  1. RP really can be a wonder. Be sure to check out the linkshells and fcs for gilgamesh (found here). There are tons of friendly folks from that server, and I've heard that sometimes you need to reach out to find the rp, but once you do it's great! Welcome to the RPC, and I hope you have a wonderful time!!
  2. Limsa? PICK ME, PICK ME! My character is a scallywag herself, and if you'd like to be pulled into the fray just give me a holler. Here's something fun, too Welcome to the RPC!
  3. If you just tried it today, try waiting until a weekday morning to get in, as it's less likely for players to be playing early (due to work or summer classes) during weekdays. 6-7am Pacific is when I've had luck in the past -- but during weekday mornings.
  4. First, I want to reassure Free and anyone else who is leery about city-wide plots that it is genuinely not my intention to sorta encourage people to conform to something over anything else. Whenever I do plotting, or have something unique to my character, I always try to leave outs for other people (example: the stuff I'm doing with ShayRei, Path, and everyone else -- we've set things up in a particular way, but if a player comes along who doesn't like the stretching we've done with the lore, it's open enough that we can kinda skirt around those bits so the player who doesn't like them doesn't have to interact with them) in case it's something they don't want involvement in. Granted, nothing is perfect, but that's what I got. So, in this case, kinda piggybacking on what ArmachiA said, it isn't to define the parameters of the city, but to create a small space that feels alive and interactive. A place where your character can find connections easily, and get involved in something that's already running if you want to, while still being free to start your own plot bits and be supported and have people in place who you can connect with. Granted, yes, it's impossible to do anything that will appeal to everyone equally, but I honestly do want to give it the ol' college try. Sort of one of those things that, ideally, a new rper to the server/city could get involved in easily but, at the same time, get out of if it doesn't suit them. That's why one of my first ideas was some sort of treasure hunt. It can touch on all sorts of people (the hunters themselves, people who are called upon for expertise, people selling secrets, maybe law-types trying to protect bystanders and/or get rid of contraband treasure bits, etc) and still be easy to get into (you'd hear rumors everywhere in the city) and get out of (interpersonal character issues aside). Beyond that, I've been thinking about what Freelance said (starting with rp hotspots), and I think, honestly, that we can do both. Because, when it comes down to it, it's easier to get more people involved when they know or have at least been around each other. If we all do our individual rp in one concentrated location for awhile, our characters will see and become familiar with each other to some extent. As a result, we'd be able to nudge out little rp cues easier. There'd be something of a core (not a clique, and there is a difference) to help push things along that would be relied upon, and then we could spread out and reel in those who weren't aware of said hotspots or plot options. So, I dunno, what do you guys think about focusing on a hot spot first for a little while, and once we get regular activity then switch over to plot-talk? Re: Yellowjackets One way to avoid the I'd-rather-not-deal-with-player-run-city-stuff thing would be to have Ruru and whoever joins him (please join him) create a fuckup unit. That way, citizen characters could just brush them off (oh, it's just you guys. I'll report you to your sergeant for harassing me) if they didn't want to deal with them, while players like me who are looking for a more active antagonist presence (in the form of policing) would have it. Best of both worlds, maybe? Good idea, bad idea?
  5. Back to the main topic for meee (sorry magic admin hat guy :< ): I think for this particular conundrum, you need to decide what you want to be the focus of your rp: are you really in love with the idea of your character drawing from her own aether, or are you more focused on her having issues with the conjuring from the elements, and it doesn't really matter the cause? At the end of the day, you're the one who needs to be most happy with what you're writing. If you really want the drawing from her own aether bit, then maybe try asking, "how can I make this work with the lore?" >> because I've found that sometimes it's easier to ask forgiveness rather than permission. *constantly making up new places to drag people to in Limsa. Constantly.*
