Well I just found some stuff that Sounssy posted that I'll use to rework all of this, but it seems like Garlemald, Nym, and Sharlayan are the big three in magical development. Nym was of course wiped out by a plague, and Sharlayan was abandoned. Only Garlemald continues to develop as a unified force. With that said, there are most likely other societies and cultures that have wonderous magics to explore. I also discovered that Fairies were CREATED by man and are not natural beings.

With your permission id like to use some of this in my little Scholar guide

I'm not sure it's Windows 10 specifically at fault, but I'm sorry that happened to ya, bb.

Silence is called silence is every game. I think it's the universal concept of halting magic basedo n the traditional idea that spells must be spoken. But Silence is more than that. It has more to do with the target's ability to channel magic...like pressing mute during a dramatic part of a movie...the moment loses all its magic. It seems it can halt the flow of aether. Otherwise a dark knight's rage could still manifest and a dragon's fire breath could still spark. Silence even stops the channeling of magics that are based on will alone. Aetherflow is one of those instant, sheer will abilities. Ruin 2 is the point where the Arcanist has mastered the ruin spell to a point where he can summon it at the flick of a finger. No words, just the focus in hand. Its possible that silence breaks the connection between caster and focus. Imagine how it would feel to suddenly go deaf- suddenly you are cut off from truly experiencing the world and can only watch it unfold around you.

This is the most glorious music video known to man 4jBDnYE1WjI

With a few exceptions, such as the Arcanist writing or drawing in the tomes for summons and a few other spells. It's likely there is a collection of sigils and geometric spells already set up in the books, and they just open to the right page, channel magic through them, and RUIINNNNN (Honestly, when I got Ruin II is when I decided "okay...I can stay a scholar. this is very pleasant"

(I thought I'd share some things about Scholars for everyone. If you have more to add or change, feel free to comment and I'll work it in.) What is a Scholar? If you were to go by the Wiki information, you might assume “Scholar”directly correlates to “uses fairy magic and healing”. Well, that is the current school of magic based on old Nymeans teachings and make up the Scholar as a magical class, but there is much more to it than this. A Scholar is an academic. While other professions and jobs seek out practical magic and power, Scholars are the historians, researchers, scientists, mathematicians, and philosophers that seek to understand magic rather than be the master of it. Scholars may travel to distant lands in search of ruins of lost cultures, or may spend lots of time learning from books and even people. The ultimate goal is the oh-so-Sharlayan pursuit of knowledge in the world. Where do Scholars come from? If you look back into Eorzean history, the two nations famous for academia are Sharlayan and Nym, but in modern Eorzea, a scholar can come from any background. The only requirement is the desire to learn and discover. The focal magic of scholars stems from Nym. Even the common attire of a Nymean scholar reflects the origins (mortarboard hat y'all). What about Fairies? In the Scholar job quest, the PC researches the ruins of the Floating City of Nym, where he/she stumbles upon a fairy who immediately forms a pact. Fairies are elementals created by the Nymeans from energies and elements in the world. They would then be bound to the scholar. It is likely our PC's fairy Eos lost her master to the Nymean plague and bound herself to a new one to give herself purpose. Unfortunately, this kind of thing is wildly uncommon though not impossible. Fairies in Eorzea are extremely scarce and thought to border extinction. No matter their actual population, a fairy that currently exists is will be hard for your Scholar to come by. You may find it a personal struggle to explore the world trying to find one. It is also semi-possible to create a new fairy as the Nymeans did, but that magic is not readily available at this time. Fairies in Eorzea, as far as the PC’s familiar is concerned, appear to possess the ability to perform a paradigm shift at will. The two personalities we meet are Eos, and Selene. Eos’ type is friendly, helpful, and strives to protect. She is drawn to noble heroes like the PC. Selene’s type throws a little mischief and mystery into the ring. While a fairy like Eos dedicates herself entirely to protecting her partner, Selene alters the flow of battle and affects the magic rather than shield its target. She is likely more interested in those whose moral principles are nebulous and gray. But remember: You do not have to have a fairy companion if you do not want it, nor is it even possible for every scholar to have one. Unknown: It seems like your fairy familiar can either be like Selene or Eos, but it is unknown if those are general names for the type of fairy or the names of the PC's particular individual fairy. Okay…then what is Scholar magic? The thing is, just because the PC uses Nymean magic taught by a fairy does not necessarily mean you HAVE to. Nymean magic is new to common knowledge (only discovered this year ICly) and you may well have other magic your character utilizes. It could be divination, healing, rituals, telepathy…anything you can imagine a studious individual needing. But remember, Scholars will most likely have support and healing abilities due to the nature of their job. Your character could technically have roots as a White/Black mage, a Summoner, or an Astrologian and still be a Scholar. Do I need to wield a book? You most certainly do! A scholar’s greatest weapon is the knowledge it seeks, and your research has to go somewhere, right? Like an arcanist, the spells a scholar uses in daily life are more potent when the tome in hand is well read. The more care put into the book, the finer the metals in the ink use to write in it, the stronger the channeling will be. The book is the scholar’s tool because it symbolizes and contains everything the scholar stands for. You could have the ugliest, crappiest looking tome made out of dried feces, and it would probably work as long as the ink was on fleek and/or the geometries were drawn with precision. Thing is, silver ink is expensive and hard to come by, and writing spells requires a lot of math and a steady hand. Your character may struggle without these.

