From the album: Vikohla
This is another outfit that's puffy at the top but thin towards the bottom. Vikohla's parents have taken to calling this style of ensemble "triangle attire", which was intended as a tease but she likes the name. -

In addition to attending finishing school soon Vikohla will be taking chocobo riding lessons. Her experience caring for various test animals and insects in her parents lab could land her a job tending to chocobos at The Manderville Gold. She was never required to ride a chocobo at the lab though and she'd like to learn how before applying for the job. -
I don't think that's too much at all, a double life can be a lot of fun to write! If Sirenia Severus has a spotless reputation she wants to maintain, or loved ones she doesn't want finding out her dark side, that can really add to the drama. I'm not sure if White Mages take an oath like some doctors do, but that could be something she reflects on as well. Her constant justification of what she does would make for some interesting internal dialog, and if she has a character to confide in there could even be some interesting debates. Writers will often insert such a character to help manifest a conflict of ideology. That's awesome! 1.0 had it's problems but I sometimes wish I was able to play it. The closing event was very memorable for those who were there.

Welcome aboard @Red Tooth and welcome back to FFXIV! You picked a great time to return. I sort of know how you feel, except in my case I only recently started playing the game so I wish I started it sooner. I had good reasons for waiting, but man, FFXIV has been such a blast to play and there's still so much left to see and do! Thank you @Kirakira for replying to the thread, I missed it as well but your bump took care of that.

Welcome to the FFXIV RP community BentiiBell! \o/ I wish you many happy years of RPing in this lovely game!

Welcome aboard Iranda, I'm glad you chose to join us! ^.^ I hope you don't totally abandon the idea of a Battle Butler, I love the sound of it! There's a posh chocobo armor set that, when applied, looks as if your character is being catered to and protected by their chocobo. I've been using this for one of my alts but a chocobo, as intelligent as they are, couldn't fulfill the role of a butler. Your Battle Butler on the other hand could be exactly what rich parents with adventurous children need. Or a character who is well off and wants to go adventuring themselves but needs a little protection to go with some of the creature comforts they're used to enjoying back home. All that being said your Samurai/Pugilist character sounds very promising. Dabbling in multiple jobs means multiple sources for background stories. What motivated them to try the job, professional reasons or personal? Who was the worst client or boss she ever worked for? Has a client ever stalled on a job payment because they weren't satisfied with the job, even though your character did everything they were asked to do? Basically any number of job experiences you've had or heard about IRL could be applied to your character. Most characters your see in RP will be able to relate to a hard day at work.. You could take the other approach as well and strike up a positive conversation relating to work. Perhaps someone has a pistol model your character has heard good things about and she'd like to ask a fellow adventurer about it. Although your character likely has lots of combat experience perhaps they see a spell cast in battle that they don't recognize and asking about it could help her in learning how to counter, dodge or shield against it. I can't find anything solid on whether a job must be learned in the game designated cities or not. I honestly doubt it since the Samurai and Monk schools are in Ul'dah. I think the in game locations represent where the official guilds are set up, but as with most things you can be home taught, self taught or learn from a small school or tutor. If you'd like to play it safe you could have your character learn one or more jobs from a teacher/trainer character you invent. That would add more to her story as you'd get to develop the teacher/trainer and their time with your character.

Welcome to the RP community, Sirena! Have you been playing FFXIV with Sirenia Severus since 1.0 by any chance? For naming I wouldn't worry too much about it. Naming conventions can be fun to get into but there are always plenty of instances, in real life and other fiction, where someone is named something unusual or adopts an unconventional name. Every name was new at some point and parents wanting their children to have a distinct name is more common than not. Similar to words if no name exists that suits what the parent feels about the child, or how people view themselves, they'll invent one. This is often done by combining existing words or elements of other names. And aside from very strict religious settings, or abnormally overbearing rulership, no one is going to forbid you from inventing a name or spelling an existing one differently. Besides, it's not like you're naming your character Fizbot Wagonteeth or something. For backstory you could shape some of it around the Calamity as the event effected so many. In addition to being easy to recall it can help your character bond with other characters. For example, two of my characters were at the fateful Battle of Carteneau and the event shapes their story to this day as they're having trouble overcoming the past. My Roegadyn, Ogeshna, who was a prize fighter convinced that she was destined to aid the Eorzean Alliance, literally lost everything and was broken in both body and spirit at Carteneau. She only recently woke up from a coma so she's lost time and hasn't begun the healing process other survivors went through together. Ogeshna's starting theme is about the character needing to rebuild herself. My Lalafell, Baboba, who was Ogeshna's biggest fan turned best friend, witnessed many of their comrades fall at Carteneau, some of them while trying to protect him. Worst of all he saw Ogeshna wounded close to death and as he tried to heal her he was teleported away. Haunted by his inability to save even a single person he forsook Thaumaturgy to become a White Mage. Baboba's starting theme is the challenge of moving past survivor's guilt. So for Sirenia Severus, what was she doing at the time of the Battle of Carteanu? Was she actually there, and if so what relationships did she forge? Was there an ally she promised to watch over who died during the battle and she had to confront the surviving family? Was she in a town far removed from the battle but her relatives were right in the thick of it and few or none survived? Was she a spirited adventurer but the horrors of the Calamity caused her to retire to a quiet life, or did she live a quiet life before the Calamity and the sacrifices of so many brave people inspired her to join the fight against the literal forces of darkness? Also, can you work any of your IRL job experience into the story? Sirenia could share some of your conviction and motivation in her decision to become a White Mage which would make RPing some aspects of her story that much easier.

