  1. Hey Nel, it seems that your voice keeps getting quieter or farther away with each video. I'm not sure if you noticed, but yeah =P On that note, I'm not sure what you have to work with (or what's necessarily needed, for that matter), but if you're able to, I would try to play with the settings of the sound so you can to see if the music covers your voice too much.
  2. If it assists your character's RP in any way, dye is fairly common as a harvesting material, so I can imagine you can use it for your character, as well.
  3. Especially depending on our abilities to switch citizenship in game for our 1.0 characters, this might be a good option to fix. I personally would like to see this fixed. Everything may be up in the air, but I may do some switching around myself with citizenship and Grand Companies. I'm sure by now Molt has bought his citizenship, or had a while ago, but in light of Bahamut's rampage, I may have him either change or get dual-citizen status with Gridania. Depending on if I make Molt help in the recovery efforts of Gridania, I may have hom join the Twin Adders in order to do so...but it's almost out of character for him. I digress...-.-; I'm sure dual-citizenship status would be rare with RPers, and I'm not even sure I would do that, especially considering you don't need any citizenship unless...well, there is no unless for now, but I'm wondering if the housing system will require it (in lore or without lore). On top of all this, I'm not sure it would be possible to do dual/triple citizenship categorizing in the Wiki, AND still have a Grand Company spot. But I'm all for supporting the Grand Company/Citizenship change (just in case for Molt, or for any other characters I may make).
  4. I agree-- I wouldn't mind seeing a bit more details on the linkshells because 1) Heavy RP is subjective and 2) I'd rather see a few select stats about the linkshell before delving head first into them by tearing apart their rules, policies, their forums, ect ect.
  5. Got my RP figured out, so I can't go... Molt: /em wakes up from his nap and gets ready to go to the tavern. Molt: /em looks at new bewbs Molt: /me looks down at crotch Molt: /em runs to lock his her inn room door and closes all the windows. . . . . . Molt: /em isn't seen for days....
  6. Luis: /me teleports everyone for safety...almost forgets Derplander and teleports him at the last second. Imagines all the adventurers from past and present spawning on top of each other at the same time in exactly one specific spot. Luis: /smirk --- Derplander: /em teleports in at the last minute, looks down on top of the pile of people. Derplander: /smirk Roeg: You left your weapon, Derplander! Derplander: /suprisedconfusedsmug look, like he did it on purpose...or is completely oblivious...
  7. I'd say for both parties players can at least start fleshing out some story work in the Beta. I'm sure there will be a few things locked, but at least it will give us the lay of the land and a little insight to what happened after the events that took place. I would say any stage of Beta would do for either group of players and those who can't get in until Phase 4 or even release would naturally wait. I just don't see too much canon being formed in even Beta 4 since those who will RP it will be busy checking landmarks and asking each other "What happened to you??". Not to mention that while we may be able to form FC's and LS's, it'll all get deleted up until Phase 4 so any special gear or treasure added to inventory that a character may inherit wouldn't be solid in their story until then. In theory it should unfold naturally. Personally, I'm going to try to get a bit of cannon RP in, but I may be too busy. I'll have school and work and I may just end up exploring gathering/tradeskilling and checking out landmarks and achievements. That and bug report/content requests. I have very few ties with the rest of the RPC so far, so RP for me would be along the same line as the new/returning players without legacy-- establishing character presence and a bit of backstory injection.
  8. Hope there's another rp event soon! The tavern thing may not be everyone's favorite, but for the purpose of the event, it's perfect!
