  1. These are all the reasons I like paragraph roleplay. A lot of too-important folks use it to try and prop themselves up as elite, and that sucks. We're all writing fan fiction, people. None of us are better than anyone else!
  2. This one is a huge point, in my opinion. While it's good to flex vocabulary a little, there's not a lot to be gained by "evasive language". My experience with players who go especially purple with their prose is that they're not as interested in storytelling (or story-participating) as they are in trying to feel superior to others (or inversely, cause others to feel inferior) as a power complex by way of attempting to demonstrate how superior they are at writing. Might not be true of everyone, I just speak from my own experience with people like that. Word. These are the people who fancy themselves as authors yet never write anything. Not all ParaRPers, naturally. It's just the actively shitty ones that spoil the tag for everyone else.
  3. I'm wary of anyone who tags themselves as a ParaRPer. It's nothing against the type, but my experience have taught me that I can safely AFK for 12+ minutes between posts and then return to a thesaurus' worth of alternate words used to describe things readily visible on their character. As a minor tangent: Usage of "orbs" "hues" and "spheres" when referring to your eyes. Just stop.
  4. Tonight! Grindstone number 209! 57 people turned out to beat each other up, and only one man returned to the top! Congratulations to Denz De'bayle on his victory, defeating Tetebino Hihibino in what feels like the lalafells billionth time to the finals! Next time, my friend! Did you know next week the Grindstone turns four? Holy shit!
  5. The 208th Grindstone is complete! Just in time for the end of the world tomorrow. Congratulations to November Luckberry on winning the Grindstone in their debut appearance! I swear, that happens so often...
  6. We're back! Despite no update last week we did hold the Grindstone again, and we crowned a new winner in Livicette Rillemont! Pictured below with Sunlit Glint lounging in the background! And tonight we crowned winner #207! Annunu Nunu Some hooded lalafell! Muscle Mog popped by to photobomb as well.
  7. Another week, another Grindstone! 51 people gathered at the Wash for the chance to maul each other and they were not disappointed! Congratulations to Taylor Vespon on his victory!
  8. 1) The Sultana. Warren fights for Ul'dah. 2) Warren!IRL is not convinced there could possibly be diplomacy involving those people. Warren!ICly would probably attempt to suggest they coexist peacefully, and when that didn't work, he'd reluctantly draw his sword to settle things. Proverbially, and all. 3) This is a tough one. Warren himself prefers the peasant-style of comfy robes and clothing, but there's a degree of... legitimacy? that comes from business casual and above. He usually dresses professionally (but not super formal!) when going out, so probably that.
  9. I can't stress enough how excited I am for that shirt, as I sit here posting this wearing the AGDQ 150cc Mario Kart shirt.
  10. motherfucker 1) Coconut anything. 2) Red. 3) Open a self-defense school. Run a gym. Or guard duty. Whichever is most practical at the time. Questions for Warren: 1. Do you play an instrument? ii] What is your favourite animal? Three: Political power grows from the tip of a sword. Agree or disagree? 1) Warren does not play an instrument aside from the generic masturbation jokes. 1a) He wishes he could play a string instrument, possibly a violin. 2) Warren is partials to aldgoats and apkallu. 3) Political power grows opposite the tip of the sword. Those who can, will, so long as they do not get executed.
  11. Nope. Too bad. 1) Your favorite food 2) Your favorite color 3) The war is over. What do you do for a living, as soldiers and adventurers are phased out?
  12. Another night, another 50 people assembled in the desert to beat the piss out of each other! Three and a half hours after the bell rang, we're happy to announce our newest Grindstone champion: Lily Verlial! Lily is another newcomer who managed to debut by knocking off the whole contest. Congratulations!
  13. Warren spawns a PVP FATE on a 7-day cooldown.
  14. The 203rd Grindstone is in the books! The Authors of Pain finally were dethroned by Sanity, and we crowned a new champion in Drew Gall- Wait, wrong Saturday night fight event! Exactly 48 fighters turned up for a battle, and after three grueling hours of combat we are glad to name Keira Rioux as our new champion!
  15. Grindstone #202! We finished before 2AM for once, and in a night that involved 53 people that's a win in my book! Congratulations to Reika Yuzuka on winning this week's contest!
  16. Grindstone #201! Done, finished, complete! 53 fighters! Congratulations to the first champion of the New Prize Money Era: Ramona Zale!
