  1. *A'kos looks at the flyer, eyes dropping to the auction list.* Hm, may be a bene business op'rtunity... *signs up, writting down some mechanical skills available... then after a bashful look around, puts down date too* ((Looks fun! ))
  2. Where would you find the vendor? I must be missing them in the throng.
  3. Sounds like a good deal should I pm you the info or just post a pic here?
  4. All of this. ^^^ Some of the Nin animations are in fact "I jam this blade into you, then I jam this blade into you. Deal." Also, I don't see many mundane/real world knife fighting moves being very effective on a great majority of the creatures in Eorzea.
  5. I've been on the fence on whether or not A'kos has the echo or not. How does it get worked into RP? I'm not even sure I understand how the vision thing happens since it just shows up when the plot says to. Does someone need a connection to the person they're getting a vision from? But then the MSQ character just needs to be in proximity to Hraesvalgr (no idea if I spelled that right) for it to happen according to one. The languages part is pretty easy to rp, but even after finishing Heavensward I'm not sure I understand what else it's capable of besides an Ascian Captain Planet. Is the Echo also the blessing of Hydaelyn? As far as being the/a warrior of light. If it came up to my main, he'd say he believes that's anyone who fights for the sake of the world, literally, Hydaelyn.
  6. Inspired by the character theme song threads I started wondering about what sort of music exists in this world. The only music I've come across since returning to Eorzea that I'd consider cannon is the little bits played by the Bard class. Sometimes I go with the OST of the game itself, but there's an eclectic mix of it in FFXIV that I'm not sure if that would be the way to go, no matter how much of it I enjoy (I like eclectic) Is there lore of it somewhere I haven't seen? Music means so much to many people and can shape lives that, without it, may turn out very differently, whether one composes or just listens. It feels strange to have very little idea of what's out there, and much to limiting to stick to the medieval/Renaissance of standard fantasy fare. I also started a thread for your character's favorite music, regardless of what world they're in over here.
  7. Inspired by the character theme song threads, I started wondering about music in general within the world our characters live in. This thread isn't really about that, as what music you think exists within the realm will be it's own thread (here). No no, this for fun So the question is, given an mp3 player and the ability to download any and all the music out there, what would be your character's favorite genre, band, whatever? Does your brawny Warrior have a perchant for show tunes? Is your pure hearted White Mage into death metal? Maybe your Dark Knight has a thing for Disney? I won't judge, maybe a little. Just to be clear, it can be music that we know is already apart of the world, if we know any that is for sure apart of it. So to kick things off I'll go first, A'kos would probably go for fast paced music, something he could dance or fight to. If it's upbeat, groovy, if its got a positive theme better still. He wouldn't have to know the language to enjoy it, and I think a few songs by Katy Perry would be guilty pleasures he'd never admit to.
  8. A little A'kos by candlelight mayhap?
  9. Thought this would be hard, turns out, I just hadn't heard the right music in awhile. [video=youtube] Akos would be a dancing to this.
  10. Here's to not looking a hot mess  One of my favorites for something upscale is the inn at Fallgourd Float. It's just a classy but cozy place. I'd also like to know of other places. I've seen areas, but they're usually empty and I can't remember their names if they had any.
  11. If it applies to those outside of Lominsans, I think is determined from Rogue to Rogue, but I don't think it matters if you're from elsewhere, if you break the code within the city state, then watch out. It's something they take very seriously, though also what Aya said. They're kind of like the secret service of Limsa Lominsa. It's also three points of the rules A'kos lives by, no matter where he is.
  12. Can't really say since I'm only into women, but if there was anyone, it would probably be Aymeric, dude is hot. Straight or no I never had a problem saying a guy looked attractive or not. Men should appreciate each other more I feel, but that's off topic. Special mention goes toHaurchefant,
  13. I was looking forward to the yukatas since I didn't have a chance for them but these pics are kind of dissapointing. Like several posters above, I'm not into the shirts, but I do like the shorts.
