Eleni is the real sweetheart. I wish I could be even half the cuddly marshmallow she is. ;~; -
Compliments Galore! Compliment The Poster Above You!
Gone. replied to Y'lani's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Kellach is probably one of the most relaxed, light-hearted folks I know of in the community; always brightens the mood. -
balmung Newcomer to Eorzea in Need of friends!

My beloved Foxglove is a former Garlean officer. Not always the most accessible character, but maybe they'd have things to talk about? -
Hyper, cheerful, and over energetic Miqo'te LF more contacts!
Gone. replied to RiniKett's topic in Chronicled Connections
We never did get around to RPing together... -
Well, no, but in a room with 2-3 dozen random IC roleplayers, I need more than 'walk-ups welcome' to pique my interest. I don't have the time or desire to waste time on characters who will have zero chemistry with mine; sure I'm not the only one, either.
-
Been an advocate of this for a long time. I can't exactly read a character's mind, you know?
-
Domans essentially practice Shinto, which yes, means they hold a great regard for spirits, particularly of the ancestral and/or worldly variety. I based Vetiver's character heavily around this concept, actually.

Eorzean Aetheists and The Believability of Such Characters
Gone. replied to Dat Oni's topic in FFXIV Discussion
There is a part towards the end of Heavensward where Midgardsormr mentions... well: Such knowledge would likely be unheard of amongst the common man, though. -
For my two Raen, I place all of their Doman musings in brackets like a film script with some additional emotive dialog to note that they're speaking in their native language. Classiest way to go about it imo.
-
Your resident Doman healer here. :3 For Vetiver, I basically roleplay her as a shrine maiden of sorts; various tasks included medicine, funerary rights and the quelling of unruly ancestral spirits. She comes from a matriarchal line of healers with a family shrine and in her words: "What you call 'conjury' runs in my very blood." This is how I worked in her master-level conjury. I found it quite easy to piece together knowing that Doma is basically a fantasy version of feudal Japan with a religion akin to Shinto. The most lore stringent of folks might not go for it since it's grey area and all, but through the interactions I've had on Vetiver (of which amounts to a good few dozen differing characters), I've yet to run into anyone that hasn't found her background plausible. Hope that helps you come up with something for your Raen!

Honestly I'd much prefer a small blurb about the character in question and/or a wiki link than the usual note about how walk-ups are supposedly encouraged. With so many roleplayers about, every little bit of incentive matters; I definitely don't have the time or willpower to poke everyone I see, just the ones that pique my interests in some way.

balmung A Flower of Carnage: Vetiver Reborn
Gone. replied to Gone.'s topic in Chronicled Connections
Bumping up. Vetiver is still pretty sad and alone at the moment and it's starting to bring me down in the process. :c -
Nhiiiiiiaaaaa. You should join Vetiver on her adventures! Well, so long as your moon kitty doesn't mind the inevitable snuggles. :3c

And then you [see: not you personally] wonder why people stop talking to you. Seriously. NOT this. The attitude of "I do what I want" is one of the most selfish and off-putting ones in any role-play community. If you're not going to respect Square Enix's creation then don't expect any in return. He has a point, though; the type of person Edgar refers to is never going to give an IC white mage the legitimate chance they deserve. Why waste one's time attempting to appease the unappeasable? It's an exercise in futility.
-
Yes, white magic is technically 'forbidden', however if you're playing a white mage ICly, it's likely you're not going to be announcing it the world for obvious reasons. Rather it's lore-breaking to play largely depends on how much stock you put into the elemental bogeyman. Frankly I find the subtext implies that they're not as powerful as they're made out to be, certainly not at this point in time. As for the quest dialog, while it is made clear that your opportunity is a rare one, it's also implied that other exceptions exist, so *shrug*. Personally I just say go for it if it's what you want out of your character. Sure, a handful of people from the RPC will shun you as if it were a matter of life or death, but they're not the type you'd want to roleplay with in the first place. In-game? No one seems to care, at least they never did back when I had a white mage.

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Gone. replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
It really concerning to hear examples of this, the odd individual can have a bad day but when a group of otherwise respected RPers do this we all loose. Not to mention the poor RPers subjected to this kind of harassment. There is no place for this kind of behaviour in our community. - Signed! Also signed. What happened this morning did an absolute disservice to our community and those that instigated it should be downright ashamed for what was nothing more than glorified bullying. -
balmung ISO Prostitutes for story (Male & Female)
Gone. replied to Miakoda's topic in Chronicled Connections
Would assume the latter. -
Currently play two Raen Au Ras, but I've played a Keeper and Midlander Hyurs, as well.
-
Don't have many, but these would be the major ones that I tend not to always share opinions on: Dropping sensitive subject matter (i.e. rape, abuse, mutilation, torture, bigotry, etc.) without fair warning and consent. Expecting my characters to always be happy and affectionate with open arms, especially during situations where that is exceedingly unlikely to happen. Writing someone into a corner; always give your partner a decent way out. To not do so is incredibly unfair and counterproductive to cooperative storytelling. What if it's to build proper subtext?
-
Wouldn't mind meeting Mimiko. Patient enough to deal with the inevitable baby aggro, as well. :3

Who says someone like me doesn't want it to be 'organic'? I just simply want to know if a potential RP partner may or may not be open to the idea beforehand; there's a stigma towards romance in RP these days as noted by the posts you refer to and if it saves both sides from disappointment, embarrassment and wasted time, then by all means I'm going that route. Hey, it never stopped people from RPing with me despite my supposedly 'infamous' yet ultimately false reputation as an ERP-crazed, lore breaking SJW and I've no reason to believe Vachir would go out of his way to lie about such a thing from what I've seen. *shrug* Tbh I wish my dissenters were bold enough to actually say things to my face in such an open manner.
-
I don't really see the harm in calling someone out for being openly homophobic, though; we should not have to tolerate intolerance, especially when it negatively affects a good portion of our community. Then again, I also disagree with the previous assessment that the RPC should not be a safe haven, so take that as you will.
-
Is it really a strawman if you, the original poster, just won't admit that it's what you implied? It may not have been your intention, but that's very much how it came off. Now if you must know why I tend to make my LGBT friendliness open (though I do not have it mentioned in my player search as there just isn't enough room), there are two reasons: 1. So people dealing with similar issues can feel safe knowing that I will neither judge them or their characters for sexual orientation or gender identity. 2. Because I get tired of having a number of male characters making not-so-vague attempts at straightening Vetiver or Foxglove's gay away when they will never, ever have a chance to begin with. It's a waste of my time and frankly demeaning, especially when I am actively seeking RP partners willing to provide companionship on a number of levels. So yes, just because it's useless to you doesn't mean it isn't to me or someone else. Speak for yourself and not others, yes?
