  1. Hmmm with the addition of stools... I might be tempted to put them in odd places allow folks to sit on different things. Wish there were low 'cots' that you could put in couches so folks could /doze on big couches. The FC cots are low enough to just barely clip part of the Oasis couch (just went and tried it), but they're far too wide. Even worse clipping problems with a Manor couch. You can make a pretty good day bed by pairing up an Oasis couch with one of the standard beds. I use a somewhat similar design for Kara, but she's got two couches for a more closed-in bed. A Manor couch would probably also work in the same way. Unrelated note, experimenting with other bed/couch designs led me to discover how to lay down on the floor, though I doubt I'm the first to make this discovery.
  2. ... I think my husband used Riviera furniture (bought from the vendor in the Mist) for his Roegy's furniture, and they looked sturdy enough. His problem was mostly the clipping as well. Oasis and Glade chairs and couches look sturdy... and I think that new "South Seas" set is also fairly big. Also, keep in mind that you can be creative and sink stools/benches/small chairs into things like tables, stalls, and desks and then be able to sit on them. A little bit of creative placing of other pieces of furniture, and you might be able to make more Rogey-sized furniture.
  3. Step 1: Find corner to put tree in Step 2: sink one eye bolt into the floor in the corner, and then two more two to three feet out along the walls Step 3: using clothesline or other thin-but-sturdy-cordage, string a line from midpoint-to-three-quarters-the-way-up on the tree to each eye bolt. Make sure the lines are taught. If done correctly, this will prevent the tree from being tipped in any direction except further back into the corner Step 4: Buy a baggie of jinglebells. String up jinglebells in small clusters, and liberally decorate with the clusters. The jinglebells will help alert you to kitty trying to climb the tree. And they look festive. Note: These four steps also work great for households with small children Step 5: Avoid decorating tree with candy canes -- cats go crazy for candy canes the same way they do for catnip. Avoid real popcorn garlands, too. Step 6: Cats also love tinsel... the same way they love used minty dental floss. To avoid sparkly cat-poo strings, skip tinsel strands and only use tinsel garlands. If all else fails, there's something called 'bitter apple' that you can buy at a pet store that you can spray on the tree. It won't completely stop them from climbing on the tree, but it will discourage them from nibbling/stropping on it. Also, get a tree that doesn't lose it's needles so easily. Balsam firs are the most common and cheapest tree sold in the US and they smell the best, but they shed needles like crazy. Go for a Fraiser or a spruce -- less fragrant, but less mess for kitty to track around the house.
  4. Highlander females have the best emotes.
  5. Rose of Sharon's FC house will be an IC orphanage when we're finally able to get moving (it's taken some time for us to get on our feet). The upstairs of the house is a reception/clerical area, the downstairs is a playroom and group reading area. So far, we have personal rooms that have been turned into: -- A bathroom -- Classroom/working space for girls -- Classroom/working space for boys -- Greenhouse -- Laboratory/infirmary Bunk rooms and a kitchen/mess hall are in the works.
  6. Luci Christian's "Deunan Knute" voice for Kara. Deunan's the blonde. Not sure for anyone else...
  7. I have no idea of why I didn't recognize you ;_; I guess I take by granted that I'm not going to meet anyone from the RPC in a random dungeon. It was a fun run, in any case! PS: Nonopi didn't like the miqo'te. She wanted a full lala party. /pet Full lala parties are best! Especially because miqo'te who decide to use their archer healing lb for no reason should not be healed, especially when they decide they want to do pulls. What if they use it because they're not getting healed? Gotta regen that hp somehow! Gotta stop hitting things not supposed to. And the last boss doesn't even hit the archer. Ever. ... You have not had the tank I once had... Halfway through the fight, tank lost hate to me because between adds I refreshed Venomous Bite on the boss. I wish I was joking.
