  1. But I love having so many cuddly catgirls to potentially snuggle with.
  2. Just because places of learning aren't frequently shown in-game doesn't necessarily mean they don't exist; they're just unimportant on a mechanical level outside of the class guilds and thus no development time was spared on it just for the sake of minor immersion. Final Fantasy XIV may be the most RP-friendly MMO I've ever played, but some things are still on the onus of our imaginations to fill in. This would be one of those times. Heh, I drag pretty much all my RP partners out into the game world, but given the expansiveness it's rare for us to bump into anyone else outside of the odd silent on-looker or two.
  3. Zarek bumped into me in-game and stopped to chat for a bit. Such a nice boy~ :3
  4. I'm actually more than willing to have my characters be severely wounded so long as a. they don't lose a limb/eye/etc. and b. don't die. Everything else is fair game around these parts. Lot of my friends RP the Hand/Land jobs. I know Foxberry's C'sien is an IC alchemist; Vetiver has met her buried deep into brewing potions before.
  5. This is actually how I play my disguises. A sensation of scales can still be felt and neither of my characters smell quite like a Hyur would, at least to those with a strong nose like the Miqo'te. Not infallible, but good enough to fool most anyone until the time is right. I just happen to call it a 'glamour' OOC because, well, I can't think of anything better that comes close in-game outside of Sylph magic and the like. Then keep to yourself and don't RP with them if it bothers you that much. Of course I think your idea of what is or isn't plausible is overly conservative, but hey, if that's how you feel then that's how you feel. Just don't drag the rest of us down in the process, yeah?
  6. Life is only short in Eorzea if one lacks the common sense to survive. The number of hamlets and/or outposts scattered out in the game world seem to counter the very idea of a so-called ruthless environment, at least until one reaches the outskirts of a region. I'm also skeptical on the lack of literacy, as well; the number of books used as decoration in the game world is pretty staggering. The poor and homeless I can understand, but the average player character? I doubt it. Honestly, the only thing I'd like to see is people being more welcoming towards each other. Even with the moderate racial tensions, Eorzeans seem to get along with each other better than the RPC user base does.
  7. Who said anything about someone waking up to a new body unexpectedly? I don't know of anyone rolling Au Ra in Heavensward that hasn't had things planned for months now, if not created and/or reinvisioned a character specifically for it. That is by all means insignificant, especially when Yugiri's reveal was more or less "Oh, okay." Also keep in mind that our roleplayed PCs are still a minority. We're not talking every NPC having access to illusionary magic and the like, so why act like it's common when it's not? And no, plenty of people have been up-front about it. That people are still surprised two days away from early access is honestly baffling. Just because it isn't important to you doesn't mean it isn't important to them. Had Au Ra been here from the beginning, I'm about 99% sure I'd have rolled one to begin with. I bet most people will tell you the same thing. Ultimately it's a personal choice that no one should be harassed or shunned for and I honestly can't believe our community is still making a big deal out if this; it isn't and will never be so please, move on.
  8. For Vetiver, it's simply Doman spellcraft she brought along with her. In Foxglove's case, it's a magitek ring she 'borrowed' on her departure from the Garleans. I say just go with what's most plausible for the character. No reason to wrack your brain on it because it's very insignificant in the grand scheme of things. It's either that or we say they've always been here which comes with, way, way more problems and chaos.
  9. Bleh, so many things locked behind housing and FCs. :\ Oh well. At least poetics will be easy to get now.
  10. Eleni is a real sweetheart. Always stops to say hi and give a /hug in-game if I happen to be online in the wee hours of the morning.
  11. Stare at my Au Ra ladies. Explore what I can of Ishgard. RP. Think that covers it all.
  12. Eorzea is a modern civilization, though; there's plumbing, some form of centralized power likely via aether manipulation (because let's be honest, I sincerely doubt the likes of Ul'dah has a candle maiden relighting the city in the wee hours of the morning), all forms of various mechanical contraptions from fold-out composite longbows to massive airships and that's without even stepping into magitek territory. Bottom line: fantasy does not necessarily mean 'dark ages'. If we want to talk a subject like age of consent, it has to be done from a more recent perspective. Sixteen would be the figure I'd go with as it's a fairly reasonable average imo. It's bound to vary from person-to-person, though, simply due to the vast array of cultural backgrounds the player based is formed from. Where on Earth did this information come from? O_o To my understanding the age at which Padjal cease to physically age varies from child to child, hence why we have the older Kan-E-Senna versus, say, her younger siblings.
  13. Ugh, the seating glitch drives me insane. I always feel bad asking people to /sit again.
  14. I actually adore Hermit's Hovel; it's a quaint place, perfect for scenarios that involve mending and solitude. Reminds me a lot of a certain drunkard's home in Come Drink With Me, actually, which serves as my main reason for viewing it as such. As for the Bronze Lake Springs... well, I'll be the first to admit I've had my share of scandalous encounters there. I can't blame anyone for it, really, not when it's such a lovely location to begin with, full of little private nooks and crannies. Also the hidden Miqo'te girls that kind of 'set the scene' (at least if your PC is female, anyway). Never saw anyone that didn't keep things in party chat, though. On the Quicksand: it is what it is. Occasionally you'll find a gem, but most of the time it's a lot of idling and throwaway RP. If I'm there, it's usually just to people-watch while I'm sitting in queue to farm glamours. Willing to drop if I find the right person, of course, but that's only when all the stars and planets align. Now, when it comes to RP 'etiquette', I'm a strong believer in one simple motto: Don't be an asshole. Be friendly, kind and perceptive to those around you. Don't aim for questionable and/or sensitive subject matter with someone new and untested; save it for people that are mutually comfortable with it. Don't play a crass jackass without fair warning, either, otherwise expect rejection nine times out of ten and for good reason. Other things to take note of: ask questions. Send /tells. Link us to more than [RP] Walk-ups, etc. in your player search. Give people a reason to approach you! They can't read your character's mind, nor should they have to. Roleplayers are a dime a dozen on this server. They honestly are. You have to make an effort to stand out somehow, yet still keep it within reason. Easier said than done, I know, but it's very much possible. Roleplaying is give and take; that's what it all comes down to. You can only expect to get back what you put in and little more. It's been like that for as long as I can remember and I don't expect it to change any time soon, if ever.
