  1. Yeeea I think I'll be waiting a day or so before I join the Rogue swarm.
  2. Agreeing with Crow. All our characters can probably be boiled down to similar concepts, that's just how fiction works. I mean, how many of us can be distilled down to ' a really smart, bookish, magical character' or 'a tough fighter who protects the innocent' or the like? What matters is how you do it. Don't be afraid of the cliche inherently, be afraid of constantly playing to nothing BUT the cliche.
  3. Welcome back, always good to see people coming back to the game!
  4. I'm so hype for Rogue/Ninja, that was my jam in FFXI and I'm eager to make Zutoto into a tiny whirlwind of bladed death.
  5. I love Fisherman's Bottom but frankly in LL there's no real wrong answer for RP spots, everything is so fun and piratey.
  6. No we don't, there can only be one after all. Eh? Eeeeeeh? No but seriously hi and welcome!
  7. Entry...what? It's been so long, I'm sorry I haven't written. I've been...I don't even know if 'busy' is the word? I guess I start at the beginning. I got shanghai'd by pirates! Oh don't worry, it's not as grim as it sounds, it's not like I was kept naked in some cage or whatever. I was...well...just kinda forcefully approached about a job opportunity? I served with a small crew, not like I was hooking up with a bunch of Leviathan worshipers. Honestly truth be told they were a pretty nice group for pirates. Had a real clear code, ya know? No one got hurt as long as we got our loot, no attacking helpless ships, no hitting people just for fun, it was about gil, not blood. I started off as a swabby, cleaning up, working the kitchen, when they tasted my food I got promoted up to chef fast enough and...is it messed up that I was honored? I mean, pirates or not this WAS a group of men and women who near all agreed my food was good enough to headline their daily lives, that's a pretty big vote of praise isn't it? Eventually I learned new things no, and not just how to marinade a steak in rum. I learned to fight. I won't go into the whole speech, ask literally any Marauder and they'll tell it to you, but the axe really is the perfect thing to have on a ship. I used one as it was to hack hunks of meat, to break boxes and barrels open, once I even used a hand axe to mash spices up. Point is, I was familiar with an axe long before we were boarded for the first time when I was on crew. It was a brutal fight, really scary. Sea Serpents, they fight like demons, the exact opposite of how my crew worked. Plunder and loot was a secondary goal to mindless slaughter, we all knew we had to fight for our lives. I can't remember how it happened, how long it took, but one of them, this massive Sea Wolf, burst into the kitchen, his own axe bloody and...gods bigger than three of me... I don't remember the actual fight, but according to the guys I lunged at him, yelling angrily, they never saw me that worked up even when I first got press ganged...I went right for his legs, height difference you know? No reason to be dumb, I went for the knees and...yea the ankles, and as silly as that sounds, my axe was sharp, and he didn't expect it. I brought him down like a damn tree...and I'm proud of it... I don't enjoy killing, I don't enjoy fighting, but I learned to be damn good at it. It's not my favorite thing, I'd still rather sit on some dock, catch some fish, grill em, and take a nap, but now I can go hunt for myself without my magics. Don't get me wrong, I'm still damn good at magic, if anything that helped me learn my fighting. Those patterns I saw, those powers I tapped into, they only got stronger with my other training. If anything that was my biggest bit of education, I learned it's all linked, it's all part of me, everything is bound in the stars. So yea, I drifted around for a good while with them, it was a fine time, I learned a lot, saw a lot, but eventually I had to come home. I wasn't done yet, I wasn't ready to be done. I asked the captain if, next time we dock at Limsa, I could stay behind. He was a little sad to see me go, mainly because of the food I think, but he let me. I'm not officially 'out' as it were, if push came to shove and I showed up at the ship one day they'd welcome me back, but they all understood I had to do some things on my own, on dry land. So yea, now here I am, back on solid ground in more ways than one. They gave me a cool new hairstyle, nice and blue and green like the sea, and...well...a name that I've grown to like quite a lot... Anklechopper Zutoto - The Battle Chef
  8. Zutoto's totally proficient in sea shanties and can play a mean accordion.
  9. And with that she's remade. So yea, if any of you remember Zutoto Zuto, now keep an eye out for Anklechopper Zutoto, same great Lala flavor in a Marauder/piratey wrapper!
  10. Aw snap I know you! Hey there! 8-) And yea, I like being able to fish and cook and junk too much to not start in Limsa all over again I think, and it does fit the character more.
  11. Yea I'm super glad to see this place still alive, this is a great bunch of RPers. I'm thinking of kinda remaking my old main character, a Lalafel, but having her be a bit changed, so I'm a bit torn if I wanna keep her loyal to good ol Limsa as a Marauder/Arcanist like she was before (and keep easy access to fishing/cooking guilds...) or if I wanna make her wash up in the forests to be a Lancer or something else kinda fresh.