From the album: Vikohla
Vikohla is a huge fan of detective stories and this outfit is essentially an IC cosplay of one of her favorite characters, Mayble The Marvelous Mage! In an effort to guide her mind towards scientific pursuits her parents often bought her detective stories as a birthday present or surprise treat. Most of the stories involved problems being solved using the scientific method, but one of them happened to be a cross-over between an engineer and Mayble the mage. Vikohla was immediately drawn to the Mayble character and pleaded for, or purchased, all of her stories over the following years. There's been some heated debate among fans as to what type of mage Mayble was and the author never clarified despite the serial running for 33 issues over 8 years. Vikohla holds to the fan theory that Mayble practiced a fictional style of magic which focused on distracting, confounding and debilitating her opponents while also transferring any advantageous spells they had to herself*. This theory refers to Mayble as being a “Purple Mage”. (*This job description is inspired by the Mesmer class of the Guild Wars series.) -

The Moonfire Faire is the perfect time for a little Jubilee! \o/ This is just an OOC cosplay but I might make an IC re-colouring at some point. -
From the album: Vikohla
This is an OOC cosplay of American McGee's take on Alice In Wonderland. The makeup doesn't need to change really but the hair could use some more length. -
Welcome aboard, Clumsy! I hope you're able to make some lasting connections here that will help enrich your RP experience in FFXIV. From what I understand there are some cool references that fans of the Final Fantasy series will appreciate, so here's hoping you thoroughly enjoy your time with this game. \o/

A proper villain is good for stirring up the pot and there are no shortage of groups such a character could become affiliated with. It'll be interesting to see what choices your neutral evil character makes if they indulge their darker side. I've only really RPed a villainous character once in Star Wars: The Old Republic, and even then it was a pretty simple story between two RPers. It helped that I knew a fair amount about the lore at the time as well. -

You made the right call designing a character who can hear the mother crystal. I usually RP characters whose function is to aid or compliment the story of adventuring characters and those who also live simple lives. The problem with doing that though is that most areas of a given MMO are unreachable to such characters, especially if travel options are restricted in the game story. This often includes most (if not all) expac zones. ^ ^ I do have at least one character designed with this in mind though, but even she will have limits to where she can go. -

I honestly wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to put together a flapper goth outfit for Vikohla, I should’ve known better than to doubt the FFXIV clothing collection. This ensemble, and it’s variation, help drive home the fact that A) Vikohla dresses like a member of The Addams Family and B) on occasion Vikohla also dresses like your grandmother. These references are for the benefit of RPers OOCly of course as there’s no Addams Family or Roaring 20s fashion period in the FF universe. The intention is to convey some of what Vikohla is about using as much of her appearance as I can. With this in mind each outfit should reflect an aspect of her personality, occupation or event in her story. -

What do you do when you can’t choose between two versions of an outfit? You use both! The first version had the webbed leggings and this version looks like she’s wearing a fancy pair of high cut boots. This version also has a grey layer at the bottom of the dress compliments the grey frill on the front V-cut of the dress. Story wise Vikohla has recently been trying to land a job at the Manderville Gold Saucer, so she wants to play it classy for the job interviews. Her parents strongly advised that she attend a finishing school to bolster her chances; truth be told they’ve been trying to push that on her for over a decade as years of befriending “ruffians and knife fighters” in Limsa Lominsa have resulted in Vikohla picking up a lot of slang and poor speaking habits. -

This is her most traditional FFXIV outfit but the tone of it still gets the point across. On the off chance that she ever goes adventuring this would definitely be her go-to choice as the roomy coat has plenty of space for storing potions, gadgets, bullets, guns and lipstick. Story wise this attire combination baffles her parents more than any other. Something about wearing summery leggings with a thick coat just doesn't compute with them. The heat absorbing shade of black adds to their befuddlement. -

