Calling All Ishgardians! [Balmung]
Knight Kat replied to Vairemont Malveaux's topic in RP Discussion
Vairemont said: You really know your lore! I didn't know that about Ala Mhigo. Well, you have a point then. Ishgard refugees probably wouldn't have the same exact problems of the Ala Mhigan ones. Steel Wolf said: Steel, have you made a character on Balmung? Notice this is going to be a Balmung LS... I am sorry to be the one to point that out -
Calling All Ishgardians! [Balmung]
Knight Kat replied to Vairemont Malveaux's topic in RP Discussion
This idea is epic! I've taken a recent interest in Ishgard lore. And the plot theme you've set up is well thought out. Like I said in the other thread, if this LS will perhaps accept allies of the ex-Ishgardians who are non-Elzen/Hyur then count me in. You've certainly left it open for many character types to chain their story into your plot if they so desire. I've already thought of a few reasons why my character would be involved: Minor character spoilers below. That said, if you'd prefer to keep the LS exclusively ex-Ishgardian peeps, I totally understand. I could at least still RP with your group I'm sure. -
Forgotten Springs, Southern Thanalan (2nd Visit) When the sun set, my trek began anew. I crossed a stone bridge that took me to a small Immortal Flames camp. The soldiers were nervous, and I soon understood why. They were watching Amalj'aa territory. I had never seen Amalj'aa before, so I decided to scout ahead. The Roegadyn soldier almost tackled me to stop me, but his Hyur commander told him to stand down, and let me get myself killed if I desired. Little did they know that I am a trained scout. I got close enough to see the Amalj'aa sentries from a safe distance. I was awestruck. These beast-men are no Ixal. They are a whole different creature. Large, black and scaly; they were armed with spears and bows. Even from a distance I could see their imposing size. Now I know why they are oft feared. I had seen enough. I glanced at their compound along a mountainside then turned back to the Flames camp. There would be no getting through the Amalj'aa territory, but the Flames showed me a cave passage through the mountain that would take me directly to The Forgotten Springs. It was a surprisingly long cave. It went on for countless yalms before I finally reached the spring. Once I reached the Drake Tribe camp, I saw that it was an oasis in a vast, dune desert. A refuge in the Sagolii. Tress, brush, water, buildings, even a central Aetheryte crystal. They had everything. The water was abundant, clean and clear. The place was beautiful, but much smaller than I thought it would be. I was surprised by many of the things I learned about The Forgotten Springs and the Drake Tribe. They did not live in the harsh desert environment; they lived in a tiny paradise. They did not rely solely on their rangers for defense; they had a building given to Immortal Flames use, and had Immortal Flames soldiers on their grounds. I will not even speak my thoughts on their leaders. Their huntresses still hunted drakes in a traditional way, but I believe their resources were aided by Immortal Flames supplies. They were not the independent tribe of Sun-seekers I had expected them to be. Their huntresses knew no more than I did about anything. There was little I could learn from those people. I would get the rest I needed then begin my journey home.

Thank you! However, I should have been much more clear in my post. I already have an RPer lined up to be Kiht's mentor. Funny thing is, he plays an Elzen ex-Ishgard Knight too. I said "Kiht may know an Ishgardian and may get IC training from him" because I am planning the RP plot with him OOC, but it hasn't happened yet... I am sorry I gave the wrong impression. Your offer is very sweet. If the RPer I'm planning the plot with backs out of it, I would definitely take you up on your offer.

She's a Moon-keeper lancer who is feisty? .................... If you want to RP with a character -just- like yours, look me up
-
If this LS gets formed, and is open to any race/nationality then I'd -love- to join! Kiht is no Ishgardian, but she may ICly know one. And she may get IC training in his skills soon I've been meaning to advance her simple lancer skills to that of something much more complex one day. I just wanted to go about it in a more meaningful way rather than just going *poof* = *Kiht becomes uber skilled with lance* Sorry if this was off-topic and self-centered, I just wanted to put myself out there as someone interested in the LS being discussed.