  9. I apologize for instigating this original argument and perhaps that my initial reaction was a bit too surprised for not considering how tall Elezen really are. When I was running around in 1.0 I only noticed it once in a while, but otherwise everyone was just the same-- aside from the Lalafell and Miqo'te who generally seemed smaller, but regardless. It was not in my place to get excited once I saw someone else RPing outside of the norm, only to realize that it more than likely /is/ the norm (or at least the taller aspect of the norm) That being said...considering that in the real world we have these outstandingly tall people, I don't see what's wrong with having the same figures in a fantasy setting. I guess the whole point of the character creation slider might be to give an idea of the smallest and tallest of a race, but I'm betting it doesn't count the 8 foot Hyur that, while rare, is still an anomaly that happens every once in a while. Then, considering if Elezens are around 7' or so, or if they're supposed to be around 6-7', then I guess 7'9" isn't even that bad and can't be considered that outside the ordinary. I mean there's gotta be some considerable leeway. that and this is a fantasy world we're talking about and we shouldn't be so obsessed with making sense in a world where we ride on giant yellow birds and cast magic >.>
  10. EVA STOP SETTING THE BIRDS ON FIRE! :bomb:
  11. Molt at 13 is probably under normal Elezen height for his age. He just started his pugilist/underground fighting training and will have only just started to fight. At this age he had a little -tiiiny- bit of pudge that has yet to go away on his belly, but otherwise starting to show decent muscle structure, little more than a scrawny elezen child. When fighting, he would wear something similar to the Coliseum Shawl and Subligar, though normal times he's just in a generic tunic . I found one image to model off of: http://imgur.com/zi5n6QV. If you're familiar with the ranger's tunic, that's pretty plain as well. He has no scar, no markings, but would have black-rimmed glasses, not unlike the Weathered Spectacles. His hair would be actually short, so as not to get in the way of his fighting, but long enough to be unkempt. Bright green eyes behind the lenses and dark red hair. I'd say fist wraps are always covering his hands/knuckles even when not fighting.
  12. Ha! Ok, good -.-; though I'm sure the freakish character models don't help much
  13. 7'7"?? Aw crap, how tall do Elezen get? Is there a post somewhere?
  14. YES, that should be the prize-- especially if there's going to be chocobo breeding, after all! Well, if you can sculpt, knit or cook one, go for it!
  15. Ah, I see! I guess that makes pretty good sense. Hmm, I didn't think of that application, but I like where you're going with it! I'm certainly interested in this Linkshell, so if there's anything needed of me, I can definitely assist further.

  17. I absolutely love this idea. I wish I had caught back up fast enough to post some more thoughts, but at the moment they escape me. More or less, though, I'd love to see this come to fruition. First off, let me say that I'm thief biased-- it's been my archetype in games since...forever! When I initially read the OP, I immediately thought of the Elder Scrolls' Thief Guilds (Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim, take your pick!), especially at the mentioning of the shadowmarks, but depending on what the marks mean, or even how many there are, it's really not such a thief aspect. Grazing through your OP again, and looking at your latest post, I realize it's brotherhood, more than anything. And it's sorta hard to explain in real-life terms, but the closest thing I can relate it to is the feeling you get when you enter a new city, or a new town or heck, across the world-- wouldn't you want to be able to fall back on a family, or a group of people you know you can trust? Adding the marks, when you enter a new area you've never been, it allows you to know that someone /is/ there if you look hard enough. Adding the verbal signifiers definitely helps build that, as well. I just so happen to be part of a large (like...worldwide) fraternal organization, so while I cannot explain it completely, I can at least understand completely and relate. So, for these markings. You mention that a single one person can create the mark, then someone else can finish it. Was there an idea behind that? At first I thought that wouldn't mean too much. Once the mark was fully completed, then what? But I reconsidered-- There was at least one adventurer nearby or in the area. Another comes by, sees it, and marks it. A third will come by and see it, and notice that there is at least a couple, if not more of his/her brethren in the area. Of course, where these marks are placed, what will be on them and what their actual meaning still has to be fleshed out, but I see a lot of potential. For example: building off the previous mentionings of the mark, what if there was a design or mark you could keep adding on to show "how many" of these people are actually in the area? But then, if they're wanderers, certainly they're not there for long, so perhaps there should be a specific mark outside a tavern if there's either known brotherhood influence, or if it's a safehaven (cheaper supplies, a roof over your head even at full