This is a rather simple one, though it may be tricky figuring out which one to pick for some people. Employed or unemployed are the only available options. Employment in this sense equates to the character actually having an IC job. This means they work for a SPECIFIC individual or organization of some sort, and are compensated regularly as such. If your character makes their living via theft, random adventures, random guildleves, etc, then they are most likely considered "unemployed" since those tend to be 100% freelance "temp jobs" that are unreliable and in constant flux. Thus, freelance mercenary work is considered "unemployed" unless you work for a specific mercenary organization (like the Immortal Flames, or a specific mercenary linkshell) or unless you have another steady job on the side. If your character was in the time warp, please use your own judgment to answer the question. If you're almost certain the character will return to their former job in some capacity after returning from the annals of space and time, then feel free to select "employed." To further add to the statistics, please post below what kind of IC job your character actually has. It may be possible to create further statistics from such data~

The stance on beta RP varies from person to person. From what I understand, there was some RP in the first two phases, but not much. There are two major obstacles that one has to take into account with the current beta. A number of characters took the time skip that SE provided in the lore at the end of version 1.0. It's technically unknown when these people are supposed to reappear. With some exceptions here and there, most people are planning to reappear IC in open beta and not any sooner. Lack of lore knowledge. We don't know how much the world has changed in the five years following Bahamut's attack. So it's very difficult to RP without knowing those details. For example, how has each zone (cities included) changed? That being said, there has been some RP in the previous phase of beta. Some of it was with alternate characters people used to play it safe though. It's expected for RP to increase more in phase 3 since the amount of content/lore available will at the very least triple in size. Plus, everyone gets their 1.0 character back as well. Open beta will, for many, still be considered the 'official start' for canon RP. That's not to say many aren't doing canon RP now of course. But open beta is technically the head start and progression is saved. So it makes sense to make things official from that point onward for many.

This is simply to gauge interest in a new feature I was looking into that looks pretty snazzy. It's called "CometChat" and basically mimes Enjin's interface slightly, with improvements of course. It has a fully integrated chat room (with the ability to add multiple rooms), the ability to send instant private talks to online users (like Enjin), ability to integrate with Facebook/Twitter (if we ever wanted to recreate the RPCs presence with social media that is), and other stuff. The problem? It costs a one time fee for the license. It starts at $50 and goes up to $500 depending on how advanced the version. You can view a demo here: http://www.phpchatsoftware.com/mybb/ (demo1 username wasn't working when I tried, so you may need to use demo2, 3, or 4 to login). My question is: Yay or nay? Is it something you think will enhance the RPC or does it seem unnecessary?
-
Those of you who had issues with the login box dropping down or the profile menu staying down, the issue should be fixed now after a page refresh. It seems the security update snuck in an altered javascript file that got rid of my edits to it. Sneaky bastards

I have a couple of reports regarding being unable to login due to the drop down login box not showing up. This is not an issue on the RPC's end, but rather the user's. Please delete cookies for ffxiv-roleplayers.com, restart your browser, and try again. If still having trouble, you'll probably have to wait for your computer/browser to 'catch up' or something. In the meantime, please use this page to login: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/member.php?action=login

It's not a bug. It's working fine for myself and several others. So it's definitely a cookie issue. Refresh your browser a couple times. If that fails, you'll need to delete cookies for this site.

Due to the rollback, some of the more recent votes may need to be redone. You'll know because the poll won't show results and will instead prompt you to make a selection. Sorry for the inconvenience.

It's unfortunate that I have to announce this, but I figured you'd all want an update anyway. Recently, the RPC was hacked. As a result, everything was purged by the hacker (forum posts and the entire wiki). It was restored, and then hacked again by the same individuals. Hence the reason it's been down for so long. Please note that your passwords are safe (they're encrypted, meaning even I can't see them). But if you feel the need to be extra safe, you can certainly change them. Due to the hacking, the forums (and wiki) had to be rolled back to their most recent backup. That means any additions/changes to the wiki and any posts from the 3rd and onward were not saved. This also means new registered users from before then need to reregister. I apologize for this inconvenience. Please feel free to repost anything you may be missing. Due to some updated files, certain tiny parts of the site may be partially broken as well. But these will be fixed asap. It is always encouraged that users have backups of their wiki profile and/or story posts in a text document on their computer. There's no telling when things like this can happen and even though backups are constantly made, the luck of the draw can translate to several days worth of content being lost. Numerous security measures have been added to the site to ensure it is more difficult for hackers to make these attempts in the future. In addition, our server host (Hostgator) has access to the attackers ISP address and their footprints and have been aggressively looking into the matter. Again, I'm deeply sorry for this major inconvenience.

