  2. Here in DC, the city is divided into four quarters. Like the districts in the Hunger Games, each quarter is known for a specific demographic. At the very center is the Capital Building. Start at Southwest. Southwest is industrial. Warehouses, blue-collar jobs, but then you cross the water to Alexandria and have million dollar condos. People don't really live in Southwest (I'm sure there are houses, but nobody thinks about it as a residential area) and any that do are forgotten. If you were to say "I live in Southwest", people just get confused and ask if you mean Alexandria. Southwest is purgatory. Southeast. Southeast is where you don't want to go if you are A) Not black B)Financially well-off C)Without an edge. Southeast is the crime and punishment quarter. This is the area that most closely matches Baltimore, and has a long, long, long history of Violence. People who live in Southeast are considered the poorest of the poor, and the undesirables. Northeast is Podunk. There is nothing to do in Northeast except go elsewhere. You are away from the tall buildings and night life, but you live on the edge. the edge of safety. The edge of prosperity. People don't want to go to your house because it just isnt close enough to the things they want to do and they might have to walk through a bad neighborhood to get there. And then you have Northwest; the shining beacon of money and everything you could ever want. The streets are clean and safe. There are Starbucks and Au Bon Pain everywhere. The buildings are shiny and attractive and rent is about $2100 minimum for 600 sq.ft. Northwest is mostly white. Mostly government salaries. Mostly fitness/yoga/crossfit enthusiasts who shop at Whole Foods and pay a lot of money for the convenience of spending more money. There is obviously one option. If you want to feel like your shit is together, and you want others to see your shit might be together, you have to open the floodgates of your bank account in DC. While everyone in NW looks well-off, in truth they all work their asses off to keep that appearance going. Some even live paycheck to paycheck. The economy here is so disgustingly bad and we all pretend it isn't, and shrug at the $20 lunch we just had even though we are crying inside. Northwest is beautiful and ideal, and you are surrounded by beautiful, happy people. And it's real happiness. But underneath, most people are living beyond their means just to be a part of relevant society.
  3. Here's a nifty little quiz for everyone to use if someone ever says "check your privilege". Now you CAN! http://www.buzzfeed.com/regajha/how-privileged-are-you I scored a 34/100 <3
  4. Hooray! Almost an entire month of diminishing gil spammers.
  5. How I feel playing a Highlander Scholar: Got the tender healing, the dps, and the body all rolled into one.
  6. I will hopefully edit all this today. Work drama blah. Also, I noticed someone mentioned using Lily in RP. Unfortunately you cannot interact with Lily ICly. She is one individual fairy created by a Nymean scholar whose soulstone the PC finds. You must either find another soulstone or create your own fairy. In my case, Vyce created Nell. But because Nymean magic is still mostly misunderstood, Nell is a bit incomplete. She can only manifest in a Selene form, and is currently able to act as she chooses. Vyce cannot control her actions and must live with a sentient being who is capable of mischief at will. He still cares about her.
  7. Okay, in the event that it will help someone somewhere, I'll share: My views are unchanged as a person who has fought major depression alone, but I respect your feelings. As I said, these hotlines are pretty amazing things. The most powerful medicine is talking about it. When you can have a conversation about it with someone who knows exactly what you're talking about and isn't humoring you or trying to throw sunshine and rainbows in your face, its so much easier to wrap your mind around what is going on. When you realize, "this isn't normal...and other people feel like me", you can start to either seek help or fight it yourself. I did not have access to the help. I fought on my own and then became the person my friends can talk to because I know what its like to have no one. But even then, I don't pity people who give up. It makes me angry. One of the best habits I built for myself makes me look like a crazy person, but it does the job. When the emptiness, regret, and hopelessness start to haunt me, and my mind starts going over all the ways I've messed up, I say, "Stop it." out loud. I command my mind to abandon those ideas. "Stop it stop it stop it." I'll whisper it in public. If I'm in my bed I'll say it at a speaking tone. The craziest part isn't how it looks but that is actually works.
