  1. The title of Nunh is indeed just for the males of a full tribe that are allowed to breed. If you've denounced the tribal life altogether, then the Tia/Nunh dichotomy doesn't really exist for you. So, there shouldn't be any need to change the name unless you're either starting up a new branch of the tribe or you're continuing to distance yourself from the tribal life by taking a new last name... perhaps one to share with your spouse. Basically, you're just fine leaving it as Tia.
  2. ... Not gonna lie, the person that queues up and then forces us to rush due to their poor time management is a personal... "favorite." Along with the ones who queue up and then immediately bail because a FATE popped or something. Or just bailing because the roulette you picked gave you a dungeon you don't like - those people who immediately drop from Trial of the Steps, Toto-Rak, or Aurum Vale, I'm looking at you. I think it's just a general ire of "don't queue for something you aren't willing to commit to." Though, I can't act like I'm above all that. I've done it a bit myself, but it was mainly just Mentor roulette because of synced Ramuh EX and the like. And when they required the Warring Triad EXes be cleared and included those on there... yeaaaaah... I haven't bothered re-unlocking Mentor roulette. Anyway, getting to another irk of mine that got brought up recently: rezzers/supportive players that don't get their props. It's a bit of an ego thing, to be sure... but if I, as a Red Mage turn a raid from a wipe into a victory by rezzing both healers and one of the tanks... would it kill you to throw a commend my way? Even better when I'm using that one role action that hands off MP to the healer so they can get back in the fight and spend the rest of the attempt basically running on empty. I think people either just insta-lock commend either one of the tanks or healers, or just don't commend at all. So it just seems like it sends a bad message when you do damage control like that and don't even get a "thanks" in party chat. I mean, I understand if you think it's something that should expected, but would it kill to be a little polite about it? Maybe there's a reason SMNs and RDMs don't seem to use their in-combat rezzes in roulettes. That kindness has been abused and assumed to the point that people just don't bother anymore.
  3. ... This one actually got me to stop and think. It's been a long time since I've seen a lot of Disney movies, and there's quite a few that I haven't seen as well. So I'm running mostly off memory and the short blurbs found in the wiki list of Disney characters. Gogon, my initial thought was Ursula back when he was much more conniving and, well... villain-ish. Kaa from the Jungle Book, maybe? Though, fanciful answer considering his relationship with An... Beast might also be a good fit. Joke answer: Grumpy from the Seven Dwarves. Chachan might be... Chicken Little? Really, any of the friendly and somewhat childlike characters would work for him. Kronk crossed my mind for a moment, too, and Sapphire tossed out Herc as a potential match as well. Similar joke answer: Dopey. Judge makes me think of the Queen of Hearts just because of the court scene and all that. Oh! Or King Triton. King Triton might be good.
  4. If it helps, the Yanxian gear is literally just the old Yasha tome gear from relatively early on in Heavensward. Which you can still get (and upgrade into the dyeable Asuran items) using Centurio Seals or whatever they're called at the tavern in Ishgard. That includes SAM and RDM weapons, in case you like the Yanxian ones but want them in a different color.
  5. ... It means it in a medical term, yes; or, at least from the definitions there. Introducing a culture to build up an immunity. Like how you get your shots that are actually, like, small or dead cultures of a disease to help your body prepare to combat it. I've never seen it used in the terms of language usage, though. Wouldn't that be, like... using bits of slang so that you're not thrown off by those darn kids who use all the slang? :dazed: More on point for the topic, though, I don't see being a bit repetitive as being bad. At worst, you or your friend poke light fun at using a word over and over again and you move on. I feel that trying to be too eclectic in your word choice sometimes just makes things all the more confusing and require far more work. Sometimes speaking simply is best. You can enunciate and dictate and imply... but sometimes it's enough just to say. That's my two cents anyway.
