  1. IMO Its a lore drop primarily about the exclusivity of jumps/efficacy. You have a much older account than mine so I'm certain you've seen the arguments beforehand about the capabilities of a Dragoon with a Capital D, as in the job, not the title. - some said that only the Azure Dragoon is the sole person that can do any sort of jumping. So anyone RP'ing their abilities is being Mary Sue. This isn't true as shown in the trailer. - Some argued that jumps would be obscenely impractical in combat. which is also not true because their jumps are not commanded by standard 9.8 meters per second per second acceleration of gravity but are commanded by animu physics. The lift off instantly, can change direction midair and come down like a lightning bolt. It is more threat than non-threat in an RP situation. as for who they were. They are Dragoons with the Armor and the Gae Bolg, both confirmed to be in mass production and the equipment and symbol of office of the Dragoons with a capital D by fernewhales. These are different from say the dyspeptic dragoon you can find in the gates of judgement during the MSQ which is just a Templar knight with a spear. That is really it. IMO the -exact- mechanics are a mystery for sure, but we have visual representation of how it should be. this whole thing about age was really not my intention >_>
  2. I also want to bring up that most likely, a lot of Ishgardians, especially Dragoons who are in their 20's range right now HAVEN'T SEEN JACK **** OF THE HORDE. why? because Nidhogg is the true big baddy where things go to all hell. The last time he did that was 20 years ago. People of younger age were either not born, or children young enough to not remember. I am CERTAIN there is a fantastic spectrum of "Think I'm good" Dragoons that are about to get a massive reality check when the true might of the horde comes bearing down on Ishgard come Nidhogg's reawakening. Orrin's the "Absurdly brave/blinded by duty" type that was listed before, but it is easy to imagine that Vishap finally drove home why they have been fighting for 1000 years for many a soldier and dragoon. Those Dragoons in their 40's or so that lived are like the WWII vets looking at the new blood going to Vietnam at the end of heavensward, I am certain.
  3. SPOILERS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFm47E-hL2g: for reference I've watched these forums and remember a while back there were several topics concerning the Dragoon Job and the capabilities they have. With the trailer not only do we have proof of capabilities, but possibly the mechanics. - some argued its just a title and only the Azure Dragoon is the crazy one that can jump all over the place. This is now false because we see multiple dragoons jump and come down upon dragons in the trailer - some argued jump may be an impractical means of combat against a nimble, ground opponent. This I agreed with until the trailer because it shows that jumps are a) almost literally lightning fast b) Are Aether assisted as shown by the first scene and the final battle scene. They don't just leap up and come down, they ROCKET down. This is one of the few times where a job ability is damn close to the cinematic equivalent. (also note one poor dragoon gets nommed after landing a jump on the big bad dragon. which is hilarious). - Lore behind the new AF armor possibly hinted at (pure speculation) perhaps Ishgard undergoes an Ul'dahn equivalent of free paladins and so the armor Derplander has is the Volunteer Dragoon armor. Either that or its was just that way to keep him unique among all the other faceless Dragoons. This just showed up in Reddit. So yeah. Yoshida wanted the Warrior of Light to wear the 2.0 Dragoon AF armor, but Ikumori insisted that they used the new weapon since they were going through the trouble of animating it anyway. so thoughts? opinions? Aside from OMG SO COOL (which is what I am shouting every 30 seconds)
  4. I done some flippity floppity with my character physically: Nothing is similar exception for the eyes. He is way more fit and handsome than I ever could be. Intelligence: Similar or at least Orrin possesses the same potential for book smarts as I do. He is not a downplay or an idealization of my own intelligence. history/background: Orrin's only recently journeyed outside of Coerthas, I fly outside country and continent frequently Orrin's adopted and parents unknown, though he accepts them as his own. I am well aware of my heritage, accept it and have my biological parents raise me. Both Orrin and I have parents that at least, to my knowledge seem happy together from 2 diverse backgrounds. Orrin has a Military/Court background, I do not have that, though according to my grandfather(who is Japanese, yes) I am of Samurai lineage so I guess it comes for that. Personality: This is where we are the most alike and different at the same time. Both of us tend to pay no mind, not resort to force if not necessary. However where I am more passive and tolerant, Orrin by definition of being an Ishgardian is more confrontational and opinionated. However my RL personality tempers Orrin from less religious Zealot to moderate. Orrin's more impersonal and not one for lasting relationships, more like alliance via proximity. Orrin also has the confidence that I severely lack. He can flirt, get shot down and keep going. I can talk to women fine, just not women I like (though he looks miles better than I do, so that may help ) Both of us love our fine alcohols In short, Orrin and I would not get along if we existed in the same world. Not enemies, but awkward. We do not share enough similarities to be pals or enough common ground to talk about to be drinking buddies. Which is fine by me to make a character that can be likeable but not someone I can necessarily get along with.
