Snot Stellwagon, reporting in!

I'm one of those heavy RP/Endgame people and I'm really interested in PvP as well! As for the Golden Saucer, not much has been leaked but it might see release in the expansion.

EQ2 was the same way when PvP was introduced as Battlegrounds on PvE servers There was a Paladin and Mystic duo that dominated some grounds, actually. Some classes we're so OP that you had to throw waves at them, such as Brawler. But I feel confident in saying that it won't be as much of a case in a RP community, since it seems we all have different levels of progression, so everyone could, effectively be a wildcard. Well, mostly. I like the points mentioned about backing up your character's taunts. While RP fighting and PvP could be a solution in either way,I think it's most important to actually...I dunno, not be a bitch about it and cop out. But that's a different thing entirely, probably built for a thread named "RP Etiquette" Otherwise, as this thread has shown, I think there's an interest in PvP here, and it should remain a choice. Maybe not an all the time thing, but it's certainly nice to mix things up a bit, especially if you know you and your opponent are evenly matched. More importantly, it should be met with the same respect as we give each other when RPing normally.

So, in my experiences in EQ2, I noticed this whole sideline thing ALL TO OFTEN. It always seems to start 1 V 1 but eventually both players end up having a small group arrive to help. If the fight isn't organized at all, it can get messy as paragraph after paragraph flies through the chat box. That is, to say...if you aren't ignored. I felt border-line offended knowing that a couple times my character, or rather my OOC attempt to include my character, was blown off. Of course, better thinking allows me to realize that there's just too many characters on the screen, attacks coming from every direction, and no control over the chat box so things are bound to be missed. Having a choice of PvP could ease these troubles... or, you can /say ((Hey guys, hold off one second, let's try to pair off into groups to clear out the clutter and get more organized!)). Either way. Witnessing two players go at it, and you're nothing but a number in the small crowd, it's a little different, and I have to admit boring sometimes, depending on what the fight is about and how my character is involved/perceives it and if he was there to actually hear what's going on. But if the fight drags on, I'm apt to leave. If I'm part of it, and have to wait until the fight is over? Well, then I guess I'll be taking a few smoke breaks, lol. PvP could expidite this, especially if anyone is strapped for time, or open communication to decide how to progress things faster. Often times, it's the "My character's not going down! Oh yeah? Mine's not either!" mentality that we ALL have been guilty of somewhere along the line. My experience with PvP in RP has been sparce, but I've fought enough in my time as an Assassin in EQ2. I'm one of those people who love to work on their characters as much as possible, because I take pride in my little baby Molt. Well, except in XIV...Molt was SoL for any Scout classes and I have to admit, 1.0 /barely/ held my interest. But anyways, I will admit that I won almost every PvP RP fight, mostly because I put a lot of effort in my class. Gear (despite not being a raider), *correct* skill points, positioning tactics and hotbar organization made the difference. (sigh) Sorry, getting sidetracked. Anyways, RPers are so different from each other, that it's hard to predict who actually put time into their class and there's always a mix of high levels and low levels, and it's sort of fun like that sometimes. But a common discrepency I've noticed is that there are VERY FEW RPers that actually go out and get the best gear, arrange their hotbars in the best way, put all their attributes and skill points in the correct* slots. This makes it so a lvl 40 Assassin can get the upper hand of a 45-50 Shadow Knight. The problem that I see is that there are people who focus soley on social RP and say that they are more experienced than their physical level. But then what about the people who put effort in both RP and PvE content? No one will be satisfied, so I guess we're back to square 1. Oh wait, we're not. We're at square 2, because as fun-loving, mature (mostly >.>) adults we know that we have the option to type out our fights if we have time or are feeling creative or PvP if we wanna just pinch one out (*snicker*). My only advice would be to just try it out. But the fact that this issue has met with so much friction in this thread has me wondering what the problem really is. PvP can be a choice, especially if there's a duel option. Luckily Ypshi P announced PvP won't be a big thing. There will be 2 (I think) zones dedicated to PvP, and arenas in every city for 1 v 1, 4 v 4 and 8 v 8. I hope there will be a duel command , but probably not. Until then you'll have to RP that the guards will kick you out of the city if you fight. *(correct as in there's always only one correct way to spec unless if you're a tank or healer. As DPS or as a Buffer, you are always expected, in groups, to have either top DPS [which is only one spec, there is never a comparable second spec] or certain buffs debuffs, which limit what you actually can spec anywhere else other than the basics. Healers must usually spec for certain buffs and absolute heal things, until they can start compensating for speccing for some DPS. Tanks...just have to survive and maintain aggro. Usually if you don't have top gear, you have to spec for both, and there's always only one way to do so but once you get higher tier gear, people care less as survivability comes a little easier, and aggro may be easier to manage, therefore what your gear has, you can slowly spec for DPS. Of which there is only one way to spec, usually.

