Sex and Your Character/Roleplay (NSFW Discussion)
Kinono replied to Dat Oni's topic in RP Discussion
I'm not against on the grounds that it's treated with respect and not as a non-canon eff spree. If the scene has a purpose for developing something or showing something off or has some purpose, then yes. By all means. If you're just logging in for the purpose of getting your rocks off and don't treat any encounter with any sort of continuity then... Well what you're doing isn't even RP. That's cybering, and (while everyone if free to have fun their own way,) is something I'd prefer didn't exist or involve others. -
Hey, that's all really interesting and informative regardless! It was a fun read! I'd absolutely love if some of the more mundane aspects of life in Eorzea were made more apparent. Something that could supposedly be a part of my character's upbringing would be a great little tidbit to have. It's nice to know too, that if I try to throw something out abou the zodiac to some closer RP friends, I won't necesarrily be wrong; just retconned! Thank you for the response!
-
Aye, that's been my assumption up 'til now too. I saw the atma names as giving us in-universe labels to the actual zodiac, which... I don't think really exist as constellations in Final Fantasy XIV, though I have to admit. I haven't checked.

This is exactly what I was afraaaaaaid of. ;_;

Those are totally decent pajamas and I won't have have anyone tell me otherwise! *tantrum*

As Kinono's second birthday since being created is coming up, I sort of had a lot of questions regarding this tidbit from the official Dunesfolk bio. Do we know much about zodiacal signs as they pertain to individual characters? Is it represented by birthdays as in the real world? Are they represented by our real-life zodiac signs, as seen in the atma quest, or by the Twelve as each of them hold ownership of a moon of the calendar? For example... Assuming the same birthday, would a character's zodiacal sign be "the scorpion" or "the matron." Would the gemstone represent their zodiacal sign due to its color, or due to a particular inscribed sign, or both?

Well, the coliseum set is the exception, as has been pointed out by the devs lore team. Most people would not be explicitly expected to wear the coliseum sets to battle unless they were, in-fact, fighting in the arenas. Personally, it would depend on the particular character. Kinono's spent a lot of time with miqo'te tribes, and around the dancers of Ul'dah besides, so she probably wouldn't find it odd at all. If the character was raised in or primarily lives a setting where it makes sense for them to more covered, then they would very well be taken aback by the lack of clothes. There's always current context to consider as well! I'd wager modesty is more common in Gridania or Coerthas than it is in Limsa or Ul'dah, for example. The heat of thanalan would make less clothes much more likely than someone running around in a subligar outside of Camp Dragonhead.

*NSFW* ERP- should both IRL partners be okay with it?
Kinono replied to thatgirl's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
If you've told them it's not okay and they don't respect that, then shame on them. I've had a very similar talk about this subject with my own partner a while ago, so I'm going to try to respond to this seriously. TL;DR- Yes. Both partners should be okay with it. But neither partner should be so quick to deny the other. Compromises exist. There are multiple facets to be looked at here. Now, I will start by saying (should OP even still be reading this thread) that ERP is not always about fantasy fulfillment. It can, depending on the person, be used as a methods of plot or character development. My own experiences with it outside of FFXIV (I'm not ashamed!) are all 100% platonic. I know that sounds weird to a lot of people, but to me it's largely just character development. A character can just as easily and logically "discover themselves" through romantic development as with dramatic, or battle, or friendship, or anything else. It depends entirely on the character they've chosen to play, and how that character chooses to receive validation. I've played characters who only existed to win fights, become stronger. I've played characters who viewed their own worth relative to romantic conquests. I've played characters who chose to be instigators of drama and simply existed to try to drive people apart. ERP is not always a romantic, sexual experience between two people so much as it is two people developing their characters with each other in ways where a "fade-to-black" simply won't cut it. It's the same as in a lot of adult fiction; the same author could just as easily fade-to-black or write out an entire scene. The most mature author will only choose to do that latter when it's called for, because the characters somehow learned or evolved during the experience. Now... all that being said... Most roleplayers are sadly, not that mature. For most of the RP subsets known as ERPers, it's really just about fantasy fulfillment. Whether we as humans like to admit it or not, we are only one person each who can (or are willing to) fill a finite list of fantasies. We're bound by our physical world, and our physical bodies. A little bit of fantasy fulfillment is not unhealthy. Too much, and yeah... It's very unhealthy. Especially if OoC feelings are involved. I've been roleplaying for years. Years and years. ERP just became an accepted part of the hobby for me, even though I rarely participated myself. I knew people who did, and I didn't think any less of them for it. They were playing characters, and the characters would logically fall together. My partner does not roleplay, but she writes. She understands that development of sexuality can be an important crux in a story, or a character's lifespan. She learned about my hobby and what it entails after we had been together for a while; and her inital reaction was much the same as yours! She told me it was akin to cheating, that I shouldn't be sharing intimate moments with anyone but her... Frankly, I hadn't even thought about it like that. The hobby was part of who I was, and romantic development was a part of that hobby. The two were inseparable in my mind. Where RP happens, so must ERP. But we sat down together and talked about it. We searched the internet for opinions and testimonies from couples in similar situations, and we landed on a compromise that served to make both of us happy. Though it's restricted the variety of characters I can play, I got to keep my partner, and I got to maintain my favorite hobby. Things couldn't have turned out better. Whether such a course of action will work for you OP, remains to be seen. But I certainly hope, all things considered, that you both at least try. -

