1. This is the start of a series of polls that together will make the first "RPC Census." This census is meant to gauge the general direction RPers in the community lean in certain areas. It will help measure popularity of various concepts, from race to character wealth to character sexuality and much more! Another purpose is to help reveal what's not popular so RPers have a chance to consider trying to fill a missing niche in the community if they so choose to. And of course, this is all just for fun and entertainment as well! Each poll will remain open for about 2 weeks and you're certainly able to change your vote at any time should you change your mind. ALL polls in the census should focus strictly on your MAIN CHARACTER. Alts do not count, nor do the NPCs in your family. All questions are strictly about your primary RP character only. This first poll is the easy one and focuses on race/gender popularity in the RP community. So to get it underway, which race/gender is your primary character?! Note: Clans are not taken into account for this poll. Highlander and midlanders, for example, are put into the same general hyur category. Feel free to post your clan if you wish though. Edit: In fact, I'll likely add clans to the overall statistics but can't edit the poll at this point. Instead, please respond with your clan in a post here. If no response is given, I'll contact all the poll voters via PM and ask their clan so I can add it all into the neat chart later.
2. This is great information! However, most long-standing XIV RPers aren't going to make drastic changes to their names at this point. Had this info come two years earlier, it may be a different story. It'll certainly come in handy for new characters we make though, as well as NPCs. I figure there are millions upon millions of inhabitants in Eorzea. It's only natural not all of them follow the cultural conventions. A few hundred adventurers/inhabitants who stray from normal names certainly won't break anything. I figure if I have a character at any time that goes against the naming conventions and someone asks ICly about the name, a simple response would be: "I dunno, ask my parents." And that's the end of that. Awesome info either way and glad they're at least giving it to us now, even if it is a little late for some of us. Looking forward to what other lore bombs they plan to eventually share with us via this new forum
3. Due to various concerns brought forth in private over the last week or so, as well as to avoid less confusion, I'll be removing the 'several months prior to present day' timeline from this event. As most people seem to be considering open beta as the present day happenings anyway (as in, time skippers returning around that time), the attempt to make the event take place at an earlier point in time has become moot and will cause further confusion for people who have already started canon RP with their characters before and after the event. I'll edit the original post to reflect that in due time. To summarize, the event will take place in -present day- time just like any normal public RP event as opposed to 'x months prior to launch.' Those who time skipped are still highly encouraged to bring an alt to play on the safe side in terms of future SE lore bombs regarding the time jump. But it is no longer required and it is highly likely that a few time skippers will be present at the event. We'll just have to go forward assuming that people are returning at slightly different times until SE proves us wrong. This decision could be reversed again should SE reveal something crucial about the time skippers that would go against them being ICly back during open beta. A location may have been settled on, though I'd still like to have more time before making it official. Date still pending obviously.
4. I think it's pretty cool you want to give such an extensive story behind your family 8-) . I know first-hand that doing such is no easy feat. My House Mavanix history took a tremendous amount of effort, time, and thought to complete, so I know it's quite a challenge. Just be mindful of some of the things people have already mentioned so you don't put yourself in a corner or make it difficult to be taken seriously. You'll notice that I kept away from mentioning things like the Syndicate, Sultana, or other NPC structures created by SE. While House Mavanix was certainly influential and powerful, it was important to keep their influence away from potential lore-breaking aspects in the game. While it's not mentioned in the wiki much, there are IC chats in game where I have made it clear that the house had to get permission from certain more powerful establishments in Eorzea's lore to go about their excavations and so on. And the end of the wiki profile/storyline is a prime example of how one can indirectly use powerful SE made NPCs without breaking lore--it was Ul'dahn officials who dissolved House Mavanix due to the bad name it was giving Ul'dahn nobles from all of its deception that came to light. This also makes it abundantly clear that the house had no power/influence over more powerful figures likes the Syndicate, something I think is important to establish in these kind of stories. That being said, I'll give you my personal experience on the whole thing in hopes that it helps you somehow. Please note that House Mavanix no longer exists. The big public storyline that played out before the end of 1.0 resulted in their downfall, and the revelation that my primary characters actually belonged to another noble family (House Felstar). There's a very good reason I went about this IC "reset," and I'll explain that in a bit. The first thing I did when I set out on this project was establish the current era of House Mavanix. This was the easiest part because I already had my main character's immediate family planned out. So it was easy to know who the reigning patriarch was (his father), and establish what House Mavanix was all about. I set the family's roots around artifacts, as I figured this would give rise to numerous interactive RP possibilities down the line. So