What they said is true, though. The majority is just that, the majority; they do not have worry about discrimination, certainly not to the extent an honest-to-god minority does. That's not to say that someone cannot be discriminated against if they happen to be straight, white and male, as that would ignore issues such as classism in its entirety. However, it'd still be ultimately incomparable to the likes LGBT people face on a daily basis and that is where the difference lies. This is why we deserve safe spaces free from any potential discrimination. Someone in the majority will never, ever fully comprehend the effect intolerance has on the minority psyche. They just won't and honestly, I'm glad you don't have to put up with it. I'm even envious in a way. That we have people in this thread willfully ignoring examples of legitimate hate within our community should serve as the ultimate testament to having our needs fulfilled, irregardless if some are unwilling to admit to their socially-born privilege.

About time. Now maybe we can start working on trans rights so hopefully I'm actually considered a human being within some period of my limited life span. p.s. who wants to marry me?
-
I have two Au Ra ladies that'd be willing to nurse Khujin back to health if you'd be interested. :3

Seeing this thread reminds me that Foxglove's childhood fantasy was to fall in love with a Doman princess. Even gives me hope that maybe one day it'll actually come true for her, heh. I say go for it. You have more than enough information to create a plausible character of reasonable nobility from the likes of Doma. It's just Eorzea's equivalent of period Japan; if you can't build off of something with that rich of a history, then the problem lies elsewhere, methinks.

First paragraph: yeah, sure, 110% agree. Second, though: not everyone interested in romance is looking for a quick fuck. I'd even wager that very few are. Can we please stop with this silly stigma? It makes kittens cry. The thing is, in Eorzea, no one cares if you're gay. It's a sexually liberated society outside of some Ishgardian headcanons. Experiences outside of gender identity are likely to be non-existent because there isn't any issue to begin with. Now if your character falls under the T, I can definitely understand that, though sadly they are a rarity and even fewer actually understand what being transgender is like in the first place, much to my personal chagrin. Actually... yes, I do. Sapphism is kind of my thing because a. we have enough good stories about men as-is and b. it's my comfort zone, what I identify most with. Interestingly enough, a good chunk of female characters in the FFXIV RP community are straight. It's legitimately difficult to find a decent date on any given day. Not even joking; it's truly an anomaly of modern roleplay.

Well what do you expect? The LGB parts of LGBT are focused on sexual attraction. It's only natural that it ends up a focus for these characters.

Curious about RP regarding entering Ishgard
Gone. replied to Niteshade_Rune's topic in RP Discussion
Yep. Lots of adventuring outsider NPCs and plenty of quest dialog that acknowledges as such. -
I won't name names per rules, but I do recall a number of members in an FC that took major issue with a friend of mine and the lesbian relationship her character had with one of mine. Also a number of my FFXIV companions were only found only due to my open, welcoming nature when it comes to LGBT folks. Not everyone is accepting; sad, yet ultimately true. I can very much understand why someone would still be worried no matter how much the surface level of our community says otherwise.

There is no Au Ra listing on the wiki
Gone. replied to Flickering Ember's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
No Doma, either, for what its worth. Probably a good time to get around to adding the proper pages and redirects for these now that the expansion is out and about. -
One good thing about Final Fantasy XIV is the linkshell system, allowing you to join a number of niche groups without having to, say, drop your favorite FC. Honestly, I'd like to say that roleplayers these days tend to be LGBT-inclusive, but unfortunately, it is not always the case. Most of the time, sure, but it never hurts to do a bit of research first before you end up with the wrong sorts of people.

If you'd be willing to give me another chance, I'd be interested in entertaining either of these ladies.

balmung A Flower of Carnage: Vetiver Reborn
Gone. replied to Gone.'s topic in Chronicled Connections
So pretty Nebb Nebbs~ if only that still happened to be accurate to her current appearance. Or rather, what she looked like before coming to Eorzea... Believe it or not, I had actually considered going Au Ra back when I reenvisioned her, but waited until I could test it out in-game to see if it'd suit her personality. Well, sure enough, it couldn't be any more of a perfect fit. Wiki has been updated to reflect this change, of course. :3 Also no need to worry; she's the same character as when I made this thread, just without a fancy enchantment to hide behind from here on out. Have my interests in RP changed? No, but I'm going to be a bit more forward this time around despite the potential scorn I'm likely to receive for admitting it: I am primarily looking for close, intimate relationships with female characters only. Vetiver and I are most comfortable around women and I consider my writing skills at their strongest when mentally focused on female-centric storytelling. Sorry boys! Just the way things are. A potential love interest for my broken hearted dragonlady is also high on my wishlist; lovey romance stuff is kind of my thing and I miss RPing it terribly. I really, really do. Think that's about it. As always, I can be found in-game, on the RPC or Skype. Hope to hear something soon? -
The Great Crash of '15 - Gripes and Rants Are Going Heavensward

Spoiler alert: error 2002 ;~; -
*blinks profusely, takes off glasses, does another take* I know I said you're welcome to draw her at any time, but I didn't think you'd actually do it days later for free. *blushes* Thank you so much. It's beautiful and Vetiver retains her librarian look despite the hyper-stylized aesthetic. I definitely owe you one now.
-
You will, unfortunately, receive 'some shit' for bending and filling in the grey areas. On the positive, the negativity tends to stick to the RPC. I've yet to see it actually make its way game-side. Ultimately, play the character you want! You're here to tell your story, not appease others outside of your circle.

Okay, just got back in after canceling the busted queue and selecting Vetiver again. *wipes brow* -

Anyone else getting stuck on arbitrary queue numbers? So far I've seen 1, 84 and 229. -
I'd say there's a sizable chunk of the community that falls under the adopted Miqo'te crowd; considering the amount of war and subsequent death in the game world, it's completely plausible from every angle. Same goes for any multi-racial family, really. As far as playing an outsider goes, the only place we have any real detail on outside of Eorzea is Othard, though most specifically Doma due to the related quests in the main storyline. Domans are a safe bet when it comes to this as anyone who paid attention to in-game dialog and has a decent understanding of old world Japanese culture can easily bullshit their way through the grey areas. Foreigners from elsewhere are another story and though I'm willing to accept it if the person in question builds enough plausibility for me, I can't say I'd recommend going this route. You might as well be writing on your own at that point.

What amazes me more than the lobby server errors is how many people are somehow making that many levels so fast. Forever behind. ;~; -
Glad to know Vetiver Kaji and Foxglove Kyo will blend right in without having to change a thing. :3 I just can't let go of my traditional flower/herb/spice forename + actor surname, not when I've rolled with it for the past several years.
-
Heh, I perfectly guessed both naming heritages in the end. I feel all sorts of special now. :3
-
I accidentally did a thing about a month ago: Kind of fell in love and... yeah. Vetiver is going to get scaly in a couple more days.
