1. I've been seeing these pop up a lot more lately, and I remember they were pretty prevalent in WoW's RP scene. I'm curious if there's lore supporting the "dragons-in-disguise" thing, and I'm missing it, or if players are just being creative about how they're explaining it. Is there anything to actually back up the idea of dragons hiding out as humanoid races?
2. A suggestion I toss out when I see this sort of thing pop up is to specifically set aside days and times where she only spends time with you, both in-game and out-of-game. During this time, the friend is not allowed to come up and he isn't invited along, it's personal time for the two of you.
3. The Dusk Wolves A Free Company located on the Balmung Server. Who we are: We are a laid back social Free Company. We are not focused on end-game or raiding, but we do like running dungeons together and hanging out socially in-game. We are LGBT+ and alternative lifestyle friendly. We do not tolerate sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, etc. Any of these will be an automatic removal from The Dusk Wolves. We do not operate on a three-strike system. We have members of all ages and walks of life in our ranks. I wanted a relaxed environment where people can chat and share interests while playing the game. We have standard Free Company amenities like buffs, a house/apartments, chocobo stable (great for dyeing!), etc. Who we are looking for: People who are 18+. Chill people who want a place to hang their hat Friendly folks willing to help each other out from time to time For more information, including community events, our FC rules, and recruitment form, please check out: http://whiskertavern.tumblr.com/dusk
4. Shofie's include an unhealthy love of cod puffs (and are the only thing she knows how to cook), and reading romance novels.
5. Like a lot of folks, I'm excited to try it, but it won't be my character's IC class. It was my jam back in XI, so I'm eager to dig into it, but it's also wildly different from how it was in XI. Time will tell if it'll be my new DPS go-to class (I personally enjoy healing and tanking more than DPSing).
6. Absolutely do not constantly Fantasia-bomb your character because you're struggling to find a concept or character that works. Changing your character too often will just put people off roleplaying with you. It's basically sending the message that you are flighty and there's absolutely no reason to invest time in you, because you might just change your mind a few days later, and then all the time you may have spent trying to connect with someone will be gone and the other person will be stuck trying to explain away their encounters with you. If you're struggling with a character, pull friends in, ask them advice, etc. I've found trying to tell someone what I'm trying to do with a character will get them to ask me questions that motivate thought-provoking answers. Also, I notice that you're really worried what others think of you to the point you change yourself (your character) to attempt to please them, to try to find an idea that sticks with the crowd, and that's a super bad idea. Trying to conform to what you think will make a popular character will result in a huge mash of either something that doesn't make much sense, or something you don't really like playing at the end of the day (or both). You presumably aren't here to roleplay for others, you're here to roleplay for yourself, for your own motivations and reasons. Don't get boxed in by trying to be what others want.
7. I hope you can find someone! I think the official forums has a matchmaker thread kicking around someplace, you could always look there, too, to maximize your net-throwing, as it were. As a sidenote though: If you get divorced, you won't get to keep the ring, as that's how the divorce process works in-game. You have to talk to an NPC to get rid of the ring. You do get to keep all the other stuff, at least.
8. Name of Establishment: The Coeurl's Whisker Type of Place: Tavern/Inn (It's definitely run by criminal types, but the average member of the public wouldn't be aware of this, but it can still potentially be used in RP hooks) Location: The Goblet, Ward 9, Plot 8 Date/Days/Time Open: Every other Friday @ 9PM EST Contact Person(s): Shofie Mahowyn, Rhen Mahowyn
9. The issue is this happens already with Palace of the Dead. Jump Potions won't introduce that sort of player, they're already happening.
10. I would be extremely wary about bringing this up in roleplay casually. I'd make sure people were comfortable with it first (darker themes), before dropping it on them. Some people may be extremely uncomfortable or even upset being exposed to this, and understandably so. I would bring it up privately OOC well before ever attempting to do anything like this with anyone. No matter how well-thought out you feel it is for your character, I'd be pretty careful with this, because of the very real risk of harming someone unintentionally as a result.
11. I'm curious how this would be handled in lieu of the fact that MSQ unlocks everything for you. Dungeons, raids, chocobo, grand company stuff, etc.
12. Figured I'd do an art post since I haven't in a hot minute! Here's some recent arts. Cel shaded: (Shofie belongs to me) My full soft shading: (Rhen Mahowyn belongs to @rhen-ffxiv on Tumblr) Flats/colored lines (Character is Corrine Linumiere belongs to @catnitpicky on Tumblr!)