  6. It's a bit of a smaller gripe than the usual stuff but, I figure it's worth mentioning: If you can't type quickly, please don't try to do it in the middle of combat. Especially if it's something that will spark more conversation (like a critique or complaint). I've had a couple instances now where someone, user a healer, decides they need to speak up about something - which is fair and there's nothing wrong with it - but they prioritize it over keeping the tank up as they stand there motionless. And it doesn't really help the situation when the writing that you felt was more important than healing is something incensing and/or degrading. Then not only did you let people die, then you're just rubbing salt in the wound as you berate the people you failed to keep up. Or, in a different role... you get tanks who decide to have a full dissertation over something and we're stuck waiting for him to wrap up before we can continue. Or a DPS or two that feel that being chatty (usually in a negative way, it's not quite so bad when folks are being friendly but I feel there's still a limit there) is more important than doing damage or avoiding AoE damage and the like. I won't even act like I haven't tried sometimes and miscalculated my typing speed. But usually in those cases I usually cancel out of what I'm trying to say and save it for after! In my case, the most recent incident was a healer that felt the need to tell people how they should be running the dungeon was more important than keeping them up through said dungeon. And during boss fights. So while he's trying to lecture us, the tank keeps dropping and then we wipe while the healer stands there typing at his leisure. Good times. :frustrated:
  7. I think the entire point has become moot by this point considering Balmung is on complete lock-down due to its population size. No new characters, no transfers in, nothing. So even if consolidating the RP on Balmung was the right thing (which I am of the opinion it is not, but that's irrelevant to this point), there is no way to do it at this point. But as it stands, we have a handful of large RP communities for folks that want that (Balmung if you were lucky to be on it before the lock, Mateus, Omega for our EU pals) and a smattering of smaller RP communities over other servers for those who might want that smaller, tighter knit RP community. A healthy amount of choices that - I would hope - are all doing decently well.
  8. Daw, Chachan, thank you for the art shoutout ;A; Those are still some of my favorites that I worked on. <3 Don't mind the number of alts! Truth be told, each one had been leveled with a friend or two at the time, so I could experience story with them and a new journey! I like to make up stories for them, whether they get RP or not, just because! Giant, doofdragon man could probably use more smol friends though! I bet they'd get along, with ties to being Doman and whatnot! Maybe nostalgia trips or somethiiing! I'll poke you soon, Chachan! Sounds good to me! I'll be looking forward to it! The world needs more doof-antics. (... and I totally feel you on the "giving characters personalities" thing. It's why, despite never RPing in WoW, my NE Hunter had a whole backstory in my head.)
  9. A wild Shadottie! If you haven't seen Shad's art yet, you should! The piece I commished still serves as the header for my Tumblr page! As for RP, I may not have as many characters to throw around, but I still have Chachan for the friendly dork that he is. So he might do well with one (or more) of the folks in your roster.
  10. If you like generally happy and friendly with a chance for various more serious themes, I can always offer my little Lalafell Chachan! He actually tried the hero route when he first came to Eorzea from Doma... but a lot of what happened made him realize how much he actually doesn't like hurting people at all and has returned to a more peaceful life of smithing. Though, that doesn't mean he can't scuffle a little if needed - he is just super against it if it's at all avoidable. So, he could make for a friend... someone to fix up her rapier should she be around in Ul'dah... and maybe get dragged along due to his still wanting to help as many people as possible. The only real difficulty I see is the play time - I'm EST and I usually try to be in bed by 10/11 pm (so 8/9 your time) on work nights and my Saturdays/Sundays are already "reserved" for a couple other folks I RP with - but we might still be able to finagle something. Maybe on a Friday night or something!
  11. That seems about right. Just sort of... around. Or stabled/tied up somewhere. Or doing whatever else it might be doing based on whatever personality you might have attributed to your mount. Avenger, for example, is Chachan's draught chocobo who is basically the horsebird equivalent of one of those super friendly big dogs that think they're actually teeny dogs. So if he's around other mounts, he often tries to make friends and play and whatnot during those sorts of situations. Despite being far too large for such antics most of the time. Gogon actually has a barren female named Annelace who I haven't really used in ages. Her thing is that, despite being unable to lay eggs, she's still super protective and mothering of those that she considers her "chicks." So she often lurks nearby, giving the side-eye to anyone or anything that might cause trouble. Makes for an interesting side-scene if nothing else.