Southern Thanalan (2nd Visit) I later had learned that it did not cost 10,000 gil to enter Ul'dah. I was shamefully fooled by the Brass Blades at the gate. I am very fortunate that I did not have that much gil, or I may have spent it! The nerve of the people in this arid land. Or mayhaps I am a hog-brained fool. I decided to head to a place known as The Forgotten Springs. It is the only known location of a Sun Seeker tribe that is named the Drake Tribe. Other Sun Seeker tribes are isolated, and their location is not known. This would be my only chance to see how the Sun Seekers eek out a living in a harsh land. But there would be many check-points along the way. One such check-point is a place known as Little Ala Mhigo. It is the last refuge of the traditional peoples from a once powerful nation called Ala Mhigo. I do not know much about their history, and do not really care to learn it, but I needed to stop by the settlement in order to replenish my supply of water. The Brass Blade at the gate warned me about the Ala Mhigans' hate of outsiders, but I had no choice; I needed to negotiate for rights to their settlement's spring. I felt less out of place near Ul'dah... Upon entering the “settlement”, which may be more properly called a cavern, I was greeted with menacing stares from many of the tall Hyur. I was directed towards their chieftain who was an imposing, and rather stern-looking old male. I would have to resist my urges to scowl at him... He wanted me to leave as soon as I filled my water-skins. It was dawn already, so I wished to stay the sun, but he would not allow me to stay even a bell. This was probably for the best because I was about to die from the smell of the “settlement.” But without shelter for the sun, I would have to face the Thanalan heat. I did not get far as I headed South. The sun quickly made a mess of me. I did not know I could sweat so much. I had dressed more fitting for this journey, but that was far from enough. I collapsed under a small tree, and awaited dusk. Damn the Ala Mhigans to Rhalgr. But they would like that, so nevermind.

I, myself have realized this as well. Actually, based on what I've seen, many FCs and LSs are having trouble lately. Intermission 2 is an LS I'm on, and it has a great group of people and RPers on it. However, activity does seem minimal. This is because, I think, most people (myself included) wait for the LS to produce activity for us. But the thing is, we need to produce activity for it. If everybody waits for something to happen, nothing will happen. If I had more experience setting up RP plots, and events I would do so. But my lack of experience is making it so I often don't know what to present the LS. I am hoping to change this soon. I always have a lot of plot ideas in my head, but no way to know how to bring players together on it. Yet...

dawww Gharen, does this mean you're actually a big softie? I am looking forward to this event. It's probably going to be hilarious. -
Aw! I was going to tear you to bits! Fiiiiiine! Welcome! I see you're a Keeper!....... *huntsyoustalksyouassimilatesyou* *ahem* Don't mind me, I don't know what I'm even doing awake. The community is very friendly; nothing to worry about. Except me apparently... I'm not sure how much you've lurked, so I'll tell you a few things. *The Link Shell Hall is a good place to find various LSs and FCs. *If you enjoy writing, the Town Square is a section for IC stuffs like RP threads, and character journals. *The Off-topic section even has a thread dedicated to other games you can find the RPers of this community in. *The Wiki has a lot of lore, and character-made info such as character wikis. Try not to get that stuff confused. There is more to the site than that, but I think that covers everything you mentioned interest in. /doze Oh, and Happy Hunting.....

Thanks for the feedback everyone You have no idea how glad I am that this thread didn't turn out like my last one that got locked. After reading everyone's feedback, I decided to revise the journal then re-post it. My original three entries have been completely revised, and I added two more. The journal is FAR from up to date, but I plan on adding many other entries soon. I decided to follow advice, and keep Kiht's most personal and intimate information out of the entries. The journal is a chronicle of her expeditions and the people she meets, not a diary of her most inner thoughts, desires and secrets. She gets a bit personal on the entries about player characters she meets, but that is it. I am not sure if anyone is going to like it, but it will be a fun experiment. I am using a lot of screenshots in most entries, and trying to make the written information entertaining. Again, thank you all for the encouragement. If anyone else wishes to add their 2 cents on character journals, feel free to do so. Even if I've already made my choice, more opinions wouldn't hurt the community