  17. Dice systems are a blessing and a curse. They provide insulation again the stereotypical powergamer that everyone's got stories about: The numbers are plain on who wins whichever exchange or action, and reneging on those make you look like a chump. The trouble with that, as mentioned, is that that's only reliable if the exchange is already able to go in one direction or the other. A trained soldier who served in the 1000 Year War and then across the Wall losing to a 14 year old kid with a knife? Yeah... Entirely possible in a /random system. There are ways around that, kind of. One of the systems I was curious as to play with was where you play the numbers game with your results: /random, and then add those numbers together until you get a single digit number. So if someone rolls a 127, and someone else rolls a 932? 1+2+7= 9 versus 9+3+2=14, 1+4=5. 127 beats 932 when using arbitrary rules to reduce numbers to one digit. It helps level out the randomness while throwing an entirely new curve to the randomness. Mostly, it would exist to make low number rolls not be so poorly received. I think it comes down to trust. The more I trust someone to cooperate to tell a story with me, the less concerned I am about using dice to keep things "fair." Freeform RP is preferable but not everyone wants to ever give up a single attack or exchange. There's no catch-all system for this kind of thing, you should really just communicate with your RP partners to discover a middle ground of what works for everyone.
  18. Grindstone #199! We had 46 people turn up for fighting, and the end result was NEPOTISM as usual Grindstone healer Subtle Raptor won the whole damned thing with a bag full of rocks! NEXT WEEK! Grindstone #200! We'll be reopening the fight bids once more and the Whetstone will be up for grabs to whomever offers the most for it. If you've ever wanted to pick a fight with someone at the Grindstone, this is one of the rare chances anyone has to directly set up the match. So long as that person is actually amenable to the combat, you get your match if you put up the most gil for that person. If you're into that sort of thing, this also includes the people who stand around all hoity-toity on the rock. So, what do we do with all of this money? I put it into a big pile, documenting all of the incoming bucks on the spreadsheet (that's linked in my signature block, on the "Bids" tab!) and then dole out money to the winners of the Grindstone. We've got a long history of transparency and honest, as evidenced in the spreadsheets in my sig block: All of the winnings are accounted for and doled out! How do I know you're not just going to take this and transfer servers? You don't! If anything, take solace in the fact that you can't take more than 1m with you if you jump servers! I don't fight at the Grindstone, but I want to give you money anyway because I'm a crazy person! ...okay! Get a hold of me via PM so we can arrange when to do the drop-off, all spy-like. If you want it to be OOC, that's fine! ICly might be a bit harder given the "we have no actual investors" fluff going on at the moment, but talk to me. We'll work something out. We're also happy to continue to test The Whetsone. WHAT EXACTLY DOES THIS ENTAIL Whomever winds up with possession of The Whetstone will have the ability to insert themselves in the final round of the Grindstone, no muss no fuss, even if they've already been eliminated for the night. There's more to it, but that's only pertinent to the holder. HOW DO I OBTAIN THIS WONDERFUL PRIZE The night of the auctions, I will be taking entirely blind bids for this item. I will not be updating the tracker or announcing the current top bid, and I will not be telling anyone who is winning until bids close. If you want this item, you must offer what you think it is worth. I do have a reserve in mind of what I think would be a fair price for it, so don't try to scoop it for 25 gil! Or do, I guess, but that probably won't work if last time is a precedent.
  19. Oh, and as far as sharing names: I know of at least one NPC named Osric, someone PM Melkire and tell him he's illegal now. Or go read about the time some guy on twitter named @mikepence got chewed out during the election cycle because they thought he was @mike_pence or the lawer guy named Donald Trump down in Texas or something who gets hate mail. One Steve Limit, people.
  20. Someone tell this guy he's not allowed to have that name, it's not canon for Earth. ...really, I don't ever sweat people who complain about non-compliant names. People can call themselves whatever they want, in real life or in fake ones.
  21. The Grindstone in July! Still in the wake of the expansion, we had a respectable 44 people turn up for fighting! After all was said and done, we crowned a new champion in Talan Dracht!
  22. I live, I die, I live again! Tonight saw the redemption of the Whetstone! Congratulations to Oliver Delvants for fending off both tournament foe and outside opponent! The Whetstone has been turned in! The stage is set for Grindstone #200 which will be taking place on July 29th! We'll be doing the usual Money Where Your Mouth Is fight auction offer and the Whetstone will be back up for blind-auction!
