  1. I uh...got Zutoto her chocobo... I'm so behind :cactuar:
  2. I agree there, it seems like in Ishgard if a knight barges into a church and demands a wedding, the priest will probably go 'ha ha get out of my church you dirtbag' and that's the end of that. It may not be a full on theocracy but the church is clearly in charge of things politically and socially, if a priest says no you better have a really good reason to appeal that. And yea, saying 'ok fine screw this I'll go to another nation' in response would probably lead to 'cool, we don't recognize filthy outsider marriages so have fun playing pretend I guess'. Ishgard is not a fan of the whole personal freedom thing.
  3. Yea basically there's no hard set rule about it, but it's not out of the realm of possibility that some families would, especially after living with other races so long, want to emulate the 'family names' customs by setting up their kids' names so they have matchy last names. It's entirely on the family, though, I don't think any Lalafell would think you strange to do either. Personally for me none of Zutoto's family has a shared last name, but she'd find it very cute if someone did that for their kids.
  4. Zutoto is a knife. Held one way a knife can cut vegetables, held another it can cut people. A knife doesn't have to change at all to switch between those things, but using a knife for one more than the other will change it. It starts small, subtle, but the changes grow. A cooking knife dulls, a fighting knife chips and bends. A knife used for both suffers both, and wears down faster. If you ask a knife used for both, would it resent being worn down so much, or would it be happy to experience two different worlds at once when it thought it was destined for only one? More importantly, if a knife was asked to change, could it? When it's had a taste of working as both, can it ever do just one task as well as it used to? A cooking knife can't cut as fast as others if it's been used in war, a fighter's blade can't cut as deep if it's used for culinary work. Yet, maybe what they lack in raw ability they make up for in experience and cunning, as they've been through far more trials and tribulations. There's tradition around knives, pomp and circumstance that change depending who's using it, but the attitudes are the same between everyone. The knife is the extension of the body, of the soul. Without such an attitude the knife is just metal. If this is true, then who is she to deny the duality of her soul to her knives? Maybe if they both endure such stress, neither will break under it.
  5. I'm very interested in this, I don't have a char to fit that, but I've been kicking some ideas around for other characters as the expansion gets nearer. Regardless I hope to bump into you guys in game anyway, Zutoto sees Ishgard as a fascinating oddity so she'd be eager to talk to members of a major house, even if they're not the power players.
  6. "People of America, I have stolen the recipes and business models of all your fast food chains, see ya later nerds I'mma be a millionaire back home."
  7. Yea I'd say a major part of the story is the enlightenment of the world in many areas. There's still a lot of "WE DO NOT DO SUCH THINGS" or just normal 'yea got no clue about that, weird huh' you have to overcome.
  8. I'd love to join if there's room still, ingame name is Zutoto Zuto!
  9. Well straight up magic helps development a good deal, I imagine. Like, if Gutenberg had teleportation crystals, flying ships, and a huge pool of mercenaries with magic and swords to draw on I bet books would be a lot easier to spread around, yea.
  10. Funny enough me being annoyed at how wrong the first paragraph is goes into why the second paragraph doesn't really mean anything for the education of the world as a whole. The major religions of the world did not 'keep the world ignorant', in fact within their ranks, be it the Catholic church, the Islamic empire, or the assorted Asian cultures that all had different degrees of spirituality, all were the vanguards of scientific progress. The reason Joe Turnip Farmer wasn't part of that wasn't because they were 'keeping him ignorant' but rather because information was super hard to spread around. Books were costly and hard to mass produce, and more importantly the only ones who HAD the free time to learn to read and junk, for the most part, were the wealthy or those in clergy or the like who didn't have to spend 12 hours a day in a field. Obviously in this world technology isn't the same but the general concepts remain fairly true. It's more a matter that it's super hard to get the random chocobo rancher a good set of books to learn on because not only does that take a lot of time and resources, but that dude just doesn't have a lot of time for it because he's got chocobos to raise or his family doesn't eat. Obviously I can imagine situations like priests of knowledge based gods holding 'schools' in some form, but that can't change the reality that many people simply can't afford to spend most of a day not working.
