*Gets surprise crushhug from Roegadyn woman* *passes out before "Happy Holidays" can be said back*

Oooooo can I do the Twelveswood? Starting as if coming from Thanalan. South Shroud: Right off the bat, Coeurlclaw Poachers that occupy the old airship landing pad. Camp Tranquil? More like Camp Thisisabadplaceforacamp. Watch out for the ruins with all the Deepvoid Deathmice... Yay, more Poachers, but they invited their Goblin bomber friends and the Redbelly Wasp Bandits. Is Buscarron's safe? If you don't mind bar fights. Quarrymill is safe, but in order to make it so they built it like a fort. Central Shroud: Safest region in the Shroud if you watch out for Diremite ambushes along the roads. Don't go up Matron's Lethe... Just don't. Also the ruins... Well, creepy ruins are never safe no matter where you are. East Shroud: Make sure to visit the Sanctum of the Twelve! Don't mind the hostile boars the size of Rhinos. Hawthorne Hut is safe, but when you leave you get your choice of huge hostile vilekin or Raptor Poachers. Past Little Solace is just pure Greenwrath, and Garleans who really regret their jobs. If you go to the Southern part of the region you get a nice view of a Garlean Castrum as Gull Knats nom on your skull. West Shroud: ROFL JK, it went boom. North Shroud: It seems mostly safe until you get to the part with the Ixal. Just stay on the road to Hyrstmill, and all you have to worry about is Opo-opos throwing things at you. However, heading to Fallgourd Float is a nightmare. Giant scorpions. Yes, I know they are called Banemites, but they are not mites. They are Giant purple scorpions the size of your cottage. There is even a Wood Wailer near the bridge that leads to the path to Fallgourd, and he basically says "Go dis way and u die." Yet, they put a tavern and inn in Fallgourd Float, and somehow expect/get business?? Leaving the Float on a Westward path is asking to be blown up and crushed then eaten by a Ziz.

The Screenshot Thread [Tag Your Spoilers]
Knight Kat replied to Zyrusticae's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Templar: "No outsiders may pass the Gate of Judgement. Be gone, or I shal-... Where are you going?" *slips through the opening between the bars.* Templar: "A Miqo'te just slipped through that gate! Fury take me!" Moral of the story: Ishgard gate builders did not plan for bold little people. This did not happen ICly. I was just bored, and came up with that scenario when I noticed the many FLAWS in the Gate of Judgement. -
Poll: Au Ra and your character, what will you do?
Knight Kat replied to Blue's topic in RP Discussion
My main is Kiht Jakkya (Keepers of the Moon 4 lyfe). She will remain my main, and is going nowhere. I -will- make an Au Ra alt. Whether it is an alt I actually play, only time will tell. -
Elsewhere. It was a quiet night in Eastern Thanalan. A gentle breeze blew, and like any night in an arid climate, it was a comfortable cool temperature. A lone Aldgoat had sleepily wandered too far from its group, and was having a midnight graze. It was a large Billy. Usually there was little to threaten him that time of night. An arrow suddenly flew into its neck at the base of its skull. The Aldgoat barely had enough time to let out a moo of protest before it fell to the ground in a heap. Everything remained silent for a few moments before a figure came creeping through the brush towards the kill. Kiht Jakkya surveyed her handiwork. Her skill with the short bow had much improved, and hunting in Thanalan almost required it. Things were so much more open, and moving silently took a whole different method. However, after three weeks in Thanalan with her new group, the 'Shroudwolf Clan', Kiht was getting accustomed to hunting in, and dealing with the climate she was not fond of. While Kiht knew of many places a group could hide in the Black Shroud, she and her kin needed long-term livelihoods. Her one benevolent business contact was Verad Bellveil, and he lived in the Goblet. They had been supporting his business, and reaping benefits from it. Kiht craved so much to be back in her homeland, but until her group could afford a home for themselves in the Twelveswood, Verad's estate would be their base. Kiht's thoughts began to wander about the people she knew in Thanalan, and how she suddenly lived much closer to them. The recent leve she had done on Verad's behalf had a surprise helper. Osric Melkire from the Red Wings. It was odd, he seemed preoccupied at the end of the leve. Despite the implications of the discovery made during the leve, Osric gave little reaction like he had something else on his mind. It made Kiht wonder how the Red Wings were doing...

