Welcome to the site! Answer to 1: Me too! I am big on exploring and even make a journal about it. I run into a lot of RPers in the wilds, but not as many as can be found in the taverns. Maybe I'll see you around out there! Answer to 2: This has already been answered I am on at odd times sometimes as well. Even at very late hours, RP still happens. Answer to 3: The different races do have slightly different starting stats. However, any race can do any and all of the professions, and be good at them. Maybe at level 1 a Lalafell Gladiator might have a slight disadvantage over a Roegadyn Gladiator, but once you start leveling, the starting stats will become virtually meaningless.

True enough that the lore does not say that they have their own language, but so far, I haven't seen anything that denies the existence of it either. Regardless of how long the Miqo'te have been in Eorzea, some could still have their own language. It doesn't matter how long its been if they maintained their own societies separate from the others. Want a real world example? Do the Italians still speak an Italian language? Yes. How close are they to Greece, or France or Germany or Spain? Every country I mentioned still has their own language. How long have the people of Europe been on the same continent? And Europe is not a big continent. They are really close to each other. They all share histories of empires that conquered the whole continent at certain points, and yet, they still have soooo many languages. Yes, the languages have changed over last few thousand years, but they are still intact and different. Eorzea is a single continent, not a single country. However, I will concede that it is not the real world. Its up to the devs on whether or not they wish to make an official language for the Miqo'te. I can't change it, but I can try to find a loop-hole if I want, and the devs have left a lot of loop-holes in the lore. I Just want to clarify to whom it may concern, I am not looking for something to force other players to concede to. I am looking for a way to make my cat-girl different in a world of cat-girls. Not better, just a little bit unique maybe. I am exploring options, and I am frustrated by the often vague lore. Anyone is free to disagree with me ofcourse, but I am not looking to turn this into a debate. Debate threads go on and on and on and on with no end until one side gets tired and gives up because they don't want to argue anymore. As a result, I welcome any further input, but I will probably make this my last post on this thread for now. C'kayah has already given me an option to explore, and I will do so until I or someone else, finds solid evidence in the lore that clearly says that all current Miqo'te in Eorzea speak one and only one language with nothing left of their traditional languages. I hope I have not offended anyone, I honestly appreciate all replies to this thread and the input of everyone.

RPing with the Anti-Social! ~A Humble Guide
Knight Kat replied to Vysce the Lad's topic in RP Discussion
I've played broody characters before. I can't take it; I get too lonely Because of this, I have absolutely great appreciation for those people that can RP and stick with playing a broody character. My current character may not be an extroverted social butterfly, but she is not what I would define as broody. I always make an attempt to at least ICly acknowledge broody characters. I have made a mental note to try to be inquisitive about broody characters. Theirs is a strong burden to bear of wanting to get involved, but not being ICly prone to it. -
It's not been quick. Miqo'te have been in Eorzea for quite a long time. They migrated during the 5th Umbral era, between 1500 and 4000 years ago. They're not as primitive as most people like to assume. While I've never done the math to see when the fifth Umbral Era took place, and didn't know it was 1,500 to 4,000 years ago, I did know that the fifth Ubral Era is when they migrated. I didn't mean that they should be primitive, and never said they were. I don't equate traditional with primitive. Also, not all Miqo'te are traditional. I am talking about only traditional Miqo'te. Look at the U (Drake) tribe in the Sagolii. Sure they speak the common language, but they also don't like outsiders and prefer to try and maintain their traditions. There is no reason to think they are the only Sun Seeker tribe that is like that or even more isolationist and traditional. In recent history many of the Moon Keepers were infamous poachers in the Twelveswood. It does say most have made peace with Gridania and some even call it their home now, but it didn't say ALL. My point is, if someone wants to RP a Miqo'te who is a citizen of a city-state, speaks common Eorzean as a primary or only language, does not cling to traditions and is fully assimilated to urban society then fine; the lore supports that. But if someone wants to RP a Miqo'te who grew up in a clan/tribe that clung to their traditions and lived a more isolated cultural lifestyle then the lore supports that too. The lore seems to suggest that traditional Miqo'te societies are not doing well, but they still are out there. If a people are still living a more traditional lifestyle, I don't think its a stretch to say that these more traditional Miqo'te can have knowledge of a more traditional language. I hope I don't have to type the word "traditional" any more...:frustrated:

YAY! Thank you C'kayah! I have something to go on now. I guess I'm doing some research. Its ok, I like research! I like ancient Egyptian mythology too, so I'm sure this will be fun. Thanks everyone for your responses.

