discussion A Hydaelyn Roleplayer Podcast?
Divisor replied to Parth Makeo's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
You don't have a bad voice for the job, but you're waaay too quiet. You could just up the gain in post if you wanted, but you'll run into problems with clarity pretty fast, turning up all your background noise along with you. Luckily, there are ways to fix it. First, make sure you're talking directly into that microphone. It shouldn't be on your mouth, just pretty close. If your voice ends up coming through better than any of your background noise does, that'll leave enough of a dynamic range that you can reduce noise easily in post (a la noise gate or whatever). If I were you, though, I'd do my very best to get rid of it entirely. You'll need a pop filter, a whole lot of soft materials, and a look at this: GOOD LUCK! -
Keeping an eye on this one!

Black Desert character creator available for free

Man, this thing is cool. Although after trying for like 45 minutes to make something that even remotely resembled Aerius, I had to concede. I don't know how you guys do it. -
How to find the balance between overpowered and underpowered?
Divisor replied to LadyRochester's topic in RP Discussion
I don't know that I'd call underpowered characters annoying, especially not in the way overpowered characters are, but if you're worried that your character is leaning on one side of the spectrum, it's a pretty easy fix: give them a strength and a weakness. Keep them balanced. Sasha has a pretty significant aversion to aether—that's obviously a weakness—but what is she good at? What strengths does she have that may put her above others? It doesn't have to be something combat-oriented. She could have a silver tongue, she could be quick on her feet, she could have a high tolerance for physical pain as opposed to magical. I think if you have a character that could be classified as "underpowered" it'd be because that character doesn't have any strengths to speak of. Just like an overpowered character has no weaknesses to speak of. If your character is one of the two, give them some traits or skills that pull them back in the other direction. -
Aerius is a pretty accomplished thief/spy who I like to imagine has made quite a name for himself in Ul'dah. I have links to his wiki in my signature if you want better details. I'm always looking for more seedy people for him to get involved with (connections are important), so I'm totally down if he sounds like someone Luha could work with!

Neato! More pickpockets. If you ever want someone to steal from Haydn'to for a change, Aerius is your guy. You mention he's still learning the tricks of the trade, so it could either be to knock him down a couple pegs or to give him some pointers (although it looks like you're covered on the latter). Let me know! -
I really think it depends on the player's intention when they choose to roleplay a given character. For example, I've seen characters who list "a stutter" under a series of personal quirks, where the intention of the player was to make that stutter help the character seem more endearing or immature or amusing. I've also seen characters who list the same kind of stutter, however the purpose it served was the opposite—it highlighted real social ineptitude and personal aversions to public speaking and attention, due to whatever kind of backstory that character had (troubled childhood, trauma, etc). The way I interpreted that quirk for that character wasn't a static thing based on how I preferred to look at it; it was influenced by the rest of the character. If you want to give your character some kind of illness, be it physical or mental, I think you need to approach it like you would any other trait. Give it context, keep it in line with the tone of your character, and present it realistically. That said, mental illnesses are tricky. It's not easy to traverse them through a character if you don't already have a solid understanding of them and their effects on a person. They need to be done tastefully, or it has the potential of sullying your entire character because you missed the mark, either by going too overboard with it or not giving it the appropriate amount of weight. And that all, obviously, varies depending on the type of mental illness you're going with.

Use a video to describe your character's class/job...
Divisor replied to ShoggMommy's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
As outrageous as possible? I have two. Pure class. [video=youtube] [video=youtube] -
Hey, I'll help out. Being helpful's a fun pastime and I can always use more contacts. I regularly play NIN and PLD and I'm on pretty often after 6 PM EST, so if you can use either of those, just hit me up. As far as RP goes, I don't exactly have a character that I think would be fitting for heroics and MSQ-ness. At least, not in the general sense. But that doesn't mean I'm averse to getting him to meet more people. Come Heavensward, things might start shifting around for him anyway. I dunno. I'm pretty comfortable with sitting out ICly so the rest of you can do your thing. I generally put RP before anything else in MMOs to begin with. Find me somewhere if you want me along!

Only way I've seen it done is with a second person capable of moving furniture around. You /doze, then someone moves the furniture out of the way, and your character stays in position. It requires some finagling and I'm not sure how to do it with only one person.

Sounds pretty cool. Aerius is a thief/spy/shady criminal of sorts and he can always do with connections with people who get into the same kind of trouble he gets into. Personality-wise he's pretty cool-headed and easygoing, very careful and attentive when it comes to his work, and very much in the "experienced" category. I have more about him in my signature. If that sounds cool to you, hit me up. :D

Divisor replied to Gone.'s topic in Chronicled Connections
Aerius is the kind of guy who's "been there", with a similarly rough past and shoddy outlook on where he's at now (probably because he's a criminal). None of that's outwardly clear, though, and he's definitely the type to urge people not to follow in his footsteps however he can, so if you're looking for someone who'll be real with her and whip her back into shape, he's your guy. -
You're looking for bodyweight fitness routines. They're all about using your own body as resistance for exercises, as well as common household items like gallons of milk, a table, etc. There's a whole subreddit I like to frequent that goes into exercises in detail, ranging from beginner to advanced.

Know you are not alone here. I have trouble with this sort of thing a lot. Don't let yourself get too caught up in it, take breaks if you get that frustrated, and be patient. Persistence is key.
-
Aerius would totally get into this.
-
If T'caska ever finds her naïve self caught up in the more shadowy parts of Ul'dah, Aerius could probably help her get out before it's too late.

Man, I'm loving all the shady/illicit RP stuff I'm seeing prop up all over the forums lately. Super exciting. I'd totally be down to join up on this. I need about as many fellow criminals/morally questionable people as I can get to sate my desire for shady RP. I'll be watching out for the LS itself!
-
Oh, I've done it before! I guess in that instance, though, it was of my own discretion. The character(s) died when I wanted them to and that's about as far as it went. Death is the only thing I get apprehensive about in RP because it can't be undone without being off-putting. You can kick my character's ass up and down the street and he'll at least get better after a while.
-
Yeah, I think I'm with you on this one. I'm good with permadeath being something everyone can be open to, but I think I'd like my character alive. I'd be willing to join since I'm on the hunt for criminal RP all over the place, but I have no alts at all and permadeath's the only thing about this LS that worries me a little. I guess that's why it's alts-only.

She could certainly try stealing from Aerius! Though... I can't guarantee he won't notice.

balmung Looking for MRP for a criminal Seeker!
Divisor replied to Kraz's topic in Chronicled Connections
Aerius is a bit of a criminal. He takes all kinds of work from the seedier sides of Ul'dah but specializes in theft, spying, and investigation. He does his best to keep that side of what he does to himself, but if your character already has ties to those parts of the city, it's more than likely they would've heard about him here or there. I'm always looking for people to meet who do that same kind of stuff; connections are pretty important! I have a wiki for him too if you want a better idea of the character. I'll keep an eye out for you!
