Myes.. myes.. new blood.. Welcome!~ There are quite a few EU RPers around here, and most people do make an effort to schedule their events with that in mind! Try not to worry too much!

Oh that doesn't bother me as much as it seems to bother my husband. He seems a bit tense by being on a legacy server, though he's not much of a rp'er so .. it is more of my choice on where we end up. Balmung is the main RP server around here and has been for awhile (though it was Besaid before that), but there were people who wanted a fresh economy and stuff, so they voted Gilgamesh to be their non-legacy option so they weren't spread out all over the non-legacy servers. While the legacy characters are indeed "stuck" on Balmung, I don't think many of us will be transferring when the option is available unless SE names an official RP server. I do hope that the legacy title doesn't scare people off. I know plenty of new people will be starting there as well to join us, as well as many of the 1.0 characters starting over completely to experience the game fresh will still be on Balmung. I'm sure you'll be happy which ever server you choose though!

Yes we'll be able to do a 1-time name and appearance edit.
-
Yes, you can simply hide the mark for IC purposes. /legacy off or /lmark off or something, can't remember.
-
Very sad to see you'll be maining on Gilgamesh as I'll never get to RP with you there, but welcome none the less! They'll be glad to have ya. Will you be RPing at all on Balmung?

I fully agree with you from a real world stand point and its generally my stand as well however I would point you to this thread on Miqo'te Culture as we are covering the same kinda discussion there as well although a little more focused on just the Miqo'te. There have been suggestions from posters that because its a fantasy setting that we should not take real world genetics as the sole driving force of the mating, given the innately magical nature of the world. Its interesting to see two threads converging like this although I guess with the topics at hand its not surprising. Aye, as I said in that thread, while in the real world we would expect something else to happen, we should definitely go by what we see in the NPCs/given lore instead.

I'm going to give you a +1 JUST FOR THAT RESPONSE.

Equipment Guide for Crafting and Gathering
Aysun replied to Myxie Tryxle's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I would advise against looking at the old threads (though the one that was linked looks pretty new!), as I think they are mostly dealing with 1.0 information. But there's never too many good sources around, so this is useful for gear selection, while the other is good for mechanics! With all the changes to crafting and gathering in ARR, I think this is a great start for a source. Thank you for putting the effort into making it! I'll be needing it myself. Buncha my 50s are crafting/gathering and I have no idea how to do it anymore, which is just a crazy feeling... -
New Character. And since this is an MMO, you should totally do it with someone else as well. Or multiple people. Something. Let's Plays are so much more fun to actually listen to when there's multiple people involved.

S'allright. I'm a scientist too IRL. I know that in the real world, there'd be cross over since clans are more like our human RACES IRL. I'm just going off what I see in game (If one actually got passed the cultural differences of the more tribal ones and did mix clans, there's no evidence of clan traits mixing other than the tail options now becoming non-clan specific. You just don't see ashen skin-tone Seekers of the Sun or Keepers born without fangs, and such). Of course, genetic flukes can happen I'm sure. And this is just my opinion on things based on my own observations.
-
This is actually debatable, and we won't know for certain the full impact until release. While most characters forget you, not all do. I won't say more than that for fear or spoilers, just know the lore already provides loopholes in the setting. The ones that DO recognize/remember you have the Echo. Dododo. Aysun's a "Warrior of Light" and is having a hell of a time with it right now. Five years?!

As has been said before, most of the issues baring half-breeds from being common (whether different races or just different clans) is the cultural differences. Miqo'te alone have quite stark differences between the two clans: social structure of their tribes (when they are tribal--there are plenty who aren't as is evident in game now), settlement locations (Seekers are partial to Limsa and the Sagolii, Keepers are mostly in Gridania and the Shroud), and even basic things like being nocturnal vs. diurnal. This makes half-breeds unlikely. Of course, anything unlikely/rare is bound to be quite common amongst RPers! My own character fell in love with a Hyur. But she was raised non-tribally, around Hyurs for the most part, so it makes sense that she would be attracted to them. There are always ways to wiggle and make things work. My own opinion on half-breeds of any sort has always been that they would take the main traits from one parent. That is, a Hyur and Miqo'te couple could have a Hyur or a Miqo'te child, not a mixture of the two, and when instances of combining clans occur they'd appear as a Seeker or a Keeper. That sort of thing. That's just based on the lack of mixing of traits that I've seen in game (except for that silly Seeker in trailers who has Keeper markings due to SE changing their mind on something and not being able to adjust her appearance because the CS was too far in development ). But it obviously DOES happen sometimes: F'lhaminn is a Keeper of the Moon by all appearances (skin tone, eyes, fangs), but has a Seeker of the Sun name.

Me too. There's a freaking microscope there and I almost died when I found it. ..ahem
-
They're wiping 'em yea, but 1.0 characters be stuck. You'll be able to do it at launch I'm sure. Though personally I'd be careful, cuz if you delete them rather than use the remake option you may lose your tattoo thing.
-
Well that's the thing about mixing. In game we don't have any blatant "mixed" NPCs, so it's always seemed to me that if it happens, the child will look more like one parent or the other in terms of clan/race attributes. The cultural barriers would be the big ones separating the clans as much as the races. Keepers are nocturnal, Seekers are diurnal, for example, not to mention the different hierarchy in their tribes. Things like that. Not to say that love doesn't conquer all though.

I think that there's a few reasons why there's this "tenseness" in the community at times. One, we're all human. We get emotional about things we are passionate about. While we're all passionate about RP here, we all have different ideals when it comes to it, so there's bound to be heated discussions and opinionated debates. The most important thing is when these things occur that we can keep things civil through the disagreement and not take things as personal attacks (and, of course, not actually turn it into an attack on each other). Two, we're RPers! We are dramatic, creative, and crazy! Many of us have been without our main creative outlet since 1.0 went down and it's starting to really make us cranky! Three, the server thing is a really sensitive issue for a lot of us. People like me see it as a major deal because it is causing this very real segregation in the community by splitting people onto two servers. I struggle with people who say they want to do the best for the community yet want to go to Gilgamesh. I don't understand it, and tend to get emotional about it. It's just one of those issues where we're never going to agree. We have to just coexist, and it's hard when people keep bringing it up. Now that the server has been selected, I was hoping that things would go back to normal with the addition of being able to direct people who expressed concern over joining Balmung to Gilgamesh. Instead it keeps being brought up like we're treating those who want to be on Gilgamesh poorly and there's like.. a recruitment drive. It's upsetting. These aren't excuses so much as just reasons behind the madness. Even though we're not all lovey all the time with each other doesn't mean we are not all in this together for the good of RP!

Oh come on, are these really necessary? I am well aware that I need to "deal with it", but these dismissive gloating are not helping. I have to second this.

Says who? Where is it written that a cameo has to go by some preset criteria that can't involve interdimensional travel? Perhaps it doesn't suit your tastes that they chose to have the REAL Lightning cameo into the game, rather than just a Hyur with her likeness appearing, but that doesn't make it any less of a cameo. Hell, even Yoshi-P exists in the game in the form of the Wandering Minstrel. Edit: Also, maybe Lightning just uses the Duty Finder to join Eorzea? To me it isn't. But different definitions exist. I'd just really much prefer they don't pull her from her universe and stick her in this one for promotion's sake. x_x

Cameo =/= interdimensional travel