the family was essentially the owners of a museum called the Avalon Heritage Museum. They had a small excavation team that worked on finding artifacts to add to said museum. Originally, this was meant to be the only real source of the family's wealth. But when one starts creating a more in depth history, things start to get added in along the way . Anywho...once I established the very basics of the current era, I decided to go all the way back to the first era and start working toward the current era from there. The first thing I had to do was establish how far back to go. I didn't want to go too far back for fear of not having enough lore to make things believable. But I wanted a strong lineage that spanned back a decent amount of time. I ultimately went with a 200 year history, as lore kinda starts getting more sketchy 250-300 years in the past in regards to Ul'dahn and Sil'dihn lore (or at least at the time of my creating the history). So I went to work in starting the founding of House Mavanix ~200 years ago. I needed to tie it into the whole museum/excavation concept as well. So Joachim Mavanix (a foreign military man turned lower class miner upon arriving to Eorzea) was born, though much of his history remained purposely mysterious. The rest is history and can be viewed in the wiki profile. Those who read it will notice that there are a lot of murky details the further you go back in the history. This is a natural vibe I wanted to create, as the same is true in real life. The further back one goes in history, the more hazy certain details become. Once the founding era and current era were hashed out, it was merely a matter of filling in the middle. This is where things get a bit more fun, as there are plenty of oppurtunities to have side stuff going on such as internal family drama, external threats, etc. Long story short, like many of my stories, a lot of the in between content was made up as I went along. This is where concepts such as the Mavanix Academy (still used by other RPers in some of their own backgrounds ^^) and Margarah (fashion line that I've grown very fond of) were born. Other enemies were also formulated along the way, including a breakaway portion of the family called "Decretum Umbra," who served as a major antagonist for the Outer Heaven RP shell back in the day. And then I just found ways to tie it all together into a neat little package. The one thing to keep in mind here is that I don't like throwaway characters. Every character I ever make (and people here will testify that there were a lot of 'em ) has a purpose. Every character has a story and should be given enough attention to reflect that. Treating characters as throwaways and simple filler will only cheapen the entire history/story. Every character needs to be viewed as a unique entity of their own rather than just someone who exists solely to fill in a gap. I think I succeeded pretty well at doing this, and those who actually followed the full history of the family (wiki and in game) can probably attest to that. So after all my work and attention to detail, why would I allow it to be ICly destroyed? Why would I ICly reset my characters to be part of a different family? To put it simply, it was because of the extensive history itself that I did this. House Mavanix became an entity of its own, separate from my own characters. Its vast history completely removed my focus from my main characters (namely Kylin and Elza). My characters became 'slaves' to the family history rather than their own entities. It was almost as if my actual main characters become throwaways themselves, and I couldn't have this. As long as House Mavanix existed, they'd continue to be overshadowed by the house itself. While I enjoyed creating the extensive history and RPing parts of it out in game, a person is only capable of focusing on so much at once. And my focus shifted /away/ from my actual primary characters. Of course, I don't believe in retconning as such things can impact other characters you met along the way. So instead, I worked a storyline to ICly shift my characters away from House Mavanix entirely and free them of those shackles so to speak. While I'm now working on a history for House Felstar as well, it's going to be faaar less extensive and was purposely designed to be easy to follow. While the history technically goes slightly further back than House Mavanix, it's significantly shorter and less dramatic. The family tree is VERY straightforward and less convulted and the family members in it are all perma deceased and have no need for a full blown history behind them. If someone ICly inquires in game about "so and so Felstar," it'll be a 'make it up as you go along' approach this time around. In this way, I can keep my primary focus where it matters--with my actual primary characters. I know doing so kind of goes against my 'not creating throwaway characters just to fill the gaps' belief, but I found that one has to make sacrifices in certain areas when it comes to these kinds of things. You either make a kickass family history at the expense of your main characters, or you make kickass main characters at the expense of your extensive history. I've come to the conclusion that I'd rather have the kickass characters myself . I'm not trying to persuade you one way or the other. Just giving you my experience on it all. I greatly enjoyed creating House Mavanix and its craziness. But it cost me a lot of good interactions with other RPers with my actual main characters. I spent so much time and energy RPing out the family's history that it left Kylin and Elza in very stagnant places development-wise. It's an issue I'm striving hard to resolve in ARR right from the start. Just be mindful of where you place all your attention in this project. Either way though, good luck ^^
5. Goal achieved (and then some that can go toward next year ). Thank you so much to those who contributed. We met the goal in literally about 24 hours, a new record speed for renewals here. I appreciate the donations greatly and I'm sure everyone else here does as well. So thanks again!!
