I'm sort of on the fence as well. I think I'm more okay with people playing scholars, but pretty standoffish when the fairy comes into play. Finding and unlocking a fairy seems like a very rare event. I tend to err in this direction as well. If you take the quest line literally the fairy is -directly- tied to the stone the "hero" receives and no fairy = no sch. The only way I could think of to get a stone is by a PC surviving Wanderer's Palace and finding one somehow and even then I'd doubt they would just be laying about. They'd likely still be attached to Tonberries who were the scholars afflicted with the "disease form the sea" etc. This is conjecture, mind you.

I can agree with this. The only time it really throws me into a tizzy is when someone just *is* something because they want to with like....no lore knowledge or backing whatsoever. Like someone just went to the "super powers" vending machine and stuck in a quarter. :cactuar:

I am personally on the fence with SCH because the lore is really.....waffly. Not surprising considering I'm 99% sure it was the "afterthought" job. The sheer intelligence level required for this kinda pidgonholes the character into the "bookworm" trope though I'd like to see someone go the "highly functioning sociopath" route a la Cumberbatch's Sherlock. Summoners have to find a way to fight a primal and not get tempered. At most i can see a summoner being able to summon 1 egi ICly. Monk can have a max of 4(?) chakras opened (correct me if wrong), and someone out there knows warrs better than me.

Seems kinda like slamming the RP door in people's face with saying no. I can understand certain things being harder to find out than others but that can all be discussed oocly. Hmm..since she was a broker, Lurial seems a little malleable in the morals department so you could test the waters and see of she wants to go further in that direction. Really early on with Ros, I wanted her to combine the use of daggers with the poisons and acids used with Arcanima. It seems a really neat idea to me and blended the two quite nicely I thought without coming off too "OP" as you mentioned you were worried about. I don't think it's unreasonable for a spellcaster character to be able to protect themselves physically at all either. Granted, it wouldn't be a forte and, personally, I would play it as much weaker than the spellcasting angle but my chars also tend to be a bit lower on the Super Sayian scale.

Kayah will appear in 3....2.... But in all serious, the information broker aspect is an excellent angle and there could be tons of RP to come out of that if you are interested, especially with how much the "baddie" scene has been growing recently. In times Kayah and I rp'ed together he's mentioned Lurial by name. :3

I'd hit it.

Roswyn was born poorer than dirt then was put in a position where she was independently wealthy and she's "investing" it in nefarious means. She doesn't act like she has money to burn ((doing so would be counter productive to her goals)) and graciously accepts any payment she gets from working with her company etc. Though, anyone who has watched her closely would notice she oddly spends more than she seems to take in.

*NSFW* ERP- should both IRL partners be okay with it?
Roswyn replied to thatgirl's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Ok, the following might be the only serious reply you're gonna get. I know a woman IRL who is divorcing her husband because of text/audio sex in skype. These things mean different things to people on different levels. I, personally, wouldn't give a flying hoot about IC text sex however voice crosses a line cause that isn't IC anymore. You're not gonna get the people here to "side" with you or shame your BF for his IC activities. Frankly, you shouldn't be here at all. You should be sitting in your living room with your significant other talking this out like adults and setting boundaries for your relationship that you are both comfortable with. If neither of you are capable of the above then it might be time to break up because I sincerely doubt this is the only issue you two have. /exit Dr. Ros. -
Lalafell, strength and you! Light up the Sounsyy Signal.
Roswyn replied to Warren Castille's topic in RP Discussion
Honestly, at the end of the day as far as actual RP goes I think the "don't be a dick" rule comes into play here. Are you really going to tell your friend playing a Lalafel he "can't" do something because of his size? Is it really worth it? Answer is no imo. -

This thread makes me think of Yoda. Yoda was a badass Jedi and was way stronger than most Jedi/Sith. He was smaller but it really had no effect on him and he'd still whoop their butts. It could be said that it's because he used Form 4 of Jedi combat (lolnerd) but I like to think it has more to do with an individuals inner fortitude and how it was focused. That's how I tend to look at it in FF too. :cactuar: -
I didn't get any further in this post because I was laughing too hard.

When I think "light and fun" I don't think of getting arrested....especially by "Ul'dan's finest." Unless it's like for indecent exposure or something....:lol:

