I think it was obvious from the context that you didn't mean it quite the way people took it. Took on a little life of its own <3

City-wide RP plots (split from Limsa Lominsa RP Connections)
Roswyn replied to FreelanceWizard's topic in RP Discussion
I think it just really comes down to mutual consideration for other people. I haven't seen anyone in the Ul'dah plotline shoving the events around and I haven't really heard of anyone feeling that their RP is squelched because of it. Regardless of ANY RP event as long as you have consideration for other people you'll be fine. One can argue though that having HUGE events like an attack on Ul'dah is inherently disrespectful to the canon and to other rpers. I can see both sides of this one. To the people involved, it's fun to actually have something be at stake and see how it affects your character. To those not involved, they might just see "Oh, that's the guy who always doing OP stuff." The co-existance of these two mindsets can be....difficult. But that doesn't make either side "right or wrong". Live and let live. If it doesn't affect your character then move along and those involved should let you move along and we all go on to drink at the QS another day. -

Tiergan's Thread of Shameless Self-Promotion [No Commissions. Apologies.]

Omg I can't...it's so good. I'm so sad commissions are closed. ;_; -
This sounds VERY interesting

I think it's also important to keep in perspective what your character would be truly capable of. I would think after intensely healing a deep wound or multiple people the conjuror would be fairly wiped out for a while as you are literally using your body as a conduit for aether. Perhaps it might not affect a white mage that way but you can't play one of those because you can't be a Padjal. I tend to play Ros with that sort of limitation. Yes, she can heal but if she gets pushed past her limits she stands a chance at falling over from exhaustion.
-
I feel your character would have a very short lifespan. The whole idea with Sylphie was she was eating away at her own life in order to use her abilities. After a few years of using her abilities your character would fall over. It's almost too strong of a handicap to call yourself a conjuror. My character is a novice conjurer. She can manage with external injuries (and she had a bunch of practice as of late..) but when it comes to internal wounds and *gasp* raising she tends to bork it. The one time she tried raising someone she did it incorrectly and almost ended up killing herself. She can't see an incapacitated person now without freaking out that she's going to have to try again and mess up. There is a lot of confusion regarding Raise as well but that is a subject for another thread. I'd suggest giving A'ria a little more room to breathe. Maybe she's in the process of learning how to pull aether to use for her spells. Instead of literally chopping years off her life. Sounds like a very punishing role to play and any other characters that become close to her would naturally urge her to stop.

What is the most appealing kind of character to you?
Roswyn replied to Enzo's topic in RP Discussion
Unfortunately Kage's a tall(er-than-lalafell-but-still-shorter-than-other-males) Sunny Miqo'te. Kage's colours are so appealing though. I bet he tastes like a fruit roll-up. -

I have a weakness for the tall, dark and handsome. It's a disease. :dodgy: -
Does anyone have one of these I can rest on for awhile? She has the vapors

o_o You're sooooo talented. :bouncy::bouncy: -
If I still lived in Vegas maybe. I hate that city with a damn passion.... Nice that it's at the Rio though I always thought it was a little better than the stuff right on the strip itself.

Defenders of Eorzea - Patch 2.3 Notes (Full Release)

Can't...log in.....must do...classwork things.... *sob* -
I HATE weddings IRL but I find myself chomping at the bit for this...

I've noticed that when it comes to my character when it rains it pours. During these times I can get bummed oocly and want to log in less because I don't really want to go into the mindset of my character while she's upset about whatever events just transpired. Like coming home from whatever and now I log in and...Oh right. THAT happened. Ick. This is why, when it comes to character altering events, I always ask people in RP ((Are you SURE you want this to happen? Ok then.)) And I let them make the choice about the event because it's their character. At the end of the day I RP to have fun and I'm sure other people do too and a little OOC communication can go a long way.

When I was leveling my first character I was rather taken aback at the amount of rape and implied rape there is in this game in quests. What shocked me even more was when I brought it up to my FC no one else seemed to remember it. :dodgy: Think about that one. I really disliked the way Squeenix used rape to drive it quests in FF14. (Ala Migo and Ishgard and two places that come to mind that had these quests.) It massively destroyed my immersion. Here I am, playing this awesome strong female character. She's this warrior of light collecting these crystals and defeating the Garleans and....oh. Rape. Great. Always against females too. I get the feeling that Squeenix wants to have the convenience of placing woman in strong roles while at the same time subtly reminding us that they are physically weaker. Or the "majority" are weaker. MMO's like WoW head this off at the pass by blatantly saying in the game manual that there is no difference between males and females stat-wise in Azeroth. As far as I am aware, FF14 makes no such distinction.

