  1. Thinking about my own character development, I've come to ask the same question for Molt. I have not had the chance to RP anything other than with the Stormguard and the Dalamud event, so I've been wondering about all the past events in Molt's life. It's a bit filled with negative events. Just a smidge...but It's not like I plan to RP them all out and create a big scene from them, and in all honesty, I use them as character defining points rather than agonizing characteristics Molt focuses on day in and day out, especially when ARR comes about (since Molt will treat it as a rebirth, in a way). At any rate, here's a condensed list of bad things >.> ... Age 5 - Not terrible, but school age. due to the lack of red haired elezen running about, I said Molt was made fun of because of it (damn, gingers!). Other than that, he was quirky-- he grew 5 years in a rural village, then moved to Gridania for academics and such. ~Age 10: After being made fun of so much, he killed a close friend and possibly another. I attributed this to a cursed dagger, which was to be used for modern RP-- basically to find the dagger again and become THF class (hopefully Assassin >.>). Possibly an affliction, including a mental thing, but ultimately dropped that. Not sure on this at all anymore, but there's a reason I needed Molt to get out of Grid so that... ~Age 13 / 1557: Garlean Empire takes Ala Mhigo and dominates the planes Molt lived on...then killed his parents. To be honest, I just wanted a creative way to off them so as not to have to deal with RPing them, and give reason as to why Molt ended up somewhere in the next time point. Also, this is when Molt is blinded in one eye from a backfired Blind spell. Used to give some kind of unique disability, I thought. Remedied by enchanted glasses and (eventually) self-made Eye Drops. Same Age, less than a week later: Picked up by a traveling 'merchant'. Not exactly fleshed out, but more or less this merchant either sells or trains Molt in hand to hand combat and takes him to Ul'Dah for underground fighting and illegal gambling. ~Age 15: A rival finds out Molt is actually blind. You see, Molt was doing pretty damn good, but always wore glasses. So this rival, a general nobody and jealous hoe, finds a way to penetrate Molt's defenses and break the glasses. (The glasses allow him to see with both eyes, as long as he takes medication, though without them he can only see with one eye even with the medication.) So, having his glasses break, Molt is sort of...freaking out, doesn't realize the rival brought a knife to a fist fight and tries to stab Molt...and gives him a scar on his face. I hope Elezen customizations allow for what I have in mind! Age 18: Meets girl...still fighting he's so used to it and used to making so much money from it Age 20: Married girl, quits fighting and gets job at the Phrontistery...Age 22: Has child... Age24: The wife and child are nowhere to be seen. This is what Molt obsessed about and is probably what you may have heard in 1.0. He searches completely for a year, then tries to get back to work... Age 25: 1.0. Oh, nothing happens here. Molt still wallows about his daughter. Nothing happens...except for... Still 25: METEOR AND BAHAMUT!!! Years 1-5: Creates a new life/name for himself as a THF by night, merchant by day, making a profit from the Calamity. Soo...I have a good feeling on what I can take out, but I just have to ask...is it too much? Especially in ARR, none of these things will be a wailing issue of Molt's. Killing the kid is the only thing I'd be up in arms about, since it's so dark, but since I couldn't get a hold of a Dated Maddening Dagger, and since I'm not going to give Molt a mental issue (as fun as it would be, since I've done it before!), it feels like it almost serves no purpose other than to get Molt's parents where they needed to be to die. If they did not die there, I would have to rework the teenage years to where...I guess they moved to Ul'Dah and he chose Pugilist as a profession, then...Meteor came about and killed his parents, or they took the boat out. It's all doable, but I'd like some feedback. Most would only read all this OOCly and would probably never know anything about it if they RPd with Molt, unless if they got close enough. Yet I wonder if it's just being too attention whoreish, or drama queen-esque.
