"More like lackwit. I'm still talkin' t'ye, ain't I? If yer gonna be useless, go an' get me some grub. Shit. Like I want t'be stuck in here any more'n ye want me here." Now she'd gone in for grumbling. He was spared a long and rambling diatribe by the fact that for all that nothing was busted to the point of incapacitation, it hurt enough. It took a lot to get her to shut up like that. Score one for Jager.
-
"Ain't got one. Asides, ye agreed to't. Not like I jes showed up all beat t'scales' emptiness. Piss'n'rot, ye act like I'm a beggar what set up camp in yer room." Somehow, the pain was getting worse. That wasn't right. She didn't deserve that. Her good eye was watering (he'd gotten her several times in the nose), and she grit her teeth against the ensuing waves. Oh, she glared. "Ain't me fault yer forgetful an' half-witted. Won't do it in an alley. Tch." The last was muttered to herself as she gingerly righted herself on the bed and laid back with a groan. It was possible the extra nuances of pain were overexaggerated. But, of course, Zhi would never do that. Not ever.
-
He let go, and she whomped back onto the bed with a dispirited oof of escaping air. She sat there for a moment, paralyzed, a high pitched whine forming at the back of her throat and escaping her mouth like the first wail of a boiling kettle. Then she got a grip on herself, and glowered at him. "Can't ye. . .jes go t'an alley? Plenty doxies get shimmied up against alley walls." She would have given a demonstrative hip-thrust, but gods if it didn't just hurt too much. "I tol' ye, three suns. Did ye hear me, or are ye too busy payin' heed t'yer cock?"

"Make --" In retrospect, taunting Jager when he was clearly in a mood was not the best idea ever. Her head hit the bed, and then the pillow hit her face. Pain erupted, fast and sharp, and she bellowed with the surprise of it. That, and it rutting hurt. "Hey! Ow -- ow, ow ow -- wait -- ow, feck, hey -- OW!" Somewhere in the flurry of blows, under the pain and the indignity of being bludgeoned with a rutting pillow, of all things, anger ignited. First order was curling up into the fetal position, second was grabbing the hated source of her pain and taking it away from him. Her first and second grabs missed, the third connected but it was soon wrenched away from her grip. She missed again on the fourth, and pain be damned, she lunged and got one hand on it and the other wrapped around it. She had a good grip. She was grinning at him, furious and riled, and grit out through her teeth, "I ain't in th'shape t'play wi'ye, laddo. If ye didn't want me here, ye should've taken me somewhere else. Un-der-stand?"

Zhi waved his hand away with an expression that was supposed to be dignified annoyance but cracked into a self-pleased smile. "A'right," she said, "a'right. What's this one?" She pointed to a random letter, one whose lines she'd seen before but the name of which she didn't know.

Either report a post or if it's through PMs, I would just send a pm to the moderation team. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showteam.php

Diversity is a wonderful thing, so if you're thinking of making one you'd only get enthusiasm from me. *totally added to the miqo'te overpopulation problem *
-
Not as popular as miqo'te or hyur, but you still see plenty hanging around.

Early in the morning is the best time to make a character on Balmung. 7am Pacific has always worked for me.

(post Caper and Black and Blue, because we're just crazy like that) One more day. It had to count. Zhi rubbed the back of her neck, yawning as she waited for her partners in crime to show their ugly mugs. Stealing something from a gang was never a good idea, but Zhi's ideas hadn't been limited by something so virtuous or self-preserving, of late. Had to risk some if you expected to walk away with the pot. The sun hadn't yet risen. The docks were empty. The warehouses were guarded by skeleton crews, and those crews were tired, bored, and likely cranky. Their movements were predictable and regular, and that was the best kind for someone looking to break and enter. They would be moving soon. Her blood was up, and hot, as anticipatory shivers started to steal down her back. She'd be in danger soon. She shifted from foot to foot. Fog was rising off the waters. The air was, for once, relatively cool, though everything was damp and sticky. Not ideal, but Zhavi would take whatever she could get. "Come on," she muttered. Yeah, so she'd been early. Didn't mean she couldn't be impatient.