  8. Oh gods, yes. On average, my job takes me up to a total of an hour a day. The rest of the day, I have to do my best to entertain myself in the 7x6 square foot space I live and work in. Which means, I play the game a lot... and I fall asleep while playing fairly often. Especially when gathering, crafting, and burning FATE parties. And I'm also one of those people who's dreams are are very easily influenced by what's going on around them while they're sleeping (alarm clock dreams are the WORST). Crafting dreams: Everything fails and/or breaks. EVERYTHING. Even Careful Synthesis fails. Gathering dreams: I find weird stuff. I mined up a house once. Also, I dream this one in first-person, so it's "me" running around and swinging a pickaxe or hatchet. FATE dreams: Nothing really special, running around and trying to kill critters. Also done in first-person.
  9. I think the one time I actually had the Gardener reference it in-game, I used either "Bird's Nest Flower" or "Sanctuary Flower". It's one of those plants that grows in so many places that it has a bunch of different names, heh.
  10. Going to repost from that other thread that FreelanceWizard mentioned: In regards to the thistle mentioned in the first post, we have lettuce and artichokes in-game, so a logic jump to thistle isn't too farfetched. I'll hunt around and see if I can find a terrain graphic that could be used as a 'source'. Same with wild yams... I don't think there's an in-game precedent for something specifically of the yam family, but I -think- I remember seeing a terrain graphic for lianas... I would nitpick about using Coerthas Carrot (a cultivated carrot) seeds the same way as you would Queen Anne's Lace/Bird's Nest Flower (Wild Carrot) seeds. Yes, they are in the same family (along with parsley, parsnips, and poisonous hemlocks), but the properties aren't the same across all members. You wouldn't want to use cultivated carrot seeds for contraceptives any more than you would hemlock seeds, albeit for different reasons -- you'd have to consume a nearly prohibitive amount of cultivated seeds to begin to have an effect, where the hemlock ones would just kill you. Fish from polluted waters often contain chemicals that lower sex drive. Dr. Kellogg actually developed Corn Flakes to be a food to lower sex drive. In general, bland foods with uninteresting textures seem to have a psychological effect of lowering libido.
  11. Hrm, let's see... Drowtales -- Possibly NSFW, depending on your work. Misfile Evil Overlords United -- Slow to update these days. Ti is running the comic solo now and as a side project, so other things get priority. El Goonish Shive My Life With Fel -- NSFW.
  12. I pulled "Kara" out of a pool of names I use in writing and didn't contradict the naming conventions. "Ashdale" was just the first surname that the name generator coughed up that I didn't have an objection to. The Gardener's original name (Malay Nihlo) was me giving a nod back to my original RP run in FFXI -and- part of my gaming tradition where I always have a Mal of one stripe or another kicking around on a character list. Thanks to the new powers of Name Change, though, she's just "The Gardener" now. Choice of that as a 'name' was me wanting a character that -was something- instead of -is someone-. Marsh Mallow... Dunesfolk Lala, the name goes against the conventions, I know. She passes it off that she was named by the Gardener (marsh mallows being the plants that were used to make the original marshmallow treats). Truth is, she's part of something that extends outside of the game and into elsewhere on the internet. Tinne Teine, another Lala, however this name looks closer to the naming conventions. Another one 'named' by the Gardener, the name would actually be pronounced chihnn-uh chihnn-uh... which is why she introduces herself as Holly -- Tinne/Teine is Ogham for the Holly tree. Luc'a... I'm not sure how I came up with his name. I have a vague memory of just seeing other Keeper male names and just making something that seemed in-line with it. I might've gotten "Rhee" from the name generator, though. Whisper's original name was Uli Whisperwillow. My first introduction to Roegadyn naming conventions was... a bit muddled. I just knocked it down to Whisper Willow... though I suppose Whispering Willow would be more correct. "Eltanin" is another name in the pile I pull from often... not exactly lore-compliant, I suppose, but I liked it. "Sellecerre" came from the name generator.
