Crofte is such a shining knight of goodness. But that doesn't mean anyone should mess with her. She will stab them in their maws.

Housing: Let our voices be heard!
Knight Kat replied to Delilah Scythewood's topic in FFXIV Discussion
So yes. Housing. Must needs fix. Totes just doing this to bump the thread. -
Some of you make these lists with no context, and it makes all your characters look crazy. Kiht has killed, but only in self-defense, or the defense of others who she felt needed and deserved defense. She's never killed an unarmed foe, and never would kill someone just for an insult alone. She does not see these killings as sins. If someone was armed and ready to hurt her or someone else who she saw as undeserving of assault then Kiht thinks she has a right to respond with deadly force, and feels no guilt for doing such. Kiht has aided in the torture of an assassin who attacked her allies. She does consider that a sin, and sees it as a scar on her honor. Kiht had done nothing to prevent smuggling of a (likely illegal) toxin she knew about. But she had little knowledge of what was and wasn't illegal to put on the market at the time. Silly Kiht. She sees that as a sin of ignorance because it later caused major problems. She has aided and harbored fugitives of Ishgard and Ul'dah. But she has also aided fugitives who were after other fugitives. She just doesn't even sometimes. She has lied a few times. Kiht rarely lies because she sees doing so as sinful. Kiht has done accidental poaching. That gave her a WOODsin. According to the Gridanians, she is cleansed of that now. Yay for cleansing rituals. Kiht's sin tally: Lying (maybe three times over the course of a year) Torture (only once) Acting on ignorance (a reoccurring problem >_>) The two former she deals with by resolving to never do them again, and find some way to learn from them. The third has actually been the cause of most of her problems.

[video=youtube] For Kiht. It's a good entrance song until the 2 minute mark. That is when it slows way down for a bit then picks up again towards the end.

Wow, nothing like getting an event based on my character's actions, and being auto-signed up for it. That's awesome. And thanks Anstarra for helping me with the mess I got Kiht into!

Looking to brawl in The Quicksand!
Knight Kat replied to Branson Thorne's topic in Chronicled Connections
Kiht once walked up to C'kayah and Natalie outside the Quicksand with a trio of lancers at her back. I was still fairly new to RP, and thought it would be an interesting and fun surprise scene. It turned into a cluster(censored) of characters; some of which were doing things like comparing the fluffy tails of the Miqo'te characters, and placing fish on the heads of Kiht's companions. Natalie called the Sultansworn, that was expected. However all the 10 other random characters trying to comically push their way into the scene was not. Nothing got done, and no negotiation was had despite that being the point. I still look back on that scene fondly for its entertainment value, but from a serious RP standpoint, it got nowhere. Something like that maybe should have been set up OOC, and should have taken place elsewhere. Nowadays I think the Quicksand is more crazy. Try to have any sort of non-casual scene there and you'll get a Cluster(censored) Scene of Craycray from Hells. If that is what you are looking for, have at it. -
Celebration of The Lover - Saturday February 21th at 5:00PM Eastern
Knight Kat replied to Jancis's topic in Chronicled Events
Finally, Menphina. We will be there! Yes, -we-, as in Kiht and a buttload of Miqo'te. Please look forward to it. -
But ...but...Kiht Senpai! I can't be your Senpai because you are my Senpai! Without you...who will teach me all things Keeper?! Well that is quite the conundrum... Heh, at least we notice each other, right?

This will get to Sounsyy's head, but +1 to Lore-sensei. C'kayah is one of my RP advice senpais on this site! Askier is another! What am I doing?! Where is my life going?! *Goes to hide for a bit*

