I have a habit of running through an area and completing every side quest as far as the eye can see before moving on. Is there any reason why I should -not- do side quests?

I fully intend to throw my money at Enix

I will await this mythical Sounsyy

I hadn't thought of that...I like it! But currently he is favored by the goddess of the sun...which feels dumb. She only likes cats.

I will likely use the fantasia once I have played for a week and know more or less what I want Thor to be. And then transfer to balmung possibly Friday night because RP.

My characters almost always reflect some part of me. Relationship-wise, I play the love game like I play it in real life. I put my hand on your leg and then we kiss tend to have fitness-oriented characters who want other fitness-oriented SOs. In real life I get really put off when I go on a date and someone says, "Oh I hate the gym. I don't need to go." I guess if you are looking at Anime tropes (I feel like this is the audience to reference anime), the Uke/Seme relationship is the last thing I am going to be comfortable with RPing. From my experience it isn't a realistic relationship dynamic. I want an equal or greater in a relationship, so my characters always seek that in RP. My characters (like myself) are usually not terribly passionate about many things, but I've always been drawn to pairing my characters with people who ARE heavily motivated. I like mixing people who seem similar on the surface but are opposites at their core. I definitely never ever feel okay with interspecies RP and being the lore snob I am, I quietly look down my long, elitist nose at people that do. Ew. I've never had issues so far with people blending IC with OOC and having the mythical "I think I love you OOC" syndrome, but I'm told the way I put myself in my characters is a potentially slippery slope. And that would end badly because I'm not a nice person in real life. I throw as much shade as I can muster.

Hey all, So I'm currently working on my first ever character on FF14, and I have some questions. I read that the Highlander home city was Ala Mhigo, which fell to the Garleans in 1557. ARR began in 1577, and I don't know what year it is now, but that means a man say age 32 could potentially have been a child when they were defeated. What happens to the citizens of lands conquered by the Garleans? Is it just, "You fly our flag now. Here is your tax estimate." or are they forced into servitude of the Empire? I'm trying to figure out at what point in his life Thoreaux would have left, and when he became a Limsa Lominsan. Also, I just realized I made a mistake when selecting his patron deity in character creation. Do I have to reroll to change it? It should definitely be Althyk.

What would it take to convince you to change a plot?
Larson replied to SaintEaon's topic in RP Discussion
I guess it's as easy as asking me the same question IRL. The answer is "life". Life happens, makes changes, and suddenly plans you had don't seem to be the best idea anymore. It's a bad idea to try to steer yourself toward a goal when everything else is telling you there is something better. -
I don't know about my character but I've always wanted to be a Goobbue.

I'm actually taking an IC route to progression. Thoreaux Vyce is a big, muscled Highlander who for reasons not yet fleshed out decided to become an Arcanist. He and the majestic Carbuncle will travel the land training until the day Vyce can take on the job of Scholar. And then FAIRIES!!! The idea of a big gorgeous statue of a man wandering around with cute little fairies amuses me. He's going to be a goldsmith but mine his own metals because "That's what real men do." And then one day he will be a rich AST with a personality similar to Alexander the Great in Fate/Zero with a little Kanji Tatsumi. Just imagine: Vyce: "An entity of great power may soon cross your path- but guard your heart. Should you give it freely, you may also lose far greater than you have thus far." Random Lalafell: "What's that supposed to mean? Why don't you try speaking real sentences since I'm paying you. I can't wrap my brain around any of this garbage." Vyce: "Here's an idea. Why don't you lay your head down, and I'll wrap your brain around this table with a hammer."

On the subject of Tarot: Tarot as far as the major arcana go do not tell fortunes. They themselves do not answer questions to which you cannot answer yourself. They merely guide you toward the answers you seek by establishing points of introspection and clarity. Example: Say you are having a problem in a relationship. You consult the deck and draw the Devil. This urges you to reflect on your material values. Is the rift between you caused by something wanted but not needed? Are you forcing yourself or one another to accept material objects as a way of life (ergo, might the ball and chain that is your PS4 be weighing down your ability to progress in the relationship and in life?) The addiction to material objects can be escaped at will, but you can just as easily bind yourself again. It all comes down to the choices you make. The deck didn't tell you the answer. It merely provided the stepping stone that helped you reach your own conclusion. Another interesting concept it Eastern vs. Western fortune telling. In Eastern fortune telling, oracles speak in riddles. They either see a fate clearly or in bits and pieces but they do not dare tell the querant directly. This is because they have a concept that a person's fate changes with every decision they make. When you reveal a fate, it becomes set in stone. Every action they may make will ultimately lead to that inescapable future. Thatis why they always speak in proverb, riddle, and ambiguity. In Western fortune telling, oracles have no issue giving straight answers. But you'll recall Oedipus Rex did everything he could to avoid killing his father and marrying his mother. No matter what he did, ultimately his fate was sealed the moment the oracle revealed it. If an AST gives fortunes, the danger of sealing fate seems like it still exists. When we ICly go through the motions of divination and directly reveal fate to another character, it becomes entirely likely; consciously or not, that the RPer behind that character will be sent down a track toward their character coming to that fate. It becomes the responsibility of a good and noble AST to leave specifics up to the other RPer. Unless they ask you ahead of time for a specific fate.