  13. ... That reminds me of the marquee that was in the entrance to my Highschool... "Welcome to T--------- Regional High, where the T stands for Excellence"
  14. Acts of Gord, another oldie but goodie.
  15. How about some ImprovEverywhere? Mostly safe for work and school... the Pantsless Subway Rides might be borderline, depending on your work's standards. In a similar vein, SA Wardega has some amusing videos, though I like his charity ones better. The MSTing of Dragonball E has been kicking around on the internet for over a decade. Story behind this one, is that the owner of the website had a "Don't send me your fanficions" policy... and someone still did. This was their punishment. Even if you're not a fan of the Dragonball franchise, it's still funny. EDIT: Totally forgot this one... split up because of old Youtube rules, so watch the two parts in order:
  16. I use the starting RSE boots and gloves fairly often on Kara(Highlander), and I'd probably get more use out of the top if I could dye it. Mallow(Lala) uses the top and hands when she's being dressy... Whisper(Roegy) uses the pants... I think that's it.
  17. Born in Massachusetts, raised in Maine, and schooled in New Hampshire here (it was complicated). Family is still all up in that area and that's where I keep my address and clocks set to. ... Currently cruising through South Carolina, bringing 35,000 pounds of frozen chicken nuggets to Texas. ... OhgoodgodsDCtraffic... The overpasses... being stuck 200 feet up in the air for over an hour... *muffled screams*
  18. The echidna thing was supposed to be a joke (no sarcasm intended here, I honestly do struggle with making jokes/humor). And I'd just like to point out that I have at least once in the course of the discussion agreed that the characters probably are mammal, since SE really hasn't given us anything to think otherwise (however, I do have to acknowledge that until SE sets it in stone, it is something we're taking for granted. I hope they don't set it otherwise, because from an RP standpoint that'll create a nightmare... but if they do, I'm voting for babies being found under cabbage leaves). My arguments have mostly been against the statement of "if the characters weren't mammals they shouldn't have breasts because breasts exist solely for the production of milk to feed babies". This is true in real-world (as we know it) biology, yes. HOWEVER, real-world cultures world-wide have often used the depictions of female breasts on various forms, not to turn these forms into mammals but to show femininity. The psychological response in the vast majority of our species is not "breasts = mammal", but "breasts (regardless of size) = feminine". Artists/writers/developers/etc tend to use this response because it is readily identifiable and accepted without question by the majority. And the game is, in a broad sense, an artistic endevour. (The live births thing just struck me on a "well, actually..." moment. Navels are often just an artistic thing, I've seen them on things that in legend/folklore hatched from eggs or born from the foam of the sea.) Now. It is ENTIRELY possible to make an attractive female character/whatever that is flat-chested/lacking breasts, it just requires the use of other methods/devices/tropes to convey a feminine aspect. However, this can detract from certain character types. A flat chested, delicate, doe-eyed, and full-lipped girl would be harder to pass off to the majority as a tomboy versus a strong-featured, rough-and-tumble, one-eyelash-short-of-masculine girl that has a hint (like, A-cup) of a chest. As to the pictures Zyrusticae linked, I have not played GW2 (I'm assuming that's GW2?) personally but I did watch over my husband's shoulder often when he played. He was a die-hard Asura fan, and I agree that Asuran females were, through use of other methods/devices/tropes, perfectly feminine and artistically attractive without breasts. Breasts would've actually looked absurd on them, much like they would on Lalafell. He only played Charr long enough to decide that he did not like how the males moved, so with me being lazy after a long day, I only have the linked picture to go on for the females. I find the female in the image to also be artistically attractive and feminine. However, my understanding of the Charr is that they are a warrior race, and the image is quite far from what I personally would want to make for such a race with such a background; I'd want something... meaner. Sharper features, leaner face, perhaps more ragged; something I would seriously hesitate to approach versus something I'd ask after a few moments if I could pet it's ears to see how soft they are. To this end, I would think that small breasts (or even one breast; the other being removed as both an offering to a patron deity and because it would get in the way of fighting like the Amazons of legend were said to do) would not be inappropriate, because what I'm picturing in my head is likely fairly gender ambiguous to others. (Edit was for spelling)
  19. I know! I got it backwards and edited it summarily! ...unless there's something else I'm not seeing here. Edit: Beaten by Kage. I didn't want to switch my post and make it look like I got it right the first time, hence the strike and c/p for the lore added. Ah, gotcha. Just looks confusing the way you kept it up there.