Trying to think of the last time I RPed with a Roegadyn character... Trying to think of the last time I RPed with a Lalafell character... I RP with Hyur, Elezen and Miqo'te characters all the time. This is not because I, or my character dislike Roes and Lalas. The Roegadyns are a beautiful race in their own right. They have rich lore, and the Seawolves have a dictionary for their own language! The Lalafell are just unique (kinda). I love them. People don't tend to play them that often as characters. I am sure people have their reasons, but I think SE looks at the races and number of characters, and thought "What would a new race that appeals to the majority look like?". They have plenty of pretty races, so I think maybe they should have made a beastly/alien type one. However, would such a new race bring people back to the game, or new people in? I don't know, but what I do know is that I think they are actually neat-looking. Yes, I can understand why some are irked at the sexual dimorphism. SE loves their sexually dimorphic armor sets, emotes, races and trinkets. I can understand why people were hoping for something more unique. I am mostly just glad they will likely reduce the Miqo'te character population. Yes, my main is a Miqo'te, but GDI there are too many of us around!

Kiht Jakkya had her face pressed to the package as her nose sniffed the thing over and over again. Something good was inside it. She slowly opened the package as her mouth began to water. Her eyes widened a bit as she grew a joyous smile. The memory came back to her. The sun when Roen was still a mercenary. It was the first time Kiht had acted so motherly towards someone. Roen had been rather weak and undernourished that day; likely from hard, underpaid mercenary work. She remembered Roen eating apples while at the Grindstone. "You need to eat more meat." Kiht said as she repeated her statement from her memory. She knew apples were a healthy food, but a hard working huntress needed more meat in her diet. At least, that was where Kiht's mind had gone. Roen had made a jest about Kiht acting like a Matron. How amusingly ironic that Kiht was actually holding that title now. After all the lecturing, Kiht ended up being the one who ate most of Roen's jerky. She had been so focused on helping Roen that she had forgotten how much her scouting in Thanalan had drained her. When Roen said the meat was too salty, and offered it to Kiht, she had taken it off Roen's hands. Roen may not have known then, and still may not know now, that gifting food is a huge compliment in Kiht's culture. The simple gift of dried meats was one of the best gifts Roen could have gotten her. Kiht's eyes moistened as she bit her lower lip. She forced the tears to stay where they were with a strong sniffle. "Menphina, bring this woman under your gaze, and please bless her with some happiness for at least one dusk." Kiht muttered silently in prayer. Kiht eyed the various dried meats fondly. She was already planning how she would ration them, and hide them from the others. It was a season of giving, but Kiht would not share these. These pieces of dried meats were a special reminder of simpler times.

OMFG you're Alienne?! I would use the words: Awesomely Dumb.