capacity), or if it's a mixture of both and someone from the brotherhood OWNS the place? I'd hate to copy right from Skyrim, but it's a great idea, and at any rate I'm sure it's not the first time an organization made subtle markings outside of buildings to help the members out. But then again, with the correct vocal recognition, that may not be even needed, so it goes back to where should markings go, and what do they mean if you find one, and if they indicate the area has members, what if they...well...wander somewhere else? As for the leadership thing, I'm mostly in agreeance. Other MMOs had permissions built in to designate who's allowed to recruit. Before those permissions were in place, I think only officers could invite. I'd say, let that be the only reason why there's an officer status, unless if there's a way to let everyone (or most everyone) invite. I like the idea of allowing only officers to invite, though. To me it's traditional, but also adds that sort of...approval needed to make sure the person receiving the invite should even get one. Not to make it sound elitist, but that's often necessary due to trolls and those who may have scorned their reputation in the RP community. The only problem I see is making sure there's always an officer on. In order to remedy that, there's gotta be a lot of officers...which means there's probably going to be less of a filter on the incoming people. Another option I guess would be to give new recruits an invisible 'probation' period and, if the permission allows it, let them have inviting status. I dunno, just throwing it all out there. >.< The secrets sharing again reminded me of a Thieves Guild, but I can kinda see the wider use for it: Where's the best place to hunt? Where's a good place to stay? Which merchant is more likely to bend on his prices if you bake him a pie? It's about having a solid family or brotherhood behind your back, knowing the ins and outs of the world around you, giving you the lesser known secrets of the world to more or less help a member out to only ask you pay it forward. Am I at least close to thinking that's the right idea? I think you'll be able to draw in a lot of players. Secrecy and personal identification via secret handshakes or phrases get ate up like a Moogle in a Kupo Nut store. Giving players the feel of being a part of an organization that, even if it's not secretive, is seclusive and less known about, and giving them organizational identifiers in any way is a great incentive to want to join. But what is your idea of content? I think for sure this is an adventuring linkshell that players can definitely fall back on if they need assistance, but what about RP-wise? Do you plan for the LS to hold events? In a guild like this, I can kinda see the RP just...well, /happening/ regardless of anything planned, so I think that's something you may not even have to worry about, but how do you make it so that this isn't just the last RP ls on the list that people call on backup for for filling a hole in the group? Granted, this isn't to be a main shell, but having it on the back burner would allow the guild to collect a lot of dust from inactivity.
  18. lol...tiny Moogle Mog... No sign of Siren, so I'm guessing that will come at some climactic point or the end...it was sorta hinted that it would be one PC race's 'primal' but...meehhh mostly speculation. Oh yeah, there was a hint on the Dev Blog that Tonberries are coming back! Maybe............
  19. Uhhhhhh.... http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Dragoon_%28Job%29 Not as pointy, but I wouldn't cuddle with any of them! I've seen Fenrir, and it was hinted that one of the bird things was Siren-- so where's this mentioning of Shiva >.>..... Nevermind.... http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/blog/post/171 Anyways, Molt has like...a sliver of training in Dragoon (like...enough to Jump, but it's my only lvl 50!), and likes using certain polearms. If you need, he can be your model...but I'd like to really hold off on the Ninja/Assassin (Thief) slot! Though with Summoner in on release and more interest on Musketeer, it may be until next year >.<
  20. ((EDIT: I am soooo sorry this is so long >.<)) First off, this seems like a great idea, and as Mtoto said, it's been done before but fell apart. One of the reasons why (neglecting internal conflict, as I was not here) it may have fell apart was because FFXIV was well on its last limbs, and had it not been hope for 2.0, so would have been the RP community. But now that 2.0's coming, and it's a brand new beast, tamed by someone as confident as Yoshi-P, and with the natural gathering power of releasing brand new content, you better believe this place, and FFXIV will /thrive/ for some time. Now more than ever is a fantastic time to create a new guild, as you get new RPers and old. That being said, you have a guild concept appealing to a wide array of people. Though you require a good/neutral alignment and have an emphasis on the twelve, you give the player a choice on how much "religion" the player can bring in. Otherwise it's a goodie-based guild. Though, really I've yet to see an evil-based guild, or much of a evil person (true evil, rather), but really this isn't much of a faction game like WoW/EQ2, so it is what you make it. You have a military aspect (especially if you 'play' off of the