Seeking a Role Play partner. Any server
Larson replied to Khal Asher's topic in Chronicled Connections
Okay. Gilgamesh server. We are two Lalafell who just bought our first mushroom house together in the city of Nym. -
Lori's thread just reminded me, I'm seeking a certain someone to play Thoreaux's sister. Here are the specifics: Physical: -Highlander Hyur -either Thoreaux's twin or older -Same sunkissed blonde hair -light blue or light green eyes -slightly more than mid height Professional: -Likely not a mage -Paladin, Rogue (not ICly Ninja), Pugilist/Monk, Lancer/Dragoon, Machinist, Black Mage if your heart is set on it. Personality: -Outgoing -supports reclaiming Ala Mhigo -has a strong sense of duty in whatever she does -aligned good I know these may sound potentially restrictive, but if anyone wants to give it a try, I'd love the partnership. Additional: -Thoreaux is none of the things I listed in the personality section. -I'd like semi-regular interaction, but they do have different paths in life so it's not like you need to make her your main and RP together every day (though it would be cool if she was your main)

And then they end up looking like this in reality /sweats profusely Lol all jokes aside though. Actually I know one that does look like that.

.... Are you sure they're girls calling you a perv though? No, seriously. I have this policy where unless I hear it on voice chat it's a dude until proven otherwise. It's yet to fail me. RP Communties have lots of ladies. But ultimately the player behind the character doesn't matter. We don't exist as far as RP goes. Point taken, and I agree, but if a guy wants to take it OOC and act like a chick when he's not.. And don't say that doesn't happen I've SEEN it...lol I also can't stand it. Think it's pretty weird. Pretty sad. Confession #5? 6?

The two things that definitely make it more fun is that there is head tracking, and population noise. The game gives you visual and auditory proof that there are lots of people there and they are looking around. Sometimes you have to be super sneaky about examining someones armor and click away after opening the window.

Wait let me make that sexy too. Berrod reaches a thick, generously muscled arm toward the Levemete. The veins are swollen fresh with the blood of the morning's workout. His skin glistens under the musk of sweat. In his tough, caloused hand he holds the completed guild leves. "Ugh, what is that awful stench!?" An Elezen woman gags and then promply vomits on the Lalafell standing at her feet. The Lalafell reflexively vomits on her wind-up Tonberry, which kills everyone.

Harden Dickenson attempts to lock eye contact with Warren from across the room. He casually cups the crotch of his pants and attempts to direct his attention from the fact that his lower jaw was blown off in the war.

I haven't really grasped the concept of the dungeon roulette I guess. It seems like at lvl40 when the roulette sends me into Satasha, I'm stuck in a party with a tank that doesn't yet know how to generate enmity, so I'm doing a half-hour of heal spazzing for...a tiny little drop of exp. I don't get the point of making me go through that. Luckily I discovered this morning that there are two more dungeons after Brayflox that are not unlocked through main story, so I'll be doing those tonight and probably getting much better exp. My usual level up is one run of the highest dungeon available to me, and then some hunting log. -Maybe- a fate or two on the way. -maybe- a second dungeon run if there is a lot left. Getting from 38 to 40 was a pain in the ass though with my hunting log capped.

