  1. There are two problems with that though. 1. Multiple Rp servers vying for prominence in the RP community (and trying to bolster linkshell numbers) for an extended period of time will create a very competitive and toxic environment in this community. The RPC doesn't want anything to do with that, and wants to wash its hands of it here and now. The RPC was originally formed to unite RPers, and allowing something like that to happen is completely contradictory to our purpose. 2. Even if issue #1 is completely avoided by some miracle, there's still the problem of community bonds. By creating a "trial run" for multiple servers, we allow time to pass in which individuals will develop friendships with other people on their servers. By the time one server is clearly out on top, it would be too late. A number of people would be unwilling to change servers at that point and the RP population would suffer potential stagnation even faster as a result.
  2. Because that would only further dilute the Rp population. RPers are a minority, no matter how you look at it. And several months into launch, populations are going to drop (as it does in any MMO). Having them spread out all over the place would only make it more difficult for the overall RP community to survive (see FFXI). Now, if people still want to go to another server beyond Balmung and this upcoming server vote winner, they're free to do so. Nobody can stop them. But the RPC (which comes up first in a google search for ffxiv rp) isn't going to promote that and further contribute to the dilution of the RP population, as that's counter to its overall purpose. Any RP shell, regardless of server, can still advertise themselves in the Linkshell Hall and post here though. But we're not going to set up extra forum sections for them or anything. nor will we exert any effort in funneling RPers to those servers.
  3. The possibility of server names changing is very much something people should stay aware of. In that event, another poll would have to be held immediately upon the server names being known (unless SE decided to finally label one of the new servers as a RP one, which would take everything out of our hands). At the very least, the vote will allow individuals to congregate on one of the beta servers and start forming connections however they see fit for the duration of phase 3, connections that could then easily transfer to the newly named servers (assuming there are newly named servers).
  4. Y'know...my patience is running low with regards to these kind of "discussions" that warrant passive-aggressive jabs from particular parties. This is a community. I suggest people start treating it as such and conduct themselves in a manner that someone would generally conduct themselves in any community. Or, go find another community that fits your needs. With all due respect, jwhyrock, nobody here has hurled a single insult your way. Yet you have hurled more than one now. For literally no reason at all. And the only posts you've made on these forums thus far are in this thread, stirring up an already heated debate. This thread has literally run its course. A vote is taking place Monday for those who want a unified secondary Rp server. There's nothing more to discuss. This whole topic right now is just circles over and over and over again. Thread locked.
  5. I have Saturday off, so I can actually make this one. Yay! I'll be there as Elza, though I'll have to remake her in Ul'dah as a fresh level one since she's stuck in Limsa. So the tough guys better be willing to be knightly protectors ICly, I'll have to have her just stumble across it though while putting up gala fliers at the Coffer and Coffin or something >.>
  6. Ok, I did not notice that the end got entirely lopped off there. That is indeed a forum character limit restriction in play and nothing else. I'll have to see if it'll let me add the rest in (or make a second post with the rest). Wish someone would have clearly pointed that part out in the beginning
  7. I don't like the fact that this is turning into a quasi-witch hunt accusing those who had legitimate concerns of having a 'wrong' opinion. This is pretty much a moot point now anyway, as I'll be creating a new "pub" type of section similar to the past for these kind of LS discussions/commentary. It'll probably get nuked/merged with the RP Discussion thread several months post-launch when things die down. But for now, I think that's the perfect middle of the road solution. Edit: For the record, I'm also a bit insulted at the assumption that I "caved" to a "minority's" demands.
  8. And again, the notes put up ARE transparent. The only redaction was that of the PM and the talk involving it. What you saw was EDITED DURING the meeting. As such, we can't copy the original message over.
  9. The only other "redaction" I can think of that would make you so strongly in favor of its reveal would be a negative comment regarding the skype chat's usage. That comment was actually edited by the person who said it minutes after the fact, so it wasn't really a redaction since the edit was in the copy/pasted chat. Though, assuming this is what you're referring to, I'm a bit concerned that something like that reached people outside the meeting so quickly and makes me wonder how much gossip is going on while the meeting is ongoing...And that's quite disheartening. If this is the "redaction" you're talking about, I have to say I'm a little puzzled why you want it public so badly. It kind of comes across like you're trying to take a personal vendetta into the public in order to give a lashing to said person who said the comment. And that's just not cool This is kind of off topic from the original post quite a bit though.
