  2. Welcome~ The first post is always the scariest, and you're past that now.

    Hiya!

Welcome! RPing takes practice! The more you do it, the more comfortable you will get in your character's skin. Sometimes just diving right in at an event or a gathering you stumble upon is the best way to get your feet wet, sometimes watching for awhile and easing your way into things works better. The moment will present itself, and you'll be a pro in no time. If you have any questions about how RP looks on XIV, Balmung in particular (the various styles you'll encounter, etc), check out the RP handbook or just shoot me a PM!
  4. I don't think the Gilgamesh server is a clique. A fair amount of members on this site feel strongly enough about the issue to want another server choice. The various threads about it are proof of that. Rock was just vocal and proactive about it. Some RPC members decide that they don't want to join an existing community, but start their own group, due to various reasons (economy, levels, achievements, fresh-start, etc). That is a clique. Here's a better definition: a narrow exclusive circle or group of persons; especially : one held together by common interests, views, or purposes. It is a clique. As RPers, we exist in a clique already in the larger XIV community. Clique-ception (stolen from Shippuu). My point is, as was in my original post, that they are everywhere. The least we can do is acknowledge it and not be hypocrites.
  5. No worries. A clique is defined as "a small exclusive group of friends or associates."
  6. Honestly I think some legitimate questioning is going on at the moment. I for one was appalled Rock's statements, and had to clarify what he meant, to ensure I was not misinterpreting them. I also can't help but find it amusing how against cliques he is, yet he was the lead-runner of the biggest clique thus far in this community: the splitting off to Gilgamesh. I know this thread will be locked, but I had to say that.
  7. Who are you to stop them..?? You won't stand for it.. what will you do? Oust them from Gilgamesh? It's not your server.. o_O I can't believe you're saying what I think you're saying..
  8. Cheers! Summed up my thoughts more eloquently than I could. >>; Balmung can be intimidating, but at the same time, the 'old-timers' from 1.0 are already likely outnumbered by the amount of new RPers (and non-RPers, so 1-10 won't be that lonely, that's for sure..) joining us there. Cliques are going to exist anywhere you go, and are likely already forming within the Gilgamesh community as well. You just have to take that step, and trust that you will be welcomed--which will be the case on either server. In the end it's your choice. "Cliques are going to exist anywhere you go, and are likely already forming within the Gilgamesh community as well." Nope Now I can't speak for whatever groups are organizing outside of the rpc, but as far as here. I don't -do- clique rp. Never have never will. Ran a tavern in GW2 had days where we welcomed new roleplayers to come join us for their first rp experience. Place was called The Golden Sun. My team then knew that clique rp was not allowed and it was the reason why we did that tavern running rp in the first place. So while I am saying its not impossible, I am definitely saying that I won't stand for it at all and show you the door if you are involved with what me and others are doing to facilitate a non elitist environment on Gilgamesh. We don't need cliquey rpers and don't want them - at all. They are bad for the community as a whole and if I am biased towards anything its concerning them and their ilk. You are a cliquey roleplayer? well then go away. Don't let the door hit you where the good lord....yeah *Puts on his Edna Mode voice* No Cliques! Just because you don't do clique RP doesn't mean they aren't forming. You can't and don't control the entirety of Gilgamesh's RPers, and it's foolish to think you can speak for them all as well. It is natural for those of similar interests and styles to gather and RP together, and it will happen wherever you go.

  10. That's why RP is more than just being a writer to me. Characters with simplistic backstories often are the most interesting to interact with, because they are dynamic and real feeling, whereas elaborate backstories mean a lot of character development is already DONE and the RP will never live up to the experiences in the backstory. Lore is gud. We don't have much lore and are for the most part very loyal to what we DO have, and it hasn't stopped us from creating awesome characters thus far!
  11. Glad to have you both! Welcome!
  12. YALL READY FOR THIS?! ...Yea okay not much has changed. She's still the same Aysun I made in open beta 1.0. But I love her so.. iz all good.
  13. Dude. Felix? That is an awesome name. I'm not sure how well any of it follows Hyur naming conventions, but both names seem plenty Hyurish to me! 10/10 A'eyshn Demiir, my Seeker of the Sun Miqo'te. She was originally just "Aysun," but about a month after launch I began to notice all the Seekers had apostrophes in their names, so I made up a Seekerish name for her, and made it hard to pronounce correctly, thus she goes by Aysun. This seems to be a common thing for Miqo'te these days, but back then no one else did it at least.. ^^ Aysun is actually a Turkish name, as is Demir, if you're wondering where I yoinked that from. I think your first name fits a Seeker, would I be correct in thinking it was Eh-shun in pronunciation? Demiir seems a bit odd for the catfolk (or is the dual ii drawn out Deh-mi-ir? as in "mi" from mirror but more drawn?) so over all 7~? it was my understanding that they largely used "raspier" sounds. Nope! That's why she goes by Aysun, because that's how it's supposed to be pronounced! Aye-soon (with the lil miqo'te hiss h thing of course). Surname is just Deh-meer. Seeker females take their surname from their father's forename, which are usually short, one or two syllables, so I got lucky that it could be fenangled into a forename if needed. Thanks for the rating~ AH thanks for the clarification, just as a note, I think (due to dialect difference) my Eh (mentally) sounds like you Aye, unless your place more emphasis on the e. The "soon" is still more fitting. so the "meer" is more the "mer" from "merit"? I greatly enjoy linguistics, so thanks for the time to break it down. Easiest way for me to describe it? Go to google translate, and make the Turkish guy say it. :3 He says it perfect~ http://translate.google.com/#en/tr/Aysun%20Demir Now that I've thoroughly derailed this... Some one rate his name!

    Hey guys!

Welcome. Glad to see another returning player!
  18. There is a small subset of players who have chosen not to be on Balmung due to it being Legacy, if you do make that choice they are on Gilgamesh. However if it's for reasons such as economy and player levels, I think it won't matter because all the servers will have established economies and people with endgame stuff within a month. So Gilga will be just like Balmung in that aspect anyway. I'm biased towards Balmung because it's a much larger portion of the RP community and my home server. Whatever choice you make, I hope that you can find a great linkshell and utilize this site to its fullest. Welcome! Or you can just do both!
  19. Great for things like /kneel. But /dance? Hell no. People would put themselves on /dance and AFK.. it'd be so annoying.. There's going to be enough odd stuff to ignore for the sake of immersion already, let's not add more!
  20. I'm pretty stoked. We didn't do that badly with our guestimates, but yay SE for giving real numbers finally!
  21. I'm going to respond to this because no one else has. I'm very confused by this post. I don't know what you mean by "I posted the following in the event the RP community felt that this would be a good idea:". Are you the original poster of the grey text, or are you quoting someone from somewhere else? The majority of this website's users are main on Balmung, so I'm not sure why this person's is offering to run something for us when he is not even a part of the server community. I don't really understand the concept of a live AH in XIV or how it would be useful, either. RP auctions can be fun and are good events, but are not generally used for actual in-game items. We have the market boards for that.
  22. Wow. This is an odd topic. I guess I'll explain my vote: Of course it's a continuation of the 1.0 story! They even gave us a special way for our 1.0 characters to be transferred to ARR ICly if we wanted to utilize it. No way in the seven hells am I voiding 2+ years of RP because people don't like that 1.0 and ARR don't match up perfectly and they can't explain every little tiny difference.
