  1. Yea I like the note system, it's nice to have a reason behind it at times so you can see 'ah this person liked this post because they also are interested in this character type, we should probably RP together!' or 'oh this person thought I was being a dick when I super wasn't meaning to sound that way, I should make that clearer!' I'd rather have a comment system than just pure up or down.
  2. Out of everything we've seen in Eorzea you draw the line at not being able to make invisible, aether conducting ink? Given what we know about Conjury and Thaumaturgy, their job counter parts, Monks and Summoning, using the body to conduct aether is infact safe if done correctly. As we know, drawing from your own aether heavily is extremely dangerous. The only job that really goes against that is the Monk but the Monks use Chakras, which I believe is something different and aside from Aether... but I'm not sure? I should ask Sounsyy or someone about that. I see where you're coming from but lore within the game world heavily disagrees with you. I do agree it should have some sort of payment to its use though, be it fatigue or whatever. [Edited because I fail at reading today!] I dunno the invisible ink bit just feels weird, I'm not saying definitely don't do it just that I can't see it. Aether is safe to draw on but it seems that every class that does it does so through conduits and all, staves and formula in books and all. That makes it feel like to me that there needs to be some level of divide between the 'battery' and the product, to focus it and all. It feels to me like it'd be dangerous to just 'focus' it through your own body, because then you're just taking raw energy and forcing it through your own self to refine it down better. Like, I know this is 100% headcanon and all but to me the reason why your weapons take damage as a mage and all is because you're focusing all this wild energy through them and that causes strain. If you take that and apply it to your body that'd reasonably hurt like shit, wouldn't it? Just to be clear I think the idea is really cool and the OP should 100% go with it.
  3. For my own view I think this is more than possible but 1) the tats would probably be visible, I can't imagine anything in the alchemist made ink makes it go stealth mode when you put it on skin, and 2) I'd personally limit it pretty heavy because you're basically putting the magic version of a highly experimental weapon on your body. I can't really imagine that's safe, even if you're not constantly drawing from your own aether whenever you use it, you're still conducting powerful forces directly through your body. I'd personally go that route for maybe one or two 'signature spells' that the character would basically want to have constant access to in case of emergency or something.
  4. Really eager to see Ishgard finally, the new classes look fun, FC airships is a great idea, all in all it's a great looking expansion.
  5. I have no idea how you can call this 'quite the little echochamber' when it's 90% people saying that it's good and get over it and they leveled fast so everyone else can and hey you can always go back to WoW (because thinking one thing is not perfect means we hate everything, obv). Like, is this seriously where the discussion is, either you like literally everything or shut up you're not qualified to have an opinion there are other MMOs?
  6. Literally my entire 'problem' was thinking it was kinda lame the new jobs don't follow the normal job rules and yes for alts I make I have to basically complete one character before I can even start leveling what I may have had in mind for them. I had no idea it was such a fucking offensive statement to some people that would prompt them to tell me how lazy and entitled I am and how I should probably go back to WoW or whatever.
  7. I'm legitimately sorry I brought anything about this up, that was clearly a mistake.
  8. Yea to be honest if there's one thing that really caused this bothersome feeling I had about it it's the fact that Dragoons, a super Ishgard only cultural job, have been accessible since day 1 with all the other normal jobs. There's already precedence for this closed off society to have some slivers that got loose, so the excuse of 'well these all come from Ishgard' feels hollow.
  9. Oh I've accepted, I hardly expect SE to change it, that would probably be literally impossible to do just a hair ahead of a week from launch. Not a fan of it, but yea I've accepted that's how those three jobs work, and that's fine, lucky for me the ideas I have for an expansion alt all had other jobs as options along with the expansion ones so I can just get that done.
  10. Well for me I'm hardly 'hurt', but I bought it because A) at the time the only info was that you needed to complete the main story in general so I figured that was a 'yea no duh to do the Ishgard stuff you gotta get there', and B) despite apparently being a big entitled baby who secretly hates this game I do plan on playing it and getting there so might as well, and C) I wanted to support the company that made one of the few MMOs I enjoy and wanted to help make sure the expansion is seen as a success.
  11. Again, this 'Outdated MMO philosophy' is currently the only subscription MMO besides WoW that's making money. I think people are just used to F2P MMOs, which don't care how long you stay. They want you to show up, blow 50 bux in the cash shop, then come back in a few months to try out the next new gimmick. I'd argue that profitable has nothing to do with outdated or not. I don't deny FFXIV is successful, I love that it's successful because I love this game, but we are rapidly approaching a time where MMOs are going to have to do some real deep looks at what is and isn't a good way to keep players, and I just can't imagine 'make expansions that have absolutely nothing for people under the level cap and then some thanks to ilevel being the gate' is going to stick around. I think lots of other MMOs have done what you say and they've all been forced to go Free to Play. Do you have a counter example of a subscription MMO that has done the things you suggest and been successful? I could name a dozen or more who have done thing things you've said and gone f2p. I would enjoy if you could bring even one statistic or piece of evidence forward that supports your view besides blind conjecture and anecdote. There are lots of other MMOs that do what you say, so why not just enjoy those instead of saying this one should change? Well ok now we're just gonna insult eachother because even though I said over and over I like this game and think this one thing is a poor choice, I clearly am unhappy with the entire game. That's a cool and adult way to talk about things, you are an awesome person. Most MMOs that go f2p go long before their first expansions, can YOU point to an MMO that was going along just fine, released an expansion that...I don't know apparently you're butthurt because I don't like the classes all being level cap only so I guess 'added a class that you can make at creation' is the proper analogy for other MMOs? And then after that expansion suddenly their numbers fell like rocks for reasons and they had to go F2P? Please, name one of the dozen you have on file because I can't think of one. And no for the record I won't be leaving FFXIV, as I said in I think all my other posts in this thread, I really like this game despite this one annoyance. Ya know, because you can like and enjoy something despite thinking one thing it does isn't great.

