If we consider that Eorzea is a huge place with tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands of Miqo'te, the Miqo'te player-character base is suddenly a minority. Because of the low male birth rate, most Miqo'te need to be polyamorous or have frequent short-term monogamous pairings in order to sustain their species (racial) population. However, even if the whole Miqo'te player-character base were monogamous, they are too small a minority to really harm the species (race) with their actions. The lore on traditional Miqo'te is clear (what little there is), but there are also plenty of examples of Miqo'te who live according to a city culture, and examples of monogamous Miqo'te in the game. There has even been an example of a Miqo'te who was interested in a Hyur man. Every culture has deviants, and all the monogamous deviant Miqo'te player-characters won't hurt their species, and are not breaking lore. Not all Miqo'te are of the same mindset, and people don't always do what is best for their species. The proof is humanity itself IRL. I myself like my characters to feel very different from me because it creates an interesting challenge for RP. So, Kiht is close to a traditional Keeper with a traditional mindset. It infers -nothing- about me IRL aside from the fact I like to play something I'm not. As for how Kiht reacts to monogamous Miqo'te; she is apathetic. As long as the nontraditional "deviants" don't try to shove their beliefs in her face, she is too busy to be judging anyone's shit. She has other more important shit to do. Also, all those Nunh who are walking around trying to collect random Miqo'te women into a harem are either looking for ERP, or misunderstanding Miqo'te lore. They should -not- be used as examples of Seeker lore because they are not abiding by Seeker lore. Can people please stop citing the horny cat-dude player-characters as lore?

balmung The Fight Tournament come back!?
Knight Kat replied to Zar'ine Moks's topic in Chronicled Events
If it's on those days, it will finally be something I can attend. Hopefully it will be at a time that is good too. Being in the PST time zone sucks sometimes. Regardless, glad you are reviving this. -
I like Roegadyns. I like their lore; especially Sea Wolves. I don't find them unattractive at all. They can actually look quite beautiful or awesome. However, I chose a Keeper because a Keeper is what fit the character concept that interested me the most. I've been staring at Kiht for nearly two years, and must respectfully disagree that Miqo'te look waifu or whatever the heck that truly means. Sure, they can be made to look dolly, but so can Roe women (see below). If we're talking height, Miqo'te are -far- closer to average human height than Roe women who are no shorter than six feet three inches! Just because there is a race of giants, doesn't suddenly make the females of other races waifus. Miqo'te have a subtle shape to their body, faces and features that give them a -hint- of animalistic flavor without taking away their human design. Most people don't see the subtle detail, and say they look like humans with cat ears and a tail. I'd have to wager that people could still tell if a character was Miqo'te without the ears and the tail (though I admit it would be harder). Anyways, a lot of it is indeed subjective, but I didn't choose a Keeper because I thought they looked cute. I wanted to try something out. I spent 5 mins making a Femroe look as dolly as I could then 5 mins making a Miqo'te as intimidating as I could. They are stripped down because I wanted to compare builds. The Femroe is at a min height of 6'3.6'' while the Miqo'te girl is nearly a foot shorter at a max height of 5'3.8". Maxing out muscle definition on the femRoes does not increase bulk. It only changes skin texture. I -do- wish Miqo'te females had that option though.

Kiht squinted her eyes as she reread the announcement. She sat casually on a stump while a campfire steadily burned away in front of her. After a moment of thought, she sat up then moved one leg over the other. "Silly news people." She spoke out loud in an amused voice then shrugged, and grabbed an apple that had been sitting at her side. She smirked then took a bite. The crunch was a bit aggressive as she chewed it down a bit quicker than she usually would. "Such a shite jest..." Kiht suddenly stood from her seat, hurled the apple into the near-by river then drew her knife. She ruthlessly stabbed the newspaper three times then began to rip it to shreds. After countless rips and tears, she threw the remains into the fire, and sat back down. Her knife was slipped back into its sheath. However, despite the violent outburst, she regained her calmness quickly. "They must think highly of their humor... Waste of ink." The fire burned stronger for a few moments as it consumed the paper.

First choice: 3. The Sylphlands. (I feel this is a place Kiht could be most effective if she were to go. It also feels like the most solid lead. ) Second choice: 2. The Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak. (While Kiht believes it would be retracing an old trail, it definitely needs to be investigated.) Last choice: 1. The Lost City of Amdapor. (If I -wanted- to kill Kiht off, this is where I would send her. It feels like a set-up for a trap. )

In the Archery Questline, it is shown that Keepers have great pride in their archery, but not all Keeper NPCs are shown to be archers. It's the same for hunting. Actually, in the Moogle Mail Questline you are doing, you will get to the quest called "The Past is a Story We Never Tell". In that quest, you will talk to one of the most traditional Keeper NPCs in the game. She is not a hunter; she appears to be a merchant, and her sister confirms the two were not raised to be hunters. My thoughts: It seems Keeper tradition is not limited to a hunter-gatherer lifestyle. It makes sense. In any kind of society, there are different roles that need to be filled. Also, there are certainly Keeper mages, and likely several roles for them that do not include hunting.