13. As an update: Paerl Guldbloewyn and Vincent Valourheart are no longer contacts for the Dusk Wolves recruitment!
14. It's an item that does not exist in-universe, it exists in-game. That said, there are ways to rp around it!
15. I don't think they're descended from dragons, anymore than miqo'te are descended from cats. They're just a humanoid race with some non-humanoid features. Due to some confusion from the devs and the community leads, we have mixed sources on whether or not they were "dragon-inspired" or "demon-inspired", and it sounds like they intentionally did not want them to be draconic because it wouldn't make any sense for a literal dragon war to be going on and have these draconic characters running around involved in it. So they can't really be draconic, it doesn't make sense. But really, neither does them being void-inspired either, considering how a lot of people in the world think and feel about Voidsent. So they aren't really either, but the obvious behind-the-scenes motivation for their design is both (for example, that early obviously succubus-inspired design that has obvious elements incorporated into the Au Ra, but they aren't succubi). I just don't think in terms of the game itself, that they are dragon-like, or demon-like. They are simply "Au Ra", beings with scales and horns and tails, and fanciful stories of their creation. It's really no different than any other race's creation myth. We tend to have creationism stories that insist our creator made us in his image, but we can't validate that one way or another. I feel like the same applies here. They can say one thing, but that doesn't make it an actual fact. It's just a belief system. That said, I think Au Ra players are free to make as much or as little out of that as they want! I just don't personally think they're related to or otherwise descended from dragons in the slightest anymore than a Miqo'te is related to a coeurl.
16. Hosted by The Dusk Wolves Free Company - The Coeurl's Whisker is our tavern, and in lieu of our normal Tavern Night, we thought we'd have an All Saint's Wake party! Show up in your best costume, at at 7PM we will do the judging. Costumes can be OOC and still be eligible for placing in the contest. (Though IC, our staff may play it off however they wish, which may include us having no idea who you are.) There is no entry fee to come join the contest! We ask that if you attend, you be in-character. Please do not be disruptive to people who are roleplaying. We look forward to seeing you!
17. There is no ISBN anywhere in or on the book. Other than one page in the very back of the book that has credits, the book is presented as being entirely "in universe" as much as possible, like you could go and pick this up in an Eorzean library. I haven't had the opportunity to entirely read it over, but so far there isn't much in the way of Au Ra lore beyond the three pages they are given in the book. There may be snippets hidden elsewhere, but I haven't uncovered them just yet!
18. This is all I've currently found specifically about their scales or horns. There may be more, but I've been busy since I got back from FanFest, and I haven't been able to thoroughly pour over the book just yet. This is specifically listed under the section for Au Ra.
19. It's always possible, but I'm suspecting they won't this time around. Au ra are apparently one of the least popular (played) races in the game across all servers, and that's a lot of resources and time to develop something that ultimately people just weren't very excited for. If they do ever add Viera, I hope we get tall Amazonian-like ladies, and petite-duders, just because it'd be a nice change of pace.
20. They have some darker options that lean more toward browns than blues. It's admittedly a much smaller part of their skin picker palette, but it is there!
21. I use it to indicate I am either open to RP, or "RP-friendly", that is, I won't break your immersion.
22. -Shofie eats like a horse (chocobo?) -She can't cook; so when she tries, she often sets things on fire. The only thing she CAN cook are cod puffs, because it's her favorite food. -She loves astronomy. -Shofie is obsessed with Carbuncles. -She is very childlike in a lot of her mannerisms, due to poor socialization growing up. -Shofie has some conflicting issues about her body image (she does not think she looks bad and isn't shy about people seeing her body, but people tend to react negatively to a very muscular girl, so she covers up to have to not deal with unwanted comments) -She always wraps about a quarter of her tail near the base in a cloth or leather wrap to keep it from being touched accidentally.
23. I don't actually know! I've never encountered anyone who used one, and my character and the people she associates with don't use them, so I imagine she would find them quite odd if she ever saw one. OOC, there's reasons some people would have them for sure (i.e. Astrologians, Machinists would almost assuredly have them), but I'm not entirely sure how much soulstones really come up in the average roleplay encounter or how relevant they really are most of the time.
24. I so very rarely do walk-up RP, but mostly it's more what I avoid than anything else. Like, if your RP profile blatantly states you are into ERP, I'm not going to waste my time, because I've found that most of the time, someone who's flag says they ERP is only looking for ERP, and that's disheartening and not what I'm after. I do like people who have tiny.url links to RPC pages in their profiles a lot, though! This game does make me wish we had a feature like World of Warcraft's MyRP add-on. That was a really nice way to meet folks and people watch, as it were.