The IC/OOC boundary and how to approach it the SMILE way
Knight Kat replied to g0ne's topic in RP Discussion
To help get the thread back on track, I went back and reread a few pages. I want to put kudos and emphasis on this quote. The best way for people to not blend IC/OOC during a conflict of any kind is trust and OOC cooperation in the telling of a story. When people start trying to beat another character with their character, it becomes a contest that can end up on an OOC level. I unfortunately speak from experience. Lesson learned. -
Expectations and balancing of "master fighters/mages"
Knight Kat replied to Seriphyn's topic in RP Discussion
Just to clarify, weapons aren't blunted at the Grindstone. We keep healers on stand-by to stop people from being killed, and the only rules are no killing and no magic. There's still plenty of blood spilled, you're just not allowed to try and decapitate someone. I apologize. Maybe that is a change since I last watched the grindstone quite awhile ago, or I am remembering incorrectly because I thought it use to be that way. Regardless, it is still a controlled environment where opponents would have to hold back to prevent killing blows. In such an environment, things like strength might play a bigger factor while weapons play a little less of a factor. For example, if my character is not allowed to drive a spear into her opponent's neck, heart or skull, she has less options and opportunities to take her opponent down quickly before said opponent could use something like brute force on her. -
Expectations and balancing of "master fighters/mages"
Knight Kat replied to Seriphyn's topic in RP Discussion
I pretty much stated my thoughts on combat and expectations. However, the balancing of my character is something I didn't do in my previous post. Kiht is easy to balance. She was built to be a scrappy "underdog" type. Not someone who looses all the time, but one who is not unfamiliar with loss. Eorzea is a dangerous place, and every defeat or injury is a lesson. Kiht began training at age 11. She has been hunting and scouting since age 14. She gained a year of intense education and combat training at age 17. Since age 18 she worked with the Twin Adders for two years, did adventurer's work and fought to survive alongside her family in the Twelveswood. She is now 24 years old. Still young, but she has 10 years experience as a hunter and scout with 6 years experience in adventurer work and combat. That isn't 20 years, but it's still hefty. However, Kiht is five feet tall. She is not a great, big, strong thing. Finding reasons for her to loose is not hard, but I also don't like when some seem to OOCly discount her. I totally expect people to underestimate her ICly, but OOCly people get too fixated on strength and size. If strength and size were such major factors, humans would not be the apex predators of this planet. We use our -tools- for survival. Weapons and armor change things. One of Kiht's weapons of choice is a guisarme. It doesn't matter how big or strong a foe is if she manages to get one of the guisarme spikes into a fleshy spot. Then again, I think some of you are referring to combat in controlled environments like the Grindstone where weapons are blunted or peace-bound. When the advantage of weapon effectiveness and lethality is removed/reduced, strength and size does become a bigger factor. That is why MMA and Boxing have weight divisions. -
For Kiht's LB 3, she turns into a big muscled dude, and does this in this exact voice: [video=youtube] JK...

