It might also depend on what you define as "active". I consider my FC active, but I am also trying to make it even more active (with increasing success!). There will be times where there are hardly any people online, and then times where we have all our members online RPing together at once. Anyways, I believe you not seeing the active RP FCs is due to the whole insular plots thing. Yes, I often wish there were more open plots occurring in the community, but I understand why most FCs (including mine mostly) keep their plots within their own group. Diversity. It is -impossible- to appeal to everyone's tastes and style of RP. I have seen many people try. It is easier to run a plot with a cast that all fit the theme, or share similar preferences. Do members of RP FCs interact with characters outside their FCs? I think most do. I certainly do. It's hard sometimes. My own FC members will want to RP with me while I am trying to also find time to RP with characters I know outside my FC. However, most of the RP done with characters outside my FC is casual. Sometimes I try to pull others into our plots, or get involved in plots of others, but like I said, it's difficult. My advice, if you aren't having any luck with the LS Hall, is to attend casual stuff. Meet characters, join linkshells and use the "Making Connections" section of the forum. Contacts you make will have their own contacts. It's networking just like real life. The difference between active FCs and inactive FCs is active FCs have active members that can be found frequently in-game one way or another. Find people. Edit:  Well, since he made a call-out to my FC, we do have an LS for allies, friends and people interested in RPing with any of us. It helps put contacts out in the community, and allows for some joint-FC stuff. LSs are good ways for FCs to branch out into the wider community a bit better.

Rules, recruitment process and RP information streamlined and majorly updated!

I want to throw in "savage(s)" for Keepers of the Moon. One of the Elezen characters during the archery class quest-line uses it often when referring to them.

How would you change your favourite class/job?

Hard to complain about Dragoons after SE gave them the buff, but I still think Jump and Elusive Jump need to have hit-box mechanics fixed. Elusive Jump would be a great ability to occasionally use to escape a boss AOE, but it seems like the hit-box doesn't move from your original spot -until- the animation is complete. Would really be nice to have realistic hit-box movement. When my character is outside the AOE warning indicator zones before the AOE triggers I should -not- get hit damn it. It's not like that would be OP either. Elusive Jump has a long recharge time. I know it rids Dragoons of aggro, but I almost never need it to get adds off me. Actually, I spend most of my time trying to chase adds down. It would be much more useful as an ability to help escape those huge boss AOEs that give you just barely enough time to escape. Admittedly, it does work for that sometimes, but it could be much better. As for Jump, it's great for damage, but despite the range it has, I almost never find it useful as a ranged attack. They decided to use realistic hit-box movement for Jump, so when my character animates jumping in, she can get hit by attacks and AOE during that even if they aren't aimed at the spot she jumped from. This makes it risky to use Jump on a target that is in the indicator of an AOE. But there are few other times I would use it for anything else aside from my melee-range rotation. I'm not sure how it should be changed though. TL;DR: loldrg -

Well it seems like my lack of seeing much action/adventure RP out there may be due to the fact that it seems to be mostly done by FCs with insular plots. Makes sense I guess. I was starting to wonder if most people were simply not into that sort of RP. However, seems plenty are! I've started a Task Board project with my FC to give members more adventurous stuff to do, and I've been brainstorming a Twelveswood plot for a month. I planned to use an LS as the foundation for that plot instead of limiting it to only my FC. It looks like I should follow through with that, and maybe throw in some IC dungeons.

Let me preface this with me saying that I am not criticizing anyone's RP preferences, and I am -well- aware that plenty of people do not primarily look for action or adventure in their RP; at least not in terms of the media genre definition of action/adventure. I also ask this question as a person who enjoys -many- forms/genres of RP. Now, I will elaborate on what I mean. I am curious as to how much action and/or adventure (the genre definitions) everyone gets in their RP. AND, do you personally feel you get enough? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For me, I have to admit that I don't feel I get enough. I find it hard to come by, and that can be frustrating for someone like me who really considers it a major desire in RP. For example, if I were to compare RP to a meal, action and adventure would be my main entrees. Other forms of RP like drama, romance, comedy, slice-of-life and what ever kinds you can think of would be the sides. It would not be a meal without the needed sides, but they are not the main course I would choose. The meal example still does not do RP proper justice, I know. For instance, a single RP scene can include action, drama and comedy. No one instance of RP is limited to one aspect, form or genre. But, I find the action and adventure aspects lacking for me. I can't really justify my preferences. I like what I like. RP is my escape, and it is my hobby. There is nothing I can think to say that would make someone with different preferences understand, nor would I want to change the preferences of others. I am more curious as to what everyone else seems to get and prefer.

Sounds like my character when she first set out a year ago. Those were fun times. She met another friend who was also culture-shocked, and they are still friends to this day. I offer for you to send me a tell (Kiht Jakkya in-game) if you ever want to RP. However, my character is still a traditional Keeper in most ways (as are most in my FC), so she and her group would not be much culture shock for you. It's a long story as to why we live in the Goblet right now. If I may offer advice, be patient and be willing to play your character how she is supposed to be played. Culture-shock -will- make your character feel awkward. It is supposed to feel that way. The first player-character Kiht met in Thanalan she greeted with "Greetings Hyur female". It was totally awkward, but like I said, they are still friends to this day.

Speaking of C'kayah, I recently added a Trello "Clan Task Board" much like his Tylwyth Narah's Job Board. YES, I'M BEING A COPY CAT, but it's a good idea! It will provide open RP activity for FC members between events, and planned plot happenings. LS-only members can get involved if invited ICly by FC members.