  12. Welcome to the RPC! Mateus is indeed the current "go-to" server for RP with Balmung and Gilgamesh locked down until further notice due to overpopulation. Omega (and Louisoix, I think?) are also RP options, but those are primarily for the EU community, I think? So unless you're playing on EU hours (or are in the EU yourself!), your times might clash with most of the RP populace there. There are also a lot of little RP hubs here and there - Fairie, Jenova, and a few others spring to mind. But if you're looking for more open RP, I think Mateus (or Omega if EU) will be your best bet.
  13. A vaguely related question on this as the player of the confused little potato who somehow won the last Mr. Eorzea competition... I remember being approached at some point when plannings for the next one were being made about Chachan ending up as one of the judges. Was that a separate group or are you working with those folks, Maril? Because the idea of the little dork having to pick favorites amuses me and I was curious if that was still on the table.
  14. Gegenji

    New-ish!

DRP - Dark RP, I guess? I read it as DERP and it amuses me more. MRP - Mature RP. CRP - Carpenter! LMNOPRP - Light-Medium, No Popotoes RP (I made that one up)
  15. As a warning, Balmung is still currently on lockdown and won't accept new or transferred characters. The alternative is currently Mateus (or Omega and... Louisoix, I think?... if you're EU), though there are small RP communities scattered about a few other servers like Jenova and... I wanna say Faerie. In either case, even though Balmung's off the market right now, there's still plenty of other places to get your RP on! I wish you the best of luck and hope you find yourself your own little place in the RP community. (And, of course, there's always the options of RPing via Discord or on the forums here which can happen regardless of server!)
  16. I forgot this thread was a thing... darn sticky threads. Anyway! I've been squeeing all over about it elsewhere, but I suppose I should mention it in here too if folks want to come see/use it... Usagenji Ironworks Balmung - Goblet, Ward 11, Plot 16 Chachan's smithy and abode in Ul'dah. Crafts high-quality armor and also does repairs for both armor and weapons.
  17. Hopefully we'll bump into you! We're making a whole shebang about heading out that way... so there's a lot of prep work both ICly and OOCly for the journey! Once we get that panned out, we'll be swinging out that way. I'm usually in-game by about 6-6:30pm EST (or is it EDT right now? I can never remember) during the week. If I'm not on Chachan, I'm likely on his older brother Gogon. Right out the gate I'm usually knocking out roulettes and such, so I might be in dungeons and the like (especially Tue/Wed, I try to knock out all the Omega stuff because relatively quick and easy loot) but most often it's usually just as a Thing to Do and I'm totally up for some manner of RP instead. I hope you don't mind if I continue making stuff up, though. A lot of your questions I don't think there's any real in-game lore on (alloys of the various metals beyond ones stated as such)... so I'm kinda freewheeling on the answers.
  18. Another bump specifically to announce the (kinda-sorta) grand opening of the Usagenji Ironworks in its new locale of the Goblet (Ward 11, Plot 16)! I had it crammed into FC rooms and had thought about moving it to an apartment, but we've finally managed to get a small plot thanks to Bryte Darklyt (and special thanks to Lucerna for bringing it to our attention)! It's still a bit of a work in progress, but it's to the point that I'm more that willing to use the place as a locale for RP! Exclamation point! ... As such, I've added a new section to the opening post with a screenshot of the place, the location, and a few other locales one can find Chachan! I look forward to hearing from and (hopefully) RPing with you!
  19. I noticed your character doesn't like cities too much... but if you're swinging around Ul'dah for any reason, I have a little smith who runs a shop in the Goblet. It's primarily armorsmithing since his pacifism makes him less eager to craft weaponry, but he does do weapon repairs. He's Doman as well, so Sylve might find his native expertise in maintaining and repairing his favored blade of choice handy. The two being optimistic folk might mean they might hit it off on a friend level too. Chachan's always up for meeting and making new friends.
  20. Is it really, though? How is his summoning any different than using Nidhogg's eyes and the worship/anguish of a people to become King Thordan or Shinryuu? Ancient items filled with aetheric power and a source to draw worship and shape from. One really has to wonder if the gods exist at all (beyond perhaps Hydaelyn and Zodiark), leaving any that are "summoned" to be effectively Primals - beings summoned into the world via aether and desire.