I am guilty of some of the things you are Melodia/Ruru. I have people I use to RP with a lot more, and now hardly do at all because RP has taken me elsewhere in our open world. Yes, this is the internet, and yes the person is a /tell away, but it isn't about the ability to communicate. It is the fact that sometimes people's paths diverge, and sure I could send them a tell, but I am doing my things and they are doing their things. Our stories don't always converge. Life paths do not always cross, or remain parallel. For example, there is one who I have RPed with from the very beginning, and I love to RP with her. However, her character's story does not often cross with my character's story. The only time we RP is when we do manage to find time, and send tells to each other to arrange a meeting. The whole "Hey, haven't said a word to you in three months, but wanna RP?" can be a bit awkward, but I do not take our lack of frequent contact personally, and I hope she does not either. To me, it is just life; regardless of internet. Since starting RP, I have made more friends and acquaintances than I can handle. I wish I can multiply myself to frequently RP and stay in contact with them all. I offer my apologies as well for any I have not kept in contact with. It is not personal. There are plenty who I would love to RP with, but can not get around to doing it often. There are those I had made plans with that never came to fruition. I apologize, but I have not forgotten. Kiht still has: An prior student to help become a Dragoon (even if she has no idea how now). A couple old friends to catch up with. An old mentor to congratulate for his recent engagement. A loyal ally to question about his strange power he displayed. A cousin to update. A few pains in the arse to visit. An investigation to conduct. A group of spies to aid. A few allies to make plans with. A hook to make to pull someone into a plot. I could use a few Kiht clones right about now... Maybe even some clones of my real self. TL;DR: I am guilty of some of those things too, and I apologize as well. It is not personal, and I have not forgotten. So, your situation is not unusual, and you are certainly not a bad person, Melodia.

I just wanted to say thank you for this ^ That is what I have been wanting to say since I started reading this thread. I just could not think of the words for it. That is very well said. In response to the OP's question, Kiht would not qualify. She would -almost- qualify, but Kiht is more like Gladiator Bill in Berrod's example. This is probably a good thing since Kiht is only five feet tall and lean (She's Miqo'te). She's primarily a Lancer, but knows knife/dagger combat (but not a Rogue) and archery. Is she that special? I have never thought so. I had always thought it was not that uncommon for adventurers to use aether. Kiht uses it to give her short boosts. She can jump a bit higher than average, muster up a bit more strength than her size and muscle mass should naturally allow. She can only do so for short periods. Could she use aether to win an arm-wrestling match against a Roegadyn? No, but it might help her not loose instantly. Can she jump like a Dragoon? Certainly not. Do I think Kiht would win against a Gladiator Bob type character? No more of a chance than she would against a Gladiator Bill type character. There are -many- factors in combat, and the ability to use some flashy aether tricks/boosts is just one thing. If Kiht ever did battle with a PC that does not have aether abilities, I would still give them the same consideration I would to a PC who does. To compare, there is a character who's player does not frequent these forums. His name is Rinh'li, and his character can -not- use aether. Yet, in battle scenes his combat emotes are often "flashier" than mine!

If Your Character Starred in Their Own Videogame
Knight Kat replied to Steel Wolf's topic in RP Discussion
Game Title: Lost Tail Game Type: Cinematic action suspense thriller. Much like the latest Tomb Raider game. Would have elements of an theatrical RPG like the Mass Effect and Dragon Age games. Platform: PC and new gen consoles. Plot Summary: Kiht Jakkya gets captured by Ixal in the Twelveswood while attempting to save some "silly" outsiders from said group of Ixal. She and the captives are taken on an Ixal airship that sets course to Xelphatol(sp?). Kiht gets free, and overcomes the small crew. However, she has no idea how to operate the "Gods damned" airship. She sets it off course and it lands (she causes it to crash) in Ala Mhigo! She must struggle to adapt and survive in an unfamiliar land behind enemy lines. She will meet allies and enemies. The player's choices influence parts of the story and outcome with three alignments (Kiht alignments): Noble(morally light), quirky(morally neutral) and Savage(morally dark). Will the lost Keeper of the Moon survive in Garlean-occupied territory, and find her way home? Game-play: Players can choose to unlock skills and weapons based on three classes: Hunter, Scout and Knight. Enemies: Garleans, Magitek, native creatures, terrorists, assassins, ect. Choices influence story path. Will Kiht side with Ala Mhigans who still fight against Garlean occupation by going so far as to resort to terrorism? Will she side with the sympathizers who are simply trying to live their lives as best they can under the Empire's rule? Will she refuse to choose sides and struggle on her own? Note: I came up with this idea on the fly, and have no idea if it is lore friendly, but it is -just- a game concept. Do not take anything in this as accurate lore or actual parts of Kiht's back-story. I verified none of it. -
Dravanian Language Dictionary, Translation or Generator?
Knight Kat replied to Knight Kat's topic in RP Discussion
The only thing I found was this: The next part is sung in dragonspeak: Dys an sohm in Rhos an kyn Sah djahs afah an Mah morn narr Which translates into: our slumber disturbed my brothers wake vengence will be ours the saviors must perish http://gamerescape.com/2014/10/21/heavensward-everything-we-know/ However, the problem is that some of the Dravanian lines have four words while the English translation of that line is three words. "Dys an sohm in" = "our slumber disturbed". That is the problem. At least it gives us an idea of what the language sounds like. -
So the Hevensward trailer shows that the Dravanians have their own language, and that the lore and localization team have made part of it translatable. I am not sure how all that works, but I figure they must have a dictionary or something for it. Did anyone happen to see or hear anything more about it? My own internet search did not turn up much.