  12. Hey everyone! So I left this game a while ago, pre-housing even I think. Well long story short I've been tempted back in and, in the process of trying to revive my account I wound up totally accidentally reviving my OLD account, my pre realm-reborn one with one little alt left on it. Figured it was a sign I probably need to start fresh, huh? I'm not losing a ton, I was very casual before this. So, hello again all! I keep trying to leave and this game keeps pulling me back, I guess that's a mark in its favor considering how many MMOs I've left behind with no problem.
  13. Unlike most 'change your character' things Fantasia actually has some lore and junk around it, so I have no problem treating it as an IC thing. Now, it's also supposed to be very rare and precious so if, say, someone used it to change something small like their hair, or seemed to come back every couple months totally changed by it, it'd be kinda a 'what the hell?'
  14. I must get that outfit for Zutoto, that looks adorable and chefy!
  15. It's pretty much absurd as it is now, and like already said if the fix for personal houses is even as much as half the price of FC houses you're pricing a large chunk of people out. That said there's also a factor of people seeming to be upset they can't buy the biggest house and focusing on that. I'd honestly rather see a more even spread than them dropping the huge houses down to cheap.
  16. I could see them using Keepers to introduce Beastmaster.
  17. Isn't this a contradiction? I mean, I get that in a society of 10-50♀/1♂ ratio that there is no way that all the decision and influence will reside with the male gender, but if there is inherent influences in being male (creation a new tribe/family/leader like the U tribe/teacher and authority/passing one's name), as well having the entire society shaped around "patriarchs" (a Nunh by any other name...), couldn't they be considered Eorzea's equivalent of patriarchy? (And not the more familiar patriarchy of our world. I'm arguing from a Watsonian rather than Doylist point of view here.) A Nunh who proves worthy of respect can easily get it, but they don't respect him because he's a Nunh, they respect him for, say, hunting a major animal or something. Nunh have influence just by being breeding males, but there's not a ton they can DO with it. Like, they can say 'hey lady we're gonna bone down' and that's about it. Actual power comes from hunts and battle and all, and a tia or a female is just as allowed to participate in those. Simply due to the process of becoming a Nunh there's most likely good odds the dude breeding is also a good hunter or fighter, but it's a personal achievement rather than one of rank.
  18. There is a power imbalance, I don't think anyone is saying Seekers are egalitarian in that regard, but 'patriarchal' has a pretty set meaning. Breeding males have main rights to the kids, and that is power, but they don't have power over all, just their own kids. A Nunh has no real authority beyond what is given to him, there's no tribal law that says he has any power over his kids or women he mates with, if a Nunh does something out of line nothing stops a female Seeker from going 'uh no, that's not cool', the children are raised (seemingly) by the tribe as a whole not just by their father. Obviously a Nunh has influence, and is respected, but control isn't inherent in the position.
  19. Yea I gotta just echo the idea that you have to legit think 'what's the worst that can happen'. I mean, the absolute worst case I can imagine is for some reason the person I type words at types a mean thing back to me because I said hi in a land of magic elves and dragons and shit, and in that case I'm pretty sure that dude is the one who should go 'huh I have some shit to work out'. What usually happens is either you get ignored (either intentionally or by accident), they say "hey this is kinda a private scene actually sorry", or you get to join in and maybe make some friends. I don't really see any major risks.
  20. This seems right up Zutoto's alley, expect an app from an eager young Lalafell soon!
  21. For Zutoto she was based a decent bit off of Samwise form the Lord of the Rings books, in that she was a rather reluctant 'adventurer' and mainly knows cooking and home keeping and such, but found that those talents were important to adventurers to keep their hearts strong. She also has a pinch of Ge Xuan from Chinese history, since her view of magic is a heavily Taoist inspired one and I've always enjoyed playing mystics and inventors. My Miqo'te character was heavily based on kinda a blend of Tyrion Lannister and John Snow from, obviously, Game of Thrones. He's a 'bastard' in the sense that he's born from the two clans in a relationship that amounted to an affair, and was heavily looked down on by his family that raised him. Basically he's kinda a hybrid of the two character's outlooks on their low status in their family. He's got a heavy amount of 'fuck it then I'll get drunk and see the world' but there's also a strong side of him that wants to bring glory to his name and find a place in the world other than the family disgrace, even if it means abandoning the family he knew. He's also got a healthy amount of Zoro in him, because he's basically gonna be my excuse to write flamboyant adventurey stuff.
  22. That is completely true, I've gotten results with just an emote and all but sometimes more direct interjection was needed.
  23. I usually do the emote thing too. If I hear something interesting going on I'll most likely stop and do some "Zutoto raises a brow and pauses, looking over at (whoever)" thing and if they wanna engage that's cool, and if not no biggie. As for the bandit character I totes would stop for that, worst case scenario the other person does some annoying godmode stuff and I just go 'nah not doing this' and scoot along away.
  24. I invited that guy to my PUG and he did really great but then half through the dungeon the jerk joined some other group who wasn't even doing a dungeon at his level.