  14. Probably his courier jobs or sleeping. Or any of the things that would happen off screen that I wouldn't normally rp, such as the bathroom and hygiene. Maintenance things for his armor, weapons and mechanical contraptions. Seeing what's up at Maelstrom command. A lot of it is just those things we have to do ooc in an mmo (like inventory organization) that I figure would happen before an expedition.
  15. A'kos has a few actually A somewhat tweaked mammet he thinks has fallen on its head a few to many times, but it handles simple logistical things for him. The other is his chocobo Lazlo, though he sees it as more of a companion and friend then a pet, part of the reason he wants a house is to get a personal stable for Laz so he's not left in strange and questionable stables across Eorzea. The last I'm not sure if I'll do something IC yet. I love the midgardsomr pet, especially how it'll just sit on your shoulder after awhile. I have an idea for him finding it as a hatchling, but I want to give it more thought. I would like a bit too, for more mechanical goodies, but I haven't found one yet.
  16. A'kos would be the emotion fueled sort of Dark Knight if I take him in that direction ic. It's just so ingrained in his nature to be that rogue/ninja/dervish type of fighter that it would be a drastic leap to become a DRK, so I may just do it ooc. I've only done the first quest so far but it was pretty amazing how well it fit him personality wise. We'll see, I admit that I see the Dark Knights less like hate fueled Sith Lords just out for their own ends, and more like Batman started his own order of knights and gave them greatswords and dark powers. Maybe Batman and Spawn had kids... ...there were those crossovers >_>
  17. You could make it a process too. Say in the early stages of being a rogue, hiding is mostly about using cover, stepping carefully, blending and all that. Then as your character develops they start incorporating more tricks into it, and as they become a ninja that uses aether, it would be logical to incorporate some of that into your characters skill set. For example, my character is primarily a ninja in terms of skills and training. Ninjutsu as we have it in game revolves around using the natural elements of air, earth, fire, water, ice and lightning. I played things like I described above, and now as he's mastering more and more of the skills he's used throughout life, he may for example use Air to mask any sounds he might make or Earth to soften the ground and/or hide his footsteps. He still needs to be careful and use his natural skill at moving, but he adds more and more to his repertoire as he develops and learns.
  18. He's literally not saying it doesn't exist, though. He's just explaining his perspective and experiences as they relate to this sort of RP. He even said "from my point of view". That's not arguing. He's just saying they're lightly touched upon, relatively, compared to other themes- and I'm sure it seems especially so relative to his own life. (And argue about the IC/OOC separation stuff all you want, but there's a real human behind every RP character and their lives do effect their RP, even if the degree of it varies from person to person.) If you'd never played lancer you wouldn't be exposed to that plotline, for example. There's lots of ways you could miss it, the game honestly does gloss over it most of the time. It's mentioned, it exists, but it's not in your face or directed towards you most of the time. edit: Sorry to come off like the tone police, I just feel like this thread (not you specifically) is coming off as overly argumentative, bordering on being a little hostile, on this particularly sensitive subject. Thank you for your understanding I don't know how much more clear I could make it. Others playing it up is cool with me, I don't think the player is any less of a person or anything because the character is racist. Taking ERP as an example, some people hate it and want nothing to do with it, some people think it's great and embrace it (I spent two hours reading and and going through links of a courtesan guide today, I have to say a great thank you for posting that, if the poster happens to read this). Is either of them wrong or less of a player for their stance? Does that mean they're somehow less of an rp'er if they do or do not participate in erotic themes? I find the insinuation that I only like happy go lucky rp with where everything is great is insulting and honestly just stupid. Especially if someone hasn't rp'd with me. There's so much more to focus on if a focus is needed, and many other angles. If I don't like torture scenes rp'd in exacting detail, I then only want to play happy light stuff? That's ridiculous, but hey, torture happens in game world probably every time someone is 'questioned' off screen. I'm not even saying it's not there, but having lived it, and living with it, I look at its depiction in game and see it as lightly done, this game isn't setting out to be super gritty and dark, even when it brings up a dark plot point or has a harsh moment. If anyone needs another example, I could watch a movie based around the Vietnam war with my father, a veteran of that war. What I see might be greatly disturbing, what he could see is how much lighter the movie makes events out to be, and how it glosses over some aspects that to this day haunt him. This is just a fact of story telling and the audience. Not all aspects are going to affect everyone in the same way. What one person sees as deep and poignant, another will look at it as fluff for any number of reasons. I don't make racist characters, or join in on that aspect, but I'm still down for other dark and gritty things. Out of character however, I absolutely want to keep things happy go lucky between players, I make no apologies for that. Because despite what some people think, there's a person on the other side of that screen typing, playing and interacting with us. Just because we're using electronic devices, doesn't mean it's not human interaction.
