  1. Kiht narrowed her eyes at the Lalafell. He was trying to goad her and swive with her (likely literally) despite the fact that both Clio and Siha were there to keep him occupied. She was not good with acting, but she was not stupid either. He was either trying to sabotage the situation, or found it entertaining to mess with Kiht. Kiht was not usually keen on recognizing when she was being flirted with, but she was getting better at that. However, her discipline was trained into her through a lifetime of hunting; it was only strengthened by the training from an ex-knight. She sat up straight, and just continued to gaze at him with a cold stare. "You are correct, but if you wish, I can find some barbed wire for you to entangle with." She said in a calm tone. She causally averted her eyes, and grew a very slight smirk. Tempest was doing the best job of talking to the Captain. If anyone was going to have success with him, it would be her and Siha. Kiht was maintaining her attitude. It was probably not a good idea to irritate the Captain, but Kiht was starting to get more acquainted with her role. If Tempest needed to, she could possibly take advantage of Kiht's attitude to gain favor with the Captain. Kiht may not have liked her job or role in the whole operation, but she was Hells bent on helping; even if that meant Tempest either asking Kiht to leave, or taking the captain away from Kiht and the guards as a sign of respect and trust. Otherwise, Kiht could do little more than watch the scene continue to unfold.
  2. LOL Except for maybe one person who's back-story on it I have not confirmed, I do not know -anyone- who has done this. Getting pregnant with aether? Like some kind of immaculate conception? No. I would hope no one does that because there is nothing in the lore to suggest it is possible. However, it should be noted that if someone wants to get their character pregnant, they can just use an NPC sire in their back-story. I mean, why not? When someone has an NPC infant I don't OOCly jump on them, and interrogate them on how they made the child.
  3. IMHO this is a very good way to go about ears/tail emotes, and pretty much exactly how I go about it with my character. That is also a good concept for the tribal culture. The lore talks about how traditional Miqo'te breed, but doesn't touch on the sexuality aspect of it. I see nothing that dictates what Miqo'te are normally attracted to in a partner; only that when it comes time to make the next generation, there are few males and many females. From there, we can only hypothesize about their average sexuality. With my character, very few would even see much about her sexuality. She doesn't advertise it, nor does she talk about it unless it is with close friends who ask. She's a hunter, a scout, a fighter, a leader. She is very busy, and doesn't have much time for anything else.
  4. I don't understand the point of stating that a thread is invalid, or not getting anywhere. There have been quite a few threads lately that almost derailed into debates about Miqo'te. This thread -needed- to be made, and I give Warren kudos for starting it. I have only been in this community for a year, but I feel like I am looking at a third generation of Balmung RPers. Seriously, I know some of you, but some of you other people... Who are you!? Sometimes topics once talked about, even in great detail, should be brought up again when there is a new group of people to chime in and benefit. As always, if someone doesn't like the thread then they should ignore it. Let everyone who wants to participate in the discussion do so. If we are wasting time, it is our time to waste.
  5. Yes, please, this. But it's like most people can't help it. Especially with IC romantic relationships. I have no problem with Miqo'te characters, or any other characters looking negatively upon traditional Miqo'te culture. However, like it or not, the lower birth rate of male Miqo'te -does- change things. You can't sustain a species (race, whatever) on long-term pair bonding when males are so few due to natural birth rate. A character can scoff at and insult a promiscuous or polyamorous Miqo'te all they want. My character will see the one being regarded negatively as doing what is best for their race. However, IRL, I am not promiscuous, nor do I practice polyamory. The latter still not being regarded in a negative way IRL though. Yes, this too. If anyone wants to see some Miqo'te who try to maintain culture and Miqo'te tendencies, come RP with my FC. I can also make a list of all the "serious" Miqo'te player characters I know (both traditional and non-traditional) if this generalizing keeps up.