Zhi hadn't really expected the supervisor of the guards to show up immediately. Likely whoever it was had a few people on beat, and wouldn't check on them except in the case of new guards, like Flit. And even then, Zhi doubted it would be the supervisor personally showing up, but some other underling superior to a newbie like Flit. Whichever it was, Zhi didn't care so long as they were taken back to the supervisor and the Cap'n had his shot at sniffing around. It was the least complicated option. It was a good thing, in this sole instance, that the Handers were as uptight about security as they were. Sure as shit, a guard swung around about five minutes after the conversation had started, expression going tight and pinched as he saw Flit engaged in conversation rather than ensuring the security of the area. He was an elezen, tall and haggard looking, with a few tell-tale signs of hard drug use marring his skin. Sadly, he looked and smelled sober. Too bad. "Hey! What d'you think you're doing? Better not be shooting th'shit, or I'll skin you meself!"

I think the sorta stress I feel in regards to character interaction is two fold. The biggest upset I've ever had with a character was when some fairly traumatic stuff happened to one of my old ones, and she became unplayable. That upset me a big deal, because her reaction would have been to become a genuine recluse (ie, leave everything and go wayyyy far away) -- so she was dead to the rp, essentially. I feel bad for my characters, but I don't get sad. Besides that, the most stressed out I get is when I have a character who I don't fully get. Case in point, I have a playboy on another site who is using a woman's recent upheaval (husband died, had a miscarriage) to further his own goals within his social circle. He's faking love for her, and even though she knows this, it still makes me disgusted to play him. Like, I don't want to get into that mindset. It makes playing him difficult, and some days I wish I hadn't made him -- he's in effect a compilation of some of the worst behaviors I've experienced with men-who-are-also-assholes, and so by trying to play him in a sympathetic fashion I tend to not want to play him. And it doesn't help that the character I'm playing opposite is so gosh-darn likeable that I sometimes wind up icking myself. Sadly, he's an important part in a plot, so I can't just give up on him, but I'll admit to sometimes avoiding the rp because I don't particularly feel like playing him. And other that that, I also tend to sorta spend time daydreaming and thinking about plot and character, and sometimes it's a matter of 'ooh, I need to do this, start that thread, I need to pm this person and ffff it's been ages since I checked up on this, I really need to touch base there and snap, I told so and so I was going to do this today but I also need to do this' -- which can affect my mood, but I'd much rather have lots to look forward to than nothing at all!
-
I agree with all of your post, but I wanted to add that I think that sometimes it can become a matter of expediency in the name of plot development or getting involved in this or the other thing rather than following the subtleties to their natural conclusions. That's what makes rp fun -- but also what makes it difficult. There is an element of randomness in rp that you won't find in other forms of storytelling or real life, because you're dependent on the ooc to meet up with the ic (I've had too many character arcs disrupted by the disappearance of other players ). But, otherwise, I agree that finding that sweet spot in character development is a sublime thing to see. Sure, I feel bad for characters often, but getting my heart to genuinely ache (in sorrow, happiness, or anywhere in between) for a character? That takes some doing, and as you said, is something I myself strive for. It's part of making the character believable, and that's no small feat.

Zhi froze for a moment as if caught with her hand in the proverbial cookie jar, then slowly retracted her tools. She settled the notebook on her lap, opened it to a blank page (fewer and fewer of those) and gave one last look at Styrm before putting pencil to paper. Zhi was dextrous, but the fine movements necessary for letters was still unfamiliar to her. They were shaky, ill-formed things, but still recognizable. Mostly recognizable. She looked up at Styrm. "Like that?"

Yeeees, more rp love. Each of the main cities have their mainstays, sometimes it's a matter of wandering around to find it (Ul'dah, in particular, is usually full of rpers you'll see rping out and about the city), and if that doesn't work I've found that pming players of characters I like (you can find character pages on the wiki -- if you use the 'recent updates' page you'll get those that are being worked on and thus you'll know them to be active -- otherwise people usually have links to character profile in their sig) can help get you jump started. Welcome to the RPC, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!

It's never a bother to help people new to rp find their way! On the contrary, it's always a good thing to see people who are giving it a shot! More people to rp with, huzzah! If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask, and if you ever happen to be rping in Limsa, hit me up! Welcome to the RPC!
-
And if the excellent advice Kage gave doesn't work, one method that worked for me was to go spelunking through the wiki (recent updates will give you characters people have recently edited, so you know they're still active), find characters that I liked, and then pm their player to see if they'd be interested in rping with me! I like to think it worked pretty well. Welcome to the RPC and don't be shy! People here are very friendly, and typically pretty darn flexible.