This outfit is intended to balance out the vintage ones. She’s often fond of wearing old fashioned clothes but this outfit, with it’s orange ribbons, Batgirlesque boots and cheeky pumpkin brooch, make it clear that Vikohla is still on the young side. Since Vikohla genuinely believes this outfit is ultra chic she’ll probably save it for parties, special occasions or her funeral. Her parents, who can be blunt to the point of dispassionate, take issue with the morbid humor of Vikohla wanting to be buried in "that thing." -
From the album: Vikohla
In many respects Vikohla has diverged from the path her parents set her on, much to their dismay. But she’s still the progeny of a pair of "mad scientists", so she still harbors a love of science, especially the innovative aspects which speak to her creative nature. Her parents, who are predominantly logical thinkers, encourage this side of Vikohla whenever possible and have paid for her Alchemy classes to this end. Story wise this lab coat originally belonged to Vikohla’s mother and references the size difference between her and her parents. I’m honestly not sure how much use this will get ICly since I would prefer to have her wear the same lab coats as the NPCs studying alchemy in Ul’dah. Perhaps she'll return to the family business someday. -
From the album: Vikohla
I’m debating leveling her White Mage job but that wouldn’t match anything in her story at the moment. She looked after the test animals her parents worked with (or buried them, or helped dissect them) but that hardly warrants the White Mage job. As far as her IC motivations for wearing this, a fancy dress party or simple get together would do. While far from the wildest attire seen in an FF setting it hopefully helps get across her whimsical and eccentric nature. -
From the album: Vikohla
I really should do more with this but I’m at a loss. It’s a start at least. The real question is when does she wear such a getup? Vikohla doesn’t need a special occasion to dress this way to be honest. She’s a huge fan of dramatic clothing so don’t be surprised if she goes fangirl over the ensemble of one of your characters! FFXIV has no shortage of flamboyance and style. \o/ -
From the album: Vikohla
Once you’ve seen enough of Vikohla’s taste in clothing certain things should become very predictable, or I’m doing something wrong. With that in mind this ‘fest noir’ outfit should come as no surprise. On a story note, Vikohla originally had a traditional red version of this dress and upon seeing it a classmate of hers said “I’m surprised you didn’t get that in black.” Vikohla showed up wearing this black dress the very next day while also wearing the cheesiest grin her classmate had ever seen. -

You know how sometimes when a hubby is loaned a shirt to wear they keep wearing it, and before long the realization dawns that the shirt belongs to them now because it’s like having a little piece of you when you’re apart? Ever heard of someone having a hard time getting rid of their child’s baby clothes even though they graduated from university seven years ago? Or any similar scenario where someone can’t part with an object due to the memories connected to it? Well, Vikohla is that type of person. She’s prone to developing an attachment to objects whose visuals, texture or scent remind her of someone she cares a great deal for. This is her dad’s old wedding tux that she “saved” from being sold off when she was a small child. Recently she was going to clean it up and sell it as her dad originally intended, she’s a grownup now, right? Except it shrunk in the washing process and fits her perfectly now. So she kept it. Her parents don’t understand her sometimes. -
From the album: Vikohla
Vikohla is ready for the Moonfire Faire! This one’s very basic, though truth be told I was hoping to give her one of those super old school once-piece bathing suits. There’s a nightcap that would go perfect with that look, but this will do. Vikohla was born within the sphere of Limsa Lominsa and spent much of her childhood there, so she’s always happy to pay the region a visit. -
Welcome to the RP community GoGoGlasses! o/ I wish you all the best as you explore the wonderful world of FFXIV and play through the story. One of my characters assisted in her parents' lab growing up and has been attending alchemy classes, so I apologize ahead of time if my portrayal of proper terms and procedures makes you spit out your drink from laughter. ^ ^

I might take you up on that if I return to RPing in World of Warcraft I wish I didn't have to choose between games as I've had a predominantly positive time playing WoW. Star Wars: The Old Republic had me in a similar bind; it can be played without a sub but it's a legit struggle and hard to cope with, which is the point of course lol. I think it's cool that you're bringing a character you've honed over the years into a new MMO, I've done that a number of times as well to see how the personality would respond to the new setting. The difference in environment, economics, politics, meta physics, biology and history will always ensure a significant divergence in story, and this in turn leads to the character evolving differently. It's very interesting to play around with, almost like writing an extreme alternate reality story. That FC name has a nice ring to it, sounds like something that would turn up in the game story. Is Ei'kher an Au Ra name, or a name made using Au Ra naming conventions?