These are all good answers. 5? I think 5. I read that the astrologian not only reads the stars to divine fates, but could actually be capable of handing out a fate much like the green lady in Fables. While potentially very meta, I suppose one RPing a VERY experienced Astro could be utilized as a cure for writers block. Example: Lala:"I haven't been able to think of anything to do with my character in a while." A:"Come see me ICly. I halp." Lala:"Oh great star wizard, what is in store for my future?" A:"You will travel to Limsa Lominsa and become very poor very fast. It will take a great adventure to recover what is lost." Lala:"What!? How?" A:"You must look within yourself to find the answer. Unless you have cash on you now." Lala:*dumps coins on the table* A:"A rogue is gonna snatch your coin bag. I'd tell you to go to a bank but we both know you're too lazy to go." Lala:"True. One more question...how do I get it back?" A:

Since I'm new here I'll share. I'm part of the property management staff of a luxury residence here in DC.

So I did a brief and partially motivated search for this and saw nothing, but ultimately~ I have some Qs that are in need of some A. 1. Has the Astrologian always existed and only recently gained in popularity in Eorzea (possibly those dragonface hipsters made it mainstream?) Or is it something that has only just become a thing? 2. Who started it? 3. Are there only 6 cards? Or could an astro have more cards than the 6 available in game mechanics? If only those six have abilities, I'd think they have others just for divining purposes. 4. What kind of things do they do with the giant astrolabe other than use it as a focus? Other questions pending.

Hmm. I suppose I'll hold on to my first account and see if it is possible to transfer then. Now, As far as characters go, I would guess the kind of person who becomes an Astrologian is going to be a mage to begin with (if I am to understand that these new classes are kind of like tertiary tiers). Sadly I hate playing mage at low levels but I guess I'll have to deal. Can I play AST from a black mage or does it transfer from white only? If I have to be white, my character can hate being "just a stupid mage" as much as I do. If I can start with black, I would lean more toward the occult and fortune aspect that seems to come with AST. Can all races be Astros? Are there armors that aren't "It's not a dress its a -robe-" for males? I think there is only so much meta disdain I can shove into one character~

Hmm, I didn't know about the completion lock on Machinist and Astrologian. I suppose that makes sense, so I guess I'll have to power through the campaign first. In the mean time I suppose I can be ICly aspiring to Astro and Mach while I level. As far as RP goes, forum RP is okay. I do prefer to have the visuals on in-game RP. I guess the first thing to do is make a character...based on the limited understanding I have of the world.

Hello, I'm Attis and I bring you greetings from the Guild Wars 2 RP community. After a few years of, "Gee I wish something better would come out.", I've finally decided to reduce my participation in GW2's roleplay community for a refreshing change of scenery. I played ARR about a year ago and managed to have a low Miqote Bard before losing interest, but with the expansion, I've found excitement for the Astrologian and Machinist classes and plan to resub shortly. I suppose my biggest apprehension about FF14 was and continues to be customization. Knowing my roots in GW2 where there is a very large number of wardrobe combinations, dyes, and facial feature sliders to make a unique character, I was disheartened by what appears to be a very limited range of costume in FF14. There's a huge case of identical twin syndrome. But the beauty of the world along with the uniqueness of the classes interests me enough to give it another go. With any luck I'll find a new home. I currently have a PC account, but will probably make a new account on PS4 and upgrade to Heavensward on PS4. I don't think my PC account can access Balmung or Gilgamesh. That means starting from scratch! So yeah, I guess I'll be one of those lowby Hyur or dragonfaces running around the cities for a while. I have no idea where to begin but I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.

I'm sorry. I have no idea why you would ask that. @Merc. Thanks! That answers a few questions.

Sooooooo. I'm a GW2 RPer, and a Wildstar RPer, and upon the realization that I can make a sexy roguish brute in a slutty mankini while controlling fairies with my magic book, I finally decided to bite the bullet and buy ARR. Well...what's it like? Are there many outfits and customization options to make my character who i want? Is it true that I am going to only have one character for a while? This is okay. It gives me focus. If I can run GW2 on max settings but can only run WS in the lowest settings anywhere but the home instance, do you think I'll be in tears most of the time? Compared to what GW2's RP community was before the post-megaserver exodus, what should I expect? Anything else I need to know?