  5. Lots of silence, an awkward cough and going on their way, joss whedonesque timing.
  6. My wiki is replete with NPC rumors and I had created a PC rumor section as well, hoping it would fill as I rp'd. I got one from Evangeline though. I NEED MORE
  7. The event has come to pass, tons of fun! Congrats on being part of Eorzea's history in a place where you canonically can be
  8. How is this racism squared away with things such as say, the Miqo'te being the default "sexy" race? you have 3 miqo'te dancers in Ul'dah and races of all kinds drooling over them. Or how about the Miqo'te courtesan you escort to the Roegadyn in Costa Del Sol? Is there a difference between say, "casual" relation versus actual "love"? Like, you can boink as many outside races as you wish, but you are settling down with someone of your own race!
  9. Just reconfirming the event for april 4th 2015 at 10 pm EST. If you cannot make it, please alert me
  10. http://ru.myanimeshelf.com/upload/dynamic/2011-05/08/1249383576_moe-45374-male-tengen_toppa_gurren_lagann-vector2.png Definitely Viral from Gurren Lagann, everything from being an elite of the "Wrong side" to what would be his ideal alternate dimension with a wife and kid. And RP wise, even more so on being a"serious" character among more lighthearted and less dire situations. So he just rains on peoples's parades
  11. So Final Line up is this : I went by post order of who gets in, with preference for named characters over sellsword or Ishgardian NPCs Right so the team so far looks like: Tanks : Evangeline Primrose Steel Wolf Healers: Katriane Hiver Menelwen Veara DPS: Orrin Gwannes Oskwell Seiko Mamushi Flynt Reddard on reserve : Leon Greymoon (class unknown) Warren Castille (Class unknown, participation unknown) Kale Aideron (Marauder/tank) I would like to do Saturday 10 pm EST, is this good? please PM me a confirmation or in game.
  12. You even see it in League of Legends, people stupidly focus the tank all the time, usually because there is no choice. You have this big unkillable thing coming your way, sewing chaos and destruction, you can't ignore the tank because it is doing crowd control and disruption but you also can't focus it because he will not die and the real damage will tear you apart. If tanks/damage sponges were useless, they would not show up in high level plays in league. So that's how I see it in game, the paladin is really a giant physical barrier to getting to anyone else, and the warrior has an axe so heavy that turning your back on him will have you bowled over/pummelled so you can never really truly attack the monk punching your butt. Dark Knight will probably work on a similar aspect as warrior combined with whatever darkness to cloud the area and see only one real viable target this lends to the AOE tanking, the Warrior's overpower/steel cyclone and Paladin's flash/circle of scorn, it just routes so much chaos that they just want it to stop. also have to put into account that the melee dps are all ULTRA mobile. Dragoons can jump super high and out of reach, Ninjas are Ninjas and Monks are so lightly encumbered that they can roll and flip out of the way. So monsters and human targets alike will most likely go "SCREW IT" And attack the least mobile thing in the way that is also begging to be hit.
  13. I went by post order of who gets in, with preference for named characters over sellsword or Ishgardian NPCs Right so the team so far looks like: Tanks : Evangeline Primrose Steel Wolf Healers: Katriane Hiver (Empty) DPS: Orrin Gwannes Oskwell Seiko Mamushi Flynt Reddard on reserve : Leon Greymoon (class unknown) Warren Castille (Class unknown, participation unknown) Kale Aideron (Marauder/tank) So we need a healer!
  14. Dragoons and Ishgard Lore nuts like me must certainly know that the MSQ has tossed quite an interesting curveball. Estinien appears, as an ally, as Azure Dragoon and obsessed with ending Nidhogg. Even after the steps of faith you see him monologing to himself about killing Nidhogg, nothing about say, scheming or having ulterior motives. This would be fine were it not that if you happen to have the DRG quest completed, Estinien will recognize you as Azure Dragoon and assure you that he does not mean to quarrel with you this day. Also it states that the eye of Nidhogg is safe behind Ishgard's walls in vault. So, has what transpired between you and Auberic and Estinien a secret to everyone else? I'm pretty sure the quest states that Holy See had acknowledged Estinien went rogue. Estinien full on gives into the draconic influence and you dispatch him (Seems more like he disappears) I don't think Ishgard is amenable to such blasphemy. So, what are your theories? All I know I have to retcon my background.
  15. So also, if you talk to the flame commander, he says that supposedly the incident is being withheld from the public. So thing appear as they are on the surface. Basically if you weren't part of the elite in that banquet. You may have some MASSIVE mountains to move to get that info. ***EDIT*** scratch that, Mother Miounne has heard of the incident. seems its the world's worst kept secret
  16. *SPOILERS, SKIP ENTIRE POST* So! Thankfully the lore shows that not only the warrior of light and pals but also Sellswords, especially those in Mor Dhona show up to fight the fight. So, this really is a chaotic, massive battle. Not only that but there seems to be an offscreen fight at steel vigil concurrently. Given the strenuous nature of the battle. I would really like people who have cleared the fight successfully before to maximize the cool factor of incorporating it into their personal story. If people want to do it fresh with our group. I'll be more than glad to instruct, Orrin is a Dragoon and perhaps most likely well versed in emergency combat scenarios as these. So I can explain the strategy in character to maintain immersion. Whoever is still on board, please tell me, or contact me in game, I'd love to do something this weekend.
