1. I have a question that I've been pondering for awhile now. In game (on Balmung), there are two of these types of shells right now: Intermission and Backstage. Which one is actually planning to be used? Are they going to continue as is, be remade, or what? Just wondering because with only 8 linkshells slots, I'd rather not carry around two that have significant cross-over with one another Edit: Nor do I want to accidentally direct new members to the "wrong" one or confuse anyone.
2. Yoshi made a post about this yesterday on the beta forums (the FF collaboration part, not the xbox stuff). You can find the post here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ARR-Test/threads/82347-About-FF-Series-Collaboration?p=972944#post972944
3. I likely will add the server line to the little profile/sidebar there, as it's very easy to do so and I was already considering it. Done This thread has become very off topic from the OP's original intent, and I will thus be locking it. Furthermore, I urge people to step back and breath a bit. This server issue is still a very contentious issue for a lot of people. We don't need to keep bringing it up over and over and over again. All sides have already been heard a million times now for the last couple months. Arguing about it non-stop does nothing. Absolutely nothing. We all know where everyone stands. It's no secret. I fear that until phase 4 gets here (which could still be upwards of 2-3 weeks away for all we know), this issue can only get worse. Though I foresee it becoming less problematic post-phase 4. So until then, I ask that everyone refrain from these repeated 'debates.'
4. Did a much needed update to this after nearly a year of not touching it . Mostly just updated Basic Info, views on non-romantic relationships, and views on chat functions. Please note that all these views are my own and do not represent any other person's at all~ Also added skype info and an important note at the end that I wanted to emphasize. Made the note because I had some issues with this in 1.0. Basically, if I'm on a character other than my main (Kylin), I don't want to be disturbed with tells and the like unless it's specifically "hey, wanna RP?" or "hey, want to do this dungeon?" It's mostly a personal mood thing and I use my alts as a means to 'get away' from it all. So hopefully everyone will be able to respect that ^^; So yeah, alts are RP/progression onry please. Don't want to hear about what X person said or the latest drama while on them~
5. This census poll focuses on your main character's primary class. Note that jobs were left off of this for the following reason: Classes are required for jobs (as jobs are technically 'advanced training' of classes) but jobs are not required for classes. In other words, a character can consider themselves a thaumaturge without considering him/herself a black mage. On the other hand, you can't consider oneself a black mage without knowing thaumaturgy. Only existing classes are included in this poll. So please choose the one that best represents your character. In order to not skew the results, the "other" option is intentionally left off. We have to work with what SE gives us lore-wise right now after-all. So again, choose as best as you can and leave a more in depth response below! Arcanist Conjurer Thaumaturge Archer Gladiator Lancer Marauder Pugilist Alchemist Armoror Blacksmith Carpenter Culinarian Goldsmith Leatherworker Weaver Botanist Fisherman Miner
6. I was going to shoot you an email soonish to see what you were up to and if you were returning~ Welcome back!! I'll miss Nik though
7. I agree that there needs to be some etiquette adhered to going forward in order to minimize confrontations/competition. But that's probably something that's going to be difficult to enforce...especially with all of the very passionate people we have in the community. The original plan was to merely separate the Events section of the forum into two subsections: "Balmung Events" and "Gilgamesh Events." That was really the extent of any plans. And perhaps the same was to be done with the Leaders' Roundtable. Upon further examination, these plans /may/ be altered to better fit the needs of this community. No promises on these plans changing though, but the staff here will discuss and examine the matter thoroughly and figure out the best course of action as soon as possible. I don't like the idea of possibly removing the "hub" feel to the forums, and I certainly don't think each server needs its own art section, off topic section, ffxiv discussion, etc. On the other side of the coin, we don't want to have to constantly deal with passive-aggressive remarks from either server to the other in certain red zones like the RP discussion forum. Thus, we will examine what's best for the community as a whole and get back to everyone ASAP. In the meantime, we do ask that everyone remain respectful to one another, as that's always been rule #1 around here.

Nobles?