  6. I play a Miqo'te. I play around A LOT of other Miqo'te. I think the problem IMHO is that it's harder to see those Miqo'te who play to be Miqo'te when you have them mixed in with the many who don't do so in a place like Ul'dah's Quicksand. I can tell you that I meet lots of Miqo'te who act like Miqo'te. They kinda have to be dug out, but there are many. I agree with many of your points though. The question of how much beast is in Miqo'te isn't entirely answered in-game. Or maybe it is, but it is not so specific or defining. For example, take IRL humans. We are literally the most dangerous animals on this planet. We can be the meanest, most savage and brutal creatures. We chase lions, hunt elephants, kill sharks and whales. We are the apex predators of our world because we are mean enough, bold enough and smart enough to face any creature (under the right circumstances with the right tools). However, we are also more capable of charity and kindness than what you see from most animals in nature. We will spare something if we pity or feel sympathy for it. We care for animals that are not our own kind. You have humans in this day and age who hunt animals with bows while you have the people who wear fancy suits every day to their "civilized" job. This world has "savage" humans and "civilized" humans. I see it as possibly being no different for Miqo'te. Based on NPCs, I see savage Miqo'te and civilized Miqo'te. I see some NPCs act more cat-like while others don't show as much cat-like tendency. If you go back far enough in history, I think it would be found that all the races in Eorzea probably lived in tribal societies at some point. It is just so note-worthy for Miqo'te because at least -some- groups still live in tribal societies in modern Eorzea. It is mentioned in the character creation lore, and referenced a few times in-game. TL;DR: To me, I see a place where both tribal and urban Miqo'te exist. A place where both feral hunters (Pawah Mujuuk) and civilized Miqos (Y'shtola) exist. I think people are right and entitled to play either and anything in between as long as they acknowledge that their interpretation may not be fact, and that the lore for both types of Miqo'te -is- there.
  7. Anime Name: Astral Moon: The Silver Wolves Main Character(s): Kiht Jakkya and the members of the "Shroudwolf Clan" FC. Type of Anime (Demographic, Genre, etc): Action, Adventure, Fantasy. Opening Theme: Opening Theme would be something like the clash of metal and Celtic music used in Fairy Tail. Below is an example. [video=youtube] Ending Theme: Ending Theme would be more dramatic slower-paced Celtic music. Example below. [video=youtube] Main Villains (If your anime has any): The anime would have villains/antagonists, but each arc would likely have different villains/antagonists. Premise: Kiht Jakkya and her small group of Miqo'te all come from different backgrounds, and have survived different hardships. One thing they have in common is a desire to build a small unified community and culture then thrive in the Seventh Astral Era. Forced to live outside of their home, they fight to overcome their past, and do adventurer's work in hopes of one day returning to life in their home, the Twelveswood. However, it is not so easy. Kiht herself must free some of her family from slavery before she can rest, and many others in the group have "demons" from their past they must turn and face before they can move into a new future. Other Info (if any): The graphics and visuals would hold true to Final Fantasy 14, but the story style would be very much like Hunter X Hunter. A cast of important characters with various goals, but a unified cause. For example, the show would not be afraid to show comedy and light-hearted moments, but it would also show dark, graphic and dramatic scenes as well with no shame. The action/combat and physics would be more on the level of Prince Mononoke. For instance, characters would -not- fight like in a shounen anime where anything can be achieved with the power of friendship and will (and obvious plot armor). Like the two animes referenced, the characters would -not- just overpower everything. They would need to work towards their goals, and would not always succeed.