A Stone Used to Sharpen Blades The Brass Blades told me it would cost 10,000 gil to enter Ul'dah. I spent the sun in a refugee camp outside the city. I fail to understand why the walls of the city are so tall. It is as if they wish to keep the Gods themselves out of the city. At one point I witnessed a large gathering of people forming around a camp-ground near a river. I felt a strong urge to stalk. The diverse group of people were heavily armed, but they did not wear uniforms of any kind. Other people were obviously robed magic-users, and some of these random people surrounded an open ground as if awaiting something. I was too wary to approach the gathered people. I did not know their purpose. I stood and watched, but no clear answers were given. There were shouts from some people, responses from armed people and too much happening at once. I would not have figured it out on my own anytime soon. Fortunately, I was given answers by peculiar Hyur woman. The sound of clanking alarmed me, for I was afraid that Antlings were near again! But it was no giant insect. It, or rather she, was an armored Hyur woman by the name of Roen Deneith. I am small even from Miqo'te sight, but she was not much bigger, yet she wore armor that I would never wear unless perhaps Bahamut appeared in the sky once again! I wondered what battles she would have to fight in order to need armor like that. She glanced at me, but I did not immediately speak. I decided to approach her after mustering courage. Questions needed answering. I learned from her that the gathering peoples were going to take part in the Grindstone Tournament. No, it was not a tournament where people would compete with grindstones to see who could make the sharpest blade. It was, in fact, a tournament of fighters who would compete to be deemed the strongest and most skilled. It was a competition like I had never seen before. I sat with the kind, but quiet, Roen as we watched the fights. We spoke, and I quickly grew to like her. She seemed a strong and smart woman. I did not know the Hyur had such women among their kind. Other odd people appeared to witness the matches. One such character was an ominous Elezen who worked with Roen. After watching him, and hearing his words about the fights, I now know why Roen walks around in such heavy armor. I learned that she was a warrior of sword and shield. I learned that she never participated in the Grindstone matches. But, I didn't learn much else.

The Screenshot Thread [Tag Your Spoilers]
Knight Kat replied to Zyrusticae's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Warning, minor Adder story quest spoilers. -
NOTE: I went a little overboard, so if the post is too much to read for you, please skip to the summary at the bottom which has the most essential information and questions. Thanks. To clarify, I ask if in everyone's individual opinion, do character journals potentially diminish in-game RP with the characters in any way? Earlier on, before I had done much RP, I started a character journal. I did about three entries, but then stopped. Now that I have participated in a lot more RP, I notice that my character often gets asked about her journeys and past events. I get the pleasure of telling people information they don't already know (because it hadn't been put in my journal yet). Another time, a friend of mine said that he was afraid to put too much information in his wiki because he didn't want people to think they already knew everything about his character, and not want to RP with him. He is a more experienced RPer than I, so it got me thinking. I just recently started revising my journal off-site, and I started to realize that the newer, more succinct style with the addition of a lot more screenshots, is a much more enjoyable read IMO. I give less minute character and event details, but note and describe the most important aspects of the event or story. It is shorter, easier to read, and has more "eye-candy" in the form of screenshots. However, I am now torn about whether I should post the journal at all. I deleted my old one, and left the thread as a temporary place-holder. In the next day or so, I am going to do one of three things: 1: I will post the revised Journal as is. 2: I will post a Journal with very few words and descriptions, but share my screenshots in an episodic order that shows my character's journeys. 3: Not post a journal at all, and ask the forum admin to delete my old journal thread. I am honestly torn between three options here. Summary: Do character journals give away too much information about a character; thus, making them less enjoyable to RP with because you OOCly know about them already? Perhaps it just needs to be done right? Would a journal of episodic screenshots with contextual descriptions be enjoyable to anyone? I am torn because it's part of my character's story to take IC expeditions to various parts of Eorzea. I have my character actually go to these places; regardless of level. It is fun narrowly avoiding dangers that would otherwise kill my character. The game mechanics allow me to sneak by enemies if they are not facing me. The FATEs add random obstacles that pop up suddenly. I take beautiful screenshots of the environment and creatures, and like to write IC descriptions about what she would think and how she would feel. I want to share this with people, but don't want to give away too much that would diminish in-game RP. Thoughts?

