Farridor quickly fastened the new blade to his side. It was fairly light, in consideration with the person it was crafted for. For himself, it was on the heavy side, more than likely to be used with two hands until he grows stronger, if not a little bigger in general. Regardless, Farridor was awestruck, in a way, of the offer. When told he could keep it, he tried to refuse, though it was only a less than a few seconds before he was told to go inside and register. He double checked to ensure the blade was safe, despite not needing it, and picked up the scrap of his former weapon. Following the group, he stayed between Siobhain and Ken, and let them sign first. Receiving his shoulder pat from Ken, he smiled and signed his own name. It certainly wasn't pretty, as manuscript certainly was never a big aspect in his education, but tried to make big, bold letters to compromise. Satisfied with his work, he joined the rest of the group and sat down, glancing at Sio. He couldn't help but wonder if she was some special knight-- or even a Paladin! The stories she may have would be absolutely divine to listen to! Perhaps today wouldn't be so bad after all?

I thought SE slapped the $.58 out of your hand and said, "NOPE!"?

Nothing Thiefy about Pugs, other than...I guess the feel and some of the mentioning in the guild. I think it was pretty much meant to be a scout class in the traditional MMO sense, just...with hand to hand combat.

A bit of lore snippets for those who do not know.

Seeing some of this dialogue, it makes me wonder if I should form a committee of players who would be willing to type out (or copy/paste if it shows up in a log) every single quest, including dialogue, journal and any important motions in a cutscene and post it somewhere... Eorzepedia was a good wiki, but I found it lacking in several places. -
"I've a spare blade, lad, if you have need of it." Even while the Roegadyn spoke, she began to unfasten the buckle on her belt, raising the scabbard of the blade towards the stranger. The weapon it held was a fine one, possibly too dangerous for sparring and crafted light for her hand. She'd been considering dual-bladed practice so both blades she bore were light, one-handed pieces-- but her interest rested more deeply in learning how to handle her thrown weapons. Posted by Teveriel - Yesterday 11:27 PM Looking at the bundle of cloth, wood and the dull blade in his hands, Farridor gave a thoughtful gaze to the mess, listening to Ken's words. "Nah, Ah've heard stories of the Garleens and their gunblades an such", he shook his head, looking up to the Miqo'te, "I don' think tha's me, to be frank. No honor, yeh? Ahn, Ahm not so sure of lettin' my enemies so close if they out-arm me..." Considering most had already arrived and a few were sitting down, Farridor heard the footsteps of the Roegadyn approaching when all should have been still. Turning, however caused the Hyur's face to turn as red as the dye he clumsily attempted to use for his leather armor. When she spoke, and offered her blade to him, his face flushed further, anymore so and he'd have a nosebleed. "Ah...Ahh...", he stammered, taken aback but quickly try to rectify this by lowering his voice some, and puffing his chest out, "Ahm greatful, Lady Knight, ahn Ahm honored to use such ah beautiful, well-made blade!" Taking the sheathed blade, he poured over the details quite excruciatingly, even on the scabbard itself. He could tell the quality was much better in every facet than his father's shop could come close to replicating, though in Gridania only the commoners placed orders with their shop. The bigger and more militaristic orders went to the Blacksmithing guild directly.

Woot! More good work, Nel =)

The young male cleared his throat to speak, "Ahm Farridor. Uhm...Jasper, yeh? What if'n we don' have a weapon to fight with?" Farri shamefully brought the pieces of his beloved guisarme, the fruit of his labors this morning. In truth, he could have prepared a much better weapon, though between running late and trying to scavenge spare parts without being scolded, it was the best he could do. And it still failed him. "Ah...um...", he began while looking at the girl, "Eh's not mah fault it broke...s'not the weapon Ah chose, either...eh's jus'...ah..." He rambled off, blushing before the girl, especially knowing that the other men would soon make fun of him. Farri braced himself for the berating soon to come from either man, knowing at least he'd be safe knowing Ken already poked his fun about him...and said something about calcium...

every time I see those videos I think, "Oh, wow, look at all those spots I can RP at!" or "Eff it, I'mma hit my walk button and explore just walking everywhere!" Anyways, as much as I'd like thief to be the upcoming class, it's 100% going to be Archanist and 98% likely the other class will be Musketeer. I actually did not realize the latter would be available at launch, but I hope so, as it'll certainly keep all of us busy. Another thought that comes to mind is: "I'm gonna RP so hard when ARR is live..."