PvE side) and you also have the magic/scholarly side. That's a wide aspect, and depending on the RP that you provide/create and host for events. The Military/Academy theme, individually or together, provides a lot of self-sustaining aspects. Forums are a common location to set any headquarters and background information needed, while the game provides the modern/active setting. The guild chat could also be the HQ location, but the most popular use is, well...a chat medium for real-time. I've seen guilds in other games where they use enchanted badges or earrings as the medium which they speak in. Since FFXIV has linkPEARLS, one would assume...it's a pearl...but what do you do with the pearl? How do you speak into it? How do you listen to it? Anyways, I got off a little bit off topic. Basically, it's self-sufficient. Having these chat mediums and a good backstory, you give something the players can work with until you can interact as a guild to other guilds. Everyone will be in game RPing with themselves, and there would be enough dynamic for them to RP to do so as you set up camp to get internal and external events running. You can give the guild a mysterious background, having its headquarters either in a foreign land or in Eorzea and have the past members decimated with little survivors. Rediscovering the fortification or head quarters is not only a great starter event (once you have enough members), but it can start to define who the guild is as a whole and define how the new members view and take seriously the guild. This also provides grounds for new/creative injection of RP about the guild or its backstory as you go through the 'HQ' (which for the sake of imagination, you could find any ruins in the game and RP the travel there, then RP going inside an instance or open dungeon). Now, that was only an example, but it's actually very very similar to a guild I used to be in from 1.0. The guild existed before and fell apart, and when I came in, it was about reforming this guild to it''s former glory and one of the RP events was gathering together and going out to discover a lost, abandoned fort and reclaiming it. The leadership allowed people to 'find' things that they would think that they would find in the rubble to either help progress the story along (my character found some notes and took some charcoal sketchings, and it counted more or less as an unlock) or create small, new things to add to the backstory (Say, if someone found a certain type of book full of spells that would define what type of spells the knights had used back then). So there's a lot you can do once you got even an inkling of a backstory and want to get the guild formed. A lot of these goals will come in time. The most important thing is to set at least one overall goal or theme to the group. This is a military/academy, so teaching people how to defend themselves responsibly while protecting the weak and sick may be one. You do have a PvE side, so that does put emphasis on the military side, an perhaps the military aspect has a different goal than the academics/magic side. Depending on the lore of the guild, you could have the magic side focusing on deciphering and studying things the military finds out in the field, in order to find something out there in the world or something of the past. While you have a lot of leeway with your overall military/magicka theme, it's also harder to boil down exactly what you want, but don't forget that the people you recruit should guide you, too. That doesn't mean skimp out of the backstory, but it does mean that the success of the backstory depends on the people believing in it or executing it. Oh, and don't forget to give members something special for joining. Something very popular is a mark that distinguishes them from other guilds. Something that the people can RP in front of others, like a tattoo or a piece of jewelry. They eat that stuff up . Even more if you give each and every member something personalized, like a nickname, or something! As for the difference in linkshell and free company: A linkshell will be a manageable chat channel. You will be able to see who belongs to it, who's online and everything, but all it is is a glorified chat channel. You can have multiple linkshells. A free company is every sense of the word "guild" from other games as it'll have a roster, multiple ranks and of course a shared guild hall/home, but you'll only able to have one. If you are absolutely serious about sharing the PvE side of this guild, you have to consider that you may not be able to be a linkshell, as RPers will not join a Free Company so lightly, and regular players will not join a linkshell to raid. In reality there's no difference, because there are no raids, so a group is a group is a group, but there will be content that comes up that will tailor to free companies (no clue what FFXIV has planned, but if you know other MMOs...). In addition, regular players will not want to join a guild they have to share guild chats with people who are RPing. You may be able to make a FC for the PvEers and a LS for the RPers, but...then at that point you'd be raising two guilds with the same/similar name. But I see the concept you're going for, believe me. I want to RP /and/ have a group of people I can reach endgame with and consistently group with. It might just be difficult mixing the two.