I. Basic Info Characters: Kiht Jakkya and Qara Hotgo Primary character: Kiht Jakkya. Linkshells: Rendezvous of Stars Roll Eorzea II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Medium to heavy RP. I don't mind Role Paying with lighter Role Players at all though. I love playing the game, but RP is probably my favorite thing to do in it. I try to adapt my style to who ever I am RPing with. Usually, it works out well. Views on RP combat and injuries: I would be very willing. However, I won't likely allow death unless stated otherwise at the time. Injuries that can be healed, or recovered from, I will allow. I do not mind if my character loses, but I will likely only have her lose if her opponent does something that demonstrates superior skill, wit or luck. Kiht is an "underdog type", but not a "push-over". I prefer rolling systems or /random for combat. However, free-form can be used if there is a mutual trust, or if we want a specific outcome for story purposes. Views on IC romance: Open to it. If it happens, it happens. Any further details would need to be discussed with the IC partner. I like to let RP romance happen organically for the most part. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Friends are an important part of RP for me. Business connections are good too. I usually like for my character to get to know the person ICly first. However, I tend to have my character form connections quickly with the right kind of people. Views on lore: I try to strictly adhere to my interpretation of the lore. However, I do not care if others share, or abide by such an interpretation. The only time I would take issue with someone was if they were breaking lore that has been confirmed by the developers. Other than that, opinions are like Miqo'te, everybody has one.... Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): /tell is always OOC unless character is in whispering distance, or if it is over a personal linkshell. I use /say and /em for RP. I will use /party for OOCness in some cases unless someone wants a private RP session for some reason. I would be willing to use /party for RP in uncommon cases. III. Contact Info Country:United States Timezone:PST Contact info: PM me here! I check this site like twice a day. In-game, all are welcome to send tells. IV. Character Info Mary Sue Test Score: 20. A small bit higher than average because of a specific plot in my RP history, but still in the "Low chance of being a Mary Sue" range. Ohhhhhh, well, she can still hunt me down anytime she likes LOL.

I practice Archery IRL, but I can only speculate as to the purpose of those things. The legs decoration may serve a purpose of immediately helping the archer know when they are holding the bow right-side-up. Ironic that they'd use upside-down legs to do that. Another possibility is that the decoration is a balancing weight. Weights are often used on bows, but they are usually attached to the front of the bow, not on one of the limbs /shrug. The decoration looks solid and heavy. If I were using that bow, and an enemy got close to me (which usually needs to be avoided) I might swing my bow at them making sure that stupid decoration smacked them in the face. Cuz, that would hurt!
-
I've been told she will be hunting you down too, to see if she likes how you react. Awww thats cuuuute. She's like 5 or 6 IRL right? I'm impressed she can type and play the game. She can hunt me down anytime she likes

I prefer planning too, but sometimes random and spontaneous RP is a lot of fun. One thing that has helped me is bringing a friend along to a place where random RP happens. That way, you get the support of having someone who you planned to RP with, and can combine it with the possibility of random people joining in. I also feel braver when I have a friend with me. The hardest thing to learn is indeed how to think on the fly because it requires practice. Just take your time with it. No good RPers would rush you. If you have a long response you want to type, send a tell to the person before doing so. Say something like "my next post might be long, need a min." You'll get the hang of it. Well, when it comes to the RPers in this game, we all play on unofficial RP servers. This means a lot of players are not RPers. With some trolls (that don't understand RPers) running around, we all need to stick together, and are often reminded of the beauty of tolerance. Kiht is ICly from the Black Shroud. I RP a lot in Gridania. However, Kiht takes IC expeditions to Ul'dah sometimes. Hopefully, I'll see you on sometime soon. Happy Hunting!

OMG ITS A LALAFELL GIVE ME ALL YOUR ARPEES! *Ahem* sorry, sorry. Its just, I hardly see any RP Lalafells around. Anyways... Despite my silliness on this forum, I am quite shy myself. I have gotten over it a great deal, but lately I find that I still struggle with it sometimes. I am rather new to RP as well compared to people who have been doing it for years. HOWEVER, you would be hard pressed to find a more open and accepting community here, so it is a good place to help you overcome your shyness. If you see me in game, or even wish to find me in player search. Send me a tell! I, for one, am always looking for RP contacts. Happy hunting!