Zhi's lips moved in a complicated pattern as she did her best not to smirk. She didn't succeed very well, even despite the pain; watching Jager get slapped around by a whore was exactly the sort of entertainment she'd been lacking. But his own manhandling of Leila wasn't so amusing, for various reasons. Once he got himself leaning up against the window her gaze had turned speculative. "That weren't very nice," she said, turning to eye the door. It was shuddering on its hinges. Had the girl taken a shine to Jager? Did she have some sort of amorous regard for him? That was dangerous for a doxy. Real dangerous. Almost best Zhi had inadvertently put a wedge between them before the bint got herself hurt past reckoning. "But I am real hungry," she said. The pounding on the door ceased. Zhi had a suspicion the girl was waiting on the other side, listening to the conversation. She had it bad. "Think ye could score me some grub?"
-
Zhi scooted the book towards Styrm and crawled over to the pile of blankets. She extracted the notebook and grease pencil. The notebook had seen better days, by that time, and considerable use had worn the grease pencil down. But both were still more or less useable, and Zhi slid back into her spot with one in each hand. She offered them to Styrm, watching him with an uncertain fascination.

Active RP [LS-PS][Plot] Genesis A rival corporation created by a group of Ala Mhigan refugees, on the surface it is a corporation similar to XI:7. However, the true goal is to lead the world into its own destruction, so that a new order can be built from scratch. They want to erase every race that is not Hyur and stop the use of magic so that there is an equality in the masses. They keep a clean record, so this plotline deals a lot with corporate espionage/warfare that happens beyond the public eye. Contact: XI:7 (RPC Page) [RCF][Event] Harbingers of Dawn: Weekly Tavern Night Contact: Zularti Vensar, Faye Covington, Val Nunh, Worren Tigre RPC Page [bM-PS-LS][Plot] House of Cards (because I have no idea what else to call it ) Tensions rise between prostitution rings and their affiliates as they pursue revenge and the right to legally practice their business in Limsa Lominsa. Andralyn Thatcher and her Heaven's Gate take on allies to fight Tabart and his Jaded, as well as longtime nemesis Luther, in a slow-burning bid for survival. Neither side intends to let the other come out alive. Contact: Zhavi Streetrunner, Andralyn Thatcher, or Osric Melkire Further reading [LO-LS-PS][Plot] Smiling Demon The Smiling Demon is an alias given to a man that travels the realm wearing a smiling mask. This man (or whatever he is) preys on those who have lost loved ones that they feel they cannot live without. Since the Calamity, there has been many he could reach out to. He strikes a deal with these broken hearted individuals in order to bring their loved ones back, however they are not as they once were. The plotline revolves around investigating the nature of this man's dark deals and finding a way to stop them all together. Contact: XI:7 (RPC Page)