Seeking:: Merchants, traders, people/FCs with services for hire
Knight Kat replied to Michikyou's topic in RP Discussion
This is a neat idea. Hopefully, people will find interest in it. Currently, I can't think of an IC reason to be part of the services (doesn't mean I won't eventually find a reason). My leather-working is low level, and I have no other crafting professions yet. Not sure what services I can offer yet. I know that I will be there as, at least, a visitor or customer maybe -
Ah well, it was worth asking I suppose. You'd think that the traditional Miqo'te tribes and clans wouldn't be so quick to assimilate a common Eorzean language as their primary language. Also, Miqo'te names are so different from the common language's words that you'd think they would have to know at least a bit of the old language so that they can continue to give their children traditional names. Most of Eorzea's people have indeed taken to the city-states, but there are people still isolated. Some Highlanders in Little Ala Mhigo, Duskwights in their hidden underground cities, Miqo'te in their tribes and clans. Unless I'm missing something, it makes sense for these more isolated peoples to have their traditional languages intact. But its no use for me to argue with something that I can't change. I just wanted my character to seem more traditional by throwing some "foreign" words into RP on occasion. I guess that won't be doable for now. Ildur and Jana, thanks for the linguistics lessons. Its interesting to know that the Miqo'te naming conventions might be influenced by ancient Roman, Egyptian and maybe Turkish. However, correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think I can assume any of those languages would be identical to Miqo'te language? So I can't use them.

Character name: Kiht Jakkya Combat ability: Javelin throw. ((She is a Lancer.)) IC Description: As a huntress, Kiht carries four javelins alongside her main harpoon (melee lance) that she can throw in order to wound animals (or people) she can't easily get close to. She could use these as a ranged attack in battle. OOC Description: When a lancer completes a certain amount of Lancers Guild quests, you get the ability to throw lance at enemies. I can't think of what the power is called off the top of my head. However, I have never liked the weapon throw abilities in a game that make it so you can throw a great axe, great sword, or lance that just returns to you like Thor's Hammer. If my character ICly throws her lance, it should NOT just teleport back to her. Therefore, I ICly act as if Kiht is NOT throwing her lance, but instead throws javelins when she uses that ability. Weakness 1: ((This is actually a lot of little weaknesses)). She only has four javelins. Carrying any more would impede her. Once she throws all four she must be able to move to where they impacted and recover them before she can throw them again; but only, if they are not broken or imbedded in a living creature or person. The javelins are much smaller and lighter than her lance. They will not penetrate heavy armor. They can be deflected or blocked by a shield. They can often break on impact with hard objects. A very fast and agile creature or person can possibly dodge them. Kiht cannot use them in melee. Kiht cannot gain the posture needed to throw them if in melee combat. Kiht cannot use her lance and javelins at the same time; she must hold her lance unready in one hand while throwing a javelin. Accuracy with the javelins is not as precise as it would be with a bow and arrow. If someone is skilled with javelin throwing they can throw her own javelins back at her  ((I think that about covers it)). Weakness 2: Low aether. She was born with low aether; thus, she cannot become a magic user. She is weakened by high temperatures, and dislikes fire unless she is desperately cold or has raw meat to cook. NOTE: Kiht has a few other weaknesses. They can be found on her wiki page. Passive ability 1: I take full advantage of being an athletic Miqo'te Keeper! Superior vision in the dark and night. Sharp hearing, but not as good as Elzen hearing. Excellent and powerful sense of smell. Fast, agile and very well-balanced. Lots of stamina. Obviously good in the athletic department, but not very scholastic. She tends to neglect her critical thinking skills, and does not like to read much. Passive ability 2: Hunter's instincts. Her trained sense of perception allows for her to sense when something is amiss. When her sharp senses synchronize she can get a clearer picture of her environment than most. Sometimes these complex senses and perceptions backfire. They will make her paranoid, and/or easily distracted. The strength of her instincts can often make her act without thinking, or she can loose focus and discipline.