  6. I never mentioned anyone specifically in this thread avoiding me, but I have noticed an increase of people genuinely going out of their way to avoid talking to me. Yes, I asked for advice, but there are people who have seemed as if my newness to the lore has been an inconvenience to them or a complete turn off. My point isn't that I'm upset that people didn't agree (there were also as many people saying the concept was fine as people not so I really could care less one way or the other), it's that someone else who may be newer than even I might find the treatment and responses as a complete turnoff to other RPers. I know several people have approached me after this thread telling me that they're afraid to voice questions and concerns because they're afraid they'll get jumped or make someone angry and that is what I mean by breast feeding. People shouldn't have to change characters constantly to appease the ones that disagree. I have mentioned that I am grateful for the help and I mean it. However, I didn't post this as a way for people to determine if I'm an irredeemable RPer and that feels like the outcome. Rp drama is the most common drama out of all the online community groups I've been in. Why? Creating and building stories is personal. When things feel personal, emotional investment happens. It's human nature. And when you invest your emotions into it, sometimes trying to be helpful feels like you're trying to save someone from making a mistake -- and so people might appear to be forceful, or condescending, or even like they're condemning you, the player, for some idea you've had. And, for what it's worth, there are people like that out there -- but from what I've seen in this community, I don't think there are very many (note that I have not experienced any personally, but I haven't met/seen everyone in the community). But it can be very easy to feel attacked and respond in kind when you are very close to your ideas. I think as writers, roleplayers can sometimes get the two mixed up, both when trying to offer constructive criticism to someone, and in receiving it. And even when it isn't mixed up, sometimes the way things are worded can be misunderstood, or written in a way that seems like something is implied. It might even seem like an obvious attack to everyone but the person writing it. In those moments, that's where it's important to remember that rping is a social hobby. A very social hobby. Communicating is very important. Rather than give in to the emotional reaction, try sending someone a pm to clarify things. All too often I see people -- sometimes especially at my workplace, which is very unfortunate considering it's non-profit and supposed to be a very supportive and understanding environment -- assume someone meant something negative rather than trying to clarify, ending in way too much negativity. It really saddens me to see it happen. I mean, if someone is legit mean-spirited, then you'll get that even after trying to understand them. But unless you give them the chance, how are you going to know? My point is this: take the advice as people legitimately trying to steer you away from things they consider to be hurtful to the lore. Take it as them trying to help -- even if in the end you don't feel that it is helpful. You don't have to accept advice, ever. However, in the spirit of community, even if you don't like the advice try to be thankful that at the very least, people are trying to help. Thank them for their time and move on. If you truly feel someone is attacking you or being unfair, talk to them. If they don't let you talk to them, then move on -- you don't need them. Lingering on it will only hurt you in the end, and there are so many wonderful and worthwhile people to rp with out there.
  7. Jingi was jolted back several steps. If she'd been wearing anything other than her flat, worn shoes (the ones she wore on days when she was simply too tired to consider the necessities of fashion or a businesslike appearance), it was likely she would have ended up flat on her rear. But she caught her balance, and looked over at the person who'd run into her. She was surprised, and a little embarrassed at how little she was paying attention to her surroundings. Noki would have scolded her for it. Especially at night. "I'm sorry!" She blurted over the top of his own apology, and cracked a self-conscious smile. "I'm okay, I'm okay! Are you -- oh no, your map!" Self-consciousness turned to horror, and she bypassed his hand to reach out and lightly touch one of the halves. "I am such a bumbling idiot sometimes, I am so sorry -- may I buy you a replacement?" She looked up at him, and saw his face for the first time. She flushed.
  8. GYR! I was wondering just the other day where you'd got off to -- hadn't seen you posting lately. That super super sucks about the SE nastiness -- I have my fingers crossed that I never have to use it, and that you are able to contact someone who is actively helpful and cares about finding you a solution. Wish I could do more, really.
  9. Old? We talking 40s? 50s? I must know. Welcome to the RPC! I hope you stumble over all sorts of rp in your travels.
  10. Zhi may or may not be contemplating killing Ruru and eating him. He is sooooo tired of her shit. Dodo? Dodo. Double the pleasure, double the motherfuckin' attitude. He tried to give her a box. She threw it on the ground, he overreacted. Apparently /disappointed puts a male hyur right at Zhi's crotch level. The more you know!
  11. Aaaaand moment gone. Zhi's face puckered up, the pencil slowly retracted and then lowered to the paper. She hadn't given up just yet, but there was certainly some bit of wariness about her. She mouthed the first syllable of his name a few times. Her lower lip protruded. Defeat loomed, but she would not cave in so easily! ". . .Z?"
  12. Zhi jerked her chin upwards at him, grinning like a fool. "Big lad like yerself? I think I can handle it, hey?" Grease pencil clenched in one fist, she brought her hands up and jabbed a few times in the space between them. "Oy, oy, lay't on me. What was it again? Chocobo?" She switched her grip on the pencil, pointed it towards his face as if it was a knife and she planned to stick him with it. For that moment, for that breath of time, she was just Zhi.