  2. So, I'm no artist. I drew a damn good bird once, though. That aside, when I came up with the idea to create a canvas covered in sheet music and a music staff made of melted crayons, I had to check myself into a mental institute to make sure I wasn't 100%, rather than the normal 69%, retarded. The only true canvas work I've done was a water color piece in the fifth grade. And it was just splashing colors onto paper. So I come to you all, hoping for some positive feedback on the creative direction this piece will go, so I can actually make it and give it to my girlfriend in time for February. In case you are not familiar with Crayon Art, or specifically melted crayons, it goes a little something like this: http://www.buzzfeed.com/donnad/creative ... crayon-art Basically, you melt crayons onto canvas. It's simple in concept, but comes out very neat at times. I'd like to use this idea as the inspiration of the piece, since some of it will be melted black crayons. An additional method not posted is using stencils: http://artemamoris.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d4iawy0 So, below are snapshots of my sketches. They're not the best quality, buuuut...yeah. The main project is this: A rectangular canvas will be covered in sheet music, similar to the pattern on the first image-- torn/cut up in a collage-like fashion, highlighting nothing in particular, as it will just be a background. Then, black crayons will prolly be put in a hot glue gun and be dripped in 5 melted lines to form a staff. There's the matter of notes (I got her to pick out two bar's worth) and the G clef-- I'm not quite sure how to add them, but I suppose if I paint the canvas black first, then place some masking tape as a stencil down, this should suffice. I'm not 100% sold though. http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh589/v3rdict/Crayon%20Project/2012-12-19_23-40-25_261_zps6e71b0bc.jpg[/img] This first image is my first ideas. Should the notes be dripped on? Should the staff pinch, then come back, kind of like the Pink Floyd prism, to create a black staff that emerges color? What notes should I have? Should it have some clever meaning? - The GF did choose some notes, so I suppose that's one question answered... ------------------------------------------ http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh589/v3rdict/Crayon%20Project/2012-12-19_23-40-59_805_zpsb95bd8ed.jpg[/img] An even grander design I thought of: The first bar is plain, while the second bursts into color. If that were to be the final design, I would imagine putting down a base of wax (probably would have to be a guided hairdryer method rather than glue gun), then a glue gun line-in of staff lines. One worry is the thickness of the wax. Then, there's the bottom portion, depending on how big the canvas is. Should there be a quote? What kind of quote? ------------------------------------------ http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh589/v3rdict/Crayon%20Project/2012-12-19_23-41-13_278_zpsadab69a4.jpg[/img] Further on the blast of color design, but with two full bars. This would mean the colored portion could be thinner, and more random. The color could be simple or complex-- as long as it showed that the music was sort of...coming to life, in a way, or was responsible for such color. - But it begs the question...how big should this be? If I could go longer (full two bars+) then it could be skinnier, then a quote wouldn't fit, which would be nice. Speaking of quotes...how would I put it on there? stylized letters with paint? As you can tell, I suck at writing... --------------------------------------------- http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh589/v3rdict/Crayon%20Project/2012-12-19_23-41-30_215_zps6e3417fb.jpg[/img] Basic design, but almost sad. The staff lines would drip and almost pour into a pool of color. There would be a mixed color base and possibly glue gun note accents-- thin, but show it's melted as well. This can be stouter, and therefore can have a quote, pending canvas space. -------------------------------------------- http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh589/v3rdict/Crayon%20Project/2012-12-19_23-41-42_203_zps080560f9.jpg[/img] A different design, but back to the original, except with something in the middle providing a focal point. No other notes would be on the staff. Then what should be in the middle? -------------------------------------------- http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh589/v3rdict/Crayon%20Project/2012-12-19_23-41-59_689_zps5092a36f.jpg[/img] Finally, the simplicity design. if all else fails, and I mess up, I can create a smaller, more basic piece....or...should this be what I choose? ----------------- So, I'm a little over the place. I have yet to go over to Hobby Lobby and see the different sizes of canvas to work with, much less have a clue on which I should choose. This is going to a Music Therapy major, the sheet music in the background will be mostly my old trumpet pieces, or copies of (if I can get a hold of some brownish paper...if possible) and maybe some of her old, donated sheet music (I'll tell her she won't be able to get them back! -.-. If you have ANY ideas on what I could do, what would look better, or if you have a completely better design, PLEASE shed some light unto me! I'll try to get to the store after Christmas and pre-sketch out how big this may end up. I've never done something like this before, and any feedback at all would be greatly appreciated! =)
  3. I ignore the holidays, as well. I mean...technically speaking, in that one year, you /do/ get one shot at each holiday...but then if you make it a point to take your wife/daughter out on the designated Ladies Day, you're kinda bunked.
  4. Since they need to fill about 1000 spots to keep testing zone/server stability with their goal of 1000 people in active battles simultaniously, and I think an eventual 5000 person server load, I can see why they're sending out Alpha invites to begin with. That, and I think Yoshi-P really wants to show of the game, and it's another way to keep the current community satisfied and interested until ARR.
  5. 1572- Well, it's fine with me, and the only thing I can offer is shift 2 years worth of RP to 1570, since nothing RP or Lore wise happened that was big enough to note. This shouldn't be too much, just a minor technicality. I think. 5 Years- I'll be aging Molt. I should have journals up of his exploits or something...unsure how to RP it out, but might make an open thread or too.
  6. FRAPS takes a buttload of screenshots in order to make what seems to be film. The creator made it sort of as a 'hack' in that way. I, myself, don't have a lot of space, so I'm definitely interested as well. If needed, I can provide you with a Pro copy of FRAPS...just....don't ask where it came from *cough* and if you need a site for another program, I have it.