6. Yeah, it'll take place (in theory) before the time warpers return. The reason for this is to keep things "safe" lore-wise if possible. I know a lot of people are of differing opinions as to when the time travelers start appearing. This is meant to avoid any potential conflict in that regard.--No longer valid. Ignore. Alternatively, I could have it set in present day. But we'd all have to be on the same page in regards to that particular scenario...which is unlikely unless all time skippers simply agree to bring an alt regardless . I'm interested in feedback about this, as I'd like it all to be as non-confusing as possible.
7. The following flier can be found posted on bulletin boards of various establishments throughout Eorzea. ((Click image to enlarge)) =====DATE MODIFIED DUE TO ONGOING SERVER ISSUES===== Official date is September 7th, at 7pm Eastern Time. The 7th Annual Full Cold Moon gala is meant to provide a social setting for new and old RPers alike to help integrate themselves into the community. It takes place in present day (the previous 'few months prior to present day' setting has been dropped). Due to the likelihood of a large turnout, there are some rules and some degree of structure for the event. These rules and structure are listed below. Rules/Structure! Event is 100% IC. Please keep OOC chat to a bare minimum or contained in chat channels outside of /say. My character for this entire event is Elza Ashfen. All questions should either be sent to her via tell. I will be in tell hell. So please understand responses will be slower than normal. Upon arrival, STAY at the gate. There's more than 1 gate into Fellsgourd Float. An event mod will be at each one (as well as other predetermined locations just in case people don't read these instructions). Do NOT head into the heart of the city until escorted. If your character is sneaking into the event and not paying the IC fee, that's fine. Just send myself or an event mod a tell that you're inside the city so we can ensure not to skip over you with the groupings. An event shell will be utilized for the duration of the event. It will be used ICly for an announcement/PA system, though OOC talk is fine on it (just keep it all in parenthesis and to a minimum please). The shell will be discarded after the event concludes. If unable to take the extra shell due to being 8/8 linkshells, please make me aware of this immediately. Disband all parties. You will be grouped up semi-randomly (if you come with a date, you will still be grouped with him/her, make sure we're made aware of it via /tell). Entry fee is completely IC and not actually required OOC. Masks are not mandatory either, though it can make things interesting ICly if people don't know who you are! Event Flow! At the start of the event, attendees will be ushered to a central location. After the hostess says some words, the group will be divided into smaller groups of 3-5 people and each group will be escorted to a "table." Should one come with a date, the couple will be seated together. Do not come with a pre-created party to be seated together though, as that greatly undermines the purpose of the event. Each table will be partied up with the other table mates somewhat randomly and are asked to keep their IC chatter (save publicly viewable emotes) to party chat so everyone can follow things easier and have more intimate RP with a small number of people. Tables will be served food and drink and have time to socialize with others at their table for the first portion of the event. The event will then segway into a dancing contest. Those who wish to participate will be randomly teamed up with a partner of the opposite gender. This will quickly turn into a "roulette" type of game where partners switch with one another at the start of each song. A panel of judges, randomly selected from the audience prior to the dancing, will decide the best couple. During this contest, it is heavily encouraged to keep IC chat one-on-one with your partner at that time (/tell). This is, once again, to keep the flooding chat box somewhat under control. Following this, the dance floor will open to all who wish to use it. The event itself will also open up and become less controlled, allowing free movement to/from tables and chatter in /say until the party dies down to its natural end. Seeking! --Someone to help live stream the music. Most music will be pre-selected, though there may be room for the streamer to select their own as well. --IC guards/mercenaries (guards will still be seated at tables and be able to socialize, but will have more free roaming powers and will also be asked to help moderate the event) --Performers. If you wish to perform a song live ICly, let me know well in advance.