  8. Ok, so, hello! There are some things that I can tell you that might help you decide stuff. Firstly, don't fret too much about tribe. Choose one that sounds most cool to you, and fits the background you want. Being from the Drake tribe for example will not effect your connections more that being from the Eft tribe (or any other tribe). Unless, of course, you join a group of players who RP together as part of the same exact tribal group. However, there are not too many of those. Secondly, just want to make sure you know there is no evidence to say there are tribes -in- Ul'dah. The Drake tribe is in Forgotten Springs, Southern Thanalan, not the city of Ul'dah. Thirdly, there is RP in Gridania and the Twevleswood, but it is not always easy to find. My FC is a group of Miqo'te (mostly Keepers) who are trying to make some semblance of a unified culture in the new era. We are from the Twelveswood, and wish to return home one day ICly, but live in the Goblet with another FC right now. That is an example of how RP has taken us down an unexpected path. If I may offer you advise based on my own experiences. Feel free to take or leave any of it. *Make a vague background with plenty of room to add things as you go, and adjust things later. *Give your character a reason to be anywhere. *Don't limit yourself to only Miqo'te connections. That can be fun, but it can also be fun being a Miqo'te around those who are not. *Don't have your character share too much of her past until you are sure it is something you won't want to change (or have to change) later. Examples of what I did with my character: *She was from a Keeper group in the Twelveswood. *Her family was one of the two families in the group. *Calamity weakened and reduced the Shroud, so the group needed to branch out and learn more about other lands and resources. *They sent scouts into the rest of Eorzea, and my character was one of them. *Eventually I came up with a reason for them to disband so I could have my character join a FC of Moon-keepers. *My character's story is now overlapping and linked with the stories of many other Miqo'te and non-Miqo'te characters. Now I have put great detail and complexity into her back-story and origin. I added to it as I went. I never changed the core of it, but had to learn what worked lore-wise and make it fit with on-going story with other characters. I must admit that I have been crafting her past as I have been discovering her future. However, it worked out well because you just never know where you might want to add something to the past that can tweak opportunities in the future. Yes, I went a bit nuts with this post. You will find that I do that. Welcome to the RPC...
  9. Kiht crossed her arms. It was about time. She removed her Immortal Flames hat then threw it to the ground. She felt relieved that she no longer had to play games with the Lalafell. When Siha came out, and offered her reasoning. Kiht nodded in agreement. "That is exactly what I was trying to tell him." She paused and rolled her shoulders. "However, we will be fortunate if this Captain can see a good opportunity when it is staring him in the face." Kiht said loud enough for Distractin' to possibly hear. It was insulting, and she knew it, but it was her final attempt at reverse psychology. She would lean back in her chair, and glower at the Captain as he talked to Clio and Siha. Once again it was time to listen as they plotted, planned and schemed. Now she was starting to understand how the Red Wings functioned. They play the games the people they fight play. They follow the villains into the mud and wrestle with them. They fight fire with fire, and dirt with dirt. It was not a game Kiht was fond of, but she was glad someone would do it.
  10. I've seen a vid about him before, but not in this detail. This is great. Kinda makes the archery I've practiced IRL look silly... >_>
  11. Kiht's Dance Workout! Get the body you want with one 30 tick work-out a dusk for five Fortnights or your gil back! Nuxh! Let us Goon together! I -will- hunt you, I -will- find you and you -will- want me to. Roen: "Delial asked me for a favor." Kiht: "Did you shank her instead?" I'm tempted to come at her in this get-up again, but I'll be nice
  12. Kiht wasn't a good actor. Deception was never her strength. She felt she had accomplished what she wanted though. The Captain Distractin's pride made him reveal that he did indeed have his crew there, and that he knew about at least one other put in place by The Red Wings. Kiht resisted the urge to smirk at this. She may have been out of her element with the scene, but the situation breaking into a possible fight did not scare her, for that would be her very element. That fact made it so her confidence did not waver. Her body returned to an upright position as the Captain began to respond to the contents of the letter. Contents Kiht did not read before Clio sealed it, and put it in the coat. Hopefully Clio was listening carefully. What the Captain knew, and what he revealed was important. Kiht's ears twitched at being called a 'Flame Kitten' again. She would show him a Flame Kitten! Her gaze averted for a moment as she made a quick glance to another part of the tavern. She then looked back to the Captain with an unwavering neutral expression. Kiht was perfectly calm now, and it showed. "I was not made privy to the contents of the letter, or what you did wrong. You see, the higher-ranking officers want to keep most of us ignorant. My orders were to deliver the letter then collect the amount of gil you were payed for a job you swived up on." She said in a professional, but stern, tone. Tempest hadn't really given Kiht more information than that, so she felt her answer was the only one she could give. Kiht leaned back in her chair then moved her hands to her lap. She let out a bored sigh which was intentional. She wasn't truly letting her guard down. The captain's little switchblade was adorable compared to her mythril hunting knife she had in her coat, but she would not underestimate pirates. "You sound unconcerned about your enemies Captain, but would it not be better to have a couple less, and still be standing in a position of power?" She paused for a moment and inclined her head slightly. "I am sure you and your crew are capable, but how many foes can you handle really? You should pay your dues, Captain."