Ohh...I'm retarded, sorry. Been a stupid day =P

where abouts did you switch to 720?

I looove my i7 <3 I noticed you have a 1000w PSU. That's needed if you plan to overkill, but I have a 800W Gold, SLI for 2 GTX560 ti's, 16G of Ram, a SSD, and a HDD, along with the ASUS P8Delux/Gen3 Mobo and the PSU does perfectly fine, and I think my PC stands....er...at a medium to high level above average (What brings me down is having a 1920x1080 TV -.-; ) ARR will be a lot better, but I think you'll definitely want to upgrade to, as has been mentioned, put you on modern ground. I would check out your score from the ARR Benchmark to see where you sit for the game, and even Beta. If there will be any population indicators on the servers, try out the most popular server and the least popular server. Getting a powerful Mid-range CPU will be important (the i5) but if you will be doing any other gaming I would suggest the i7. But heck, I would suggest two good graphics cards, too, but the cost is the problem >.<. So for now, get a high powered i5 and a great GPU. When ARR becomes SLI compatible, consider getting a second card to make it worth it. You don't need the best GPU's to do this, but a decent one to begin with will keep you golden.

The Final Countdown...to More Info February 19, 2013 Hello everyone! Pinurabi here, writing to report that the European media interviews have come to an end. Below is Yoshi-P with our indefatigable interpreter for the entire tour, SEE’s Saori Hill. http://rss.finalfantasyxiv.com/jp/blog/jp/JP20130219_2.jpg[/img] Yoshi-P is a man with a lot to say, and it’s no ordinary interpreter who can keep up with his endless stream. But keep up Saori did, across an eclectic range of subject matters. Hats off to her! Sustained by two cans of Red Bull and double that amount in coffee, Yoshi-P powered through the final day of the tour. Here’s a photo of the man lying prone and senseless, utterly spent of all info—info which will soon find its way to our fans. Brace yourselves for a veritable flood! http://rss.finalfantasyxiv.com/jp/blog/jp/JP20130219_1.jpg[/img] The media tour may have wound down, but our work here in London isn’t over just yet. There’s another meeting tomorrow morning before we fly back to Japan, and to our beloved development floor. Have at me, Japanese text! This is Pinurabi in London, signing off. See you all again on the other side! Pinurabi

This. I almost want to say that you should just skip that little tid-bit , but unfortunately it's unavoidable. Therefore, whatever you can say to boost the game rather than reedeem it (no really, guys, it's not that bad!)

Farridor continued to watch. He was certainly interested, though at the same time he was nervous as well. Knowing that his greatest 'threat' would be Siobhaine, he felt at some ease as she seemed more practical, more likely to teach than to severely beat or penetrate a sword (or fist) through his limbs. So there was a feeling of thankfulness, but at the same time he could not help but to worry slightly for his new acquaintance. Surely there will be a lot of pain in this match-- it was simple logic: They were mismatched. But is this what it's like out there in the real world? Regardless of what weapons that you have, is it possible that you could end up being so outclassed and alone? The thought was daunting. Frightening. This fight was a bad idea, and Farridor's presence was unneeded. The young Hyur debated whether or not to leave at this point, when finally the match started. --- "Foolish." The Roegadyn stated, but quietly, not wanting to distract either of the combatants with derogatory comments. Her attention flitted to Jasper, where he stood off to the side. Farridor nodded and stared up at the rather exotic woman next to him, Sio. If she thought this was foolish, then he was not alone in his assumptions. There has to be some other variable to this. He looked around, wondering if both of their reactions are just and he was met with compliance with everyone in the group, aside from Jasper's. He caught a glimpse of the young Hyur girl looking in his direction, but he immediately looked forward again. When he thought she wouldn't noticed, he looked back. She was cute, of course. It almost made him want to be paired with her, almost as if he could teach her a thing or two. He was out of luck with the magic, but perhaps she could teach him, as well. Farridor blushed at the thought and quickly looked forward once more. 'What am I thinking?', he considered to himself, 'I couldn't teach a training dummy to hold still, much less teach a peer anything worthwhile in this fighting ring... "Ah dunno 'bout this. How could he not get hurt?" Farri muttered