Kinono replied to Warren Castille's topic in RP Discussion
I'll say this, both to my defense in detriment: no response I make in this thread or on this subject is going to be 100% rational and without emotional attachment. As a primarily Lalafell roleplayer, who's been at this since launch... I get really, really, really tired of not being taken seriously. As a player, but more importantly as a character. I've had people regularly comments on me being the "comedy-relief" race, regular derogatory comments made on my character's ability to do physically anything by herself, assumptions that I'm not being age-appropriate by doing anything a grown adult would regularly and reasonably do, and one very random and uncalled-for comment on me being smelly and dirty and having gross midget feet. I'll totally agree that a lalapunch and a roepunch, after equal training and with equal equipment are not going to be the same. But if anybody tells me or any other character they can't win a little brawl for no better reason than "lol lala," then that person's credibility is going to go way, way, way down in my book. -

Lalafell can also jump 7 feet straight-up into the air with no build-up. I think this entire thread is made up of jealous people! You're all jealous! -

Oh, of course not. I'm not disagreeing with you here. I even said in an earlier post, my own Lalafell is physically weak and relies on bows and poisons. I would take a Roegadyn such as your example seriously provided he had ample weaknesses to make up for it. Dodging everything is one of the prime examples of godmodding, and as such is also really, really bad. So a playful little aside is being taken as the main content of my post? Okay I don't have anything further to add! Except I didn't do that at all. ;_; -

I could shoot a Garlean fortress from the dock Costa Del Sol with a handgun. That an invading force just up and plopped a major stronghold there is extremely cartoonish. -

Not everyone plays Lalafell as quick-witted or even smart, though! Automatically placing made-up stats on a character because of their race is akin to god-modding, to me. If I play a Roegadyn (and I do!), I should be free to make her weak but smart. People would buy that, despite her size. Same exact reaction if I play a highlander. People would more than likely find the dichotomy interesting! Assuming personality traits to be automatically true about a character based on race in any context besides in-character is just... really, really bad! -

I honestly don't get the hang-up. I mean, I could see it if this game were based at all on realistic fiction, but it's not. It's Final Fantasy. It's anime fantasy at the absolute best. Watching a little girl punch a huge buff dude and he rolls backwards into a wall isn't that uncommon in this genre. I understand the want for realism, but looking for it in Final Fantasy? You're gonna have a bad time. Even then, there are so many examples of "short" strong races. Dwarves aren't always portrayed as muscle-bound, but the label nearly always removes any doubt of strength. Halfling fighters aren't unheard of. Nobody raises their eyebrows at gnome warriors. I'm going to take a "strong Lalafell" way more seriously than I take "mary-jane whitemage" any day of the week. Ants are super strong. Why not just think of them like big, humanoid ants. -

I'll say again: Only lalafells in the ARR trailers are casters. That's as definitive of a fighting force as we get. I'm going to assume Kage may have meant more "security" force rather than fighting force, and we do see Lalafell on every security force that it makes sense for them to be on. Lalafell stand guard all throughout Ul'dah, no less armed and no more reluctant at frightening the rabble into peace if their pop-up dialogue bubbles are to be believed. These aren't rouges or magicians or anything where they're just gonna hop out and take people by surprise. These are bouncers and guardsmen. People specifically trained to act and look intimidating enough to enforce peace. And, save for the whole... -
I'm always looking for people to casually hang-out/meet/develop stuff with! I'm pretty easy-going! Feel free to find/add/PM me or anything!

I'd return the favor, but being Miqo'te generates negative reputation on its own. -

Don't we all. Miqo'te are gross. > -
I love light-hearted and free form RP so by all means, let's do something! I also love finding people to do content with, though more often than not I'm just soloing or duo-ing it, since I prefer not to burden people with just my progression. Our play times seem to match up too, so I'll be sure to wave you down through PM just to say hi and make myself available! Nice to meet you!

Hehe, that was my first worry when I read the title. A good example of respect, both in real-life and during OoC communication during roleplay is to use what's called "people first" language when talking about a disability. Nothing against you, OP, as I'm certainly not going to assume you won't treat the character respectfully, but saying "blind character" as opposed to "character who is blind" tends to relay, even subconsciously, that this character is defined by their blindness, rather than being a character who just simply possesses the trait of blindness. Something to keep in mind!