Just to add to the whole "house" and "noble" terminology debate, I figured I'd drop this here. There was a quest in Ul'dah that indicated the use of the the term "house" in regards to a past wealthy family called House Skryvner. The term "lord" has also been used to describe many of the wealthy house leaders (like Lord Lolorito, Lord Skryvner, etc). You can view the full transcripts of the quest regarding House Skryvner here: http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Dressed_to_Be_Killed/Plot_Details Some of the Ul'dahn Syndicate members have also been referred to as "nobles," such as in this FATE (that's right...Eolande from 1.0 is apparently dead ; ; ): http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/A_Few_Arrows_Short_of_a_Quiver Additionally, there's also a hint of the term "house" being used in Gridania, though this is a bit more open to interpretation. There's a drop in a Gridanian dungeon that makes mention of House d'Arlendre: http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Heart_of_House_d%27Arlendre [[Knows entirely way too much about the upper class of Eorzea >.>]]
9. Poll is now closed. Congratulations to Gilgamesh! *tosses confetti* We want to reiterate that there are some RPers who are still intent on going to other servers. This if fine, and those RPers are still welcome to post on these forums (and advertise linkshells in the Linkshell Hall as always). Balmung and Gilgamesh are merely the places those in the RPC will find RP in the most abundance. Congrats again Gilgamung!
10. Don't know anything about the Reddit situation so I can't comment on that >.> As for the the Behemoth issue...it's possible that it /could/ surpass Gilgamesh in votes over there. But it's something we're not going to fuss over. Many of the Behemoth crew have outright stated that they want nothing to do with the RPC many times now. So giving an events subforum to a group who won't even use it at all would just be silly >.>; Edit: This is all of course assuming something doesn't drastically change in the poll before it ends...which seems highly unlikely at this point.
11. In the event that they change server names, we may have to hold another vote (though I really hope to not go through this again). I think we'll just have to cross that road when we get there. Also lol @ the old poll I just linked still being open due to the forum transfer. I had to reclose it lmao
12. Congrats RPC for hitting membership of 1,000 today! *releases 1,000 balloons and tons of confetti from the ceiling* Yes, yes. I know we already hit 1,000 technically back in the day prior to the forum cleanup. But any reason to celebrate is a good one! Congrats demonadrastos! I need to find a new smiley to add to the forums for this...
13. You do remember last time, don't you? And you still call THIS a huge deal? Oh, the memories~ http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=513
14. Seriously guys...it's just a server name lol. Why is it such a huuuuge deal? Heck, SE may even end up changing the server names before launch. Or they may designate an official RP server still and nullify all of this. Just relax and go drink a soda or something. Where the heck are all the pro-Balthier people when ya need 'em?! All this drama over something that won't matter in a month is pointless. And the arguments about semantics is even more pointless. Ain't nobody got time for that! Back on topic, it seems the threshold will be met. 27 votes have been cast for Gilgamesh (-2 cancelled votes = 25). 13 wildcard votes have been cast...plus the 25 equals 38. I think it's safe to say the 40 will likely be met with little problem before the timer runs out. And at this point, even if it doesn't, it would be unfair to deny support for a poll that close to begin with. Of course, a flood of voters could still login I'm sure and the poll could go elsewhere. But it seems unlikely
15. Momoni, your concerns have been read and noted. And I see you've already voted. So how about you go make a post in the Welcome Desk and actually introduce yourself? The rest of you, just go back to spectating. Thanks!
16. You do realize that if the beta forums poll results differ from the RPC's now, all hell will likely break loose? I can't promise that we're going to recognize what happens over there in any shape or form. A discussion is ongoing with the forum team now about it though...
17. You won't be able to delete it now . I changed the settings earlier to prevent vote changing, as per the OP. But we'll factor that in the final tally~
18. Fractures are a natural part of any community. They happen, unfortunately. That said, this thread is simply off topic. The OP was merely asking a question and somehow we're in a heavy debate about how the site is run and whether there should be more than one supported server, etc. If one wishes to make a new thread about it, please feel free to. But I'm gonna lock this one because again, off topic.
19. Yes, non-legacy can roll on legacy servers (provided they don't fill up, but even then the lock would be temporary). Legacy people, however, can not transfer to a non-legacy world without creating a new character. Hope that clears it up!
20. This poll was advertised back in early-mid June on Zam, Gamer Escape, beta forums (multiple places), AND the official XIV forums (Lodestone). All of those posts linked to the RPC's post, where it states that user registration would be disabled. It is not our fault that people don't keep up to date on things. If you're completely new to the XIV universe and have never visited those sites before now (like I think Momoni is), great. We love new people and have done many many things to prove that. We hope you join us on Balmung and/or the secondary RP server. It's even easier because you can make multiple characters across servers! That being said, I apologize if we are unable to please EVERYONE. We've bent over backwards as is. We've hosted more than one RP event aimed specifically at new players (and have more coming). We've set up a mentor program. We've barraged the welcome desk with greetings. We've pulled newcomers into the skype chatrooms. And we've setup a poll for a secondary RP server because that's what people were begging for about a month or so ago. And yet, all over the place, some people out there call us "elitists." They call us "condescending." They call us "controlling." They call us a lot of things. And we've done nothing but try to be welcoming and accommodating. I apologize if this site isn't being run as some would like it. But it is a privately owned website. If some disagree so much with how it's managed, those parties are free to start their own site (though that would be sad to see...). THIS site's goal from day one when I first set out to organize it was to unite Rpers onto ONE server. We've already started to be accommodating with the coming of 2.0 by looking at a second server option. To ask us to go even further is a lot to ask. Yes, it's called "Hydaelyn Role-Players." 'Cause that's what -I- chose to call it. It doesn't have some deep meaning behind the name. This happened in the 1.0 poll. It happens in every other MMO's RP server selection. Can't please everyone. We are not shifting gears at this point. We're not adding a third of fourth server into the mix. If people wish to go to other servers, more power to them. We hope they change their minds later down the road and try to support the RP community as a whole.