  15. Magically-inclined adventurer that can enjoy a good drink or two? Consider me interested.
  16. If you want me to be honest (and not quoting anyone in particular because I'm so burnt out by this point that I don't even care anymore), then I will: I think racism is a subject that cannot be trusted with 99% of roleplayers to handle with any sort of tact or respect for those around them. Like sexism, homophobia and transphobia, it should not be touched. Just don't. RP is personal rather people want to deny it or not and these are the type of subjects that hit at an OOC level. They really, really do. Trust me on that. I believe that the emotional well-being of those around you trumps your RP desires any day of the week. If you want to play those scenarios out, then do so in your private circle, not public where feelings can and will be hurt. And let's be honest: it's been made very clear that OOC feelings will be driving IC Au Ra hate elsewhere. Just take a peek in any thread relating to them; it's quite damning.
  17. Much of 1.0 was officially retconned and dusted up under the rug. If it is not mention in 2.0, it's not of importance. If it does get mentioned, then sure, I'll change my mind, but until that point, it's an exercise in futility and expecting the community to know about it, much less actually give any thought or regard to matter, is frankly absurd. We can't play 1.0 anymore and SQX doesn't want us to remember it; there IS a reason 2.0 is so seamless in its presentation and this would be why. That's why the PC holds up their soul crystal every time they learn a new skill, right? I mean, it happens every five levels regardless of which job you're playing as. Please, show us where in-game with some screenshots. Once again, give us proof. I don't recall it at all and I've always paid a great deal of attention to job quests. I don't even play a white mage anymore, so why are you turning this on me? And really? 'Dear'? Could you be any more flagrantly condescending? You can disagree if you want, but please do us all a favor and bring something other than hearsay. Show me in the game where it's referred to, otherwise you're just arguing for the sake. Truth is, I don't want to RP with you, Liadan, Nako, etc. I find your collective approach to RP stifling, restrictive, patronizing and counter-intuitive to the experience at a base level and I will not tolerate anyone bullying a new player away from playing a classic Final Fantasy job that's been there from the very first game, not when there's a number of legitimate possibilities that make it plausible. Heaven forbid we welcome people with open arms as opposed to shunning them for something completely and utterly inane. Treat people as we'd like to be treated, etc. Is that really so hard to understand?
  18. My point, that as always, is completely and utterly ignored. I really don't care who writes what or who works for who, the bottom line is Tumblr is not a valid source for any information unless it is the absolute official blog for the related subject. This isn't going to stop people from RPing out fantasias. Honestly all I can do at this point is be brash and say 'deal with it', because nothing is going to change and frankly, outside of an amount of people I can count on my hands, no one cares.
  19. So basically angry fairies in 1.0. Not sure what that has to do with 2.0, though, nor is it really fair to throw that down as law of the land when most of us never played it and no longer can. Very few things were carried over far as I can tell. Job lore did not seem to be amongst those. Also keep in mind, the only time we see elementals doing much of anything in 2.0 is when they're on our side. A foreigner. This does not paint a very threatening picture, especially when all they could muster up is a handful of critters to fight. The PC does most of the work, really.
  20. I often wonder how much of this is really just glorified fear mongering. Succor, green wrath, etc. all come off as very man-made concepts to scare the Gridanian populace into an ideal scope of morality. But, you know, roleplaying sandbox with Swiss cheese lore. We can theory craft in circles for hours but at the end of the day, it's all down to personal headcanons. If the whole community were to go off solely by what the game gives us at face value (which is, by all means, not a lot to work with), it'd make for a very, very boring experience indeed. Would make for some well-placed irony, though...
  21. Not true. If a character can learn the spells either by the teachings of another or from knowledge stored within a soul crystal, they can perform white magic. It has nothing to do with the so-called 'blessing' of the elementals which to my knowledge has never, ever been mentioned in-game. Literally all the elementals did was bury the ruins of Amdapor in the forest. Even Raya-O-Senna tells you that much: Bottom line: you can play a white mage. Can we please stop policing RP now?
  22. Localization should not and does not have creative input on a video game whatsoever. It's the equivalent to asking someone in accounting for an opinion on a movie's theme over the director or scriptwriter. Simply put, it's irrelevant. Their job is to translate things and nothing more. Honestly, the real insult is thinking someone 'down the hall' has a real say on the matter, especially when it's not revealed in any official manner. Someone's personal blog is not a legitimate source rather you agree or not.
  23. That's.. a very disturbing precedent to set and follow, let alone glorify. They're obviously intelligent enough to go beyond animal instinct. What else are we supposed to apply to it?
  24. Which puts elementals in the moral wrong, really. I'm pretty sure a lot of innocent people drowned that day. You're basically restating what I already pointed out, but okay...