  10. Hehe, we did this in Crystalline awhile back. So I'll just copy/paste that over~ Kylin: Careful though. That chibi maker is horribly addicting if you're not careful >.>
  11. The randomizing order thing is something I recently tried to look into actually. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that likely. I'll look into it further though just to be safe. It's entirely possible to change the order of posts based on other criteria though, rather than "most recent posts." But none of these criteria really make sense, save maybe alphabetical...but I'm not sure I like that ordering system much either. As for the redaction issue...that's something to take up with all the LS leaders. Not myself or the staff here. THEY want stuff redacted for their own sakes. To give an example...this last meeting only had one redaction really. It was a PM someone shared with the group. That PM and parts of the conversation surrounding it were redacted for very good reason (privacy reasons). Heck, in that instance I would have made the decision to redact that even if the LS leaders wanted it public because it was a PM on this site, and I don't believe in the exposure of something like that without the author's consent. I'll probably go ahead and implement Merri's idea for LS discussions/banter though, leaving the LS Hall strictly for announcements and such.
  12. We actually did this back in the day with the "Pub" section. We knocked down the administration center (originally used for LS to post rules or something like that) and put up a tavern . It worked for awhile. Maybe putting it back up again would do some good, though it'll probably get removed again later down the line when the forums die down.
  13. I know plenty of leaders as well? If they're going to complain about something like this, they'd go to the forum staff, not you (no disrespect intended). And nobody is "up in arms." Annoyed would probably be the better term to use. This is simply a matter of etiquette that has existed since this community was first established three years ago. And it works well. I'd like some clarification to the whole "you don't have a right to exclude things in an interaction like that" statement. As I may be horribly misinterpreting that and don't want to say what I'm thinking of saying in response until I know for sure what's meant by it. Are you talking about the -placement- of the meeting transcripts? The redaction of certain portions requested by the leaders? Or something else?
  14. Making it admin access only would be only more of a headache (for both myself and those who wish to post a new shell up). Besides, it would also make LS update posts and edits less manageable. This issue is only a problem at this stage of pre-launch, and will almost certainly go away post-launch (like it did in 1.0). That's the only reason I'm posting about it now. Though a sticky may be a good idea ^^ Not bumping in the normal sense, no. But the random little posts here and there ARE a minor problem. Otherwise, I wouldn't have LS leaders contacting me and saying as such, nor would I be making this post. As I said in my OP, we don't need Linkshells looking negatively upon other shells based on something as minor as this that can easily be prevented. Back in the day, things were no different either. The section was reserved primarily for updates from the linkshells, not actual discussions that would keep the linkshell at the top of the listings. Questions and updates are fine. The examples I listed in my OP are not, however. Again, this is only a temporary issue that will resolve itself on its own post-launch. This post is just to increase awareness to the temporary issue. Adding features/posting restrictions is highly unnecessary when a simple reminder like this is generally effective enough. As for the LS leader meetings...that is up the LS leaders and them alone. The meeting minutes are already very transparent and only parts THEY want left out are left out. And they have every right to privacy in certain discussions.
  15. Hey guys, this has recently become a minor problem so I wanted to make a quick post about it. Threads in the Linkshell Hall are being constantly bumped lately when not needed. At least a couple of other LS leaders have become agitated by it and I'd rather a bumping war not start anytime soon. Please limit posts in the Linkshell Hall to primarily updates about the shell in general. Random commentary such as "cool concept!" or "looking forward to RPing with this group" are unnecessary. A high volume of the recent comments in this part of the forum can/should be kept in PMs. Constant bumping of threads to the top of the list can stir up a competitive atmosphere and unfriendly feelings toward said shells. Thank you for your understanding in this matter!
