This is... actually a really neat idea. I'd have to drop my current apartment and snag a new one and furnish it up but... hm... I'll let you know if I follow up on this! EDIT: Okay, I ended up moving apartments and throwing... something together. I'm not entirely sure if I went too silly on it or rushed it too much but... at least there's something there for right now. Apartment 25. Feel free to give ideas and critiques, of course!

Lala Dark Knight Gal Looking for Connections
Gegenji replied to Rurua's topic in Chronicled Connections
Well, if she's around Ul'dah and needs some work on those spiky bits of her armor - Chachan is an armorsmith! And he's dealt with gruff customers before, too, so perhaps they could become friends! ... If you don't mind a cheerful pacifist as a buddy, of course. -
Chachan has family in the Toll so he COULD've done A... if it wasn't three hours before Grindstone time. Toss me in for B, I think. He can help make delivery!

Just to add on this, some people can and have played using skills and weapons that were not accessible at the time. For example: even before Mechanist existed, there were people RPing using guns. Many people can and have described summoning Egis that are not accessible to the existing Summoner job - and doing Trances beyond Bahamut. Heck, I have a character on Mateus who is a Puppetmaster (and I know of at least one other person who describes their character's "job" as Puppetmaster) and the Judge is (shocking no one) effectively a FFTA Judgemaster. Plus, there's technically a club in the game anyway (it's a PVP-earned model for DRK, I believe - plus the... machati or whatever they're called that PLD/GLD can use are very club like)... and at the Grindstone I've seen people who boast a wide range of both conventional and unconventional weaponry.

I'll sign up for B, if there's still room... and be on Reserve for it otherwise! -
Worse come to worse, you can make it an RP moment and interact with a crafting-type character ICly (like my character Chachan!). In fact, I like to jokingly head-canon that the old Asuran gear (the old Doman-looking gear from relatively early in HW, now relegated to Seals in that tavern in Ishgard, but I digress...) was actually made en masse by Chachan's father when he and the rest of Chachanji's family fled from the razing to Eorzea. So, if someone wanted to have that sort of armor, it was easy enough to just say they got it from him. It's stated that a lot of the stuff Rowena makes are replicas. That means anyone could likely do the same if they have the right materials and a design to follow. So if you want there to be some degree of lore significance to what you're wearing, you could bring a sketch or other example of the gear to the appropriate crafter and have them make it to those specifications. Otherwise, you can just have said crafter make it and it "just so happens" to end up looking like that! Those are my thoughts on the matter, anyway.

... I know folks have mixed feelings about Dragon Ball Super but... GODDAMN I love this song.

I thought a bit about this on the way to work this morning and this is what came to mind: Chachan's mental dreamscape would actually be generally pleasant. The first thing that came to mind was a pleasant, sunny field full of sunflowers, rippling grass, and calm little streams and ponds. Pretty idyllic and friendly. His smithy would likely be there, set on a little hill at the center, along with other places he has positive memories of - like the Quicksand or Tiroro's apartment. However, on the fringes - just on the edges of view from the center of the field - are darker things. A mental copy of the ruins of Doma, a Garlean Castrum, the Dimwold. Scenes of all the darker turns of his life made manifest, forever in the back of his mind - never forgotten. And yet - between all of these, perhaps even seguing from them - is that happy field. Existing either because of them, or in spite of them. Something like that, anyway.
-
Worst I do, honestly, is poke fun a little if the typo is amusing. Good-natured ribbing and the like, though I'd certainly stop it if it bothered the person in question.

The RP Healer Manifesto, slightly cross-posted from Tumblr
Gegenji replied to Nevivi Nevi's topic in RP Discussion
Ah, okay, that makes more sense. You're describing your healing with an intended effect, but not insisting that would be it - allowing the person being healed to determine how effective the healing is at just doing that, rather than go off and have it do whatever they want it to independent of your intentions. Just like you can describe the intent of the attack, but it's still on the defender to decide to whether they take it and how they take it. To be fair, I also wasn't even thinking to the degree of "severed limb" either. I was thinking on the more low-key healing like... "This will close the wound, but you'll feel sore for a few days"-level type stuff. Since that technically is dictating how the healed target is going to feel, you know? Not letting the person being healed decide whether or not they're going to feel sore. It just seems more exaggerated in inane when you jump to "severed limb" territory. I guess I'm mostly just playing Devil's Advocate on the situation? I'm not quite sure anymore. -

