Policy change: Sales of art for gil forbidden
Kinono replied to FreelanceWizard's topic in FFXIV News
The no gil for art thing is stupid. Stupid but understandable. But how is casinos and raffles "RMT?" I hate them as much as the next person but SE may need a refresher on what RMT stands for. My old GW2 guild used to have IC hide and seek tournaments with huge gold pools, would that be considered RMT too? Why stomp down on stupid fun? How dare we as as players extend the life of your game for you! -
Right-click (or circle if Playstation) Solaire on the character creation menu and save their appearance if you don't have it saved already. Now, make a new character of him on a low-population server. There's a 3-day wait between creation and transfer, I believe, but after that you can go to Mog Station and purchase a world transfer for them to Balmung. For easy reference, here is the list of requirements for world transfer.

This wonderful sweetie once gave me the full HQ goldsmith's set for the small small price of an eternity of hugs. (She actually didn't ask for the hugs, that's just what I decided to give her.)

Nothing happens without Sounsyy's say-so. Your existence is provided by the grace of Sounsyy. Give thanks unto Sounsyy.

Hello and welcome to the game, and hopefully Balmung! I'm looking forward to possibly seeing more of you! I've never heard Balmung Beans before, but that sounds super cute.

Shh. No tears. Only dreams now.

Oh yeah, that's definitely what it is. One-hundred percent, I don't think anyone is contesting that. I used my own eternal bonding ceremony as my wedding event, so I'm definitely not saying eternal bonding shouldn't be or isn't marriage for RPers. Merely pointing out what what interviews seem to suggest from an in-universe point of view.
-
Going over old interviews, there seems to be a heavy emphasis from the producers also talking about bonding allowing a ceremony between characters "regardless of race, creed, or gender," implying that typical marriage would have some sort of restrictions based on nationality or race. Eternal bonding, in addition to allowing a ceremony between genders without restriction, bypasses other legal boundaries. It feels like there's a lot going unsaid, of course, which means that yes, we as players and lore-hounds do have to make a few leaps in fantasy-judgement due to real-life standards. The implication being, as far as I can tell, eternal bonding is a way to proclaim love or strong friendship without jumping through the fiery, red-taped hoops of a wholly legal marriage. But if anyone has a different interpretation I'd be glad to hear it.
-
It spawned a borderline meme of people shouting "It's not marriage" in shout chat... The producers were very emotional about pushing the distinction.
-
Eternal Bonding isn't marriage and isn't the "official" term for it. They go through great length, both in the game dialogue and through the news related to the feature to state that marriage and Eternal Bonding, while similar, are not synonymous. Both marriage and bonding exist, and they are two separate, yet similar, things. Bonding can have a lot of different meanings, and two people can do it in Eorzea for a lot of different reasons. It is implied to be more for adventurers than Eorzeans proper. The one constant between all these reasons is that bonding is VERY religiously based in the 12 as we know them. As stated earlier in the thread, a bonding ceremony is more about the celebration of a bond, instead of being a legal agreement besides. Bonding, while still a legal agreement (as evidenced by the oh-so-romantic "look at this paper we signed" ceremony), is not as intense. You do not share property when bonded, and are not seen as a single entity within any governing body. Note that in-game dialogue never uses "bonding" and "marriage" synonymously, though there is a singular interview where Yoshida (I believe) responds to a question about marriage by beginning "Marriage, or eternal bonding..." Marriage is exactly what it sounds like, and is closer to our real world understanding of it. You share property when married, including as evidenced by "the Business of Betrothal" arc in the Hildibrand quests. Marriages are (seemingly especially in Ul'dah and lalafell culture) arranged and done for purely business and practical reasons. Note that as far as I can tell, no instance of marriage in the game has ever been used synonymously with "bonding." Can a character be both at the same time? Hard to say. As of yet, we only see players bonded and NPCs married, and we, as PCs, are kept separate from the "marriage" facet of society.

Looking to brawl in The Quicksand!

They are indeed! -
Can't attest to the not-moogle weddings, but the mog specifically states that he has no authority to marry anyone. It makes it ironic/sad that the most romantic wedding ceremony choice is bookended by that little line of dialogue. Personally, I just choose to ignore it.

Looking to brawl in The Quicksand!