  8. Apparently she hooked him up with one of her man friends and was the best mare at their wedding.
  9. One a scale from 1-10, she rates delicious! Ahmm, I mean great video, totally subed...... On a scale of 1-10, I rate your dad Every one of them is entertaining. Even the ones that aren't normal videos.
  10. IhLc2BGjYvo This is the only channel you will ever need. COMMUNITYCHANNEL I have based entire characters on Natalie Tran. she is a goddess.
  11. "I could ask you the same thing, Madame. I'm not interested in women, even if you -are- Hyur. Not an ounce of meat on your bones." *Thoreaux's fairy; Nell, blows Eorla a raspberry*
  12. I forgot the Lalafell in the Golden Bazaar. "You get a pot, and YOU get a pot. Everyone gets a pot!"
  13. It isn't flavor text, but my most favorite thing from the entire game is: *drumroll* "A BEAUTY REBORN"
  14. Except that it is selfish. People don't commit suicide because they want to die, they do it because they can't find a reason not to. They have reached a point internally where not friends, family, mentors, peers, dreams, nor the fear of death seems worth continuing to exist. It is an unfortunate instance of supreme human weakness. The thing that these hotlines do is not try to convince you not to do it, they help you to reflect on what people and things exist in your life that are worth being around for. A hotline is going to help you figure out, okay are you really alone? What if there is just one person who would be hurt more by you being gone than you think? What if there are ways to make holding on a little longer a bit more bearable? Ultimately, these hotlines save thousands of lives just by being there to listen and to talk. They're important.
  15. To those who think emotional power is dumb, remember that you are calling the core theme of a Beserker class dumb. Beserkers are thematically blinded by anger/rage/insanity. They go Hulk and don't look back (until they hurt someone they love). Playing a canon BLK is a great idea because your personal struggles are going to be visceral and powerful battles with your own mind. Being a voidsent? No one cares.
  16. I've been experimenting with more detailed solo posts. Yesterday I played out a scenario where Nell (Vyce's fairy) taught him a sigil that could illuminate metal objects in a small body of water when written and channeled in his tome. (She kind of indirectly taught him through inspiration). He discovered a brass earring in the scrying pool in the center of the quicksand, which Nell threw back in because who cares about a brass earring. I found it interesting but a little disheartening that a man rolling up his sleeve and shoving his arm into the water after doing something glowy with his tome did not attract even glances from the maybe 12 RPers in the immediate area at the time. These were pharagraph posts that I waited a few minutes in between so as not to clutter up the chat. I really think there is bubble-syndrome in a lot of groups.
  17. Personally, I would just lamp in on a sell, then swoop in and grab it before the other person. It's fair and square if I got it the legal way. [edit] But I do not want to waste my gil on my own house. I'll buy a room inside of a house but I would never spend 5mil on something that transient
  18. Thoreaux wakes Zetchryn up with his usual greeting since being forced to marry her: "Nymea's arse do I have to lint roll my pillows every night? And for once could you clean your own litter box or cook something other than fish?"
  19. The Fairy itself that the MC gets actually has a name - Lily, if I recall. And yet it is still referred to as Eos and Selene when you have it summoned in its respective "forms." Likely it's just there for ease of identification and the mechanics of how the summons work (every other summon is a different thing with different movesets, unless you also consider your two Carbuncles as ACN to also be the same creature). Still, I like to think they're more like stances than anything else, not unlike the Diurnal and Nocturnal Sects of the Astrologian. That and giving the Fairy a name gives it a more... personal feel to it. Gogon's is named Ezra, for example. I'm slowly editing to draw the distinction between scholars and Scholars. I;m completely exhausted and my mind isn't forming it well, but itll change. Also this is great news! I shall name Thoreaux's fairy Nell. She likes to wander around and not sit with Thoreaux. #youcantsitwithus
  20. I'd still like to know...in the first quest, Eos and Selene seem to be the same being but able to interchange. Are there other types of fairy in the world? Are they all named Eos and Selene? It also just hit me (derp) that their names relate to mythos of Sun and Moon. I would assume then that fairies have solar and lunar forms which are a common theme in Eorzea.