So, the actual music video is beyond NSFW, but I fell in love with this infamous piece of brilliant production a while back. The second half blows me away every time...and the translated lyrics hit home pretty hard. Suddenly this weird Japanese anime music vid with tons of boobs and sexuality becomes a critique on the lives of those of us who have let ourselves gain an unhealthy addiction to what we do. I've personally been in a place where I didn't shower and barely ate for weeks because all of my free time was gaming. You can google the music video. I think the original version is on Vimeo. Production is by TeddyLoid, who did the soundtrack for Panty and Stocking. n0c1N5VO67s

1.) I feel sort of the same about making a heterosexual character, but I get around it by alting a female for variety. The way men and women experience romance is very different, so even though both characters are interested in men, the relationship dynamic functions differently and is a different experience to RP. Having grown up around a lot of women, I suppose it becomes easier to do. 2.) There was a guy last night talking about Communism as if people in Eorzea are going to know that word. They may have a utopian concept, but it isn't called Communism. I appreciated that several people challenged him on it. Lore is absolutely the most important thing in a world someone else created. 3.)I am attracted to things from a commercial perspective and when it comes to my RP, I tailor my characters physically with features that are commercially attractive. If you know the fashion industry you know the type. BUT! It's safe to assume that 99% of our characters are also hot. Face claims are always actors and models. In my mind there is no point in saying how attractive or powerful my characters is because A) I know he is and B) Everyone else can assume he is just based on the customization features I chose. My profiles will never describe my characters are "more attractive than" or compare their beauty to something because it looks dumb and beauty is subjective. If he has defining features like a square jaw, or a chiseled body (I wouldn't use that term), sure I'll note it, but I never want to try to state that my character is in an elite class of beauty. I don't know what Eorzea's beauty standard is, or how sexy the average citizen is.

I'm totally the same way. I got lvl40 in under a week with a full time job. I'm already stressed by the idea that dungeons will be more than just me spamming Physick and the occasional Adloquium or Fey/Leeches. But ultimately I want those glorious A4S weapons, so I must take all the time I can to learn Scholar (and maybe Astro if I decide to main Astro OOC). Me solo-emoting in the Quicksand usually means I hit a level cap on the main quest and the percentage of experience left to go disheartened me enough to take a break. It'll likely be this way until I'm in an FC, have an RP commitment, or reach level 60.
-
So far I have had zero IC interaction with others. I'm pretty sure it's because I emote things like, "Vyce does his best to look unapproachable." or also that I'm not in a FC (I'm queued for recruitment for the one I want). But if I don't emote the metaphorical "Do Not Disturb" sign hanging from his neck, the social rebel in the room won't have the option of disregarding it and bothering him anyway. The struggle is real.

Do You Do: Whether you are walking down a busy street or playing FF14 in a quiet coffee shop, someone at some point noticed you. They may have noticed your clothes, your face, something you did. It didn't draw their attention, but they still registered it. This is the concept behind something I do a lot which I call "solo-emoting". I am what you could consider a "shy" RPer in that I don't often initiate conversations, and tend to let the RP come to me. But just because my character is not interacting with someone else does not mean he is just standing there motionless. He is doing things, and other people may notice just at a glance. In the event that someone felt the need to speak to him, it helps if they have a rough idea of what he is doing. This is what happens: "Thoreaux takes a seat at an empty table off in the corner and buries his face in his book...or so it might appear. He observes the patrons of the Quicksand over the horizon of the tome; people-watching with what he hopes is the stealth of a Ninja." If something interesting happens around him, I'll emote him noticing it and pretending not to notice. Ultimately Thoreaux isn't a very approachable person, so these emotes are unfortunately not very inviting to others, but serial people-watchers are everywhere. I'd rather a passing glance know what he is up to than just have my pixels taking up a seat pointlessly. I usually avoid emoting him noticing any degree of physical features of others he is not currently interacting with because...well..."takes notice of his skimpy swimsuit from a distance" looks like a cry for ERP at least in my mind. Tell me, do any of you solo-emote regularly? Or do you prefer to keep your character's private actions...private?
-
I registered~ I hope I'm not too late. I have so far had zero RP outside of me solo-emoting.
-
Actually I realized Thoreaux might also give out those mysterious strawberry candies that appear in a bowl in old peoples houses with no explanation as to where they came from, how they got there, or how many years they have been there.

Thoreaux: Little pieces of paper with helpful advice like, "Get a job." or "Invest in your future."

I don't see the hot tub. Maybe he's supposed to be a vampire. This is my favorite video on the internet. Even before I played FF I loved this video. It is the sunshine in my morning coffee.