21. Just to clarify, the only reason that was mentioned was to emphasize that people will find this site easily and look to see what servers it's largely supporting. Hence why fragmenting people is something we don't want to display. Also, the whole "elitist" accusations have to stop now. Or calling people "condescending." People are growing tired of being called that when all they want to do is RP with as many people as possible. And it speaks volumes that the name calling always seems to start from the same side of the aisle.
22. Just a reminder. If you're rolling on Balmung, this poll is not for you~. You do not need to vote. Part of the purpose behind this poll is to find out how much actual interest there even actually is for our community with regards to a secondary RP server.
23. Adamantoise Behemoth Cactuar Coeurl Diablos Gilgamesh Goblin Leviathan Malboro Midgardsormr Ultros Cerberus (EU) Moogle (EU) Odin (EU) Shiva (EU) I have no preference so long as it is a non-Legacy server. (Wildcard) -IMPORTANT- Please do not vote unless you are planning to make one of these non-Legacy servers your primary roleplaying server. You will not be able to change your vote after it is cast, so please read the rules and guidelines below first and vote carefully. First and foremost, we'd like to remind everyone that the RPC does not require any of its members to play on any server that they do not want to play on. There is a reason the Linkshell Hall allows you to put anything you wish into the "Server" field so long as it is a Final Fantasy XIV server. The only reason we have an unofficial roleplaying server at all is because most roleplayers want the largest, most cohesive community possible. The purpose of this poll is to help us gauge how many members of the RPC are interested in a non-Legacy server instead. This poll will be open for exactly 24 hours from July 1st 1pm ET to July 2nd 1pm ET. (Countdown at top of post) In the interest of fairness, we will be checking the votes for duplicate accounts. Member registration will be temporarily disabled until the poll is over to prevent cheating and to ensure that everyone who votes is at least interested in being a part of the RPC community. We will also not allow votes to be changed after they are cast. In past server polls, the ability to change your vote led to quite a lot of drama and hurt feelings. We'd like to avoid that this time around. If you do not have a preference, but you know that you will roll on whatever non-Legacy server is chosen, you have the option to cast a "wildcard" vote. At the end of the poll, all the "wildcard" votes will be combined with the server that has the most votes. In order to be selected, any given server has to have more than 40 votes (about 4.1% of registered users on the RPC) total once the wildcard votes are added to it. We feel that if a server has 40 forum members behind it, it will be worth the effort to support its own event forum as a secondary server even if said members become inactive in the future. Once the voting is finished, the server with the highest vote count will be awarded the "wildcard" votes. For example, if the Adamantoise server wins with 21 votes, and there are 16 people who voted "no preference (wildcard)", the total votes for for Adamantoise would become 37. Adamantoise would win the poll, but would fail to get the 40 votes required. The result of this poll will be final, barring mitigating circumstances, so please do not be upset if your server is not chosen. In the interest of community cohesion, Balmung will remain the primary server (again, barring mitigating circumstances) and we will continue to recommend it to those who prefer to be where the largest gathering of roleplayers are, but for those who— for whatever reason— do not wish to join a legacy server, we will recommend the secondary non-Legacy server. The RPC resources will still be available to all communities on all servers as it has always been, but we cannot be expected to maintain a separate event subforum for every one of them. That said, we hope everyone has a good day today, whatever the outcome of this poll. Thank you!
24. One of our mods, Ellie, actually custom made that font I believe . It is pretty snazzy, isn't it? I know several people have asked about it though. Hopefully she'll see this thread and give some more details about how she conjured it up!
25. We've been putting lots of pressure on them regarding an official RP server. My last private correspondence with a SE rep (last month) indicated that there were still no plans in the works, but they'd "poke the devs again" about it. It's very possible that this vote could be completely tossed out by launch if SE actually follows through. That's still a big if though, and it's better to be safe than sorry
