Just play them seriously and people will take you seriously. Whenever someone treats Oliwat as a kid, he yells at them and reveals that he's a 42 year old man, and that he'll shoot an ice shard through their knees if they don't stop being rude. It gets awkward real fast.

"Adalhaid" is a combination of Adal- and a variant spelling of -Heid, which together roughly mean "of a kind/noble sort/appearance." I wasn't specifically shooting for that when I went name-hunting, but I liked the sound of it, and it fit her intended personality.

It's not too hard to determine, really. A lot of people are feeling it, and there have been some changes in the industry, too. Manglobe went Bankrupt at the start of October, for instance. Hayo Miyazaki infamously stated that current studios are lacking in imagination (though to be fair, this isn't exactly a new viewpoint for him, even if he isn't wrong), the creator of Evangelion isn't too thrilled either, neither is one of the writers of Cowboy Bebop, "Anime Is Dying" arguments and articles are popping up with a lot of frequency (you can just google that bit if you haven't seen these), animation in both the US and Japan is being outsourced extremely quickly to South Korea and India, and streaming services may start becoming / replacing publishers, similar to Netflix and Hulu. Lots of changes, none of it particularly beneficial as far as bringing in revenue goes. Add to that the fact that it seems like more and more shows are adopting the American model and pushing Merch as hard as they can, and it seems like things are getting more than a little wobbly. Interestingly, it's also worth noting in the article regarding animation outsourcing that the population of Japan (a.k.a. Anime's Target Audience) is shrinking, which means less viewers in the first place. I'm not sure how much of a factor that is, but it's nonetheless extremely interesting to note.

I think the idea was teleporting before anyone could see what you looked like. Which still gives it a rather good use for criminals. Throw on a cloak, do the crime, throw it off and teleport away before anyone notices.

I've never been a big Macross person, but it looked okay except for the 3D CGI. I wouldn't put it on a Must-See list or anything. This isn't particularly bad as far as things go, though; if anything, since the anime industry is in the bit of a slump at the moment, expect it to get worse before it gets better. If it gets better.

The only thing they said here that we didn't already know is the dating for some of the aetherytes. I was kind of expecting more.

It's also worth noting that: Regardless, welcome to the RPC!

The reason why I ask is because it seems a little thrown in there, I can't really find much of a correlation between that and anything else, especially considering her former skills and temperment. If you're unsure yourself what it's doing there, then I would question its inclusion. I'm of the mind that you should know what purpose things serve when adding to a character. The approach to character building that I would suggest is deciding what kinds of stories you wish to tell with a character, and then developing them based on that backing. Personal questions regarding the possibility of diplomacy aside, it seems as if the diplomat angle, her backstory, and her attempt at rediscovery are spreading the character rather thin. In other words, it seems as if she's covering too little ground on too many things; either many of those things will end up becoming irrelevant due to her development (at which point it becomes a bit of a waste to put them in), or she won't develop very far in any areas in order to continue holding onto the others.
-
Out of curiosity, is there a particular facet of the character that you're trying to draw out by using the diplomat angle, or is it just a reason for them to be where they are?

I'm responding specifically to this. If that's not what you meant, then that's fine, but it's really unclear what exactly you're trying to go for at this point, at least to me. Also, whether or not a villain is stereotypical or out to ruin lives doesn't really matter much when it comes to the establishment of conflict; any type of villain is part of a duality. Without encounters with their opposite, the title of "villain," regardless of what it denotes, becomes meaningless. Just something to think about.

I would actually take Garlona's post a step further, and say that if you're not expecting to be found out while playing a villainous role, then You're Doing It Wrong. The job of a good villain isn't to be good at their job. It's to be an entertaining and challenging foil for the heroes of the world. If a character is so skilled at fighting and hiding that any attempt to find them or fight with them is doomed to failure, then nothing interesting is going to happen with your character. I'm assuming, based on your original post, that you're playing a villain because you want them to come into conflict with people. The important thing, therefore, is coming up with openings that can be used for that conflict to happen. If they're diplomatically immune, or indistinguishable when in disguise, or whatever else, then there's no opening. You might as well be playing any other character, or at the very least, describe them as something other than a "villain." Yes, there are people that are better at conflict than others (building up tension, waiting for discovery, asking how / where they can find information, etcetera), but if that's going to happen in any capacity, expect word to eventually get out, and for people to be after you. That's what happens. That's part of the reason why a lot of people find Secret Villains ultimately unrewarding; they're one-trick ponies. As soon as someone finds out that you belong to the evil empire that's out to destroy them and everyone they love, then they're going to tell their friends, and that'll be it. As an aside, it's also worth noting that such divination as you mention is a featured part of the game, in the form of memory-sharing with the Echo. You can always exclude people that use it from your roleplay, but be advised that it might be something people try to do, considering that it is a part of the lore. They might not do it to everyone, but in the case where doing so might lead to interesting conflict, i.e. finding out someone is a Garlean, it's likely that they may do it in that circumstance.