8. It's that time of year again~ The RPC renewal fees through our host are about to be due again. I've already paid some of it down myself (the domain name portion), but the RPC largely depends on its membership to sustain it. If you wish to donate to the annual renewal of the site, please submit donations via PayPal to [email protected]. Total balance due: $98.40 Remaining due: $0.00 At present, we are 100% toward our goal. Goal met in only 24 hours! New record! Thanks to those who contributed!
9. I'll be using this thread to announce the artist of the month each month in case everyone doesn't regularly check the front page. February: Deirdre March: Mtoto April: Abaigeal May: Gerik Be sure to check out each new article here: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=artist_of_the_month
10. Welcome~ Regarding the wiki, please see this post and #3.
11. In the control panel up in the header, click your username. In the drop down menu, there are two options: "View Today's Posts" and "View New Posts." ^^
12. Hm, that's odd. I'm not really sure what to make of it. I tested your link on a different forum software and it worked fine. I've also sent in a quick request about this to the MyBB team. They seem to have no problems with their script. For example, one of their admins uses this: http://www.mybbsecurity.net/avatar.php?dateline=1360268291 Even after adding the dateline into the equation, the above link still works in randomizing the avatar. Can you maybe copy/paste the script you're using to generate the avatars? Also, make sure that /all/ the avatars that your script utilizes are 110x110 (or lower), including that "image not found" one. The auto-resize feature could break the script on these forums. We encountered a similar problem with animated avatars.
13. For the record, I have (ICly AND OOCly) changed my character's name. As said before, you're kind of ICly locked in once you start interacting with characters. But there are ways to go about changes to your name ICly. Kylin was originally called "Castiel." Due to various reasons, I decided to change it to Kylin. ICly, I went about this by having him find his deceased mother's diary and finding out that "Kylin" was the name she wanted to go with when he was born. Around this time, Kylin was at odds with his father as well. As another act of rebellion against his father, he thus had the name changed from Castiel to Kylin. He's the exact same character and can still ICly be called "Castiel," but by now most of the people I have ICly interacted with know that his name has changed and call him as such. In your case, a simple retcon would actually suffice since you haven't actually interacted with others ICly yet (assuming you haven't of course ).
14. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=linkshell_contest Grats to the winner~ Also, linkshell section unlocked for real RP shells now. Edit: The contest linkshells have been temporarily archived just in case the authors want the content back for whatever reason. Just send me a PM for it.
15. Less than 24 hours remain~. Get your votes in now. There are currently two linkshells battling it out for the winner but it's still anyone's victory!
16. Setting the Board The following events take place just before present day events in A Realm Reborn. “I’ll be home shortly my darling,” Cartius said lovingly into the linkpearl. The room around him was dimly lit. The Felstar patriarch’s expensive crimson robes matched his magnificent ruby ring. “You know how these silly meetings are. Everyone wants their exhibit front and center in the museum. Yes, yes. I love you too, Nefron. See you soon, my love.” Cartius smiled faintly as he tucked the pearl away and turned around to meet the gaze of a gagged hyur midlander who was strapped to a wooden chair. The prisoner’s face had seen better days no doubt, blood trickling down his forehead, bruises on his cheeks and eyes, his clothes filthy, and non-fatal cuts all over his body. His auburn hair was a disheveled mess. A masked miqo’te, Vertigo, stood behind him. Her white hair was tied up neatly in a ponytail and her dark leather outfit blended almost too perfectly with the room, a sharp contrast to Cartius’s more regal attire. Cartius strode calmly toward the man as Vertigo removed the gag from the prisoner’s mouth. The trapped man was trembling faintly, though was clearly trying desperately to hold his ground as a look of loathing emanated from his eyes. He spoke with contention in his voice. “You monster. You’ll never get your hands on it. So just give it up while you’re still ahead.” Cartius smiled confidently as he placed a strong hand on the prisoner’s shoulder, causing the man to flinch slightly. “Never is a very long time. And there’s always one birdy out there who just can’t resist chirping. I wonder who amongst your family is the chirper…” The prisoner’s eyes widened in horror. “Stay away from my family, you son of a bitch! I’m the only one who knows where it is. They know nothing. I swear if you even try…” “You are hardly in a position to make threats,” Cartius said with a smug smile on his face. “Your determination to keep me from what’s mine is admirable though. I suppose it’s pointless to continue this if you’re adamant in taking this to your grave. So I bid you farewell.” Cartius turned and walked toward the dark room’s entrance, exiting without another word. The imprisoned man began to tremble again as he heard Vertigo move behind him. Then everything went dark. Elza smiled warmly as she handed