  13. I realized that the first post made it kinda sound like I don't want individual characters posting in this thread at all (I do, just not for character templates so as not to overlap with the Limsa Directory), so I edited to clarify. Do post in here if you have rp or want to get involved with rp or have an idea for rp in Limsa Lominsa! In that vein... Limsa Lominsa Wide RP Brainstorming I was talking with ArmachiA, and she suggested we maybe try to open a bit of discussion on various ideas for rp that various people (in FCs, out of FCs, whatever) could participate in that would take place throughout Limsa Lominsa so we can get more open street/dock rp! What We've Got Some things the city offers: Pirates Smuggling Reform Big trade port Loot Mealvaan's Gate Foodies Fishermen What the various groups (not counting individual contributions -- if you have an idea or thing your character does in Limsa, please do speak up) offer: Magical expertise Tavern Protection focused groups Pirates Companions Merchants Possibly entertainers (waiting on a reply back; not sure if still active) What we need: A "local" hangout, so to speak, something that when people say "I'm having a hard time finding rp in Limsa" we can point out "oh, have you tried going to ____ ?" This is something that will need to be developed organically as well as theoretically; we can posit places all day, but if no one actually goes there, it won't happen. One idea would be the Rum'n'Rumble, but the major drawback to that is that it's difficult for new rpers who aren't on the RPC to stumble across it, and would take rp away from the streets. I'm not particularly fond of the Wench or Bismark, but there is that little gem tucked away next to the aftcastle: The Missing Member. Major drawback? It's cramped. But it does feature balconies! What about you guys? What are your favorite places in Limsa to rp or, barring that, favorite places that you wish you could find more rp in? Ideas I love tossing ideas back and forth, so please do throw out some of your own! Some very basic seeds I had in my head that could maybe develop into something greater: Bounties Treasure hunting (details would need to be ironed out, and someone would need to be willing to take helm, but it would be neat for there to be a pot at the end of the rainbow for those who find it) Disappearances potentially tied in to some sort of magical whatsits. Murdering something on the loose (would need someone to play the murdering something) -- double whammy: have the murdering something hanging out in revitalized hangout spot, and people need to figure out who and how. Possibly allow for eventual capture + turning into authorities end in escape Carnival. Everyone loves carnivals, right? Especially when they involve booze and wenches, yo ho! Mysterious artifact with some sort of magical application that causes Negative Whatever that keeps popping up and disappearing. So there you have it. Suggestions, ideas, running wildly around shouting random things in the hopes that something sticks are welcome -- I'll take all of it.
  14. I see Unsung Heroes folks running about all the time! Always a pleasure to have another rper come 'round to the forums to muck about. I'm with Razz -- you ever want to play around in Limsa, you give ol' Zhavi Streetrunner a holler. :3 Welcome to the RPC! (assuming timezones match) (timezones suck)
  15. That is way, way cool. Thanks for sharing, I doubt I would've seen this otherwise. (why did I make zhi hate chocobos whyyyyyy ;_; )
  16. "Ain't seen you afore. Whaddya want? Why're you harassin' one o' th'Hander's own?" The man was eying the Cap'n and Zhi with the sort of look that suggested he was thinking of all the myriad ways he could kill them and hide the bodies. It was a common way of looking at people in that side of town. Not. . .exactly what Zhi'd had in mind, but the dice had been cast and there wasn't anything to do but wait and see how it all panned out. She kept her bored expression in place, though she did shift so she was facing the newcomer. As long as no one drew a weapon, things could still fall out the way they were supposed to. She started to sweat under the heat of the sun. Come on, Nald'thal, tip it this way. . ..
  17. It's possible, too, that you can always get involved in the activities of FC rps without actually joining one -- and you'll still have access to linkshells. All you have to do sometimes is just reach out and ask!
  18. Zhi rolled her eyes, loosing a sigh that made an art of exasperation. "L-O. . .L-O," she muttered the letters under her breath as she bent back to the paper. "Taru. Tuh . . .T? Taru. . .A. . .ruh -- R? Right? I'm right, ain't I, an' . . ." Her lips formed an o, and for a moment there was such an expression of delight on her face that it erased a few of the years cynicism and exhaustion had put into her bearing. "U." The delight turned fiendish, and smug. Ever so smug.
  19. Zhi had no qualms about sleeping double with another person in the bed -- she had a dagger, after all, and wasn't afraid to use it if anything that she didn't like should happen. Not that it was likely to happen, but the dagger and her own pragmatism had long since chased away any anxiety she might have otherwise felt. As for propriety, well, that had been gone much longer. If she'd ever had it to begin with. Had she? She honestly couldn't remember. Her stomach growled. Zhi pushed and pulled herself out of the bed with several moans and epithets and piteous whines, and strode over to the door. She opened it, leaned out, and caught the girl (besotted fool) quickly walking away. "Oy. Leila. Yeah, talkin' t'ye. Ye want yer coin? Go buy me food."
  20. Three cheers for trashy smut books -- wait what? I mean, welcome to the RPC! If you're having trouble finding rp and rpers via walking around the world, don't be afraid to take a gander around the Linkshell/FC area, or the wiki to set up something through PMs or whatnot. People here are very friendly to random pms asking to rp (I know this through personal experience), and are just gosh darn friendly in general. It's a lovely community -- I'm sure you'll be involved in no time! Happy writing.
