I will proudly admit to using it for a stupid, crass in-character joke thing in which my Arcanist tried to minimize her bustline with alchemy and instead maximized it by using the wrong ingredients by mistake from overtiredness and illness. Because it amused me for five minutes and...really, it's not a huge deal. I mean, it's a freebie for subscribing for awhile and it apparently exists in the game world...doesn't need to be so serious a thing, might as well use it and have fun with it.

This is where things get very fuzzy. You have to separate the world itself from the real-life politics that game creators unfortunately MUST abide by. You are not going to find a game today out there, regardless of its theme or setting, that treats men and women as two distinct sexes anymore. It's not common, but it IS present in some titles, though mostly relegated to background elements. The one series I can think of that definitely does this is the Witcher games from CD Projekt Red, based on the Andrzej Sapkowski stories and novels of the same title. It's made fairly blatantly obvious that the Sorceresses are some of the few women in the world with actual power and ability to exercise that power. Equality is a nonexistent ideal in that world, save perhaps for the protagonist and his friends.

So I'm returned from a forced hiatus thanks to my ISP and its small-town problems (nobody knows what they're doing, basically), and I'm trying to remember anything about what I was doing RP-wise and can't. With that in mind, I'm thinking I'll just...make something new up. What I'm looking for is in the title! Anyone that can point my Arcanist (to be Summoner and Scholar both) to something that won't turn away folks that are a bit dark and less wary of dark dealings gets an internet cookie. Anyone that actually remembers either of my characters gets a hug and me wondering what the heck went on while I was gone, LOL.

What can I say, I like tricksy characters, and they look good in action!

Delicious, delicious Rogue. Ninja...I could take or leave, honestly. I like shinobi a lot but it actually didn't look like something I was really dying to do, unlike the Summoner/Scholar with Arcanist. Of course, having the Dancer show up in the expansion would be the ultimate SQUEE moment, but for now this will be a nice new thing to work at once it's out and I can access the game again.

As much as I adored being a badass werewolf (why more games don't have that option I'll never know), I just can't bring myself to go back to World of Warcraft. Even as much as I loved Guild Wars 2 (CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARR. And Norns, I suppose. They were neat too), even it didn't hold my attention for that long thanks to the 'do EVERYTHING in this zone before moving to the next' gameplay mentality. I'm not mainly an MMO player, so it needs to do something special, typically, to keep me hooked. Pantheon looks interesting because of its 'return to MMO roots' gameplay promises, and while I personally enjoyed Champions Online more than City of Heroes, I gotta say CoT sounds fun as heck. Other than that though, FF14, like 11 before it, seems destined to be the second MMO that actually keeps my attention longer than an initial period of trial and error. Something about the way Square does it just...works for me.

I feel this is a kind of comic-book-ish, stereotypical vision of evil that Final Fantasy uses often, but doesn't really lend itself to good roleplay. People who are 'evil' are often just so in the eyes of their society, and even when they are legitimately terrible people willing to do terrible things...I really doubt the people who succeed at it are going to do this kind of backstabbing if they actually want to make good on their aims. You only get to be a total dick when you're at the top of the power structure, and safe from most reprisal.

Is it wrong for SE to want people to engage with the GAME they produce while they engage in the vanity system and RP? Because that's what I see the restrictions aiming to produce, and I don't think it's really a bad idea either.

I agree with LastCandle as regards ESO's combat, it was never going to be particularly interesting, though the leeching abilities in the Nightblade inspired a new Skyrim character, so...not all bad? LOL. I must disagree as regards the animations though. Every single one of them was leaps and bounds ahead of even Skyrim IMO. The Gamebryo engine (or Creation, totally-not-a-rehashed-Gamebryo-we-swear engine) is just terrible for animation apparently.

In FFXI, goblin names ending in -ix are male (Fickblix) and those ending in -ox are female (Leadavox). It would be easy to carry that over to FFXIV. I think it might actually be reversed in XIV. Sweetnix Rosycheeks (in Proper Procedure) is referred to as female by the other NPC in the quest.

I recommend the Seekers LS that the Order of Sword and Rose folks started, since it's pretty much dedicated to this purpose, and they're the guys that put on the Coffer and Coffin RP nights each month. They're pretty good at it.

I...made up a name. And thought a bit about how much I liked the Dancer in FF11. That was the only time I played the game for an actual stretch. Something like 8 months before other things and university/life finally made me pull the plug. So I tried to create a background that would 'prep' her for becoming a dancer type should they ever release that as a Job, and made her a Pugilist until then because I like martial arts and I figured I could fake the Dancer by cross-classing some of the basic buffing and healing abilities from Conjurer or Arcanist or something. That's...pretty much the only thing that's been consistent with her honestly. My first character in every game I play is a jumbled mess of influences and things and I *usually* end up deleting them and going with someone more focused and considered... But I really like her appearance, and I've put in enough time that I'm gonna keep her...probably as an alt until I can get her story straight and/or something Dancer-like comes along...