  17. Orrin's in Coerthas. However, I am very puzzled about Estinien's positive standing given his past actions....
  18. I'm happy to see some replies! I'll get things in motion once the actual patch drops! I just want to see who will show.
  19. "How about fighting alongside a friend?" "Aye, I can do that" So the battle of Ishgard is getting a cool little trial involving fighting Vishap, as shown here. http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/special/2_5_Before_the_Fall/ishgard/#patch As you read in the description, its not only Warriors of Light but Ishgardian Knights. So I know a character like mine, will be there and actually tickling Vishap's feet. Who else wants to experience that particular battle along side me (Orrin) for part of their character canon? Is this better put in looking for connections? I'm not sure.
  20. I've posted my interest for events and haven't had my name updated for it.
  21. Night had fallen, the blazing heat giving way to unforgiving frigid cold. And yet, to Orrin, the sensation was the more bearable of the two, reminding him of his distant home. He emerged from his desert hovel, lance in hand. It would be several paces from the offset that he would finally find his quarry. He grimaced visibly at the throbbing, writhing grizzly flesh of the sandworm. Its circular jaw lined with teeth, its myriad crawlers clawing about the sand in its reach, all entirely unawares of the cloaked Dragoon. His icy eyes peered from beneath his cowl, judging, gauging the foul vilekin. He then shifted his weight and in one quick motion he leaped. The worm must have sensed something, perhaps its blind eyes sensing the sudden cool upon its body when his shadow crossed over its back, for it suddenly jutted its "head" upwards to meet Orrin's lance, the blade descending deep before the hooks and wings started to dig into what he would consider its face. His feet would soon follow, landing upon the worm. He is quick to slip down, straddling the worm, digging into the body with the blades upon his armored calves. It began to buck violently, clearly not all to enthused by its current situation. Orrin lifts the lance once more to drive it down hard, this time hitting his mark of where he assumed the brain or its equivalent would be. Skewering right through the pulsating flesh till the head of the Gae Bolg surfaced on the other side, wings and all. One final, quivering, twitching spasm and the worm fell limp and Orrin rolled off into the sand onto his back. He'd be quick to stand, drawing a knife into his armored palms he began to carve up his kill. He cut slices into the white meat, avoiding what he thought were organs to avoid the chance of consuming something he shouldn't. The rubbery muscle seemed to twitch still, as though it had yet to get the message that it was dead. His knife then tears into something, it looked like the guts of the creature and the smell was something else. He was so used to the gore of his homeland, of burning fat and flesh within armor that the vilekin's rend corpse nearly made him gag. He stuffed what meat he could into the bag and stood up to leave the rest for the vultures. It had to be better than goobue flesh, right?
  22. ((I love the term Belah'dian Magehunt)) Away, that is where he had to go. Away from the prying eyes, the crowds, the cramped alleyways where he did nothing but take up space. He was on the final stretch, the jewel of the desert naught but a faint glint in the distance now. Near last of his gil spent on a custom porter chocobo that was currently carrying him further and further. Wind swept up behind him, the tracks in the sand quickly covered up, leaving no trace of his venture. It seemed Halone was with him. It was that thought that kept him steady and calm. He wandered if the chocobo could feel it, the clawing, beckoning sentience of the tears. Though locked away in individual crates they resonated with him, the inner dragon that began to roil and churn beneath. The chorus, the song, powerful, perhaps amplified by the proximity and number. His breaths deepened in response, slow, deliberate meditative breaths. This was still indeed justice, his justice, he thought, not weakness nor leniency, this was the right action, not a dragon's will. He snaps the reins, bidding the bird to go faster. A little further would be enough to steel himself away along with the cursed artifacts. The wind begins to kick up, forcing him to raise a hand to grip at his cowl to cover her his eyes, mouth and nose. He forges forward blindly still and what he saw when he closed his eyes always went back to that ghastly site: Cold, serpentine, lifeless eyes, gazing back unblinkingly. He wondered if what he had witnessed had been a kindness. It was Dragon's eyes and lucid words instead of loving, caring eyes and dragon's lies. Lance or no, he thinks that her blood would be spilled were he witness to the latter once again. This time would be different, this one he could save. As the dust storm cleared the unbearable heat of the Thanalan sun began to radiate down upon the ivory sand, and the backs of him and his poor chocobo. He looked back over his shoulder once more, civilization but a mirage now. He then looked forward to an outcropping of rocks, one overhanging with tantalizing shade, a bare, dead dry tree, desiccated for its audacity to grow so far away from others. He smirks a bit and brought the bird to a pause. He dismounted quickly and circled around to the backside of the beast to retrieve the water skin affixed to his effects. Skin in hand he looked to the bird with a soft appreciative smile "I would ride you into battle" he smirks and cupped on hand, the other folding over the bladder to loose some of its water into his palm before lifting it up to the bird's beak. He started to unload the rest, simply unburdening the chocobo of his armor and arms and the of course, the damnable relics that had consumed moons of his life. With everything removed he walked the bird around by the reins , facing back towards Ul'dah before giving it a firm smack on the rear "HYAH!" he yells and off the bird went. He watched the golden figure slowly disappear over the horizon before turning back to what would be his place for a while. There was his mission, his duty to perform.