Best Day of the Week February 09, 2013 http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/blog Hello everyone! Fernehalwes taking a break from putting the final touches on the Beta Version localization to bring you a sneak peek at an atypical Saturday here at Square-Enix headquarters. Yesterday, Yoshi-P asked several members from the development team to come in on the weekend to help create a video that would be shown on his coming worldwide trip. Here’s a shot of our multi-talented producer in the control seat displaying his 1337 skillz (he made me write that…okay, maybe he didn't make me write that). I know it’s kind of hard to tell what is being filmed, but if you take a closer gander at the left-hand side of the pic, you’ll find something that may be of interest… And, to thank us for coming in on our day off, Yoshi-P dusted the cobwebs off the old wallet, and sprung for...wait for it...pizza! Which, knowing how much Japanese pizza costs, probably ran him about a half-month’s salary (okay, okay, that was another slight exaggeration…it was probably closer to three-weeks’ salary). Potato, corn, tuna, and mayonnaise. Mmm… My favorite! And by “favorite,” I mean “pass the pepperoni.” Oh, and here’s a shot of the lovable Komoto-san finishing off his sixth pie. All that devving can really work up an appetite! Talk to you all again soon...from the other side of the world! Fernehalwes

Farri shook his head, "Nah, flagon of ale or mead is wha--!!" but to no avail he was snatched up and almost literally drug over to the girl and Highlander, "N-nah is fine, Ahm sure they'll pair us, or s-somethin'!" Giving up the resistance, the Hyur gazed over to his fate. There the stoic barbarian stood, with a particular girl standing near him. "Is she /really/ tryin' tah talk to him?" he thought out loud to himself, but as they drew closer he realized they would be next. It looked as though the girl wasn't squished yet, so it could be safe enough. Or maybe the big man had a soft spot for girls? What if he said the wrong thing?? Would this be the end?? There was another particular person, a male by the looks of it within close proximity of the Highlander, suggesting he-too was dragged into the girl's acquaintance-making trap. The two men approached the other group. Quite a spectacle to see, if others were paying attention to what was going on, but in truth they looked as different as anyone else and blended in quite well. Bahamut's destruction really did a number on the continent, but it certainly pulled everyone closer together, no matter shape or class. Quickly, Farridor tried to hide his broken weapon, putting it behind his back as the two men took their final steps. The dye on his armor finally seemed to dry just enough to stop bleeding everywhere, though it did not mean it made his armor look better. Settling on his fate, he sighs again, and begins the formalities, "AH--erm...Hi there?"
-
"Me? Hm." Ken glanced around, taking in the rest of those gathered. His eyes narrowed as his gaze lingered on the girl and Highlander briefly. Rubbing his chin, he turned back to Farridor. "Heh. I just didn't have anything better to do," he said with a wry grin. "I lost my job and thought I could prove myself here. Maybe join the Adders myself, if they're paying." The Miqo'te cocked his head, eying the Hyur speculatively. "So, a blacksmith's apprentice. Well, you already know how to hammer things into submission. I'd say that's half the battle. Maybe learn a little finesse, and drink plenty of milk while you train." He nodded sagely. Farridor joined the Miqo'te in the view before grumbling at the words spoken to him. "Hrmph.. Ahm no kid, Ah don't need any milk..Ahm jus' trained ta do what I been told!" Farri said, begrudgingly. He shot a glance at Ken before looking back down at his weapon in his arms. Perhaps he was better off going home, he pondered as some of the less-dry dye seeped into the cloth of the shaft of the now defunct guisarme. Sighing an irritated, though disappointed breath, he changed the subject, looking over to the huge, taught beast of a man towering over most of those around him. "Ah hope they don' pair us off...Ah hate te be paired with that guy.." He pointed in the direction of the Highlander, already knowing some poor soul will be stuck face to face with Death incarnate.
-
Farridor looked up, meeting Ken's gaze only to look down at the mess and embarrassment he had created for himself. Frustrated, he hit the ground with a balled fist. "y-yea--" He began, but was soon cut off. By the time the young Hyur looked back up, the Miqo'te had already extended a hand to help. He bundled his broken weapon together and took the other male's hand, raising up. "Ken, yeh?. Er...Thanks. Farridor" The young man said, nodding slightly. He began to dust himself off. "I suppose a blacksmith's assistant shouldn't be enterin' 'n these things, but I jus' wanted to feel ah bit useful." He shook his head an grimaced. "I'mma wreck ah know, but was hopin' ah could join tha Adders if ah train enough!" Farridor looked over his new acquaintance in interest, "How 'bout you, eh? Seems like you're pretty straigh' yourself, though yeh look like yeh don' wanna be here."