I am not certain if this belongs in RP discussion or FFXIV discussion. I was wondering if anyone with linguistic knowledge knew of a real language that is similar to Miqo'te naming conventions? I would love for my character to be able to occasionally spout off words in a traditional language. It is easier with some of the other races. For example, based on naming conventions, the Elzen seem like their language would be similar to French (correct me if I'm wrong), the Hyur have many European linguistic roots (mostly Northern it seems), I have no clue about the Roegadyns but the Sea Wolves seem to have a language that might be based on a real one and the Lalafell language is based on Dr. Seuss... It seems like the peoples of Eorzea have a common language for ease of dialogue in the game, but it also seems there are linguistic differences in the traditional languages of the races. I am not even close to being a language expert, so if I am wrong about anything please correct me. Also, in case anyone didn't get it, the last comment I made about the Lalafell language is a joke

This must be new RP Miqo'te week. It is nice to meet you Sarlorius. My character in-game is Kiht Jakkya. If you want, you can do a player search in-game and send me a tell or add me to your friends list. If you are shy, I can seek you out instead. Either way, I am always willing to RP with anyone. I would be a safe person to practice with as I am very nice and non-judgmental. However, I could say that about most of the people in this community. Maybe see you in-game

How does someone who is new to RP have 400+ posts??? Do you make 10 to 20 posts a day? You have almost as many posts as Olofantur!

Looking for People to Brainstorm/RP Large In-Depth Plots with
Knight Kat replied to Tiergan's topic in RP Discussion
All I can say for sure is I'm curious to see what you have in mind. If you can give specifics, I could say yay or nay. -
Hey there Elyscia! I just recently got back into RP. It has been very slow-going. I lurked this site for nearly two months and then I lurked Balmung for weeks. I have been SO SO SO shy about approaching people for RP. However, things have been slowly coming together. Just like Merri said, the trick is taking baby steps out into the open. Putting yourself out there. For instance, I searched out RPers that I found on this forum and added them to my friends list (still searching for some). It was as simple as sending an OOC (out of character) tell to them that said "hello, can I add you?". Then I asked to join a Link Shell called Intermission. There are many other Link Shells out there too. Today I went to my first RP event which is hosted by the Grindstone Free Company. It was the Wednesday training matches. I highly recommend their events because you get to watch a lot of RP and there is no pressure to be constantly entertaining or chatty because the matches are the center of attention. Just like real life, an event gives people something to talk about. There are many other events that occur too. I did more RP today than I have done in the last two weeks. So everything is coming together for me. If I can do it, so can you. I'd like to find you in-game and practice RP with you one of these days if you are interested. My character is Kiht Jakkya. Send me a tell and I will add you to my friends list. Or if it's ok with you, I can find you and send you the tell. No pressure, this is just an offer. I welcome you to this site Hopefully, one of the most helpful Elzen in the world will be along to spam you with all sorts of goody links.

Eastern Thanalan (1st visit) Eastern Thanlan was more lush than expected. The trees were pitifully sized and few in number, but they were strong and healthy. The brush was half-alive and half-dead with leaves that bore hues of brown and green. The soil was dry; a mix of sand and dirt. But the night insects chirped as loudly as they would in the Shroud, and the cycle of life paced ahead; being driven by many beastkin and other animals. The night sky was the most impressive sight. Clear and unobstructed; the stars, and the glorious Moon were easier to see than ever. Unlike the Shroud, there were no tree canopies in Thanalan to block any sight from the sky! I was in awe of it. Finding water and food was not as hard as expected. A large river was close to a place called Highbridge. And a kind of Aldgoat lives in the land. They were easy prey during the night. With only scavenger hounds and Ziz-like beasts to worry about, I hardly felt threatened during most of my trek. Highbridge was a good place to find rest. The Brass Blades allowed me to sleep there for a modest fee. I slept the sun away then continued my trek into the next night. I was warned about a Beast Tribe of Amalj'aa that settled near-by, but I never encountered them. The Thanalan nights were actually very cold, but much more preferable to me than the heat of the Thanalan sun. I traveled a ways to a place called Camp Drybone. Even with the gods damned scavenger hounds following me at a safe, but annoying distance, my trek was uneventful. The camp was my next place of rest. I found it odd that they would build a settlement in a large pit, but mayhaps the people of Thanalan like pits? I slept the sun, and had my Aldgoat meat cooked by a rather grouchy Roegadyn chef. A Brass Blade gave me directions to Ul'dah, for a modest fee, then I set off to a South-Western pass to Central Thanalan. I was hoping my trek through Central would go just as smoothly, but Nymeia served my hopes to Rhalgr on a godly plate.