  7. Just watched the latest one and, yeah, if you haven't seen the video you will definitely want to take a look-- I know it's almost 2 hours, but it has a lot of information than the posted 35 questions (of which the answers were cut down)
  8. Yoshi-P likes leaking details here and there, that's often not recorded, and shows screenshots, gameplay, and concept art not viewable on the forums (often because he wasn't supposed to show them >.>) The last live cast before this one I missed but read the questions in the forum. I ended up watching the video after subtitles were given and I felt as though I came out with even more info.

    Lost Years

Let's see...I guess spoilers, but this is all going to be hard to RP-- though I'm definitely open to it! Of course any bit or all of this may change depending on what will actually happen to Eorzea. 0 - Molt attends the battle of the flats, partly to search for someone, or anyone he may know but mostly on a last ditch effort to prove something to himself and make something of his life-- or last remaining moments of his life. Shortly after the key dropped to the earth is when Molt decided..."nah, eff this es", and G'd up. This is where he obtains a chocobo, and tries to gtfo as fast as possible, relying on Bahamut to take his time flying around (such as his flight of Limsa-- pretty far away). This is not to say there are not any instances of a bucking Chocobo or injuries, but it's general enough for a start. 1 - Molt retreats to a cave in Thanalan, Thal's Respite? Leaves the cave for the first time a week later, but stays holed up in the cave for about a month, venturing out little by little for food. Eventually he returns to Ul'Dah, attempting to reclaim anything he once had in a rented inn room. Noting such destruction, he makes his way to Gridania. Seeing the destruction here, he gives up-- surely Limsa is no better off. The third or fourth month of the year he visit the impact site. While there, he takes weapons and armor-- and anything else of value laying around-- to eventually sell them (if it's possible to visit, much less reclaim anything). Possibly a mysterious mark forms on one or both of his arms. Hides goods and surveys Ul'Dah 2 - Makes a pilgrimage. He starts in the plains east of Gridania, near Ala Mhigo, to a location that was leveled some time ago. He spends weeks excavating the site, finding a necklace, presumably his mothers, while camping out or staying a few nights in Ala Mhigo (assuming it's not destroyed). Takes his pilgrimage and travels the land, staying nowhere twice. He picks up anything worth selling on the way, stopping sometimes to visit the flora to stock up on ingredients; regents and such. 3 - Finishing his journey, he returns to Ul'Dahl to check the progress. There's not much, so focusing on crafting/doctoring biz during the day, he also trains at night. This is probably the time when the Garleans will be sending out more than scouting parties, so it's also a time to start selling his supplies. 4 - Possibly back and forth between Ul'Dah and the Black Shroud/Gridania. He focuses on training, picking up some Black Magic, refines White Magic, and hones his combat with use of a dagger, his fists, and a pole arm, possibly swords. If he did not gain the mysterious mark in Year 1, then he instead gets a tattoo, for the hell of it-- he himself is changing from what he once used to be, after all. 5 - He hones in on his training. By now, he should have picked up the basics and even advanced skills of a sword and armor smith, since having to sell them requires knowledge, use and practice in the art. His Alchemy should be maxed out, and healing techniques should be comfortable. If he gained the mysterious mark, his black magic training should be more focused on the Umbral/Void/Shadow magicks. This isn't his everyday thing, the magic is just used in his combat skills. Place of residency in ARR is unknown. There's so many variables still unknown. Will that cave that Molt used to hide out be in ARR? Where will Bahamut be? What will be the total city devastation? What will be left of the battlefield under Meteor? Whose forces will be in that battlefield, and how long will it take them to go there? How are people going to react in those five years and how will they adjust? I wonder, too, what will we get to do to our existing characters when ARR launches-- Rename? Reassign cosmetic changes and deity? Nameday? What about citizenship? I often wonder what would happen if I simply remade Molt, so I can enjoy his two classes over again, and start fresh. I also wonder the cost of having alts-- because at the old price, I was paying I think $16-19 to have 4 characters-- because I want to enjoy all the classes, I don't like picturing Molt in all of them.
  10. They said they will repost one of those official road maps at the end of the year in the LIVE update. They said they're about 2-3 weeks behind due to Alpha server stress tests crashing at 800 people, so that's their current hardware focus. It was also stated release is slated for end of February or beginning of March, most likely in March.
  11. So, since I don't normally use skype but about twice on my phone, how does it work for our use? Is there like a chatroom, or is it all of us with our webcams?
  12. lol...Roll Play...there's a meme in there, somewhere! I like the recap, but I thought that it was going to cover a bit more, but I suppose that's good enough until they release what Bahamut will be doing short after his final attack-- if the attack is the final " FUUUU" attack and then promptly hibernating, that's one thing, but if he's soaring the skies, it's certainly something else entirely, and adds so much thought depending on what he does (Take sacrifices and a dragon tax? continue leveling the land?). I must knoooowww!