  13. I don't think anyone is saying this is some game ruining problem but yea, as a dude just coming back who's last storyline progress was getting a chocobo and who's highest class is currently like 20 and it's not even the class I want to be, it's a little annoying that a major part of the game experience is gonna be totally locked out, especially considering I think those jobs are really cool. Like yea I'm not gonna be miserable just going with black mage through the story, but I wish I at least had access to the options. It's not the worst thing ever done in an MMO, but it's an annoying and frankly really outdated MMO philosophy to have, the old 'expansion packs are just for people who are done with the game right now' train of thought is really not an awesome one.
  14. Yea Chocobo breeder is the way to go. Horses are super rare and usually mythical beasts (unicorns, elemental stuff) more than just 'a horse'. The only qualifier you need to play a Chocobo breeder is Ishgardian alignment.
  15. Yea this is still a fantasy game, I don't see any issue with treating bullets like arrows, melee types are trained/skilled enough to juke or block the shots. Obviously ideally they'd rather not get shot at all because that's not great for them, but I see no reason to call bs on a Paladin taking shots on their shield or whatever. Right now my only characters are Zutoto, the mage who will react to guns with 'oooooh let me see that and take it apart and see how it works' and my future Au Ra who, since they'll be going Mechanist, will react to them with 'yea, give me that and let me shoot it at this jerk who's bothering me'.
  16. Yea I'll admit my time here has been in off and on bursts till recently but I've never seen that. I've seen people roll their eyes at 'I found a potion and now I'm a sexy catgirl tee hee' stuff but I've never seen 'you used that item at all HOW DARE YOU'.
  17. Zutoto's 100% interested in them and eager to learn more.
  18. Not I apparently, I think it looks cool. Of course I'm a gardening nerd so I've seen those plants before plenty, so maybe it's just exposure bias.
  19. That's good to know, thanks for that!
  20. I imagine they have elf lifespans, long, but not ancient.
  21. Yea Chocobos can fly according to multiple past games, if it was me I'd rather something like a griffon be my main source of air travel just because I don't trust them stubby wings, but nothing lore breaking to worry about there!
  22. Super stoked. Drama and danger and all Zutoto went from being a girl who figured she'd be spending her life fishing or frying fish in the inn to an adventurer who uses her magic gifts.
  23. How does your character deal with killing? Zutoto has actually been around 'death' as a concept a while. Being the child of a fisher and a chef she learned very young that some animals are pets and some are food, and had seen her parents gutting/butchering their products since early childhood. Still, obviously, that's not the same as killing a fellow sentient creature. She's a magic user, and magic is very powerful and dangerous, she accepts that even when she's 100% in control death could come to the people she fights. Because of that she's fairly slow to fight at all, seeing her magic as a weapon that has to be handled with care (and her interest in Black Magic sure is reinforcing that). She has killed, she was a pirate for a time after all, she doesn't have a big body count but it's a non-zero amount. How did your character feel after her first kill? Tired. Her first 'real' kill (assuming grilling a fresh carp for dinner doesn't count) was in a pitched battle with another, much more vicious, pirate crew. It was a long fight from ship to ship that left a lot of people hurt or dead. She didn't even know she killed anyone until someone pointed out that she 'had her first' and congratulated her. She wasn't happy about it, but it was a 'them or me' type thing so she didn't exactly lose any sleep over it. She really just wanted to rest. Does your character mull over it later on? Yes. Even when it's justified killing takes a heavy toll on someone not raised for it, Zututo has had more than a few sleepless nights from flashbacks or the like. It doesn't dominate her life, but she pretty surely has some issues that she's currently avoiding working out.
  24. I came expecting a joke, got a legitimate cry of 'police state' and 'removal of agency' over funny pictures. Excellent. Also can I just say I hate the whole 'I'm from EUROPE where we use humor blurgh blurgh blurgh' whenever something like this comes? Like, you're not a satirist being censored, you made a dumb post and mods said 'nah'. Wrapping yourself in a flag as if you're speaking truth to power is just kinda gross. It's like if when I get an infraction I start being all 'oh I'm sorry I'm AMERICAN where we fight and die for our freedoms and you're silencing my voice like King George tried to do and blaaaaaaaaaarp'. It's just such a gross thing to invoke over something so petty as Pretend Elves.