Your Toon, in miniature, on the Tabletop - Heroforge!
Knight Kat replied to Telluride's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Can't... Do... Miqo'te... -
Kiht Jakkya's ceremonial colors are her family colors. Light icy blues and darker amber yellows. The blues represents ice which is Menphina's element. The yellow represents amber which is the lifeblood of the trees in the forest. People don't see her wearing these colors often because they make her stand out like a sore thumb. Kiht's personal favorites are dark greens and black. Deepwood green and black helps blend with the Black Shroud; especially, at night.
-
^ This is my take on it too. Also, some of this has already been stated, but there are many other ways to detect people. Scent (Especially for Miqo'te). Footprints, or effects of feet on the terrain. The invisible body obstructing the breeze/wind. Sounds of breathing, and/or movement; such as clothes, or feet meeting the ground (Especially for Elezen). These would be minimized at a distance, but when the invisible person gets close, it gets easier for things to get noticed. Another thing is, if a character can detect aether, and the stealth ability uses aether, they should be able to detect the aether-stealthed person. Then again, I am not familiar with lore on aether detection.

Oroban beat me to it, but there is no doubt in my mind that this animal applies to Kiht well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peregrine_falcon Kiht is small, but she is a skilled hunter. Insightful, fast, focused, serious and adventurous. The Peregrine Falcon is a species where the females are larger. This may not be true of Keepers of the Moon, but Kiht holds to the Matriarchal mind-set. In her mind, she is bigger

"Digging in the Dirt" Connection Cross Post
Knight Kat replied to Yssen's topic in Chronicled Connections
I talked to Yssen, and after further consideration, I am rejoining this. I apologize for the run-around everyone. Kiht has been very busy with FC stuff, and I thought there would be no end anytime soon. Well, things have slowed down a bit and will be slowing down much more soon. With Yssen's approval, I am back in on this. -
The Lover's Warden (seeker and keeper event)
Knight Kat replied to James Rhymes's topic in Chronicled Events
*FACEDESK* Do you know how many characters I brought to the "first event" at 2pm PST? Roughly 10 characters from the CLAN FC alone plus roughly 7 to 10 visitors arrived from other groups. The bright side is we made the best of it, and it was nice RP. However, I hope you do something like this again in the future because I, and many others, were really looking forward to the actual event. If you need help planning another in the near future, let me know. I would be happy to help. -
Uh.... I used a FF14 name generator, saw the forename "Kiht", wrote it down, generated a few more names, saw the surname "Jakkya", wrote it down and put them together because I thought the name was not only cool-looking, but also fit the character concept with its crackly, energetic sound... End of epic name-choosing story.

The Lover's Warden (seeker and keeper event)
Knight Kat replied to James Rhymes's topic in Chronicled Events
I'm definitely going, and bringing some peeps. -
Hello peoples! Does anyone know if there are slavers or slavery mentioned in the lore? If so, is any of it legal? How common might it be? Any evidence of what races are targeted more than others (if any)? The reason I ask is that I have a long-term plot in mind for my character that involves Slavers and Slavery, and I would like to abide by whatever lore there is.