I'm Lynx tribe!

That'd be neat as heck! ...that'd be a really cool way to add stuff without having to necessarily wait for a ton of expansions to come out, actually. At least adding stuff that makes sense for the 'base' game to have already like a Musketeer. Expansions should be for adding stuff that's just not common to Eorzea.
-
What everyone else has said, really. I'm pretty much cool with whatever they add honestly...just wish we could get to expansion stuff faster because eventually they have to add dancer, surely. I can dream, can't I?

The Coffer and the Coffin Cheers Night
UltraFennec replied to faceman7381's topic in Chronicled Events
Totes nifty and I found some cool people to hang with! I wish things like this could be arranged more often! Or maybe I just need to find more Linkshells to chat with and an FC to join. -
Making sure the devs know you actually like the product and aren't just bitching because ya hate it is kinda important too though. The former tends to make people more amenable to listening to the criticism, the latter gets people ignored.

The Coffer and the Coffin Cheers Night

Awesome, totally going to be there. Hopefully ice-breaking is easier with so many people assembled specifically for the purpose, heh. -
Hmmm, this could be interesting for a more...gritty and criminal bent to my character, but I liked both FF7 AND Advent Children! Whatever am I to do about that silly joking line up there in the information? Still, the idea appeals...I may look y'all up.

How Does Your Character React To Physical Touch?
UltraFennec replied to Dat Oni's topic in Character Workshop
I imagine X'vhatikih is alright with sharing personal space with people, tribal life lends itself to that I think. Sitting shoulder-to-shoulder at a packed table in a tavern is okay, threading through the bustling streets of a city is fine, etc. Unwanted touch...if it was normal like, someone put a hand on her shoulder and it annoyed her, she'd just shrug the hand off or push it off, but it wouldn't really be cause for anything more than "Why ya gotta be like that?" An enemy trying to send a message, as it were, would be likely to be more rudely brushed off with sharp, bold commentary, or fight/flight if she thought she could get away with it. Surprise touch, on the other hand, generally elicits fists or claws being applied to people. She's had enough close calls back home with 'interested parties' that most unannounced touch registers as an unwanted advance to her subconscious, and results in reflexive measures to cut that off quickly. I think that's how she ended up in the Pugilist's Guild most likely. She came to Ul'Dah to further her dance prowess, not punch people for a living! :frustrated: -
You get five bajillion awesome points for listing something from Genso Suikoden! As much as I love FF, Suikoden is my #1 fave RPG series...maybe fave game series period. It's just so gooooooooooood. Speaking of Suikoden... X'vhatikih's most likely theme. Oschon is totes her favorite of the Twelve. Fits a seemingly carefree Miqo'te...but then... 0lXKndm4nKU This shows up when she's alone! My absolute favorite 'days gone by' theme for anything. But...it's so sad. e7CKWhNB4Es And the cheer-up I'm sure someone will be on hand to give her: JixNrlJfDkU Bonus not-really-related track in case of 'let me play you the song of my people' rUBZgLbRdL8

Yes, Lynx tribe! I didn't even consider using X in her name but...lynxes are awesome and the idea of a super-quick, jumpy-climby predator totally fits the character and her pugilism style... even if she's a Seeker...and Lynxes are all nocturnal. Minor quibbling detail. >.> Thanks for the input, ladies, or gents, I default to apparent avatar sex on the forum don'cha know. I'll probably do that then and force myself to slow down and think about things...and actually recall to find people RPing and ping them. Then I'll just have to feel awkward asking for an Intermission pearl again, LOL!

Haven't creeped on anyone yet myself, though I did get a few head-turns immediately after porting back to Ul'Dah after gettin' all DAT SUBLIGAR. Somehow I knew that set would re-appear even without wiki-diving or looking for screens...it's a staple by now.

Is it odd that, now that I've hit 15 and gotten a decent re-grasp on the game from the post-1.0 launch days, I really feel like I should reboot the character and take things slower and meld the RP with it instead of...plowing ahead like a crazy person? I've done this before in other games and MMOs, but usually only because I was dissatisfied with character looks, which I must say isn't the case here aside from that awkward permanently flirtatious hip thrusting stance the Miqo'te have.

Your name is Pip, you instantly get like a hundred win points or something! Such a simple but great name.