Like it's been said before, I too am excited you're posting all these questions =). Overall it's just great to see so many new faces, returning faces and those that show true interest in at least trying or sticking around!

I love your style...when I get rich and famous in-game, I shall pay you in Gil for a commission.

A young Hyur, not a day older than 17 it would seem, starts to appear on the road to the area that would host the city-wide training day. Countless people began to appear, along with him. Different shapes of people in different clothing and even stranger weapons. A common trait, though, was the quality of the weapons and armor as most blades were worn and the armor was rusted. Farridor was no different. Well, he was among the lower teir of people who did not even have much armor on, save for the mages. He wore a leather tunic, basic in design, with sleeved pauldrons that extended to just above his elbows. On his forearms were your run of the mil gloved vambraces. His legs were covered in with padded leather leggings and laced boots. The thing that made his armor stand out, other than the worn, scuffed marks of time, was the red splotches covering the leather, as though he just got done strangling a Dodo, though he himself, a skinny, scraggly boy, would not look the part to do such an act. In his hand was a worn guisarme. The blade dull and rusting in some parts, looked like it was intimidating Eras ago, and the shaft itself was wrapped in some kind of cloth, either for support or to hide the quality the wood was likely to be in. Seeing the gathering ahead of him already forming, he took to running to ensure the last of a possible, decent place in line. Approaching the crowd, only a few yalms away, he tripped, and while trying to keep himself from face-planting, he both failed and broke the shaft of his pole-arm. He stayed face down for a while, debating whether he should get up or stay until the crowd leaves, and if he were to get up, he couldn't help but to ponder if leaving would be a suitable relief from his embarrassment. Eventually he succumbed, raising himself up to pick up his broken weapon, grumbling to himself.

I know this isn't the forums or Youtube, but I was thinking that, while we get informational tidbits every day while waiting for Beta and ARR, the daily aspect of the show is definitely appreciated for all of us who cling onto this information. For example, normally I wake up in the morning and immediately go to the forums for the Dev Tracker, JP translation, French Translation and German Translation threads. Throughout the day I'll check the Dev Tracker if I can, but especially at night. But there's some days I can't really do this, or I manage to miss something. For Beta, I'm sure Dev tidbits will lessen on certain subjects. Things will probably be "We initially did not consider that option, and thus have no intention putting that feature in right now, but if there's enough player feedback we will consider it!" Since the game at this point is so close to completion. When it comes to this, I would consider a weekly digest, unless if the Devs are a lot more responsive...or, if players manage to ask some interesting things that provoke a Dev response over the Course of Beta. The Launch of the game, I would think you could get away with doing daily shows again for some time, then ease into weekly digests once hype settles down. If a patch day or an emergency patch falls on an off day for broadcasting, you could do a "Good Morning Eorzea Special Report!" after the patch to list the new features or fixed bugs. So in hindsight, I would say....you can do daily shows until after launch and things settle down, at least that's my opinion, anyways ^^.

For a lot of these questions, especially the two last questions, you'll be able to tell with the group you're rolling with, as a lot of these questions will resolve themselves naturally. I would look at it considering what the purpose of the RP is for, and what the location is supposed to replicate-- like if your group went to a sanctioned off area that mobs aren't even supposed to be around, but had no choice to hold the event in a mob-infested area. Other times, there may be a gathering where mobs will occassionally wander in, aggressive or not, and a player will kill it as soon as it gets close, just to do it (often out of boredom or to help with the emmersion). In places where your group is supposed to be fighting together, I think often than not RP will be done when killing most things, unless if there are a lot of trash mobs and your group...ehh, for a lack of a better term, clears an area so that RP may actually resume without interruption. But you're spot on, I would just see what happens, but generally you'll get a feel for the RP that should be "included"/"skipped".

Err, yeah, that...I get that mixed up all the time >.<

Hmm...Chimera for FATE encounter...generic armor.... Generic mob I think...of the Succubi, but could actually be a boss, since it doesn't match the concept art. Interesting particle effects. And incontestable proof the Dev Team are pervs! Though...she is cute...

