH thing. I think the most that information like this would and SHOULD be used by a vast majority of RP is when in combat against Garlean NPCs and enemies. I totally agree on the arms race comment. Sadly, a lot of mediocre roleplay will find itself "enhanced" with futuristic/advanced weaponry and such that no one else -should- have. But as soon as a few people are seen with it out of context, it suddenly becomes okay for everyone else and their grandmother, just by the "monkey-see-monkey-do" thing.