I dunno about others, but my impression from multiple cutscenes in the game, as well as instanced battles that take place within this very establishment, seem to imply that, while not necessarily "common," fights are expected. The very opening cutscene involves two men roughing up another man right in front of Momodi and she just shrugs it off cavalierly. -

As far as I can tell, there's not much info on marriage weddings, but they'd seem common and easy enough. According to one unnamed NPC, same-sex marriage is fine, and then you have the whole Tam-Tara Deepcroft story. As for actual RPing, it's enough to just say you're married, even though I have that one friend who refuses to acknowledge it and just calls me "bonded" every time I RP with her. *grumble grumble* Edit:forgot about that Hildy arc, but again... scant info.

So pretty high. Cartoons aren't real.

You sound like the type of guy that'd be great to bring along to a bachelor party. What are you doing in July? -
I thought there was a Lala directory over here too. Which I ALSO thought I had posted in. Huh. Are you even sure you're real at this point? What are the odds of you reading a post here along the lines of "Gegenji...? Never heard of him," while you look down just in time to see your fingertips slowing fading away?

Was surprised to see so many posts against this! Momodi doesn't care about fights in the bar as far as I can tell, and dialouge seems to suggest it's common fare. Yes, the Brass Blades could arrest you but... they're the Brass Blades. They could arrest you for looking at them funny too. Plus, I think I've seen a fight break out one outta every 3 times I've walked in that place. -
Would love to see someone emote a miqo'te sniffing someone with their mouth gaping open. Gotta work that vomeronasal organ, yo.

The IC/OOC boundary and how to approach it the SMILE way
Kinono replied to g0ne's topic in RP Discussion
It's embarrassing how much this has happened to me. I was worried I wasn't being clear or forceful enough at first but it eventually got to the point where I accepted that many people, unfortunately, don't want to listen. When I was first trying to branch out more, I went to the Quicksand, as many are likely to, to try to meet new people. So many times I met people only interested in one thing and every time I'd state OoCly "I don't want this thing for this reason and this reason and this reason." Not a one of those people stopped until I started ignoring them or just left. Kino doesn't go to the Quicksand anymore. -

Everything, really. Relationships are the biggie, but it's definitely not unheard of for IC slights/arguments to be taken OoCly. How odd, I can understand the lines of a romance/erp blurring the lines, but never IC arguments. Sadly, I'll totally admit to having previously acted coldly to people ICly who I did not like OoCly. It wasn't so much about bleed, I don't think, more just... "I want this social interaction to be over with." That could be argued, obviously, but that's just my own experience. I try not to do that anymore, because I know it comes off as extremely childish as opposed to just excusing myself and leaving. Typically if there's IC drama a-stirrin', it's with people who are familiar with me and know that what happens IC changes nothing OoCly, hell, I'll probably poke fun at it myself later. If something does happen with someone who I'm not as familiar with, I try to send them some confirmatory tell at some point during or after thanking them for the RP and apologizing for my character's action so they know there's no hard feelings. Most people are totally okay with it. -

I'd imagine if a Tia leaves their tribe and opens up a new hunting ground, they'd have the option of becoming another Nunh of their existing tribe (the whole "Tribe" -> "Sept" -> "Breeding group" structure), too, which would carry a lot more cache than creating a new tribe. C'kayah Tia journeying from his home, opening up a hunting area, then settling down to pioneer a Coeurl settlement there would be C'kayah Nunh, with all that entails. C'kayah Tia deciding "Fuck this shit" and running off with a few females would be something like Ca'kayah Nunh, which is a different thing entirely. I think tribes are kind of like nationalities, not political allegiances. If you were born a wolf, and start a new tribe, it's still the wolf tribe, just a different wolf tribe. I was basing my knowledge off of this wiki page which is based off of this community post, but of course, wikis, anyone can edit, yada yada yada, so I do apologize if my understanding is totally off-base and just based off of some random dude's rambling. In that sense, yes, the new tribe is still a "wolf tribe," just a wolf tribe with an extra "a" or whatever in the label. A subset of the drakes, but still a drake tribe. U'roh Tia leaves his tribe to start a new tribe and decides to go by Ua'roh Nunh now. That sort of thing.

Re: Why are Nunhs out adventuring. Pretty sure if a Tia leaves their tribe specifically under the guise of forming a new tribe, and they have a couple people with them, that's enough to call themselves a Nunh. Perhaps they are looking for a place to settle down. The strict A-Z tribes are implied to not be the only tribes to exist, just the strongest. Aa'____ Ab'____ Ac'_____ and so on for every combination are free to be created.