Kiht Jakkya will be 25 in October. Qara Hotgo is 20.

If I may, I'd like to sign up for event 2 on my alt, Qara Hotgo. I already made a sheet for her, and it has been reviewed by Nihka. I'd be happy to run it by Verad ASAP if needed as well, and all I need is an invite to the LS for my alt.

Honestly, I've just about given up trying to judge what characters should and should not be capable of in this game. Especially after the MSQ cut-scene at the end of 2.55. Different RP/plot circles have unwritten rules about what scale character abilities should be on. For someone like me that ends up getting involved with several different groups on one character, it can be hard to decide how far I should take my character when it comes to ability. I like to clearly see where the standard is. I like boundaries being clearly defined because I value their importance in a story. This game just does not clearly define boundaries. Magic this, aether that. For my character, she's a Lancer. I'm never making her a Dragoon for story reasons. So my issue was trying to think of how her skills could still be relevant in a world of guns, mages and magitek. I like the idea of her being a bit antiquated. She's a traditional hunter of the Twelveswood. However, based on inspiration from the antagonist of Lancer Class Quest-line, Foulques, I've decided that there is enough evidence to support the development of some magic/aether that even Lancers can learn to use. Kiht doesn't have the aether capacity or training to be a mage. But, with the help of a Thaumaturge mentor, she's been training for months to use her aether's ice affinity in order to use mild forms of ice magic along with her combat abilities (yes, more ice magic... I wasn't expecting so many others to use it too, but I guess that means it's not such a bad idea). However, it should be noted that I haven't expressed this ability in her RP outside of my FC group. This is due to the fear that it will be seen as breaking an unspoken boundary. But in my interpretation of the lore, what Kiht has learned isn't lore-breaking.

balmung Shy Xaela open for connections
Knight Kat replied to CrimsonMars's topic in Chronicled Connections
Want to have her meet another Hotgo? My alt is Qara Hotgo, and you've already RPed with me before with Chiyo! Qara is kinda shy too, but she isn't anti-social. Her curiosity and ambition keep her going, and can be used to fuel many conversations. She's not keen on magic, but has nothing against mages. She is a courier that plans to become so much more, and that means she can be almost anywhere for the reason of delivering things. -
“.... Are ya sure, this is a big decision.” “Indeed, I have thought on it for a long while.” Kiht Jakkya stood to her feet, slowly. Time even felt slowed as she regarded the door from the inside of her room. Her body and expression were tense with anticipation. “Ya all set?” “Indeed, I can not take much with me.” Kiht turned to where her small falcon, Haru, was perched. She let out a swift whistle, and the bird flapped over to her shoulder. Two spears and a pack were slung around her other shoulder. Tied to the pack was a quiver of arrows, and a short bow was tied to her hip. On her other hip was a sheathed hunting knife. “That's a lot, girl.” “Not much compared to what I own... Shite... I have come to live like some kind of royalty... I am done. I am going to live like a free hunter once again.” “Who said a hunter needs ta live a humble life?” Kiht paused and glanced to the older woman. “I am not a trophy hunter, nor a glory hunter, nor a treasure hunter. I am Shroud-born Keeper hunter. I am a scout of the Jakkya family.” “Shite, Just go already.” The older woman interjected. Kiht curtly nodded. “The Twelveswood is plagued corruption like I have never seen, a strange and powerful warrior who speaks like a Sylph destroyed my only lead on Raelisanne, the Spears of Truth seek the soul stone of a legendary Moon-Keeper hero and I need to finally find the rest of my family. I can not attend to any of this while acting as Matriarch of the Shroudwolf Clan...” “This isn't just one of your moods? You're serious about this?” Kiht turned her gaze to the cold, stone floor, and grew a pensive expression. She nodded after a moment of thought. “Indeed. I must do this. If not for the reasons I said then because I may have to break further laws. The last thing the Clan needs is another Wailer investigation.” “Then shut up... And go.” Kiht gave the old woman a glance then grew a smirk before turning towards the door. Once again, time felt like it had slowed. As Kiht left the room, every step made a clack on the wooden floor, and her mind seemed to innately count each step. She began to feel sluggish and numb as she stepped outside the house into the cool forest air. It was morning; a time when most in the Clan would be asleep. The birds chirped like on any other day - unaware of the weight of the moment for the lone Keeper. A deep breath was taken, and Kiht closed her eyes to take a moment to focus her mind. Aware that her aunt had followed her, she paused. “Watch over them, please.” “I have no authority with them. They haven't even met me yet.” “I know... You do not need any authority. Just watch... Please.” “Kiht...” “Hm?” “I'm not you... I'll look after em as best as a stranger can do, but it isn't like ya won't visit once in awhile.” Tears began to well in Kiht's eyes, but she suppressed the urge to sob. She forced her body to remain strong, but her muscles threatened to weaken; making her start to quiver. “I love them all...” Kiht's voice cracked as she spoke quietly. Suddenly, a gentle hand rested on Kiht's shoulder. “I know. I think they know too. But a hunter helps their family by providing for them. You aren't turnin' your back on em. You're changin' roles for em. They may not understand, but true love isn't conditional. You got to give em their independence, but when they truly need you, you'll be there.” The older woman then began to give Kiht a gentle push towards the archway exit to the Clan yard. She didn't need to push for long as Kiht began to walk under her own power once more. Kiht paced out past the archway then took a deep breath. She turned towards the Clan house one more time to regard it then began to walk towards the exit to the Lavender Beds. “My gratitude, aunt Kehda. 'Tis time to finish my business.” Kiht said with determination in her voice before she left the Lavender Beds, and entered the true forest.