Yeah, this is for RP linkshells only ^^;. I'll go ahead and lock this thread and move/delete it a bit later. But good luck with your shell and hope all works out well for it! PS: Love your logo design~

Thank the Twelve. Would have been super awkward to keep running around as "Kylin Mavanix" when his last name is technically Felstar

Ky is 25 at the start of ARR. He didn't take the time skip and I've thus had to fill up the last 5 years with all kinds of stuff. 8-)
-
Part VII of the census focuses on a very basic census question: age. What age bracket does your character fall under at the start of ARR? This is also a great chance to formally announce whether your character was in the ARR time skip or not, as we can further add those stats to this poll. For the sake of a controlled poll, remember that the time skippers were stuck in a place where the characters were unscathed by time (according to SE). That means if your character was 20 years old right before Dalamud, they'd still be 20 when they come out of the time skip (at least for this particular poll). Age brackets are as follows: 12 or lower 13-17 18-22 23-27 28-32 33-40 41-50 51-60 61+

Grats to Gerik for being named May's artist of the month!

Some more info on FFXIV was revealed at the convention this weekend. Revelations included the possibility of a PS4 version, an estimated release window of this summer, and the fact that the number of beta testers thus far has exceeded 500k!! Read the full article here: http://www.dualshockers.com/2013/04/27/final-fantasy-xiv-a-realm-reborn-release-window-confirmed-for-the-summer-ps4-version-hinted-new-major-npc-revealed/

Lessee...my family is still fairly decent sized even after the Mavanix slaughter . Father: Cartius Felstar Stepmother: Nefron Mirgolia (Felstar). Ky's birth mother is deceased. Nefron is primarily just a background npc with no real relevance. Sister: Elza Ashfen and Seraphine Winter (Seraphine may/may not be dead >.>) Uncle: Islude Felstar. Background character with little relevance, though his character is heavily based on his past incarnation in FFXI's RP community. Cousin: Undetermined yet, as a different player may be playing this character. But he/she does exist! Grandfather: Ziegfred Felstar. Background npc who's slowly dying at the start of ARR. Grandmother: Lily Felstar. Same as above, though not deathly ill like her husband.

This one is a bit different than the others. Please select ALL that apply, as you are allowed multiple votes in this poll. Please note that this poll pertains to LIVING family members. If, for example, you HAD a brother but he is now deceased at the start of ARR, do not select 'brother' in the poll (unless you have a second one). If you have multiple of one item (such as multiple brothers), you only need to select the category once. You can offer more explanation in your post if you wish. If you character is pregnant at the start of ARR, do NOT select 'son' or 'daughter' unless you know for sure that the child will be born and you have already determined its gender. In order to not get overly complicated, some options (particularly in-laws) have been left off of the poll. I also left off grandchildren since I'm assuming nobody is old enough for that yet (though post here if your main character is a grandparent ). Also, I ran out of options (can only have 20 max). So let's get started! What living family members does your character have?

Just a heads up that the old wiki (http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/wikiold/index.php?title=Main_Page ) will be completely eradicated in about a week's time. There's no real use to having it anymore as everything has pretty much been transferred (including most images I think). I don't think there's anything left there that hasn't been transferred, aside from maybe some pieces of lore (in which case those pages will be copied over to the other old wiki for archiving purposes for now).

I wouldn't be opposed to having a pearlsack (though I don't want to touch officership with ten foot pole). A ton of people kept coming to me in 1.0 for pearls and I couldn't give 'em at the time

Welcome back! Baltazar's Favor was such an interesting concept. It's a shame it's gone

I really think this was about a lot more than the original issue being discussed. I saw some personal grudges possibly shining through that had absolutely nothing to do with anything here. I've got a separate short post I'm planning to put up by the end of the day regarding this. 'Cause frankly, we need to address the bigger issue at hand if we want to successfully deal with disagreements like this in the future.