The tunnels were dark. She'd no idea who built them or why and at the moment all she could think about was running. Literally running for her life. ---------- She'd no idea what was about to happen when she went down there. She'd eased the pain of the mercenary's wounds with her conjury and extracted the cause of the damage. A corrupted crystal growing disgustingly out of the man's flesh. It pulsed a revolting shade of purple and red, veins and tracks of flesh growing along it's edges. She'd no idea how long it'd been growing inside the man. She'd wrenched it from his flesh with a knife and tossed it aside, watching it leave tracks of blood across the stone floor. She sat back then, panting, the knife in her hand still dripping with the mercenary's blood. She trembled. She wasn't used to things like this but any kind of rational processing of the situation would have to wait until her mind was free of the adrenaline and she was out of these horrible stone walls. She looked at her companion then, preparing to continue to heal his grave wounds when suddenly....he stood. She blinked up at his tall, muscled form in disbelief. He dripped copious amounts of his own blood as he half staggered, half walked across the room. "What...what are you doing??" Roswyn stuttered. "You're in no condition to..." Her words trailed off as she watched him move with intent, making his way towards one of the doors in the room. A metal cage door housing an emaciated man chained to the wall. It was then she'd finally looked around. A wooden table stood nearby, various implements of cutting through skin and muscle laid bloodstained and filthy atop it. Her stomach lurched and her hand came to her mouth, her eyes widening as she viewed the cages around her. The people inside them were silent. Chained to the wall not even bothering to look at her or at the display as it seemed they'd long since accepted their fate. She stood then, wobbly on her feet, as she'd looked to her companion. She'd called his name as she'd done countless times before and he ignored her instead choosing to yank one of the doors open with impressive strength. The sound of the metal tearing and lock bolt snapping was painful to her ears and they flattened down against her skull. She winced and watched him move toward the helpless man within the cage. A feeling of dread came over her. She knew what was about to happen yet she couldn't make herself move. She stood frozen in place watching as her companion took the bound man's face in his hands, holding his head tightly as he tore it from his body. She could hear the delicate bones snapping and she watched the veins and tendons tear from the base of his neck. She merely stared in wide-eyed terror as the blood-spray covered her clothes and face. Several seconds passed before she'd gathered herself enough to scream in horror. She bolted from the room in pure adrenaline-powered flight, caring not for anything or anyone in her way until she escaped. She heard them then, the loud thudding footsteps behind her. He was chasing her. She emitted a sob as she ran for all she was worth, following the same blood trail back up the maze of tunnels that led her down here. However, her former companion behind her was more monster than man now, his speed overtaking hers easily. In a move of desperation, her hand moved to her pearl as she ran, calling the only man she knew would have a prayer against what was tailing her.

I would be all for a system like this provided everyone involved agrees to it and knows exactly what the limits are and why they are agreeing to it. I am a fan of free form combat but I've seen some people get...well. There is no other words except "godmodey". I really only try to do it with those I trust. Dice can suck without modifiers. There is no reason whatsoever the barmaid with no combat experience should be able to evade a hit from a battle seasoned character or land a decent blow on them. If a group of people work out a system like this that works for them then go for it.

I know a dude that RP's one of the Allegan chairs as a toilet. He's about ERP so he'll like....get done with it then go over and RP using it with the other person still laying in the bed. I wish I was making this up.

/flies in wearing a cape made out of gil-pieces, with gil earrings, and large gil-coin sunglasses. I COME BEARING LORE! =D -Source So gil coins are engraved with the faces of the Twelve as well as the leaders of the Eorzean city-states for the past 100 years. 5 years ago, new gil was put into circulation bearing the profiles of the three Grand Company leaders for promotional purposes. As for what metal gil is made out of, I defer to this: So... copper? Also, in regards to the fact that we can still turn in Allagan pieces found in dungeons for gil exchange, I imagine there are still places in the world (possibly black market) which would accept Allagan minted pieces as acceptable exchange. Also, each Beast Tribe has their own form of currency. So if your character does trade with the Beast Tribes, you might also have a stash of their currencies.
-
There really is no information on gil that I'm aware of. Is Eorzea on some sort of metal standard? Do they use gold? What IS gil? What is it made of? Where did it come from? Why is it valuable and what is it valued at? All of this is pretty much a question mark. If I absolutely -have- to specify an amount in game I make an OOC note that I am using an American exchange rate. There is just nothing else on the books that I've seen that I'd be comfortable using. Most RP can be accomplished without getting into that nitty gritty anyway since a lot of people don't actually exchange gil in RP aside from perhaps tips etc. Vender prices vs. Market Board prices are heavily skewed as well. The amount of gil someone will have in their purse is likely highly more than any normal merchant will ask for so is everyone just super rich?

Let's see... Racketeering, Smuggling, Laundering, Larceny, Embezzlement, Arson, Destruction of Property, Murder and conspiracy for murder... Due to her upbringing, the list above is pretty "normal" and par for the course for her and she's yet to have to do anything that would truly make her feel like a monster in her twisted scope of the world. She keeps managing to walk this razor thin edge of keeping her personality intact and tumbling off the edge and having to face what she is, largely due to the people around her understanding better than she does of what it would do to her and refusing to let it happen by taking the burden upon themselves. Yep. Ros is a dirtbag that enjoys rolling in dirt that is filthier than she is.

Completely agree with the bolded. Natalie made a post a while back I liked a lot. (Paraphrasing) --> There are a couple different types of RPer but they can largely be broken down into "Story-Driven" and "The Porno Camp." I thought this was accurate.

I don't wholly agree with this. Depending on the maturity levels of the players involved, ERP can definitely have it's place in the character development department. A lot of mental and emotional barriers people keep up naturally tend to fall in that scenario and it serves an opportunity for growth in a relationship + pillow talk and whatnot. Just my 2 cents.
