The RP-finding servers (that includes the shard/datacenter discords) are largely useless unless you yourself are willing to reach out to people. Just like the back alleys of Ul'dah, people dump their character carrds there and wait for someone else to initiate. In all honesty, I've had better luck putting up PF advertisements for myself and visiting venues that friends run.

Like you, I've been keeping my eyes peeled for FCs and players to RP with for a little over a year now on Mateus with basically no luck (tl;dr grass is greener on the other side, matty's no better than balmung in this respect) but generally speaking I only have myself to blame for it. I'm picky about what I want, the vibe I'm looking for, the themes I'm after, and very few people have "clicked", as it were. On a positive note, the few people I *have* found are great writers and have not a care in the world that I play only lalafells or do 95% of my RP on discord. It's not wrong to want something done a certain way or to just have a different vibe from everyone else. Just means that you have to work a lot harder to find samesies. It isn't your luck; you've done nothing "wrong"- the game is just not the place you thought it was. Adjust your expectations, get creative with how you put yourself out there, accept that your friend group will be small, and things may start to feel a little better. ^-^

I'll have to keep that in mind! It's an active part of his storyline but not something he's been able to actively pursue at the moment, good to know there's somewhere he can turn to put him in the right direction when it gets to that. Thanks!

I'm okay with RPing in discord, but greatly prefer the game itself, since it's more likely that a scene is going to finish in a timely manner. I got this thing about time continuity- regardless of where I'm roleplaying, things are happening when they're happening. So something that happens in discord will effect my character in the game, same as something in the game will carry over to any discord RP. So when a discord RP drags on for days, it gets in the way of the game's continuity, and ends up becoming a problem for me to sort out time-wise when interacting with other players, if that makes sense. This is only a non-issue if the person I'm discording with will never actually meet my character in-game, and it's more or less expected that the whole thing will be AU. Alternatively, they're so far removed from current goings-on that it's perfectly acceptable to ignore whatever else is going on. Am I the weird one in this? It seems to have bothered people when I tried to explain it in someone's FC a while back.

Maybe it's a little blunt, but I can't help but give this whole topic a chuckle and a "who woulda thunk that finding an RP date would be just as difficult as finding a real one?" I try to feel for these sorts of conundrums, but as someone who is Ace IRL, I just can't relate. I have straight males, but none of them are interested in the sort of RP that straight females are seeking out because I as the player do not engage in ERP- huh. I guess I'm part of the problem.
