From the album: Guises of a Kitsch Con Artist
Due to her chameleon lifestyle Madame Pholnaset has appeared as different things to different people. A Beer Bard appearing to a lost and freezing adventurer in need of a pick-me-up, a temporary Maid at a high brow function where lots of juicy information can be overheard, or a charismatic Retainer filling in for someone's vacation. In some cases people don't believe its the same person or simply haven't seen more than one guise. In other cases people swear they've seen her in places she claims to have never been. What motivates her to travel so far and keep her social lives even farther apart? -
From the album: Guises of a Kitsch Con Artist
Madame Pholnaset appears to have an aptitude for dwelling in and with nature. She can reportedly survive off very little, does just fine surviving in the wild and has been documented charming various animals by playing the flute or speaking in a soothing and sedated voice. Her choice of attire often does little to convey any of this however with their colourful displays, jewelry-laden designs and one of her ensembles even resembling a peacock's feathers. -

Madame Pholnaset has gone by many names and disguises with various trades attached to them, but the one constant is that she's a relatively harmless trickster at worst. She's not reckless enough to outright incur the wrath of the Rogues or Yellow Jackets in Limsa Lominsa, and the Brass Blades of Ul'dah are hardly known for head-hunting someone accused of being a mischievous con artist. -

Although these garments help display Madame Pholnaset's penchant for distractingly colourful apparel, more discerning Weavers will likely pick up on her wanton use of convincing counterfeit jewelry. The same kind she sells to customers who are sufficiently impressed with her striking appearance and endearing charm. Madame Pholnaset has noted to critics and investigators that sometimes low quality items are traded or sold to her and that there's no inherent crime in reselling them. -

Madame Pholnaset relies heavily on theatricality and mystique cultivation in many of her dubious business endeavors. To this end she's taken to employing a wide range of guises. Common traits include looking older than she probably is to appear wise and donning items from various cultures to seem well traveled. -
From the album: Vikohla
These three outfits are supposed to be examples of Vikohla's love of dramatic outfits. The first is a prototype she's working on designed to use machinery to imitate magic spells. The second outfit is just a fun dance/party getup and the last is her super fancy ballroom inspired garment. -

Although Vikohla's chief passions are engineering and chemistry you sometimes have to take the jobs you can get in life. Her three most notable odd jobs have been a volunteer chocobo caretaker assistant at a riding school (though she could use some riding lessons herself), a Singing Telegram courier and an armature magician at kid's parties. -
From the album: Vikohla
Vikohla learned much about engineering and mechanics under her father and remains an enthusiastic hobbyist. She originally began studying chemistry as a means of spending time with her mother, a specialist in the field but not terribly good at fostering emotional relationships. Vikohla has taken to chemistry enough to consider studying alchemy in Ul'dah. -

These are more casual ensembles intended to help convey Vikohla's love of engineering and mechanical studies. Storywise she's not officially a practicing Mechinist and sadly, given her parents negative experiences in the Ishgard region, that's not likely to change anytime soon. -
From the album: Vikohla
These are some favourite outfits of Vikohla's including her goth flapper outfit, Mayble The Marvelous cosplay and a dark, ultra-modern getup she wears when she's trying her best to look cool. -

One of the first research assistant chores Vikohla undertook as a child was to help her parents gather or grow alchemical ingredients. To this day she has a fond association with the task of botany. -
From the album: Vikohla
Vikohla’s parents taught her that the advancement of technology should be in step with nature and not at the expense of the environment. They didn’t expect her to become a tree-hugger though. -
Hello Kohagura, welcome to the FFXIV RP community! I hope you find plenty of opportunity to enjoy some slice of life RPing in FFXIV. The setting is certainly well catered for it, even from a gameplay perspective crafting jobs are taken as seriously as the more fantastical combat jobs.

Being under the impression that her parents once conducted top secret research for the war effort has fostered a patriotic streak in Vikohla. -
From the album: Vikohla
Most of the tools used in Vikohla's machinist set were designed by her parents. The melodramatic "secret agent" attire was all her idea of course. The desire to look like a cool spy was doubtless inspired by a fanciful book she'd recently read. -

New to FFXIV RP specifically, looking for friends in Primal
Moon Type replied to Green's topic in Welcome Desk
Welcome to the FFXIV RP community, Green! o/ A mercenary makes for a very flexible character indeed, lots of potential for moral drama as well! Without saying too much I like the idea of a Scion with anger management issues given all that they've been through. -
You're welcome, happy to help! RPing a student, inquisitive person or visiting foreigner are among my go-to characters when I'm new to an MMO and still learning the lore. It provides a fun way for players to share lore information as well as stories about their character's adventures. Even when one knows the lore inside and out it could be nice to RP a very accomplished student who's willing to share what they know to help fellow students, or an ego-maniac who can't wait to show off what they know.

RPer looking to make their home in Eorzea, hello!
Moon Type replied to Clarity's topic in Welcome Desk
Welcome aboard Clarity! o/ I like the idea of a messenger character, there's lots of potential for funny or thrilling RP with such a job. Plus it gives your character a reason to be in almost any settled area.- 1 reply

Hey there Celestia! I love the character introduction

Hello Blue, welcome to the website, I hope you find the FC that's right for you! Also, I think it's cool that MUDs are still up and about. I have a Lalafell who also started out as a thaumaturge and switched to a conjurer, and with all of the death and destruction that's been visited upon Eorzea I think that's a pretty reasonable direction to take a character in. Such changes would probably happen a lot in the FFXIV setting especially after the recent Calamity. Add to this the connection between thaumaturgy and the much frowned upon black mage school of magic and there's even more reason for someone to want a career change. Your interpretation of this transition, along with your character's motivations and choices, will have ample room for compelling RP.

Welcome to the website, I'm certain your RP experience will be appreciated! I can't comment on how the general community of FFXIV views lore bending. Some people on this site have stated their flexibility on the matter, but if you're walk-up RPing I'd say play it safe and go by the book. As a general rule it's good to treat jobs/classes/professions as we would irl careers of similar distinction. So the White Mage job would be akin to the practice of medicine with varying degrees of proficiency, and becoming a fully fledged doctor takes years of study. The cool thing about the Final Fantasy setting is that one could RP as a Conjurer first while learning about the lore of the job (job quests do a good job of facilitating this). Also the character's journey to becoming a White Mage could be part of their unfolding story. Struggle, adversity and limitations can really help shape a character and make overcoming challenges that much more special. Learning from more experienced characters or bonding with fellow students can also open up a wide range of RP possibilities. I'm not aware of any one site being the go-to for posting character profiles and the like, some even post such details on this website. Whichever platform best serves what you have in mind, go for it! Some people will post information about their characters and express an interest in forming friendships with other characters. Such posts can even be found in other Welcome Desk threads. RP events can also be helpful, especially if the event involves an interest, skill or even curiosity of your character.

Welcome to the FFXIV RP website Verona! o/ The lore for this game is very well fleshed out, it can be dizzying the amount there is to learn and explore. That's a good thing though, FFXIV provides a setting with lots of cultural variation and social ingredients for us to draw from.

I'm glad you came across our website, welcome Derek!