You're very welcome! A lot of these questions got me thinking, and I think for the more experienced with the community we have, it probably made them reconsider a few things as well. As you may have noticed, too, there's a lot of people here with their own opinions, so as you strive to use your best discretion, or follow these answers to a perfect T, you may have to realize that you won't be able to please everyone. As long as your new, people will actually guide you, not to change your character, but to really just drop hints to let you know when something is a bit....much. I don't mean to shroud this with a bunch of negativity, as I'm sure you'll do wonderful, but it's just a precaution to take I suppose, especially with these few past questions in mind. I certainly wouldn't worry about it though, and I wouldn't be offended if someone RP's there character to not like yours right off the bat, as that's probably who their character is...or they're having a bad day. Figured that's something to mention too, as it's something related >.>

Eva, you're completely right. I sorta took a bit much to the fact I had found that sword for my character a little too much, which I may have missed that point in my last post. The point should be, above all to use your discrescion. Then consider the actual use and relevance to RP it actually yields, stay away from exact game items and find ways to show that you earned such a weapon or piece of armor of notability that won't ruffle feathers with those who've also earned it. While I did not get to do as much RP as I would have liked in 1.0, so this is a frail example, but there's a NM that drops a bandit mask. I guess that's a pretty good example of a NM item, as it's named, but anyways, when I got it, I thought it'd be perfect for a Thief attire. For ME, since I had no RP build up of being a Thief yet (as it was more of an end result as Molt transitions through his life) and had no RP backstory anyone knew of, I was able to say, yeah that's just a slightly enchanted mask he inherited from his father. Just a run of the mill bandit mask with +Acc on it to help with vision and for..."dexteritous" purposes. As you go on, it may get a little more difficult, as if you find a weapon of some significance, you may want to consider whether or not you want that weapon to show off OOCly. This will make you want to incorporate it ICly, of course, but if you can't figure out a special reason to have it, you may be better off saying you made or found the weapon and while it looks neat it actually slices and dices too!

The actual conversation wouldn't be that all in-depth anyways. I'm sure Elementals are not gossiping. I'd imagine that those that can listen hear "Forest...angry..." Why is it angry? "Intruders..."/"poachers" Where? "Overthere..." The angrier ones sometimes don't even talk to or even attack the listeners so there's even less communicating, though someone who knows of the Elementals will be able to figure out that, yeah, their pissed, there's probably some kid burning a tree somewhere.. I'll agree, you have nothing to worry about, especially because you can't godmode with the actual theme and logical sense of communing with Elementals. But do understand it's a long road of training and people might be more inclined to believe you're full of it, rather than think you're abusing the actual power. So essentially, it has to show with your character.