Expectations and balancing of "master fighters/mages"
Knight Kat replied to Seriphyn's topic in RP Discussion
This. The events I've been to where they were DMed with the Fate-14 system actually -feel- like I am playing -my- character. It brings her strengths and weaknesses to life. Now, to touch on the OP's topic here, I really do agree with it. Kale's been a soldier for 20 years? If my character ever faced yours, I personally would respect such a detail to the fullest. However, I find that there are just as many "high-fantasy" characters as there are "realistic" characters in our community. The lore supports the existence of both types. Some make their characters out to be prodigies. If their RP didn't overlap with each other, there would be no issue to discuss here, but it does. I have met plenty of characters who seem more "realistic" until I see them do more "high-fantasy" stuff all of a sudden. Also, sometimes a common story can bring these characters based on different themes together. Now, 20 years is a long time. But he is an Ul'dahn soldier. Has he been to Coerthas, Ishgard, La Noscea and Black Shroud? Has he fought for years in those different environments? Has he faced every type of beast-men? Has he often fought against every type of fighter and mage? Has every combat style and skill been used against him? Is he able to handle any foe with any weapon regardless of his armor and weapon of choice? For example, if sword and shield could be used to deal with everything then other weapons and armor would not be used. My point is, while he has an impressive amount of experience, other fighters can still likely bring skills and/or weapons to a fight with him that may be more exotic to him. These other fighters don't always need matching experience, or the ability to take advantage of his mental weakness you stated. Sometimes they just need to use something the ol' veteran has never seen before, or something he has had little experience with. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Also, just as strength is not the only factor in a fight, experience is not either. Sylas said it best. Lots of luck, tactics, tools, methods, skills, physicality, stamina, experience, state of mind and even innate talents are all factors that play a part in combat. Edit: I would like to also state that I'm not trying to minimize the effect of Kale's experience. Such a long time as a soldier does justify at least some badassery. -
The IC/OOC boundary and how to approach it the SMILE way
Knight Kat replied to g0ne's topic in RP Discussion
We have no more responsibility for our character's actions than an actor playing a character, or a writer writing a character's part. Yes what Aya says. If you play an obnoxious character and push it to cause problems, or try to break other characters up.. then say it is not you it is the character.. no dice. From another angle, RP is a cooperative endeavour in which we are all essentially co-authoring a shared story in real time. This is more about intent and responsibility to be a positive part of the shared story. And that can equally be a baddie as a goody character and action. There is an ENORMOUS wealth of difference between someone RPing with you normally and someone using RP as a vehicle to harass other people (ie. Cause problems, break people up with malicious ooc intent.) They are very very different. Harassment vIa RP is already a form of IC/OOC mixing. I agree Tiergan, the problem is, how do you recognize when someone is using RP to cause problems? The reason I ask is because people can lie, and even lie to themselves. I once had someone ICly claim that a specific type of healing was impossible at a certain speed. Their character would not let go of the issue so hard that I went into FC chat, and kindly explained that players in the FC are allowed to determine how effective and how fast healing of injuries will be for their own characters. I was not upset at the player, but I almost felt the player was trying to force their OOC opinion on healing magic through an IC scene. I said what I said just in case, and to prevent the whole debate about the effect and speed of healing magic from happening OOC (because we know what a can of worms that is). Well, that player got very upset and told me that the opinion is just "legit" for the character. Fine, I took them at their word and dropped the matter. It's just, the scene was about a plan for an upcoming mission. It wasn't even supposed to be a talk about healing injuries. I know RP is unpredictable, and that is part of the point, but the character was being disruptive. Again, once the player told me it was just IC, I had no issue, and was never mad in the first place. But I did wonder how such a debate contributed to the scene. All it did was drag it out on an issue that would find no resolution. -
The Shroudwolf Clan (SW-RP) is a Role Play Free Company based on Keeper of the Moon lore themes. Clan: a group of close-knit and interrelated families. Synonym for Clan: Sept. Born of strays, orphans and refugees, The Shroudwolf Clan is a Keeper of the Moon sept that operates a refuge and society for -all- Miqo'te; including Seekers of the Sun. While founded on the traditional Keeper ways, the Clan is adapting to a new era. Hunting, gathering, traditions and lore are still important to the culture of the Shroudwolves, but the two co-matrons and their council are building the once tiny pack of Miqo'te into a faction to be noted among all of Eorzea's Companies. This FC is currently -not- open for recruitment.

That's totally awesome, and a little bit hax. Anyone read anything in the lore about how they are made, or who can give them other than the Job Mentors from the story quests?