the folder to the elezen woman standing in the Gridanian doorway. “So as soon as the permission slips are signed by the orphanage, we should be able to set a date for the field trip. I’ve listed a few dates in there as suggestions as to what will work best for the museum.” The elezen woman took the folder with a smile, glancing at the files within briefly before tucking the file beneath her arm. She then tucked a strand of her short red hair behind her ear before speaking. “Thank you so much, Elza. I can’t tell you how much the orphanage appreciates your attention. Please pass my thanks to all those in Sanctum who helped with this.” “It’s our pleasure,” Elza said softly with a gentle look in her eyes. “House Felstar believes very strongly in equal education opportunities for all children. That includes those who continue to have to deal with the unfortunate fallout years ago.” A linkpearl strapped to Elza’s leather belt began to glow faintly. The Sanctum leader frowned slightly. “I’m sorry to cut our visit so short. I have to take this.” “Of course,” the elezen woman replied. “I’m sure your work is never done. Thank you again and we’ll see you soon hopefully!” Elza smiled and waved into the room behind the elezen, where several eager children waved back. “See you all in a couple weeks at the field trip!” “Bye Miss Elza!” The children shouted in partial unison as the smiling elezen slowly shut the door behind her. Elza turned and began to walk down the Gridanian pathway with a happy smile on her face as she took the linkpearl from her belt strap. “Yes?” “Everything is set to go at the Bannock,” the male voice responded. “All we gotta do now is time it just right.” “Wonderful,” Elza stated softly as she continued walking down the path toward her cabin in an almost seductive stride. The hyur reached into a small pouch attached to her belt and withdrew a single chess piece, the black queen. “The Twin Adders won’t know what hit them.” Kylin crossed his arms as the museum curator continued to ramble endlessly. The exhibit hall was empty, save the two hyurs. Kylin wore an elegant longcoat with matching high rise boots and leather gauntlets. The coat itself was tight enough from the waist up to show his more masculine figure. His short platinum blond hair remained down, bangs covering most of his forehead. The young hyur man, clearly tired of hearing the old man talk endlessly, finally held up a single hand to silence him. “Let’s just move the exhibit to the Oracle’s Chamber in the west wing,” Kylin stated matter-of-factly. “Its current location is out of the way for that part of the tour anyway.” “I suppose we could do that,” the old curator said softly. “But the Oracle’s Chamber was originally reserved for the Astronomy Exhibit.” “Ah yes, I had forgotten about that. Is there a reason we still haven’t got that exhibit up for presentation?” The curator nodded and sighed deeply. “A key centerpiece of the exhibit was Ekdinah Mavanix’s prophetic orb. The lady had actually intended to donate it to the exhibit years ago prior to her unfortunate demise over five years ago.” Kylin raised an eyebrow, seemingly caught off guard by the mentioning of Ekidnah’s name. “Ah yes, I recall that day quite clearly. She had the artifact with her at the time of her demise. I’d bet one of those rogue mercenaries took it like the vultures they are. Keep the exhibit on the back burner. I’ll find the artifact and return it to our hands, one way or another.” The curator bowed before exiting the empty museum chamber. Kylin stared at the single piece of painted art on the wall before him, though it was debatable whether his mind was on the exquisite painting of a draconic creature emerging from Dalamud or on something else entirely. After a long moment of silence, a voice from a linkpearl attached to his belt could be heard. The hyur unbuckled the pearl and put it to his ear. He smiled faintly to himself. “Ah, finally. Actual meaningful progress with the excavation. Yes, I’ll be at the ruins shortly. Tell the miners to halt further work until I arrive.”
17. It's time~ Place your vote for your favorite linkshell for the contest. Feel free to also add commentary here for each one if you want to (so long as it's not insulting and whatnot). Winner will get a drawing of their character by one of our many renowned artists around these parts, Mtoto! Some criteria you may want to factor in with your decision could include the following: Creativity Potential longevity Level of detail Organization Inter-shell relationship potential Lore compatibility Likelihood of your character joining Poll will remain open for 48 hours. To see the full contest details, you may check it via our main page or via this direct link. After the contest has concluded, all entries will be deleted. Ship's Junk

Damn you, Shippuu. Now I'm constantly hypnotized by Kerr's avatar :dodgy:
19. There was no reason to send it via PM. It was intended advice for everyone to see, not directly aimed at you ^^. Not really a derailment either, as you mentioned in your OP that you were RPing with him "right off the bat" and that your characters had a history. So it was only logical to imply the possibility that it was a romantic history. I apologize if that's not the case though. And while I personally, like you, find it odd for a miqo'te and lalafell to RP something like that, I have seen it done before so it wouldn't have surprised me . But it seems that's not the case anyway, so I again apologize for inferring that from your earlier words.