23. When IC, can the guilds be referred to as "the lancer's guild" or should they only be known as their names(i.e. Wailing Barracks)? Or are both wordings okay? As Eva said, I'd consider this interchangeable, mainly because there is no two lancer guilds. There's only one, and it's located in Gridania and Gridania alone. If they ever add more than one, You could denote which city, or if you knew the names of the guilds, just reference that. The actual term " guild" certainly won't break immersion as they are a viable part of the lore and simply, that's just what they do! 24. Can npc quests ever be referenced to? I'd actually disagree slightly with Eva, but the mere fact that that disagreement exists gives proof that she's probably more right than me. What I was going to say is that I've never seen a small sidequest like that referenced in particular detail, so you needn't worry. However, what I have seen is references to what you had to do (gathering wolf fangs) for a purpose (for a friend/for someone in need-- especially easy to say since we're all adventurers!). The more I think about it, though, and considering Eva's post...I'd reference it vaguely. While chances are low that someone would reference that particular quest from that particular person, there's still the chance. And considering walking up to people and asking if they need help may not be an in-character thing to do, it may not even be something /to/ reference. But that's getting all technical. One point that clearly stands out to me is the spoiler mentioning from Eva, as that's absolutely true, though a true sidequest in the city won't have much of them. If you happen to explain which wolves and where you found them, I don't think a person could get mad at you for telling them a hint in character, but it's something to be mindful to. 25. A chocobo, a moogle, and a sylph are forming a party. Who's the tank, the dd, and the healer? When items are dropped from defeating a monster, would you RP them out such as skinning a beast for its fur? If you do RP dropped items, what about NMs that drop weapons, armor, crystals, or any other unique items? Are only certain items RPed out for how a character obtained them, or all are, or none are? Choco for tank, moogle for healer and Sylph for massive DD, though only if it's pissed. Otherwise moogle for DD and Sylph for healer... Often times, trash loot isn't RPed out, unless if it's something you were looking for or were to reference later (hunting for sheep furs!). Dropped gil and trash weapons are usually ignored, not only for their immersion breaking (was that sheep stabbing me with a bronze dagger? And dropped gil? Sheep bandit!), but SE doesn't have too much of that anyways. NM or special weapon drops is where I have a little beef. In EQ2, there was a new holiday event for Halloween. You had to form a two group raid to down a headlesshorsemanthing. When it premiered, it took a while before he actually was killed, and I happened to be in the second kill of the server and won Souleech--and there was even a server-wide discovery notice that was sent to everyone saying that I discovered it first. Boy, did I gloat it! I actually RP'd with it a little more than I should have, because I claimed that Molt was the only one with an item like it. I justified it by considering I'd not seen it on anyone else, and that it was REALLY difficult to get and the opportunity to get it was only for no more than two weeks, and after a while dedicated raid groups camped the mob for drops, which meant pick up raids couldn't form. All that, and knowing that RPers were generally lazy on end-game/raiding fronts, I felt I laid claim to it all on my own. NORMALLY...If it's a special item, particularly named, I would evaluate several things. Named monsters are...hard to RP, especially the loot from them. Since they're constant and they're easy access, more than likely, you can RP an encounter with them, but I can't imagine you can say you or your party killed it. Loot on the other hand...eh, It's hard to say that you got loot from a monster you bumped into, attacked and retreated from. So if you get a particular item, you can make up a story on how you found it. If it was a planned group outing, this is a little easier, especially in a dungeon setting, as treasure and dead bodies are plenty to take advantage of, though you have to be careful, as everyone else will also have access to said dungeon. If you make up a story about a weapon you have, you can either give it a name or just call it your lucky sword. I suppose that's easy too. Erm, this post is taking a long time to finish, sorry >.<. I guess the point is, strongly consider all aspects of the gear you're hoping to get from a specific area and flaunt. It's a bit challenging. BUT, consider, too that, like a lot of these questions you have, depend on if the actual RP comes up. I don't go asking people where they found their weapons, but it could lead into some interesting story telling. If, on the other hand, they make a note of it, or if it looks unique, then sure I might, but ehh...it really depends and relies on some good ol' judgement.

Farridor watched in what seemed to bean excited anticipation as the room fell silent, awaiting the one named Jasper to take the lead. Sio had moved closer to the young hyur and nearly gave him a nosebleed in excitement he could do little to contain his excitement. Instinctively he grabbed the sword at his side, as if to hold the reminder of her casual act of sincere kindness and looked her up and down, taking in any dent or scratch in her armor...and perhaps anywhere skin showed, as well. The red skin was exotic to him, and knowing that female Roegadyns were far and inbetween, especially around Gridania, she was just an interesting spectacle wrapped in a mysterious story, and Farridor wanted to know everything. "Okay, let's start with... Ken. Up you get. You get to fight Koh one-on-one first." Excellent, thought Farridor. We'll get to see what this training's all about. Practicing on dummies is one thing, but feeling the shake and rattle of a struck blade in your hand is something else entirely...wait...Koh...does he mean... Farridor snapped his attention forward. This couldn't end well, could it? Even if Ken was right about the calcium, it may just take two hacks to loose a limb, rather than one...At least the behemoth wasn't paired with himself, at least.

