  1. I tend to walk right up and stick my nose in if I was ICly in the area. I tend not to shift IC/OOC states for something l like this. Just understand that people may ICly tell you to buzz off if they don't want you jumping into it, or being slightly hostile if it's something they wanted kept secret. If people really don't want folks eavesdropping they tend to take it to party chat or private rooms in housing areas, at least from my experience. Emoting first to let them know they've caught your attention might be a good way to let them know it's coming, and give folks time to spread slow their conversation a bit to give you a chance to jump in, or to silence themselves if they don't want someone overhearing / noticing.
  2. "In a world gone mad with Aether and Primals. One man struggles to ensure the Starlight deliveries keep arriving on time. Erah'sae Zhwan is The Postman" *thwip* "Message for you, sir!"
  3. I have to echo Nefzen on this one Martiallais. Sometimes with everyone trying to make their characters notable or important. Edgy, special, not boring, etc. It makes the simple characters the most interesting (and often rare). These characters tend to stand on their own merit, not the merit of what happened before. In the old days of "that other mmo" one of the most interesting characters I had ever run across was a young lady who was 'technically' a rogue by class, but really was just this average everyday woman trying to cope with all the other insanity swirling about the game world around her. That lowborn knight, or even knight errant, I think would do well in a world full of dragons, primal gods, and people who shape aether like some do clay. Hell, I'm playing a courier. It's working out well for myself so far, perhaps we'll cross paths.
  4. I get like that too at times. That "damn, I'll be interrupting" feeling. Some days, I just say screw it and stick my nose right in the middle of their crew.
  5. My biggest uncertainty and insecurity would have to be worrying about stepping on people's OOC boundaries. I tend to create character with the idea of creating a person with a fresh persona and have them react to stimulus in game as a real person would. That means I've a tendancy to react without thought of how it impacts others. I used to simply not care, because IC was IC, and that was that. However for some reason these days I worry a lot. It may be because I've had to mediate too many situations where IC and OOC have spilled over through the years. It's odd, because the OOC discussing over things that may cross boundaries to feel out where someone wants to go with a scene feels a bit like attempting to pre-determine / force an outcome. You know.. metagaming the situation. I'm not talking even things like ERP, dark RP, or injuring someone else's character. But it's simple things like putting someone on the spot or into a situation that forces them out of their normal RP style and the like. It's kind of odd, because there's very little RP wise that crossed my boundaries that I can't just fade a scene to black.

    Hello!

Welcome to the server! As far as good lore resources goes there is the RP Discussion area here where most any question seems to be able to find an answer (or might already have) There is also the official Lore forum at http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/forums/491-Lore If you see me or any of the Zhwan siblings about, we're usually in character doing whatever. Feel free to poke at us.
  7. 2015 was a bit of a mixed bag for me. I got Homeworld's remastered edition. The single player was great, the multiplayer port... well... I never really got it to work right. My sense of Nostalgia was pleased. Elite Dangerous has continued to please. For all the games that say "This game looks awesome" I think the best thing I can say about Elite, is it sounds amazing. The audio really cinches the immersion. So many little nuances from the stressing of the hull when you try and flip the ships about to the pleasant k-thunk of the ship being released from the landing pad. As someone who played the old wireframe version of the game in ages past, this has amazed me on a fundamental level. EvE Online is a constant bit of background gaming. I mostly just log in for my radio shows these days. And, well, I was also directed to FFXIV this year. It may or may not have sucked all my other available gaming time away.
  8. While not the same sort of relationship implied... Nefzen found this to describe the current relationship status of the Zhwan siblings: Sana, Erah'sae and Nefzen (in order of appearance from left to right) http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/angeliclayer/images/0/0d/8f51286c29d8911842a3814c7d270d86.jpg[/img] (Image shamelessly swiped from Angelic Layer's Wiki)
  9. I think you've got to wait for the initial trial days to expire. I'd say instead of stopping at the "Close to Home" quest, go ahead and push to about level 15 so you can unlock the airships. That will give you more freedom to actually meet people in other areas. A good bit of roleplay also goes on in the housing districts so getting those unlocked as well won't hurt in the slightest. I had a few friends that also ran into this when starting from a trial account.
  10. Given some of the above there is another angle you could approach this with. I haven't seen much with astrologian that involves them actually throwing the cards so you have a lot of wiggle room for the mechanics here. It could be conjuration on a subconscious level. Yes, the character has an astro globe and may even believe that they're using astrologian's unaspected magic. Drawing on surrounding aether to make the elemental ice around the thrown projectile of the card. This could leave you some hooks later for having the character explore conjuration as well. We're not fixed to a single talent pool mechanically in the game.