The IC/OOC boundary and how to approach it the SMILE way
Knight Kat replied to g0ne's topic in RP Discussion
I like the answers thus far. This is actually a good thread. It is nice to see there are still level heads in the community. So, I got another one for everyone. Most keep saying IC and OOC have to be absolutely separate. To me, that is an ideal, and as I RP more, I tend to see this supposed "rule" broken too many times. Everyone seems to strive for it, but I don't see most ever get to that point completely. I think I know why because as much as we don't want to admit it, IC actions -do- have some OOC consequences. For example, lets say some characters become an IC problem because they can no longer get along with certain other characters for whatever reasons are used to justify the conflict. In order to not make the conflict a constant focal point of an entire group's RP, one or both parties need to come to an agreement or leave. Right? Well, what if leaving becomes the only route? Sometimes, characters just can't get along. Yes, most of us are adults and should be able to discuss matters like such OOC, but what if the two parties ICly disagree, and go separate ways? That effects RP. It effects who they can RP with on those specific characters, and maybe even where they can RP with those specific characters. In Askier's example, he had to ICly leave. That means his RP on Askier became more limited to an extant. Fortunately, in his case, he seems okay with how things turned out. However, what if a player didn't OOCly want things to turn out the way they did IC? Now back to my original example in my previous post of a player who thinks their character is justified, and thinks that the effected outcome is the fault of the player who's character their character was in conflict with. Suddenly what should have stayed IC has become OOC. The whole "Your character ruined my character's chances of being in that group!" kind of thing. To me, it is best to never be OOCly dead-set on a path for your character. With Kiht, I let RP guide her. If she ends up where she wants to be, great. If she does not, I can still work with that and have fun. Kiht is the Matriarch of her own group, but sometimes I dream about her being a lone scout again. I could be happy with either case. However, I tend to see many characters set up to be too dependent on specific story elements, or even the presents of certain other characters. I often see this lead to OOC disappointment. TL;DR: I think RPers should be prepared for IC actions to lead to consequences that will influence the direction of RP; maybe even into an undesirable direction. If such does happens, other players should not be blamed for it. -
I know Kiht still has a letter to deliver, but if the letter is not relevant to event 4, I would like to join if I may.

The IC/OOC boundary and how to approach it the SMILE way
Knight Kat replied to g0ne's topic in RP Discussion
So, I hope it's not off-topic to kinda ask questions for people to respond to and think about rather than give answers. I don't think things are always so cut and dry. What happens when two characters in the same group (Group of friends or small FC) can't ICly get along for a vast majority of the time? At what point does constant conflict between specific two characters (or two parties of characters) ruin a story? For example, in the x-men moves (plz forgive this reference) Cyclops and Wolverine are rivals. In the scenes they are in, they never get along and always look like they are on the verge of fighting. Movies run on a scrip though; RP usually doesn't. What if 90% of the movie turned into Cyclops VS Wolverine with all characters on the sidelines just sighing and face-palming? Would that have made a good movie? Well, one answer I would expect is for the players to OOCly discuss it. But what if the players of the rival characters each OOCly feel their own character is justified in their IC actions and reactions? IMHO, that is when separation is in order. But what if that causes plotting and story to become overly complicated, or makes it so separation is impossible because the group all wants to do things together? Who gets left out? If one of the rivals has to be removed from the group; thus, removing them from some or all RP with the group as a whole, how do you tell a person getting removed (who thinks their character is in the right) why their character is being removed without upsetting them OOC? I have witnessed scenarios like this actually happen several times. This can actually ruin the RP progression and story of a group. An endless conflict and popularity contest may be fun for some, but most I have talked to find it not fun at all. In my RP, my character is either contributing to her own story, or the story of some other character. If my character is being a chronic disruption to another character's story, I find an IC reason to remove her from it unless asked otherwise. Even if I feel my character is in the right, I can accept that others may not agree, and be willing to make it so she is no longer a major element or problem. However, some may see this as bending a character, and I might be hard-pressed to argue with them. But I am RPing to develop a good story, and help others develop a good story. If someone feels my character is not helping with that, I am not offended to be told such. The problem is, what if I feel I have to tell someone else that? How do I do so without upsetting them, or making them think I am leaking IC into OOC? If this is too off-topic, I'll gladly make a separate thread about it. -

The Second Annual Royal Ball of Ul'dah - Update (Time Set)
Knight Kat replied to Erik Mynhier's topic in Chronicled Events
WOO! Another Ball where Kiht can arrive, somehow get more involved with Roen's story then end up not dancing for one reason or another! \o/ -
Kiht would be called a Huntress. She can fight with spear, bow and knives. The basis of all three started as means to hunt animals, but she has built upon them for battle with the help of many tutors. Her armor varies based on the situation, but she is usually in very light stuff. She almost always tries to match the colors of her gear with the colors of the environment she will be in. She sometimes calls herself a Scout, but I think scouts are a little less specific.

Kiht and Rinh'li. This is their idea of a "good time" together; Knife combat sparring.