Interview with the Producer/Director February 16, 2013 Hello everyone! Pinurabi here, making my second media tour post from San Francisco, where the sun shines and information flows. This time I’d like to write about the interview sessions between Yoshi-P and members of the gaming media. As you might expect, the matters discussed varied between interviewers. Some were treated to a demonstration of the FATE system on Yoshi-P’s notebook. While others received a preview of the soon-to-be-released benchmark software. That score... It's over NINE THOUSAND! I should mention here that Yoshi-P is utterly unstoppable in interviews. The man talks about whatever the heck he wants—like a boss. The interviewer just needs the skillz to fish the info out of him. It may interest you to know that a lot of questions were about PvP—quite representative of our North American players' tastes. In the last picture we have the spiffy FFXIV: ARR USB memory cards prepared especially for our media guests. Each comes preloaded with a goodly amount of assets for use in articles and so forth. ...No, they're not for sale. And on that note, I shall go and pack my bags─I fear our short but memorable time in San Francisco has come to an end. Thank you for having us! Next stop: London! Pinurabi

I Left My Heart... February 14, 2013 Hello everyone! Pinurabi here, this time writing from sunny San Francisco, where the media tour has kicked off in fine fashion. No doubt you’ve already seen the photos posted by our hard-working community reps, but the venue has been lushly decorated to the theme of Gridania. The effect was so convincing, I half expected quest icons to pop up above the heads of my companions. Though no such icons appeared, I nonetheless received a slew of sidequests telling me to translate this, crosscheck that, make a dev blog post, and do a merry dance before sylphs. But I digress! Today we received the first group of media invitees, before whom Yoshi-P gave an impassioned presentation detailing what FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn promises to deliver. Below are some pictures to (almost) put you in the spectator’s seat. An up-close and personal meeting with members of the video gaming press. Trusty steeds thundering through the Black Shroud in one of the videos premiered. This Lalafell rider is about to attempt something rather brazen. Gadzooks! Is this one of those things you use to control a video game that totally isn’t a keyboard or a mouse!? That’s all for this post, but please look forward to more reports from the media tour in the days to come! Pinurabi

Gotta do Farridor. He's Siobhain's future apprentice. Something....something...something... DAHK SIDE. Oh shoot, now I /do/ have to make him...hmm...to the character concept board! My first FFXIV alt <3

Ooo! Do Farridor with a nosebleed =p Sio. If you do, I'll be obliged to actually make him, ha!

FROM LA WITH LOVE February 11, 2013 Hello everyone! Pinurabi here. As you will have guessed from the title of this post, I'm writing from sunny LA, far away from the ironfisted rule of Fernehalwes. What's that, you say? Wasn't I supposed to be locked up in a utility closet, under constant guard by tonberry turnkeys? Well, that's precisely what Fernehalwes thought until he discovered, to his woe, that someone had taken his place on the plane to LA. I am so smart! S-M-R-T! Who's King of the Blog now, you pompous ahriman!? But back to the present! Yoshi-P has embarked on a media tour, accompanied by a band of loyal retainers. Today we sat down with our comrades at Square Enix North America, and ironed out the finer details of the event. Here's a snapshot taken at one of our many meetings: Next is a photo of (some of) our North American and Japanese Community & Services team members. Such a photogenic bunch! Second from the left, Bayohne looks every bit the door-to-door salesman. Who’s your buddy, eh? After the first set of meetings had wound down, I went on a self-guided tour of the LA office, and— Duuude! Check out this radical A Realm Reborn elevator door art! We wants it for Square Enix headquarterses in Japanses! But alas, I must away—'tis time for yet another meeting! On the morrow we are off to San Francisco, our first leg on the media tour. We'll do our best to keep everyone posted on late-breaking developments via both the forums and the blog, so stay tuned! Pinurabi