"So much for the so-called defenders of the forest!" Kiht growled out as she paced home through the forest; /out of pocket change/. She had chosen to pay back what R'elend had robbed from the innocent levemete Moon-sister. Weylen, the Wood Wailer who had accompanied Kiht and her party, had declared the leve abandoned. Kiht gained no gil, but it wasn't that she was upset about. The lies, the treachery and the dishonor of both R'elend and the Wailers only helped to confirm her worst negative feelings and opinions about the Wood Wailers -and- the Brass Blades. Gridania's guardians were no better it seemed. "On my own!... On our own! My clan, my allies and anyone who gives a damn about this forest will fix this on our own! Swive the Wood Wailer law, and swive that Gods damned bloody seven Hells-spawned boar-shite-eating bastard Arse Blade!" She yelled to a near-by songbird's dismay as the poor thing flew off to flee the screeching Miqo'te. Kiht fumed more than she had in a long time. R'elend robbed a fellow Keeper under the nose of a Wood Wailer, and got away with it. The more Kiht thought about it, the angrier she became. She began to spin her guisarme in windmill-like motions as she continued to stride towards the Lavender Beds. Swooshing sounds seemed to emanate from the pole-arm as its deadly array of spikes and hook cut through the air. "Hook to the groin, stab to the belly and spike to the head... " She muttered in a harsh tone. "That would be a nice way to deal with him." Kiht continued to fantasize all the way home. Gods only knew if she was truly serious.

Awesome pic time! "I would pray to Gods and Spirits if I thought they would help the refugees, but they won't, so I will." "The fear is fake. Face it." "There is war in this land. It not fought with weapon and warrior, but gil and greed." "'Tis a war! Neither side believes it is wrong, but to take part, we must choose a side." (insert epic theme here) "Indeed I am hot in this, my gratitude." "If our weapons do not defeat them, your cleavage will." -
I think it's important to also keep in mind that many people don't always talk in good grammar. I reflect that -intentionally- in character dialogue. Plenty of characters have accents too, and it's hard to tell sometimes if their imperfect grammar is intentional. One of my characters speaks very formally because that is how she learned common Eorzean. However, she also uses needn't, 'tis, mayhaps, nay, ect. These may not be considered wrong, or bad grammar, but they are an example of intentionally trying to make the character sound like an Eorzean. My other character has an accent. However, unlike sailor/pirate and Highland accents, trying to make someone sound like they have an Othard accent is a challenge. I intentionally make her dialogue seem imperfect, and she has trouble with big words. I plan to have her improve over time, but for now, I am enjoying the experiment. As for correcting and being corrected, I am often of this mindset below:

Oh my god, are you serious?? Where was this? I tried to like read as much lore regarding Au Ra or anything relating to them in game, but found little to nothing, unless my memory is being hella screwy. >< Dark Knight story line!

What is "realistic" in a world where people of many professions can use magic, people often wear armor made of metals stronger than steel and things like aether and materia come into play? People develop combat styles based on the times and context. Modern knife-fighting could have an application in Eorzea, but there are many scenarios where it wouldn't cut it (pun not intended). What if the person you are trying to use the knife on has a spear? Good luck trying to shoulder-grab and close in to stab the spear-user. What if you tried that move on an armored Paladin? Knives by nature are side-arms in warfare. Even in the era where guns didn't exist, bigger, longer weapons were a soldier's first go-to. For Rogues and Ninja who use knives and short-blades as primary weapons, I would think the simple moves won't be enough for every foe.