The Summit of Free Companies (Location Set)

I would try to see if someone could take my place. That time is way too early for me. -
Hello, I would love to join your LS! My character certainly fits, and many in my FC may fit as well. I will look for you in-game.
-
I don't know why I didn't see this before, but your Aurora LS, and my FC (the Shroudwolf Clan) have a lot in common. If you are still active, I would love to set up some joint RP if you are interested.

Banned for changing his name too often like a wacko.
-
Edit: Damnit, T'caska beat me to Crofte right when I had a good banning post for her. So, T'caska is banned for three days!

ICE Kiht has a duality to her that I like to call an aspect of Halone mixed with an equal aspect of Menphina. Like a coin that has Halone on one side, and Menphina on the other. She can be cool and smooth one moment then chilling and rigid the next. It all depends on what stimuli she is faced with.
-
Good job Miah. Get it going! I look forward to seeing the FC develop.

I do this as well. The only skill Kiht has that I also have IRL is archery. However, she is a better archer as I only shoot at static targets. I have researched pole-arm combat, knife-fighting, scouting and hunting for Kiht. But I do none of those IRL. I have done no research on leather-working or woodcraft. Any other skills Kiht has, she and I learned in-game. Leadership is a good example of a skill I learned and improve upon with the help of RP and FC/LS organizing.
-
Update! I've been exchanging possibilities with some OOC, but more importantly, Kiht managed to find and inform V'aleera about the two derps Verad and Kyrael. V'aleera is confirmed for event two, part two. Unless something goes wrong before the event. Following the course of IC interactions has Kiht now seeking Crofte and Inessa.

The Summit of Free Companies (Location Set)

As a representative of the Shroudwolf Clan, I would like to try to attend as well. -
Suddenly, I am going to have a bunch of crazies come at Kiht. This should be fun. Not sure if the event means Kiht will be involved in both parts, but if I have to choose one, she would be best for the rescue (the second part). We'll have to let RP see where it goes.

OMG! Finally I am kinda, sorta, partially on someone's list! Thank you Askier-senpai. I think you'd like the new FC's members.

What scares you away from a FC/Guild?
Knight Kat replied to Branson Thorne's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I had the same wonder/concern, Kiht, but after I reviewed it with others, I think the idea being presented is more an aversion to the "egocult" that stems from one person having too much IC + OoC power. But Verad also mentioned that while this is a tendency he's seen often, it isn't universally true. There're just some bad eggs out there who have made an unfortunate stereotype of running things both IC and OoC for their own benefit, as opposed to the benefit of the Guild. But I feel that in our instance, (assuming that we are similar?) we utilize the IC authority as a vehicle to bring power and entertainment to everyone else, as opposed to relegating others to the status of NPC while your character is clearly the Main Hero. I use Maia to conduct and run one RP event per week, to post IC information and bulletins on our bulletin board, to delegate tasks to others via personalized IC Moogle Mail, and to coordinate and run our monthly public event. It's a lot of OoC work, and I can't imagine another person in the LS taking up the mantle and doing all of that over a concept that isn't even their own, haha. Sometimes it even feels like she's just "leader NPC" rather than an actual character, just because I use her to instigate interesting things for others more than explore her personal whatever. On top of that, she was initially elected quite unwittingly and without any prompting from me OoCly or ICly - I was oddly surprised at the time. I could be totally off the mark, but that's what I've come to understand after some thought and discussion on my end of things. Our situations are so similar that they are nearly identical. In my FC, Kiht is really Matron NPC 90% of the time. I use her to push things along, and make RP happen. I've been doing this nearly a year, so while I still consider myself new, I have to say being an FC leader is a lot of work OOC and IC. The only satisfaction I get from it is helping to create RP. I get tired of watching plots and stories just crumble or stagnate. Kiht gets a lot more spotlight and development outside of my FC's plots and RP. So, if I didn't care about my FC and the people in it so much, I wouldn't be doing this. =============================================================== On the topic at hand, I would say the two things I wouldn't like in an FC are: 1: Isolationist RP. If they spend almost all their time in some house, and rarely interact with the community or other groups, I strongly disapprove. The community needs more interconnection. I'm constantly seeing things like Ishgard characters OOCly looking for other Ishgard characters that they can't seem to find. Really? I know of way too many Ishgard characters now. How can you not find each other?! 2: RP that is too casual all the time. I understand that tavern and tea-time RP has an important place, and I do enjoy it. However, I play FF14 for the -adventure-. The main group talked about so much in this game are "Adventurers". Why are there not that many adventure plots? I crave this like a madly starved person. An FC that doesn't do it would have to RP out a funeral for Kiht since she would die of boredom. There is a reason I made her a scout. -
What scares you away from a FC/Guild?
Knight Kat replied to Branson Thorne's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
So, this following question is not only aimed at Verad, but anyone who also shares this opinion. I ask because this legitimately concerns me. How does one truly run an FC where the OOC leader's character is not the IC leader? Or, where the IC leading character has no OOC authority? Maybe I misunderstood here, but I am thinking about this, and I can't see an answer. For example, if I am an OOC leader, and Kiht is not IC leader, I will still have to closely coordinate and manage with whoever is the IC leader. This will give the person who plays the IC leader a sort of position of authority on an OOC level as well. How can the two be separated in a way that make the FC still function? How my FC is currently run is Kiht and Khloe co-lead the FC together. But we are also co-leaders on an OOC level. In the instance we ever dead-lock on a decision, we would bring in a senior member as a tie-breaker, or call for an FC vote. It has worked well so far, but the FC is just over two months old, and still small. -
Am I good or what? *dusts off hands* Next I'll introduce SZ (Reilan) to Yvelont, and Sounsyy to Roen. Line up peoples!

We need to like, make an RPC Meet-up RP event or something. Kiht has met the characters of many people who have posted here at least once. However, many I would love to RP with again.