Observing in public for educational purposes is something I think everyone new to Rp should do or those getting back into it for a while. Observing for the purpose of gathering IC knowledge is a little different though. I always try to emote something so people "know" Ros is active ICly and listening to them to give them a chance to reply. IMO it's kinda dick to just stand there silently then turn around and be like "Oh, I heard you that night." Ex: Roswyn leans against the nearby pillar, eyes focused ahead and her ears pricked forward. She occasionally peers to her right, sipping her drink in hand before looking ahead again. It's too easy for people to assume you're afk/chatting in LS/tabbed out etc.

I think it largely has to do with the OOC notion of wanting to be where the people are or the action is. ICly though I tend to think it makes sense. I tend to view Ul'dah as the Eorzen equivalent of LA or NY. It's where people go to see and be seen. If you want a specific item or information that would be where you would go. Everyone from the rich to the poor, the Mob Boss to the small fry trying to make a name for himself. It's not too much of a stretch for me ICly for folk to gather there and for it to need a decent police force. ....*cough*

I'll be completely honest and say I am totally, utterly and wholeheartedly against this. A lot of things people don't think about is how everyone else has to act/RP around you now because of the massive change. It's literally waking up one day and you're a different race and look 100% different. It will have MASSIVE detrimental effects on your character's relationships with others. How is your lover supposed to feel when they look at you and see someone they don't recognize? What about family or children when they don't recognize their mother/father? How would your friends and colleagues build the rapport and trust back up again? It utterly makes NO sense and no one really roleplays it correctly. It forces a certain amount of blending into the RP that I am not comfortable with because I, as a player, understand full well that a Fantasia was used but my character won't recognize this person if she walked by them in Ul'dah. So unless the Fantasa'd character approaches her she'd think they vanished unless she heard a rumour etc. Even in this world with magic, there is really no precedent for this kind of radical change. My character would be forced to assume it's some sort of ploy or trick or the person had straight lost their mind. Unless there was some motivation or ulterior motivation, she would disassociate. In reality, if this happened to you, you would be massively alienated and this never seems to occur with Fantasia'd characters. People just carry on after about one day of weirdness which is utterly unrealistic. I would be willing to entertain the idea of some sort of epic tale around it but the scope of people who would be involved in figuring out what happened is much smaller than the amount of people the Fantasia will actually affect. In short, the majority of people your character interacts with will always be left wondering why you're 2 feet tall now unless you tell straight them which is....heavy handed RP to say the least. TL;DR Roll a new character. Don't force everyone around you to focus on your change. Fantasia can DIAF.

I need to add new people really badly... -
MY FC was having an event in the FC house and someone advertised it in an LS. Griefers came and trashed the event and due to housing controls we couldn't get them out without tossing out the people we wanted there as well. Ruined the event in my opinion. I see it in Ul'dah too. I can Blist someone all day and not see their spam but when a gigantic Roe is sitting on my character so I can't even see her model... Yeah. It's been happening more and more unfortunately.

I honestly had no idea who would voice Ros but Kayah knows her character pretty well and suggested this  : yj1wWPIaKfo

You can play a villainous character and not fall into the automatic dichotomy of "good" vs "evil". Perhaps your character is just morally gray enough to swing far enough to one side but even to them there are things they won't do. People in real life are never just one swath of light or dark. There are shades of grey everywhere and I think that's important to remember if you're creating a character that will be more morally "grey". There are very very few individuals out there who would subscribe to your "Chaotic Evil" archetype and a villainous character doesn't necessarily have to fall into that category. Even Neutral Evil villains require a motivation to be swayed to perform acts of violence and they are capable of love and tender relationship with others. Personally, I enjoy RPing out the human condition. What has happened to your character to begin walking them down this path? Who is around them that is influencing them? Can they change this? Do they WANT to change this? And how do they feel about their actions thus far and how would they feel if it got worse? These are all questions and aspects that should be asked and considered by you and even your character. You might be surprised at the answers you get back. It's important to note that a character can start out more on the good side and meet the "wrong" kinds of people and be introduced into situations and they will gradually sink into more villainy unless they make serious efforts to remove themselves from the situation - just like in real life. "Oh, Jimmy got in with a bad crowd.." At the end of they day, your villain is still a "person" and should be treated and played as such instead of just a plot device if you want a decent character. They will have strengths and weaknesses, loves and desires, successes and failures. They will also have people around them who will experience these highs and lows with them. I think that makes a multi-facated and interesting villain.