  11. I use Tumblr almost exclusively for cute fan art, pictures of butts, and weird stuff like birds with arms.
  12. No it's really not the same at all to say 'hey someone who's acting abusive, you're a dick'. That's like the dumb 'if someone starts a fight with you and you fight back you're both equally in trouble' school stuff, sure in the grand cosmic scheme you'd probably be the better person if you just ignored people like that but if you say 'man fuck you then' to someone being abusive the abusive person is still 100% the dick in that situation. Like, I have no clue what spurred this so maybe I'm wrong and this is a vast plot to silence dissidents in the world's lamest dictatorial power grab or something but the principle of 'if you act like a dick behind our backs and we bust you we're not gonna forget that you're a dick just because you did it in a different place' is fairly reasonable. They 100% have the right to say whatever they want on Tumblr or whatever sparked this, but as RPC is not the government (again unless the lamest dictatorial power grab happened in which case bow to your new Lala overlords) nor their employer or any other position of power over them, the RPC staff also 100% has the right to say 'you're a dick, you're probably not welcome here if you're a dick'. Freedom of speech is not freedom from consequence.
  13. I might as well join this since I'm coming back (yet again). I'm Danger Gnome on Skype.
  14. Yea it's weird for us but for someone who's lived their whole life in the body I'm assuming most everyone knows how to angle their heads or whatever to keep from eye gouging.
  15. Zutoto's pretty easy, she's just fascinated by this kinda stuff, and she wants to see what Ishgard food is like.
  16. Gunblades are my guilty pleasure. They're so dumb and pointless and anime as hell but I just love them for some reason.
  17. I keep getting error 2002 lobby full. No matter how many solutions I try. People say switch datacenters, I do that, error. People say all sorts of other stuff and I do that, error. Now to make things worse I can't even close out right away, I get the error, hit ok, then my window goes gray and not responding and not even ctrl-alt-delete can close it somehow. I'm just cursed when it comes to this game.
  18. Character Name: Zutoto Zuto Character Gender: Female Server: Balmung Dunesfolk or Plainsfolk: Plainsfolk Timezone: CST What RP are you seeking? I'm kinda down for whatever, could always use friends since I'm coming back from a huge break. Zutoto's a huge nerd and loves cooking so her fllow mages and chefs are always welcome, and she's recently come back from a piratey funtime adventure so if there's any fellow swashbuckling types they'd gel well too (cartoonishly evil pirates need not apply). No wiki...should probably make one of those huh? But here's her journal that I totally need to write more in anyway: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=4355
  19. Yea I think that's what bugs me most. They said they wanted women of the race to be 'cool' and 'sly' or the like didn't they? Why would they basically carbon copy the the humans when they could actually make it very...reptilian. The dragon stuff plays into that, make them cold and harsh looking, make them look like they'll cut a chump who ticks them off without a second thought. That's how lizards do. I really am hoping they just didn't have the more 'reptile' stuff ready, which I could understand, I want to make a lady who would make Isghardians go 'the fuck am I looking at here, should I be stabbing that?!'
  20. Yea I like them, I'll probably be making one, but it's fair to say 'wow a race of super buff dudes and skinny 'sly' women that look like humans with horns and a scale texture applied, really went deep there duders'. You can do a good job with a lazy idea.
  21. Both Zutoto's hands have burns on them from her cooking and magical training. They don't hurt her dexterity but they make it hard to grip things too tightly. She also has a pretty bad stabbing scar right in her side she got during her piracy adventures. The story there is pretty obvious, she got skewered by a pirate. Doesn't hurt mobility but obviously getting hit there isn't great. She doesn't let healers fully patch either of those up, feeling they're part of her education.
  22. Welcome back, nice to see I'm not alone in coming back after a very long break!
  23. Oh yea, and all that stuff about almost all of that post being the most historically inaccurate thing possible about ninjas. A 'realistic' female ninja would just be some rando farm girl the local lord pays for information or something, so I guess let's change it to needing high level Botany.
  24. I always hate these kinds of answers. For one, this is a magic elf world not actual feudal Japan, and for another so what? Historically speaking women couldn't be knights, so would it be cool if SE made Paladins and Dragoons male only? It's a really shitty fantasy trope to have a dude look like a full body badass and a girl look like a shitty porn star, and it's really dumb whenever it happens. This makes me almost not want to bother with Ninja if I'm gonna run around in a battle bikini as my 'reward'.