  19. I'm confused..so you're saying that to separate reality from fiction, we should ignore the setting and everyone should be happy with everyone else, even though there are clear racial tensions written into the setting and lore? :? I didn't read the entire thread, I forgot to refresh the page from when it was much shorter, so I was referring to this post: It may just be me, but I find that these type of posts indicate what I was pointing out before; the good old IC is not OOC confusion. I ask you, if you do not feel comfortable with these themes in the setting, why does one roleplay in FFXIV and not jump to another game, setting or anything, where these topics do not come up? It just seems strange to me to stay willingly in a setting if you can not set apart IC and OOC if these topics get onto your nerves. I'm one of those people Tortles mentions who has to deal with racism day to day. So what I mean is, if we're going with IC not being OOC, then for me, it's not rping racism. My ooc has all that, so if I'm going to keep ic separate and not bring the ooc drama in game, I have to keep the racism out of it. I could play an extremely racist character drawing on my experiences, or someone who is extremely militant against such things from the same. It would have been clearer if I had thought to quote the post or noticed there was more to read. Now, I never said what anyone else should rp by any means. I just can't do it myself. I can't read threads like the favorite racial slurs because even knowing it's all in good fun and no one is really that hateful that it's just pretend, my life experiences remind me of what I've gone through, the name calling, the spitting, the physical violence. The setting from my point of view has very little racial tension or actual racism in it. It's implied that it's there, but it isn't a strong part of most of the world. Gridania is xenophobic, Ul'dah is socioeconomic, Ishgard is class and religion based, but racial issues are pretty light, so I don't feel it's something I have to worry about rping. Honestly most of the tension seems to come from what city state you're aligned to, or in Ishguard's case your class and if you're considered a heretic or not. If someone directs it at me, I'll probably ignore it, if they're insistent I'll send a tell saying, respectfully, that it's not a theme I'm comfortable with rping because of personal real life issues. Not really different from someone who doesn't like sexual scenes or certain grimdark things. I don't need that all to familiar negativity in my fun time, and I certainty don't need to take anyone to task for it in their fun time, and I aim to maintain that line between ooc and ic. For those who enjoy that and want to rp that, I have no problems with that going on. Rock on and go for it, to say it's not there is wrong. But from my perspective it's honestly kind of laid back in that regard, and there's plenty more to deal with in terms of inter personal conflict such as nationality.
  20. Meh, being of mixed race and growing up near hated to the point of violence in real life, I can do without it in a game. For me, separating reality from fiction would be the opposite of what's being proposed here, accepting other races and those of mixed heritage. Anyway, saying to stick to ones own race for mating purposes is not the same as not accepting other kinds of relationships with someone from another race.
  21. A'kos: "Sooo, wanna get married?" Me: "We're straight dude. Lost a bet huh?" A'kos: "Yeaaaah...." Me: "Now if that retainer is single..." A'kos: "Wait what?" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Argent Sun: "mutter muttermuttermutter." Me: "huh? Didn't catch that." Argent: "I said...muttermuttermutter mutter." Me: "Hell yes." Argent: "...":dodgy: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rakesha: "Yo, we're getting hitched, in three hours, lets go." Me: "...seriously?" after shock wares off, "Can we have a honeymoon first?" Rakesha: "....fuck yeah."
  22. Now with 100% more Ishgard! Just hit Heavensward, so I have access. I'd be down for some house rp and being caught in the middle of said houses