  11. Somehow I had missed those short stories in my web searching. I'm reading them now. (here goes my lunch break.) Thanks for the information! I hadn't done the binding coils yet and had only seen the cut-scenes from the first set.
  12. his came up while discussing some backstory issues our little Keeper family... How much about the Battle of Carteneau, Louisoix, and Bahamut is common knowledge? Everyone pretty much knows about the Dalamud and Bahamut coming out of it, but what of the details? Is Bahamut generally believed by the populous to be dead / defeated? Anything about the 'Flames of Truth' video as well? How common (if at all) would knowledge of the Coils of Bahamut raid's story be at this point as well?
  13. I've always viewed post launch role-play timelines in more a 'real time' method than story timelines the developers throw at us. They're often rather vague, unclear, and jump ahead or back as they feel fits from an outside perspective looking in. I don't even want to talk about the changes in timelines for some previous games, I've RP'd with. However, we don't stop. We don't pause or jump ahead. Our characters interact on a day to day basis as if days have passed. To keep continuity for roleplay purposes, I tend to just take launch day (which we know for 2.0 was year 5?) and add real-time from there. It's the only way I can really keep track of the passing of time impacts things I roleplay with.
  14. Just face it Sana. All of this is your fault. Everything. How did all of this start again? Sana: You know I've been getting the roleplay itch again.
  15. Was (or rather Nefzen was when she inquired for me) instructed to have me add myself to said waiting list in game. Consider me added. Erah'sae Zhwan in game if anything opens up. Thanks. (Edited for clarity)
  16. This made for a rather interesting first event. I got to make a few contacts and generally had a good time of it. Maybe next time I'll pull a story or two out. The stories and songs were great, and it was quite smoothly run. I hope to see you all about. http://images.cybersomnia.com/ffxiv/firstsnow_groundfloor.png[/img] (click for a full sized version)
  17. I played heavily on Brynsaar, Aerth, and Amia over the years. I have dabbled in a few others, but those three were where I spent the large majority of my time.
  18. Well it appears through the wonders of paid services, I have managed to create my little Miqo'te. I've been having the itch that only role-play can scratch, so here I am. And the QA from the template: MMORPG background Ye gods... I shall just stick to ones I have role-played in or we shall be here all week. Asheron's Call DAoC NWN (via persistent worlds) WoW EvE Online Aion GW2 Wildstar RP experience I have been around the block a few times when it comes to role-playing. While I cut my teeth in table top, I rarely get to play anymore. From there to LARPs and to MMOs. Asheron's Call was what hooked me on role-play within online games and it has set the tone for my role-play in MMO's since. I often prefer to play supporting characters, I've no real need for the spotlight or to be the center of some grand plot-line. My goal is to create as real of a character as possible. The character should be something to add to the living breathing world that our stories reside within. Character ideas/info Erah'sae is the last borne of his family of four brothers and two sisters. This position of 'last son' equates to the least son in the eyes of his parents. Through his life, there was only one expectation, more a demand, that he protect his sisters as his lowly birth rank was worthy of little else. Recently his eldest sister has made her way to Ul'dah to study Thaumaturgy. Erah'sae was sent to keep an eye on her. For the first time, however, he is out from under the direct thumb of his kin. Perhaps he will prove his worth, not only to his family, but to himself. Erah'sae has enrolled with the Gladiators in Ul'dah, taking up shield and blade to better protect his family and others. His training thus far has not been much more than what part of the blade goes into the other person. He also knows little of the world and it's history beyond his home, which gives ample opportunity to learn from others along the way. Where his story goes from here, I really have no idea. What happens will happen. How did you learn about the coalition? The great oracle of go'o'gle was consulted and was not found wanting! Apparently I had stumbled across this place years ago when I first looked at FFXIV but as I never actually bought the game back then, the account has stayed dormant until this post. What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? I am hoping to fall into the "Medium to Heavy" category. While I am no stranger to heavy story, real life is what it is at times. Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc) I'll mostly be available on week nights and some weekends. I have a full time job as a software engineer and am a father that will keep me busy during most days and often during the weekends. I'm also a DJ for an EvE Online related radio which keeps my attentions tied up on Thursday nights. My recent practice as a fractal designer/artist is also starting to take off and is slowly consuming more and more of my time. I'm not really complaining though, even if it is a bit unexpected. I hope to cross paths with you all in game.