  13. Fern tells us why there is a difference between the Japanese and English translations, and more about Dragon language here. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/215647 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
  14. Woo! We got a little more lore of Dravanian language now. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/215647
  15. Kiht 's face reverted to a straight expression when Captain Disturbin' Distractin' answered her question with the same kind of question. She resisted the urge to sigh. It seemed the Lalafell wanted to play more. Right when she thought of what her answer might be, she felt a hand rest on her shoulder. It was Tempest with her aether invisibility. An impressive trick. Kiht inclined her head as she regarded the Captain; suddenly feeling more bold. "They are likely at Bronze Lake... Drinking Pineapple juice, and other things..." She answered in a tone that made such a thing sound perfectly normal. "Tell me Captain, is it not unwise to travel without your crew? I myself brought two people despite having the status as a member of a Grand Company to afford me protection. But you are a privateer, are you not? I know such things are legal in Limsa, but you must have enemies, do you not? " She asked in a calm tone, but it was clear she was about to try and make a point. Kiht was starting to catch on to what she saw as someone trying to impress her. If the captain was a performer then he would like positive attention from his audience. It was time to appeal to his pride... Or threaten it. "Tis not an impressive way of doing things; meeting us alone in a tavern... Mayhaps the rest of my squad you asked about are actually here. Mayhaps they are waiting for you to make one wrong move in your performance." Kiht stated in a calm tone then leaned towards the Captain a bit more. Her eyes would try to meet with his as her expression grew into a mild smirk. She was clearly gaining confidence. "Mayhaps you should open that letter to find out why I am here..." She said in a quiet voice that bore a more serious tone.
  16. Kiht had been thankful for the Pineapple juice. She was no longer in a mood that made her take Youkio's playfulness the wrong way. Her favorite drink had put her mind at ease. Deception was not her strong suit, so she needed all the ease she could get before putting on the act. The task was at hand soon enough. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Immortal Flame, Immortal Flame. I am an Immortal Flame." Kiht repeated over and over again in her mind. She had to try and act like a member of the Ul'dahn Grand Company when she had never even made a good member of the Gridanian Grand Company. Her second attempt as being a Twin Adder did not last long, but now she had to act like a Flame. She kept thinking of all the Immortal Flames she had known, and was trying to think about how to emulate their attitudes. Kiht neared the bar with her over-sized companions. Her ears perked as they talked at her. A Roegadyn and a Duskwight? Were they -trying- to make her look small in this little plan. She wondered to herself. However, their words were kind, and it somewhat reassured her. "My gratitude." She said sincerely, but her tone was serious. Kiht was not worried about danger. She did not have her spear, but her hunting knife was hidden under her uniform. She could fight better than some might expect with that. What she was worried about was ruining the plan. She took a deep breath, and steeled herself before entering the bar with them. When she approached the odd-looking Lalafell at the table, the act was on! The Lalafell made a creepy smile at her, but she maintained a serious and professional expression. It was not hard under the circumstances. She almost scowled when he called her a 'Flame Kitten', but she mostly resisted, and the Lalafell would only see her ears and lips twitch. However, before she could even respond to him, he offered them a seat. She remembered Kahn'a doing a Flame salute to her once, so she mimicked the gesture at the Captain before taking a seat. Standard military gestures were important. That is what she remembered from the Adders. "Greetings Captain." She said in a neutral tone. "I am Ki-." She paused; almost saying her real damned name. "hm... Kihm Jakk... Son... Lieutenant Kihm Jackson." She said in her serious tone, but the pauses made it a bit awkward. Shite, she thought. She needed to refocus. She took a deep breath, interlocked her fingers together and placed them on the table. "I bear a message for you." She stated as she surveyed the bar area. She then reached into the coat pocket on the uniform, and drew out the sealed letter. She tossed it on the table, so that it slid towards the Lalafell. "Is your crew here... Captain?" She asked as she looked back at the Lalafell, and forced a wide, awkward grin that displayed her sharp Keeper canines.