  20. *pokes* "Garuda was a small bird raised by a young prince." "Having reached the limits of her strength, she fell from the sky, but her resolve was so powerful that she transformed during her fall, gaining a humanoid shape and regaining her vitality." EDIT: Poke withdrawn, was confused by how it was edited. Carry on.
  21. Sooo excited, finally got Kara's room all set for when she gets one ICly. I was rather dismayed when I saw how big the FC rooms were -- I wanted something very tiny for Kara. Soooo... I divided the room and used the front part for a workspace for the FC theme and made this little cubby. Only thing I'm missing is a few open coffers filled with gold, gems, and other loot-like items.
  22. Which seems pretty definitive on how our characters reproduce. There are snakes and sharks that give live birth instead of laying eggs. And if I'm reading correctly, the only difference between their method and most mammals is how the unborn are nourished: in most mammals, there's the placental connection where the mother provides nourishment, whereas with the sharks and snakes the young are self contained for nourishment (basically a yolk). Fertilization and gas exchange is nearly identical for both the sharks/snakes and mammals... and, again, the live birth. ... And then, just to be fair to the overall argument, I suppose... we have the platypus. Lays eggs in nests, but still a mammal. And then we have the echidna, which also lays eggs, but carries the egg in a pouch until it hatches and develops a while before emerging, and females don't have nipples but is still a mammal... ... Hrm. Okay, maybe XIV races are mammals that evolved from the echidna? Basiaclly, yeah. We're a species that's (for the most part) hard-wired to be attracted to others who have the same basic bodily configuration, and to associate boobs with females and dangling-parts with males. As a selling point, SE would've had a harder time pulling in numbers if they had only given us characters that had androgynous bodies/faces and the only way to tell the differences between the sexes were (for example) skin/hide colours, plumage, horns and ridge patterns. Would they still have gotten players if they had done this? Yes, but the game itself wouldn't appeal to such a broad spectrum as it does, as there are people out there that will only play a human/the setting's human analogue (Hyur, for XIV).
  23. For me, it depends on what point of lore we're dealing with. When the game hands me a hard "This is how it is, no exceptions", I take it as it is. Like Purebred Garleans being genetically unable to use aether. Devs have specifically stated this to be, so that's just how it is. When it's something that could be taken as ambiguous, for example like exactly how rare the Echo is, I look at various things. Is there evidence that suggests one thing? Is there evidence that suggests something different? What is the opinions of others, and how solid is their reasoning? From there I'll make a theory and run with it, though some things (like how rare the Echo is), I'll keep to myself because I know not everyone will accept it. It's a judgement call, really. Then there's other things where my line of logic goes "This is a minor thing, it makes sense when compared to the Real-World equivalents of the setting, and there is nothing in the game or from the Devs that say that this wouldn't exist, so until something is released that specifically says that this thing cannot exist, I'll RP it exists". Like coffee. While there is no icon in the game for coffee, the concept is benign enough that only the most strict and bitter lore-nazi's are going to pitch a fit over it. If in a later patch/expansion something pops up that says "Coffee is being introduced as a new import from X-region", then my characters have been drinking what amounts to be a coffee substitute all this time.
  24. I always thought Garuda was based off of the mytholocal creature- the Harpy. And I think those creatures WERE female. Though I understand in FFXIV lore they'd asexual. Harpys were female, yup. Depending on the version, they were humanoid females with bird-like features to birds with human female features. I just watched "The Last Unicorn" last night, and the version of Harpy they had there was a bird with three breasts.
  25. And what about whales ? They are mammals and don't have breasts.. Unless.. WTF happened to the brain of those people ._. ??? Whales technically have breasts. BUT, just to cover myself, I'll amend: In fantasy/sci-fi settings, the appearance of breasts don't always equal a mammalian species. Also, that picture is horrifying. I need eye bleach.