  16. New census poll time! This is an easy one, though the results may greatly interest many of you. Did your primary character fight at the Battle of Cartenau and get transported 5 years into the future, or did he/she end up staying behind for the five years? For those who are completely new to ARR and are still scratching their heads over the whole "time skip" concept, I'll break it down very simply for you. Basically, there was a big final battle at the end of 1.0 between the Garleans and the Eorzean Alliance. During the battle, Bahamut broke free of Dalamud and wreaked havoc (as seen in the video). As Bahamut prepared to destroy the remnants of the battle, Louisoix cast a powerful spell by invoking the power of Althyk, god of time and space. The spell transported most of those who were at the battle into the future in order to protect them. So any RPers who happened to RP being at the battle were caught in the time jump. Those who were NOT at the battle were left behind. New players are probably mostly 'stay behinds.' That said, it's not completely set in stone and even newbies can RP having been at the battle and warped if they really wanted to, though it could prove to be more challenging. At any rate, did your character get wrapped into the spell's effect and become untouched by time for five years? Or did they stay behind and live out their 'normal' post-apocalyptic lives for the past five years? Share your vote and your thoughts below!
  17. This is your best bet. Alternatively (yay for options!), you can go to your profile page (not UCP, but your actual profile page that is publicly viewable), and click on the "Posts" or "Threads" tab to see your most recent posts.
  18. Ok, before this thread proceeds, people need to start reading over their posts before spazzing on the "post" button. Everyone is free to their opinions here, whether they be radical, moderate, or whatever. However, some of you need to really fix your TONE. That's my big gripe right now. Tone sets the mood for everything, and I've noticed that some here are coming off as way too abrasive/defensive/whatever. Stop it. Just stop. Like in real life, people have to modify their behavior in society regardless of how brash they want to be. This is no different.
  19. Firstly, this thread is starting to get slightly off topic. As a news post, it's not really meant for discussions like this. In addition, we've already had similar debates in another thread that got heated and locked. We're literally chasing tails with these fears and arguments, as there are zero true solutions for said problems aside from waiting to see what happens. Second, the July 1st was selected in order to give a proper balance of giving SE time to name a server while still getting a secondary one named ASAP. For those who haven't noticed, a tug of war is already starting to develop in the RP community. People are trying to tug RPers to certain other servers. People are also already establishing themselves on said servers and many have no intention of migrating at this stage. Thus, the sooner a secondary server is selected, the better. Should SE name an official RP server after the fact (seeming increasingly unlikely as of late since the deadline for server migration is already set in stone for mid July...), the decision can easily be reversed. But right now, people are making connections and getting overly antsy. It would not behoove the community to postpone things much longer in that regard.
  20. It's exactly as Rhostel said. I already did give a lot of thought into same gender partners, but decided it was best to focus on the dance aspect rather than that. The reason being that the contest is randomized partners and it could get very uncomfortable (IC and/or OOC) for people/characters who are heterosexual. It basically gets way too complicated. That said, the second half of the event has nearly unlimited freedom and one can dance with anyone they wish, regardless of gender/orientation.
  21. Yup~ I had a list of people I already interacted with IC back in a previous phase, but I lost it >.>. But I do remember you volunteering! I did find a merchant who sells ash masks (full face) for about 400 gil or so if I remember correctly. I forget which town it was in though. I'll find the npc again before the event. Yes, a ball. It'll start with a dinner though first. Formal wear is encouraged, but not required. So long as someone doesn't show up in underwear/subligar, they're fine lol. "Formal" can really mean anything if you pull if off correctly. Or, as suggested above, one can use their imagination and just emote it properly for others to know (and/or include pictures!).