If a LS like this is made, please let me know. I would be so up for this. Anything IC that involves action and adventure is a win for me I am no expert on doing RP dungeons or anything like them, but I think setting up and using macros could help with multitasking combat and RP.

Thank you very much. I will try it. -
I really hate to post a "plz halp me" thread, but I've had it! On the screenshot thread there are a few posts where you see images in the post. If you scroll the mouse over the image, the arrow icon will turn into a magnifying glass. If you click it, the image will enlarge. How do I do this? I've tried the "insert an image" Icon. That makes it so the image has to be really small to fit into the post. You have to specify width and height (which is like a guessing game!). I've tried the attachment system. The image can't be bigger than 500kb. If it is, it will not let me attach it. If I re-size an image to be 500kb it is too small to see any details. I don't see any tutorials, or how-to links on this site at all. Am I blind? I will greatly appreciate any assistance. I'm sorry for adding a thread like this to the forums, but I see no other options Edit: I found help links, but none of them tell me how to post images that can be zoomed or enlarged. I must be missing something

When are you going to do this event again? I'm sorry I missed it.

I have discovered that I could really use an LS like this. I would like to join it if y'all will have me.

The Black Shroud “You cannot lie to nature. It will eventually force you to be honest.” That is a family proverb. My mother speaks it often, but I only learned its full meaning recently. Nature demands things from us. If we choose to deny it, we die. It is that simple, and that strict. I must kill to eat, I must accept that I am never fully clean and I must be selfish at least part of the time. The path to being a good person is not pretending that I would not harm a gnat, or that I am selfless; it is killing only when needed, following a code of conduct and learning to commit occasional acts of charity. Beyond that, people can do nothing more without putting on a falsehood. A falsehood that would soon be destroyed by the forces of nature within us all. My home is the Black Shroud. Some call it the Twelveswood. Even after being struck hard by the fires of the calamity, the Black Shroud is still vast, and still intricate. But the vastness it still has is nothing compared to what it once had. The Twelveswood is like a large beastkin that has been dealt a bleeding wound. If the wound continues to bleed, the beast will eventually die. Even after a cycle in Gridania, I still do not understand, nor place my faith in, the Elementals. Other places in Eorzea survive without Elementals, so why are they so important to the Shroud? The Gridanians swear by them, and would do their bidding; everything else be damned by Rhalgr. But me, I place my faith in the Twelve, and bow to no other power. My sept, and many others, must survive in a dying forest that is no longer able to support everyone who calls it home. Everything we have done, we did for our survival. It is no longer enough. The Ixal are like scavenger birds that see weakness, and attack. Their raids, Gridanian laws and the desperate groups trying to eek out a living in Eorzea are all adding to a hardship my kin cannot bear for much longer. That is where my story began. As one of the scouts in my family, I set off into Eorzea to find resources, and mayhaps even new hunting grounds for my group. I plan to make many ventures to many lands.

I may be just a dummy, but I am not aware of "handily available IG travel times". Can someone tell me where to look up that information? If there are cannon or widely agreed upon IG travel times then I would gladly go by those. However, I was not aware, so I've been making my best guesses about travel time. I never ICly use airships, nor do I ICly use aetherytes. This is because my character is currently poor, and does not have authorization to use them because she is not a citizen of any city. That said, if a person is wealthy, a powerful wizard or a government authorized diplomat or scholar then I see no reason why they can't ICly use the crystals or airships. Edit: ROFL, Tobias.