Absolutely this all these answers. You have a lot of creative control with a Bard (in any game), which is fitting for such a creative class. What's not creative is the negligence most devs in any MMO will give to the class, but RPers can easily make up for that. I would agree that there would be a lot of songs past down from Eorzea and even Hydaelyn, and while it's the Bards duty to keep those songs alive, it's also their duty to come up with new songs or epics that either describe their own journey, someone else's journey, or or heroic (or evil) acts done by someone. And as Xenedra mentions RL music as well, that's all the more perfect. I consider all music (well...most of it >.>) fair game and is a tool that can unite all of us players, even if it's a RL reference. You can have a lot of fun with this. In EQ2 I had a mute Bard concept I never got to play, for example. You could be a Bard that lost her muse. You could be a Bard who can't help but tap into the aether any time she sings, or even hums! Or, you could just have your run of the mill Bard that travels the land and creates songs or stories from what she sees. It's all up to you =)

Let's see...this subject isn't too eventful, though it provides valuable insight into the life of an every day Eorzean. Well, for that time, at least. Subject Moltove appears to have just left a marriage by the year 1571, leaving behind a rather normal life that had all but ended in perfection. Two years before this, his child was born though various arguments leading up to a year later seem to have dissolved the marriage. It is unknown what had become of it, though all we know is that the following time, from 1571 and on, there have been cross reports of tabs and bills under Moltove, mainly in Ul'Dahs various taverns. Witness reports have corresponding testimonies in various mediums describing this subject at a loss as both his wife and daughter had disappeared at that time, concluding the source of his sorrows (and frequent intoxicating wallows), and the end of the marriage, as thus. Both female subjects have yet to show up to the annals of the Grand Library. It seems that Moltove had continued this for some time, remaining unproductive through a large span. Surprisingly, he managed to hold his job at Frondale's Phrontistery even when this chasm in his life took place. Even with spending his evenings drinking his life away, he seemed to excel at the Phrontistery, ranking...ah, let's see..not quite to a doctor's status, but it is estimated he became a doctor's assistant. This doctor is yet another subject recorded elsewhere, though sources indicate he was but a number in the casualty of the Calamity. Both the subject and the doctor have had recurring visits to the taverns across Ul'Dah, around similar time frames, so it is considered that they were close. They had to be, as both of their careers depended on each other. The assistant created the medicine that the doctors had to use to cure patients. It has been noted in other places that the assistants also had to take shifts to recover the materials for the entire Phrontistery, as well. To know that this subject persevered through his troubles to maintain his career and that of his superiors is enlightening, to say the least, but by the end of the Sixth Astral Era, Moltove had shown signs of an accomplished Alchemist and Botanist. Otherwise he was inactive in the economic and social spheres. Around 1572, Moltove had begun to be more productive. He seemed to begin some kind of training, outside of his barbaric brawling, that allowed him to catch the attention of an unknown organization. This organization is largely unknown and seems to have since perished. Any insights to the group are garbled messages, as any notes or even symbols don't seem to make sense and do not match any language known on Hydaelyn. At this time, there's evidence to show that Moltove had picked up to using the pole-arm as a weapon, with a bow (with previous experience in his childhood). His training was mostly solitary, though it sometimes coincided with the mysterious group. It was only a few moons before this mysterious group dissipated from existence, leaving little trace other than jumbled letters and gibberish manuscript. Molt seemed to have continued his training, despite this. Not long before the Calamity, Subject Moltove had left his position at the Phrontistery. The reasons are unknown, though there have been various reports through the taverns in Ul'Dah matching Moltove's description, stating that there was an odd figure in a robe and half-mask, akin to the Twelveswood's woodsin purging masks. In a place like Gridania, this would cause no alarm, though the figure was sighted with daggers rather than a pole arm or bow. And that is all we know for this period. There was no sighting of this subject on the day of the Calamity, his name was on no roster for the Grand Companies, nor recent airship travels...just...nothing. It is, of course after the Calamity of the Red Moon, that things began to get interesting for this subject...

So, while we still have no clue what mark/item on our character will get for being Legacy (other than the Chocobo), I was wondering how people were going to RP it. Especially since the game lore by default dictates that all player characters went and teleported. Would this mean that the mark/item is only to those who teleported in RP terms? The only flaw in this is that would logically mean, as new players teleported too, they get the legacy item which, is false. x =/= x. How would SE put the Legacy mark/item in lore? Would they at all? Probably not. There might be flavor text on the mark (a buff, at least) or item. So how would you RP it, assuming it fits enough with your character? You got it from teleporting? You got it for being a survivor? Or did you find it while spelunking in a near-by dungeon? For the last, you would have to be careful, since other RPers (and regular players) will have it, but that doesn't mean you can't be creative and RP it to be a different mark or item. More importantly, what do you think this thing will be??

New MMO Roleplay community - Building bridges
Moltove replied to The Shield's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
If you consider Everquest 2 current enough, http://www.raven-mythic.com/phpbb3/index.php contains the biggesst RP community for the game. I was never really sure about any other MMO =/ Nice to see some people coming together to create a nexus of RPers! -