RP Groups [bM] Echoes of Seraphim IC: EoS is a treasure hunting pirate crew, somewhat begrudgingly inherited by Faustina. We do not necessarily do anything super illegal, but the occasional swiping of treasure maps/information has been known to occur. Though we are affiliated with the Order of the Twin Adders, we are mostly based out of Limsa Lominsa. We try to make as much money as possible off our ventures! OOC: (optional) roleplaying, community building, pve dungeons/raiding, doing daily treasure hunts and now monster hunts, maybe even some pvp Contacts: Faustina Myrron or Tyr Girbahn in game. Faustina would be the main IC contact Recruiting? Yes, through website or in game. Website RPC Page [RCF] Lominsan Society An in-character linkshell for characters who are frequently in Limsa Lominsa. RPC Page [LO-LS] Harbingers of Dawn <> IC: Harbingers of Dawn--those who foretell of the coming of a new day. The dawn is a symbol of starting over, the light cutting a swarth through the darkness. This is the ideal for which we strive. Harbingers of Dawn is a group of like-minded individuals dedicated to protecting and aiding the citizens of Eorzea. We stave off threats from animals, Beastmen, the Garlean Empire, and Primals alike, as well remedy the destruction such enemies and the Calamity have caused. With a loose purpose and varied roles for our members, Harbingers is a rag-tag allegiance of adventurers that allows for different goals and unique approaches among its members so long as all fall under the vague ideal of doing good for Eorzea. With three separate branches--Martial, Strategy, and Support--Harbingers is self-maintaining and has a place for people of all talents. OOC: We're a good-aligned, med-heavy RP FC of ragtag heroes and adventurers (and whoever else can worm their way in). We're rank 8 with an IC linkshell, small FC house, and weekly events. We have a website and a private Mumble server. Always recruiting. The company travels and works in Eorzea in general, not solely in La Noscea, but with the company estate in the Mist, the company is now centrally located in La Noscea. Leader: Zularti Vensar and Faye Covington Other Contacts: Val Nunh, Worren Tigre Recruiting? Yes; application on our website followed by two-week trial period. Website RPC Page [LO-LS] Mysterium, the Ivory Tower IC: Mysterium, known to some as the Ivory Tower, is an order of mages located in Limsa Lominsa and affiliated with the Maelstrom as a Free Company. The somewhat secretive "Wizards," as they're heard to call themselves, of Mysterium are known to be keenly interested in complex magical problems and allegedly explore the limits of magic theory through both archaeology and practical research. In fact, several of their members regularly consult on issues of Primals and magic with the Grand Companies of Eorzea. The Tower maintains an office in Mist where those who need assistance with Aetheric problems can seek their counsel. OOC: Mysterium is a heavy RP Free Company based out of Limsa Lominsa. We're happy to act as "consulting mages" for plotlines involving magical elements and are always looking for new members who seek RP that can be reasonably described as "Hogwart's faculty lounge crossed with Avengers Tower." Our focus is more on magical research and camaraderie than training new spellcasters, though individual Wizards have been known to take on apprentices from time to time. We have both an IC and an OOC LS and have provisions for non-members to have access to both linkshells as "Dear Friends." RPC Page [LO-LS] Path of Oschon IC: Oschon's Breath is a merchant and trade vessel captained by Raandal Bennett. His company, Path of Oschon, works diligently to provide safe passage of goods and people from port to port and to keep Eorzea progressing into a better tomorrow through dedication to service and duty and the protection of her people from any threat. Where there is a need, we will see to it. Crewed by some of the most skilled sailors and adventurers around, there is no task too small and no challenge too great for our ranks. See the wonders of Vylbrand and Aldenard with Path of Oschon! Stop by your local OIC administrator for an application today! OOC: PATH is a RP/PvE company looking to welcome adventurers of any level or skill so long as they meet our 18+ age requirement and carry a decent attitude. We strive to have active members that are willing and interested to help create a story for our company. We have two IC linkshells: one is used as a normal comm channel, the other as our ship. RP can range from a developed company wide stories and events, to tavern RP and ship shenanigans and a night of cards at port and more. We have active forums, Ventrilo & Housing (currently in Thanalan for IC reasons). Leader: Raandal Bennett Other Contacts: Daphine Rysen, Picket Tralen Recruiting? Yes; Small application on the website and an IC interview/invite to follow. Website RPC Page [LO-LS-PS] XI:7 IC: XI:7 is a multi-faceted corporation living under the motto "Noblesse Oblige" or the obligation of those with power or influence to use it for the greater good. The ultimate goal is to bring the Seventh Dawn to the world, ushering in an age of peace. However, that goal is far from reach, so the company works to bring the world closer one day at a time. Needing resources to make a great change in the world, they are invested in manufacturing, transportation, research and development, and any other market they can use to invest in the realm. OOC: Think ShinRa, but for the good guys. XI:7 is a very public company, so they work within the law and work to uphold the law, however I added in Predatory Society because they are aggressive in gaining territory of influence and doing what they can to gain more power. Some areas of the company works like a mafia because they believe in having the power for themselves so someone corruptible won't have it. Recruiting? We are always happy to bring in new recruits, however we only bring people into the FC who maintain a level of appropriate behavior, both IC and OOC. We have no interest in becoming an overly large company, so we bring in those we can actually get to know and play alongside with. Website RPC Page

Limsa Lominsa RP Aids Limsa Lominsa Character Directory: A character directory for all characters who spend time in the city. The Rattlepack Guide: Limsa Lominsa: An excellent player-made guide to Limsa Lominsa.