20. I can't give you any advice on monk related stuff. So instead I'll give you some advice on another, perhaps unexpected, facet that came up in your post: RPing with a significant other. I've seen a lot of RP between couples over the years, and there are some things such couples should be made aware of. It can certainly be a very rewarding experience to RP with your boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife. But it can also be very damaging if you're not careful. For starters, you run the risk of isolating yourselves from others. This doesn't happen intentionally obviously. But it's the number one problem I tend to see with real life couples who RP a relationship between their characters. The reason this happens? Because outsiders looking in become increasingly intimidated to approach either of the two players or characters. They know that they're not just approaching or coordinating anything with one person, but instead TWO. That's double the amount of effort and stress and can be a huge turn-off for the outsider. They often deem it not worth the effort and headache and target their RP toward someone who's more approachable. The other big issue is the risk of crossing IC with OOC. I'll use myself as an example. In another MMO, my character (let's call him Kylin for easy reference even though that wasn't his name ) developed feelings for another character. This other character was ICly in a romantic relationship with her OOC romantic partner. Anyway, Kylin had feelings for her that were 100% IC onry. When I started to RP this more publicly in hopes for some interesting dynamic interactions, the couple started to mix OOC and IC. The girl's real life/IC boyfriend got really defensive and jealous OOCly. Long story short, the interactions were disastrous and I was more or less told (OOCly) that I had to stop ICly pursuing Kylin's feelings. This left a very bitter taste in my mouth seeing as I was 100% IC and had no OOC feelings toward this person. I was merely RPing, but the couple (because they were a real life couple) were incapable of handling this type of RP situation. Obviously this may not be a problem with all RL couples. But it's something to be aware of. Somewhere along the line, someone may ICly fall for your character regardless of your IC relationship status. So make sure the IC and OOC remain separated at all times if/when this happens. I'm not telling you it's a bad idea to RP a relationship with your significant other. I'm just asking you to be aware of the position it puts you in and how less approachable it may make both of you in the RP world. So just be aware of that. You may have take the initiative in reaching out to other RPers to avoid that kind of isolation rather than hoping people come to you for the RP.
21. Whoo~ Awesome work, as always
22. Just updated the editor to the latest version to hopefully fix a couple things. You all may need to reselect your desired mode if you changed it to source mode to be default. And apparently, I can't change the default to source mode. That's a user-end thing only at this time :dodgy:
23. I think I may just consider changing the default editor to source mode. Seems to be a lot of issues with the wysiwyg mode. I'm sure people are used to seeing the BBCodes anyway. Ellie actually suggested having default set to source mode before launch and I should have listened
24. That's new, although there's a lot of unseen code in Microsoft Word. It's actually why some editors have a "special paste" function for just Word. I'd suggest only pasting Word stuff into the editor when it's in Source mode. You can either change your default to Source mode in your Edit Options, or you can just keep it as is and be sure to click the source icon in the second row of icons BEFORE you paste anything over. That may solve the problem. Don't ever try to copy content from a Word file while the editor is in the 'wysiwyg' (what you see is what you get) mode.
25. Welcome to both of you! For an idea of the RP events we're likely to see again, you may want to browse the Bulletin Board section. All of the public RP events from 1.0 are still there. A lot of public RP events are fairly light-hearted since it's tough to do the major drama kind of stuff with big crowds. We've had fashion shows, tavern gatherings, various other contests, story-telling events, and more. The darker themed and confrontational RP events are easier done within individual RP shells, but we've managed to have a number of successful public events that match those criteria! The last event, "Full Cold Moon/Dalamud's Wrath" was a prime example of a happy event turning into a very grisly and dramatic one. The public House Mavanix storyline was also much darker themed. There were other darker themed events, including dealing with someone murdering ladies at the Mineral Concern tavern, mercenary missions, and I think a few more.