  21. If things move along for you and the rp gets to a point ready to share with outsiders, you should *coughcough* post in the Limsa connections thread *cough* here. *coughcough*
  22. A subvocal growl was Jager's reply to his demand, and then a grudging shift to the side. But not by too much. "No. I've others in on th'take, lookin' t'sweeten th'pot afore I move. Ain't feckin' this take, Jager. Yer own stubborn ass prattlin' at me or no." She eyed him askance, more for the itching than the idiotic way he was acting. She hadn't been itching all that much. Why was he? She slowly scooted a bit further away from him.
  23. Sunlight stabbed Jngibiargh "Jingi" Fletch in the eyes as she bent one more time to the expenses ledger and accompanying receipts spread out over her expansive desk. She winced. The chair creaked as she straightened. The sun was setting; she'd miss dinner again at her boarding house. The chair creaked again as she leaned back with a sigh. It took effort to get up and light the lamps set about the room, close the curtains, and resume her seat at her desk. The room was a comfortable cage. Tastefully decorated without exhibiting a single sign of wealth, it was supposed to be Oda's office, tucked in alongside Tabart's in the house they'd leased. The house that had formerly housed their prostitution business before their writ had been taken away. Jaded was a sinking ship. Jingi sat back down. She took up her pen, pulled one of the lamps closer, and resumed her task. Expenses were mounting, and income was dwindling. She'd had to resort to fancy juggling to keep the accounts balanced and them out of debt. It was unlikely either Tabart or Oda could appreciate the twisting schemes she'd undergone with their account books in order to keep them floating, the places she'd visited, deals she'd made. Oh, it was nothing illegal or unscrupulous, but it had required her to bend her head and speak softly and piteously. Tabart had always hated it when any of them did that. He didn't understand business or necessity. He had his pride, and they all had a home to belong to. One that was sinking. She caught her tongue between her teeth as she worked, and the next time she became conscious of time and space she found her nose nearly pressed to the paper. She blinked, leaned back (damnable creak), and realized that her lamp had nearly burned out. Exasperated, she got up to fetch the oil (really, it was a simple job and one she should not have to do herself, considering they had a boy they kept on specifically for such small tasks -- one she had protested about taking on, but one Oda had insisted they keep, considering he "had no other place to go" as Oda had said, no matter that they did not have the funds necessary to keep the boy properly fed and clothed, much less provided with a small stipend for his work) and realized that full night had fallen. "Oh, blast and list -- " the office was small, and cluttered. She stubbed her foot twice getting to the supply cabinet, and once there found that the oil reservoir was empty. She stared at it in disbelief, took a nice, long deep breath -- it is not worth getting irate over, it is not worth having a fit of temper, it is not worth fuss -- and blew it out. She was tired, and cranky, and building up resentment on the boy would not help the matter a whit. He hated asking for help when he didn't know what to do, and when faced with an empty reservoir he would likely ignore the problem. She could correct it on the morrow. Which would come all too soon. With one last mournful glance cast at the ledger (she was almost done, too), Jingi blew out the lamps save one, and navigated her way out of the office. She locked it behind her, and walked the hallways back to the front. The doxies still plied their trade in the house. They had to. However, with their lack of writ they'd had to start operating as a massage parlor, of all things. The doxies still did what they did best, but under the front of massages. As if that wasn't the oldest crock in the book, but they had managed. Somehow. The thought of Heaven's Gate crossed her mind, but she banished it to the back; it did no good to blame their rivals for something that had happened long ago, but she as all of them did fervently wish to take back the writ no matter the cost. No matter the method. . . Jingi was uneasy as she bid the night's receiving girl farewell and stepped out into the evening air. Her body's needs -- so long repressed throughout the day -- asserted themselves so fiercely that she could not help but slump. What a day, what a day.
  24. That had whole heaps of uses she hadn't considered before. Zhi pursed her lips and said "an' how is his name spelled?"
  25. Oh. No. He. Didn't. True, Zhi picked up the coins automatically (habit from a lifetime spent scrounging for money would do that to you), but that didn't stop her ears from folding flat to her head, or a line of fur down her tail from puffing up. She pulled one of her legs back and jerked it forward, aiming at arm or side or hip or whatever was open to being pushed at by a foot. "Ruttin' scrag, has yer cock scrambled yer head fer true? I can't leave th'room until I'm ready t'go an' see Lalataru! Ain't gonna risk bein' seen an' bendin' me own take over fer a blimmin' ass-ruttin'! Are ye deaf or jes daft?"