  22. Updated the original post with more info and a fancy new flier! Also put in a projected date, though this could EASILY end up changing. This is purely based on the projection of the beta testing phases and should for now be treated as a placeholder. In regards to the party RP, please remember that this is only for the first portion of the event. The second half will allow for complete mobility and freedom. The reason this is being done is to allow a chance for more intimate RP between small groups (and no, not that kind of "intimate" you pervs!). Large RP gatherings can make it very difficult for people to mingle on any meaningful level. This is especially true for those who are somewhat reserved OOCly. The initial party system will allow smaller groups to interact with one another in a much more meaningful and intimate way. I've found in my many 1.0 events that dividing a large group into smaller groups can be extremely effective in making one's RP experience much more memorable. This won't be an issue. The tables do not need to be even nor do they have to seat the exact same number as every other table. The bigger problem will be whether there will be enough seats. But I've taken that into account for the most part now. Due to the way this is being set up, you will likely be too busy in your OWN conversations to worry about other tables right away ^^ Absolutely. Someone from Table A may not be able to overhear someone from Table B. But seeing their actions is another thing completely. In addition, should it get rowdy between some, there is nothing wrong with /say or /yell to make the scene more powerful. However, most will be urged to stay in /party for the first half of the event. Since you will be at your own table with your own randomized group, this won't really apply. Those with specialized roles in the event (such as hired guards) will have a tad more freedom for the first half of the event than regular attendees though. That said, one can get up and roam if they want. But it's not encouraged until the second half of the event. For the first half of the event, you'll only need to "introduce" yourself to your fellow table members. This can be done however one pleases of course.

    Nobles?

Whee! This is right up my alley! As most know, my characters are part of a (complex) noble family. So I've had to become pretty familiar with this topic in a short amount of time. It should also be noted that most of the smaller villages/hamlets in the wilds are technically under jurisdiction of their respective city-state. So their cultures, while they differ slightly, are still usually in line with their region's city-state. Ul'dah is indeed the center of noble-related matters in Eorzea for the most part. The thing one has to remember here though is that the Syndicate (6 individuals) are THE richest of the city-state. Nobody is on par with them, and those who RP a noble need to understand that and find the proper balance. That said, there are numerous other nobles within the city, many of which are vying for a seat on the Syndicate themselves. Others just try to mind their own business. Of course, the nobility is still far outnumbered by the lower class. There are a lot of people who go to Ul'dah for the opportunity to get rich, but don't necessarily get rich. I guess that's really no different than in the real world when someone leaves their country for another one in hopes of better opportunities. Gridania does have the potential to have nobles now, with a slight twist. *minor spoiler alert, though nothing major* Gridania is in massive debt to Ul'dah. MAAAASSSIVE. Ul'dahn nobles took advantage of the Calamity to cash in and loaned a crap ton of gil to Gridania to rebuild (structures and aetheryte network especially). So it wouldn't be unrealistic to see an Ul'dahn noble here or there move into Gridania to further exploit the city-state's current predicament. Or even opposite of that, perhaps there could be a noble or two who moved there out of genuine concern for the city's plight and could be sympathetic to the citizens being practically owned by Ul'dah. Limsa Lominsa...I'm not really aware of any real "nobility" here. As stated earlier in another post, nobles here would just be pirates made rich from plundering or treasure finds. Or there's once again the possibility of nobles from another location moving here to gain some advantage of some sort I suppose. That being said, there's also evidence of nobility beyond Limsa's gates. Costa del Sol is a prime example. If you want to speak to the npcs in the area, you can get a feel for that. The guards there are all employed by a noble. Ishgard is still much a mystery even after all this time. They've closed off their gates to outsiders by order of their archbishop (their supreme leader and church head) due to a holy war with the dragons. However, there is plenty of evidence to support the fact that there are indeed nobles within the city. There's also talk of the "High Houses" such as House Dzemael. What the overall role of nobles in Ishgardian society is remains somewhat hazy at this time. We do know that chocobo breeding/training originated there though. Radz-at-Han is another city-state that has a large focal point on nobles. This city-state is foreign to Eorzea (and inaccessible at this time and probably for at least a couple expansions I would assume). It's on an island nation called Thavnair (on a continent called Meracydia). There is lore, however, that mentions the fact that this city-state is run by "houses," indicating that's it not /too/ dissimilar to Ul'dah in that respect. Long story short, it's possible to have nobles anywhere technically. All that's required is an IC reason for being there that won't contradict the lore. I don't think it's unreasonable to make your own IC manor/estate somewhere in the "country."

  25. Yes, it's too late. Barracks are full, we don't have enough food left, and so on. Move along now~ I kid of course... OR DO I?! Welcome back~ I remember you quite well. I thought Baltazor's Favor was an awesome concept and was sad to see it go. I can think of a couple linkshells that would likely fit you very well, but I don't think I should plug any in this forum section (etiquette and all ). Either way, hope to see you in Eorzea this time around~