Daaaayyum. Those slots filled up fast :lol: I wouldn't mind envy. But if someone else wants it, I have no problem deferring to them ^^;

I'm starting to see a couple of personal attacks now....knock it off people. Disagreement and debate is fine. Personal attacks are not.
-
I've promised myself to largely stay out of this debate for fear of being accused of showing favoritism to one side over another. I have my own personal opinion, but I really don't want to focus on that aspect. I've kind of been caught in the middle of this though (lots of chats in the background) and so I decided to leave some words of wisdom about the greater scheme of things. After all, I'm starting to see the past repeat itself in a way. Anyone can take this 'wisdom' or leave it, as I won't overrule any decision made either way. But I think people should hear this at the very least... Once upon a time 3 years ago, the RPC was ruled by an RPC Council and a Charter. Everything was decided by majority vote. And by everything, I mean just about everything. There were polls to hold polls and end polls. Any amendment to the charter required a poll. If the RPC had a bathroom, we'd likely have had a poll as to what brand of toilet paper to use. As with any community, there was a minority that often got overlooked as a result of these ruling polls. This minority eventually got fed up with feeling like outcasts and, sadly, left the RPC and never looked back. Some of these RPers still exist today and even now look at the RPC with contempt because of the past. One can easily make the statement that those people 'need to get over it.' And while I agree with that to an extent, one can't hold them at total fault for their bitterness. It's only human nature after all. They felt like they didn't belong and that the RPC wasn't inclusive of all the different styles and beliefs like it promoted itself to be. Perhaps this was true, perhaps not. One can make the argument either way. Fast-forward three years. The people who left because of those feelings have still not returned (despite returning to the game and RP in general), and may never return to the larger FFXIV RP community ever again, regardless of the vast changes that have been made since their departure. They still remember the past RPC not representing their needs and wants, and they want no part of that entity. This is sad, because some of these individuals are incredibly talented artists, writers, and Rpers who would have the ability to take the RPC to even new heights than it's already reached. What's my point in all this? Sometimes, 'majority rule' isn't always the best option. Sometimes, it's perfectly fine to accommodate the minority without at all negatively impacting the majority. The end result is everyone being happy and getting what they want out of the community. I've already heard several people question whether they want to continue to support the wiki at all. That's not something I like to hear. And it's not healthy for the community that people feel that way at all . The minority is already being pushed away and history is slowly repeating itself. Do we really want to repeat the mistakes of the past? Just to satisfy personal beliefs as to how something that doesn't have a huge impact on the overall population should/should not be? I've learned over the years that there's usually more than enough room to accommodate most RPers. Sure, there are some circumstances where demands can't be met. But when the demands can be met without any real negative impact, why not go for it and make the minority feel like they still belong? There's already been some degree of a rift growing between certain sectors of the RP community and even something as small as this debate seems to be causing that rift to grow. Just something to think about...

I guess I'll start since I just realized I haven't posted in any of these yet for my characters -.- Ky does indeed swing both ways. He does have an inclination to go for male over female though, but that's mostly because he has a "white knight complex" (is that even real? >.>; ) where he kind of has a very fatal attraction to the strong 'heroic' type. He's primarily drawn to hyur, followed by miqo'te, followed by elezen. He is not at all attracted to roegadyn or lalafell (sorry!). Basically, as a guy, all one has to do is be really nice and understanding of him and that's almost enough to warrant a crush . Add danger to the equation and he becomes even more fascinated with the guy (ie: mercenary, etc). Physically, they have to be well built (sorry scrawny dudes). Less scars is better, and good hair can't hurt Women are very different in regards to who Ky is attracted to. He likes women who are classy (ie: rich, fashionable, and well-mannered), strong-willed, and seductive. Physically, they generally need to be in good shape (some curves are okay). He likes long hair on women as well. Personality, anyone who's not a total biotch will do . Preferably motherly in nature though.

This poll may be a bit 'odd' to some but it was in high demand and people were genuinely interested in the results. So please remember that we're all adults and please act as such. Should you be uncomfortable with this poll or disagree with it, you are free to not vote at all and wait for next week's poll. Alternatively, I've added a special option to the poll just for people if they still want to contribute without actually contributing (if that makes sense). I've left the poll titled "romance" instead of "sexuality" because I feel it's a better indicator. One's orientation doesn't always have to be equated with sexual behavior and can instead just as easily refer to emotional attachment. As such, should you post details, please keep them appropriate for the forums. Nobody wants/needs to know how freaky your character may/may not get in the bedroom >.>. I'd personally suggest keeping posts mainly focused on what kind of characters (gender, personality, looks, etc) your character is attracted to. You may also want to post your character gender to further add to the results ^^. Options are: heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, pansexual (still don't get the difference with this one to bisexual but added it anyway due to demand ), asexual, other, and no answer. Remember, this polls is aimed at what your character is, not what the player is.