Do you support legacy terminology? ('-ra' '-ga' spells)

For Paragraph One, this still leads to confusion because people will call different spells different things, everyone will get confused, and communicating what people are trying to say and becoming confused regarding spell names (especially for new players) will become Just Horrible. For Paragraph Two, It's not that the English version can't, it's that it Didn't. It's like saying America can't rename all its small towns to have -shire suffixes. Sure we can, it's just entirely useless save for cosmetics, and does nothing but confuse the hell out of people and outdate all existing guides and maps. So the resulting conclusion is that this is Worse Than Useless, in the sense that it not only functions as being of No Change at best, but will also confuse tons of people at worst. -
Lucia states that she confided specifically to Aymeric, so no, no one else knows. Since that confession is a big deal to her, it's likely it wouldn't have been taken well. Also, Ishgard is "neutral" in the sense that they'd rather not be bothered, but subjugation by a foreign power would certainly count as "being bothered." Also, their original reason for not joining the Alliance was less because they didn't want to tussle with Garlemald for political reasons, and more because they were too busy Killing All Dragons. I also highly doubt that Garlemald would negotiate for a cease-fire, seeing as part of their goal isn't just subjugation, but also Killing All Primals, because Primals are Killing The Planet. If you put people under your Strict Supervision (subjugation), that becomes easier. The entire reason why the Eorzean Alliance exists is to repel invaders, so it seems counterintuitive to join an alliance dedicated to something, only to Not Do That Thing. I doubt the other city-states would have asked them to come back, if that were their position.
-
They're pushing more for Subjugation or GTFO; not quite all-out war, but probably not anything you'd send a Diplomat for either. Not to mention that since Ishgard rejoined the Eorzean Alliance, it seems questionable they would negotiate with Garleans in the first place.

I dunno, I like the spell names the way they are now. Mostly because it's easier to keep track of tiered numbers than knowing whether I should be casting the a, ra, or ga version of the spell. It's a hassle to everyone but old-school fanatics and Roleplayers, who can just call the spells by those names in roleplay if they really wanted to. Not to mention the horrible, horrible communication errors that would come with Squeenix suddenly changing the names of spells after they've been set in stone this long. -
Speaking of toxic communities word on the street is you should watch out for that Oli guy. He's horrible, I heard he eats babies.

This might sound condescending or something, but I promise it's not. When things like this happen, it's probably best to get outside. Go to a coffee shop or something and talk to someone face to face. Refresh your social setting and the feelings that go with it and all that. That's not to say that online feelings can't eventually turn into love, but more often than not they're just a need to form a connection that you can also form elsewhere with much less risk and much more ease.

Their shape roughly matches this, yeah. That might be right.

I saw those when I was planning a track for an air race. I think they're little glowfish guys.

Gothic Fashion is a subset of the Goth subculture, which is very heavily detached from the historical period marked by Gothic architecture. Squeenix seems very much aware of this, considering that the Heavensward NPCs in Ishgard wear clothing inspired by that historical period. So this is still out of left field. If anything, I would say that they've decided to go Full Steampunk at this point, considering that we're now at the cusp of the "Great Sky Age."
-
What you just linked is in stark opposition to coats and top-hats. The architecture used for the expansion is indeed Gothic, but that was already stated. We're talking about the armor.

The question then arises of why no one would have told her to keep it covered when she first got it. If you're trying to keep your activities secret, and someone in your group with a very special marking gets caught, the police are going to start looking for that marking, and suddenly you've got a one-way ticket to jail tattooed on your arm. It's not just a risk for her, it's a risk for everyone in her thieving circle. So it seems strange that they would neglect to mention that to her.

The average layman probably wouldn't know Fire IV is Black Magic, and anyone in the Thaumaturges' Guild wouldn't dare go up against the brotherhood. I don't think there's much of an inconsistency; there's nothing that says THMs can't cast black magic, it's just that if you do it repeatedly without a focus, you blow up. I'm more concerned as to why there's a spell called Virus, but apparently people still believe in the Humors theory of disease.