  13. Double post! Also, visit Dier's stream for bewbage!
  14. Thanks for the streams! Interesting to see how you guys....art. Been meaning to get into Photoshop, and came close but always had to stop because of something.
  15. If you can hold a black Tee with red print until January the 5th, that'd be amazing! I don't think we'll see commercial selling of real Meteor Survivor Polos from SOE other than at special events and cons, so I'd love to get a hold of one-- just can't shell it out at this time.
  16. If you're looking for a challenge, I have one for you. I don't want to have Molt be too feminine, but I do enjoy seeing different art styles of what I think encompass him. But that would be the first challenge. The second would be setting up a few scenes I think. Perhaps one of him and his mother when the Garlean's invaded their village, or some kind of...what's the word? I guess a dedication to him, his ex wife and daughter, with him in the foreground and the two in the back, the child looking back and reaching out. I dunno, but I have some ideas, and would be willing to pay you back somehow in ARR if you were interested! Men in anime are often feminine anyways, considering the lack of certain bone structures in the face and stance of the body. Most men in anime are tall and lanky, so no defining, masculine muscle structures. You of course have a step above anime, and I have to say I am smitten by your style, so add me to the list!
  17. I remember looking at the trailer and realizing there's no crystal formations at all, almost as though when SE announced that there were forces in Thanalan, they made the CG then and forgot to make it of Mor Dhona. But I guess that's the Flats... As always, there's still so many questions, and I just have to pray that they really enrich us in the lore for ARR. Bahamut's still prowling around, and I still have yet to find evidence that we found a way to break the cycle. I mean...we/the Twelve could have weakened Bahamut, I guess, and I like ED's ideas of having the Twelve's influence remaining after. Now that it's mentioned...I would have liked to see the Path in that cutscene, as well. To me, it seemed as though the quests ended abruptly, and left a lot of questions (Such as the...spectre-looking things that only appeared in that one CS...). It would have been neat just to have a cameo by Minfilla (sp?), looking out the window of the Bazaar of Ul'Dah and wreckage rains down outside. But I think when it comes down to that, there's odd riffs in the lore and twists away from old plots because the game had to be recovered, old plots had to be tied, and new plots involving the end had to be put in. But then I wonder...was Dalamud's descent planned from the start? Or was it supposed to be the Garlean's, and the next expansion would open up Ishgard, more Garlean stuff, and possibly a way into the empire? Who knows?
  18. Well, correcting myself...that dragon (Who I shall name Bahamut, and shall be the name of my next cat) looked pretty pissed at the end. I'm guessing those are...proton beams, or at the very least pissed-off-fire-beams were collecting above him, with his head cocked up, as Bahamut is known to do from time to time. Eorzea's F..err..done for. I definately want to see if it is eventually suppressed and the total damage he caused for sure-- I'm guessing Mhor Dhana is...a crater >.>...which explains the previous trailer with the sword-frozen-area.
  19. That was.......amazing....I'm at a loss for words. I've never seen such...in a video game, such...I mean...uh... But, anyways, I hope they cover exactly what happened just after this cut scene because, from the looks of it, even the Twelve could not contain the dragon...so then...what happens next? unless if the swirling energy at 5:11 was part of the destruction of the dragon...or maybe the dragon's last attack?
  20. HAY! Don't forget mee! I wanna Outer Circle spot!
  21. love it! Dang, though...If that's really the cost of a hoodie, it's no wonder they run so expensive at geek/gaming shops
  22. lol...Role-Play police...nice, Rhio-- that was probably the wrong in "diplomatically wrong" =P Well, you stated in the article you were more familiar and, if I may, acquainted better with Lior, so it only makes sense that your sectioned off opinion was Lior biased, and because it was sectioned off (well, as much as you could), I don't see too many issues at all. Half of the article was your opinion, the other half was simply a message to calm down and continue role-playing, despite any past issues. I'm only slightly bothered that Kylin took heat from this. I mean, I read it and was immediately disappointed, because I KNEW comments were going to flow underneath that article, just of the way it was worded, sectioned off opinion or not. Hopping over there just now, I'm glad it was...sort of not focused on Kylin, but again, not surprised the same issues the article rehashed and tried to get past were being discussed. It's not too good... But in all honesty, if there is someone who reads that and makes their decision on how/where/who to role-play with most likely won't be much of a community player, in my opinion. That's usually how it is for any community group or any real life scenario-- The people who skip doing the research and don't take the object seriously won't use it/participate sincerely. RPC and even Lior's site need good people or else these passive-aggressive to hateful comments will keep going. Oh wait, this is the internet...well, the negative comments will keep flowing, but if there were lots more good peeps around, it wouldn't matter. ANYWAYS, I'm sorry, I'm rambling on. I'm glad to see a lot of users here and in the comments section saying to "just RP and have fun". These users, as well as myself, are ready to move on and start planning for the bright skies of the future, it seems.