  17. [video=youtube] This fits symbolically in so many ways for Kiht right now...
  18. Delial plotting wicked deeds no doubt... Shanking her while she is AFK would be god-mode right?... Damn. She lives to terrorize small children another day.
  19. Kiht decided she was going to enjoy the vacation. She moved to just outside the shack. She began spinning and twirling her spear around in elaborate dance-like drills. Of course, she was only in her shirt and pants still. There was no need for armor. Kiht had nothing to do while they discussed her fate as a decoy... Fun times. She could have talked to the others, but did not want to distract them from their work. Suddenly, she got a craving. Her drills came to an abrupt stop. "Hmmm pineapple juice. I think I will have some." She muttered quietly to herself. After all, what kind of vacation at a shack in La Noscea would it be without pineapple juice? She thought to herself. Kiht paced back into the shack. She gazed around one of the rooms, and that was when Siha returned. Kiht followed Siha into the other room shortly after; slipping in quietly. Kiht was just in time to overhear Youkio and Clio's exchange about his 'dumbassed ideas'. "Indeed, I would prefer to avoid death. I like you all, but I am not sure if I like you all to -that- extent." She announced to them with a hint of implied humor in her tone. She waited until someone's attention fell on her. "Where do you keep the pineapple juice?" She asked; assuming they even had that in the shack.
  20. Nice find C! They do very much seem to know what they are doing. Also, I have been taking a closer look at the wushu spear styles. When demonstrated it just seems more like a staff style than a spear or pole-arm style. However, I watched this video that has me thinking. [video=youtube] This is choreographed fighting, but I see elements of practicality in there. I am also keen on the fact that the performers are seemingly smallish women. My character is small, so this fast and agile type of style might be a great fit for her. After all, no reason I can't have her use elements of both HEMA fencing and wushu in her style. The game actually has many weapons inspired from many IRL cultures. Many of the pole-arms are European in style while many of the Lancer/Dragoon abilities are wushu-like. I think this thread has helped me a lot!
  21. Okay, just for fun. Kiht Flirting 101 1: Kiht approaches attractive male, and takes a loud audible sniff of him at an uncomfortably close range; violating his personal space. "You smell good, -male-." 2: Kiht approaches male who is sitting then uses knife to cut a lock of his hair. "You have nice hair -male-. I will have some." 3: Kiht finds humorous male. "Silly -male-." Then she proceeds to threaten him with attack from a specified weapon. Notice how she uses the word "male" which points out his sex then enunciates the word to make it sound like an insult. It gets the guys every time.
  22. You think your character is cool? My character is a fucking dramatic Gnome Paladin from a bustling city who is afraid the rest of the party will kill them if they try to leave! Funny thing is, this is totally doable in FF14.
  23. Most of the stuff I use for Kiht, I draw from the in-game style combined with the very scarce information I get from videos made by guys who practice HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts). However, most of these guys are more fond of swords and knives. There is very little material they provide about spears or pole-arms.
  24. Choice number one sounds fun. I would love to join in on that one! Unless Kiht is requested to join a different one. They all sound fun.
  25. Kiht's flirting is never intended, nor does she usually know when people are flirting with her. However, when I look back on it, most of the characters who have fallen for Kiht are ones who she has offered to help at some point. So, not surprisingly, Kiht's experience shows her that people get attracted to her when she gives them attention, and gives a damn about their troubles. What a concept huh? Random Character: "My sister is lost in Thanalan somewhere! *Boohoo sob-story*" Kiht: "I am a trained scout, so I offer my aid in helping you find your sister." Random Character: "OMG Kiht be my GF!" Kiht: o_O