  21. I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. There are plenty of folks who don't do the DRK thing and instead are just "dude with big sword." A rapier is a simple enough weapon that I think you can get away with just being a fencer or something similar without having to go the whole RDM route. The only complication I could see is potentially having to tell folks that the crystal isn't there or something if you're running just the sword.
  22. Yeah, I've frequently had situations where I felt like I "needed" to explain why my character was going to a thing. Or, more frequently, why they couldn't - varying from it being "too far away" to being caught up in other RP situations. "Oh, he's stuck on an island right now, so he couldn't be able to attend X." It's kept me from a few things... Meanwhile, there are those who are adaptable enough that some random RP could be out in the middle of Coerthas and they can manage to finagle "I'M HERE NOW" into it. Whether they are actually fitting it into an actual RP timeline, bubbling it, or just RPing for the sake of it without any plan to really have it "count," I don't know. But it's definitely amazing to see people who can adjust to scenes/locations so smoothly - it's a skill I'm still trying to hone myself.
  23. I use RL time and will only reference how late/early it is when the game's time of day (general evening, morning, etc.) matches up with what I see irl. I never reference the time of day it is unless it's been explicitly stated (e.g. if the RP event says "this evening", it's set at the evening). Because... if I used the "my time IRL" rule, it'd immediately clash with 80% of the players I meet. <_<; I must admit it disorientates me sometimes when another character is like, "good afternoon," but it's dark outside and my parents are in bed already. I never argue or anything, but it takes me a minute. There's a reason why I like to (somewhat jokingly) use the term "relative time greeting!" when interacting with folks that may be in vastly differing time zones than me. ... And, again, why I think it's usually a good idea to set the "time" of the RP scene along with the location if there's uncertainty. Or read into what time it's being assumed (if at all) during casual RP as mentioned here - if folks are eating dinner at the tavern, then you can probably assume an evening time in the scene, for example. Or you could always just ask, or help determine a time of day for the scene if needed.
  24. I figure time of day is just part of the scene setting. You can default to current time, but it's just as easy to just say "this RP situation is happening around x time." So, if you wanted an RP to take place in late evening, you just dictate it either OOCly or in the emotes that it is late evening, regardless of Eorzean or Real Time.
  25. If you want some solid Xaela and Dotharl lore, I highly recommend getting out to the Steppes in Stormblood if you can. There's an entire section of the MSQ (and accompanying sidequests) out there that are all about the Xaela, plus you dip by a camp of Dotharl during it as well. If you can't, hopefully someone will swing by with relevant quotes and the like... but in the meantime I'm going to generalize what I can remember from there. The Dotharl, in particular, are a very warlike and aggressive tribe - but before SB shed some light on them, that just meant many Dotharl players just made them unnecessarily bloodthirsty and violent for no real reason. However, the MSQ managed to explain specifically why they're so very gungho. And that is they believe in reincarnation. Specifically that if they perform grand enough deeds for the Dotharl tribe, they will be reborn not too long after their moment of glorious demise. Even people of other tribes could be reborn as a Dotharl if they did something important enough for them. That's why they're such an aggressive tribe; they have a sort of zealousness to them that is wrought from this belief. It's really kind of interesting and puts an unique twist on why they behave the way that they do. As for Warrior, I do recall (though I have yet to do it myself) that the level 60-70 WAR quests actually touch on a Xaela who is a Warrior. Something about them basically falling into an uncontrollable rage (their Inner Beast, which they were unaware was controllable, I think?) and thus those that do often end up separated from their tribe since they're a threat to not just their enemies but to their own allies as well. Even with a tribe as aggressive as the Dotharl, I'm sure none of them would want to fall to the axe-edge of a tribe-mate. Which could theoretically give a reason why your Dotharl Warrior is out and about, away from her tribe like she is. If you want to go that route, of course. There could be plenty of other reasons, that's just an idea that pops into mind thinking on what bits of lore I know offhand. Hopefully, though, someone will follow up with something a bit more substantial than my remembrances and musings. Good luck with your character and happy RPing!