Not to devalue your point - which is very fair in regards to accepting IC repercussions for IC actions and promoting more spontaneous RP but... These two bits here seem in conflict with each other. You're effectively saying to not dictate how well the healing works, and then in a sidebar mention how you were dictating how your healing works. For true player agency, if the person being healed wants to have the heal patch everything up, isn't that their prerogative? It's personal preference to want to spend time recovering, and - while I do agree there's merit and value in RPing that recovery, I've done it myself - isn't it just as bad to declare your heal a 'quick fix' when the person being healed doesn't want it to be? -
Restrictions on housing and servers will be lifted on Feb 20
Gegenji replied to Skae's topic in FFXIV News
I saw this on Discord! I knew that the housing was going to open up sooner or later (which I'm pretty glad for, there's actually a lot of empty plots in my ward - my neighbors all moved away!)... but I didn't know they were going to open up the Congested servers too... I'm actually looking forward to the influx of potentially new RPers onto Balmung. -
I have good news and bad news. The good news is that you have a proper Lalafellin name! The bad news is... it's actually for a Plainsfolk. Lalafell all have a sort of musical pattern to their names, which varies a little between the clans. For males, you have the Dunesfolk's pattern of AAC BBC (like my own Chachanji Gegenji. Cha-Cha-nji Ge-Ge-nji) or the Plainsfolks' more flexible AC BC (like our "good friend" Teledji Adeledji. Te-Ledji Ade-Ledji). For females, they're actually much simpler. Dunesfolk follow a AAB AB pattern (Momodi Modi of the Quicksand, for example. Mo-Mo-Di Mo-Di) while Plainsfolk are ABB AB (Utata Uta from the Void Arc storyline, U-Ta-Ta U-Ta). So, your lady Dunesfolk would follow the AAB AB pattern - which would be Iico Ico in this case. However! It's... not really all that big of a deal. Just because there is a recommended naming convention doesn't mean you have to stick with it. I've seen plenty of Lalafell who use the naming conventions of the other clan and even of the other gender at times! And several just eschew the convention entirely. So, if you like the name? Stick with it! Only dorks like me who have the Lalafellin naming scheme memorized are really going to notice.

staff RPC goes Invision Power - Q&A
Gegenji replied to Unnamed Mercenary's topic in Forum Announcements
It should be noted I had to hide the chat bar to access that Theme dropdown option, and then the option to bring the chat bar back up wasn't available for me when I switched to the IPS4 Black option. ... In fact, the normal IPS4 option also does the same thing. -
Oh, definitely. I just thought the Suddenly Afro idea amusing and just wanted to share. I'm of the camp that doesn't mind some mild catlike mannerisms in a Miqo'te. Ears and tails helping to display emotion and such. Maybe even a bit of purring since apparently there's an NPC that does that. It just gets weird for me when I hear Miqo'te start talking about how they use litter boxes and the like. I don't know if they're just being silly or they actually believe that's what their Miqo'te use instead of normal facilities.
-
... now I'm imagining a startled Miqo suddenly having a afro. And I don't see why this is a bad thing.
-
I dunno. Their tails definitely straighten in their /angry emote. So I like to imagine their tails might poof out when sufficiently startled.

If you want to use the example set by the pirates of Satasha (and Hellbreaker Isle, I think?)... while they use hounds, they also have Couerls apparently at their beck and call as well. So they might work as an alternative - and they're native to La Noscea! I mean, being chased down by a vicious electro-panther sounds pretty intimidating. Though, there's nothing keeping you from looking at the other beasts of Hydaelyn and pick something you think could work and just have this be a unique quirk of that lord (or the guardian pet in question). Or you could just have "hounds" be usual guards. I mean, having arrows and magic coming flying at you from trained muscle can also be pretty harrowing. Or maybe they could have some beast tribe grunts - not technically human (hence "beast" tribes) - but they could both be pliant and yet quite dangerous to fight (like the Amaljaa!). And if you want to paint the lord as someone (or has someone in his employ) who dabbles in the darker forces, there's always bound Voidsent minions. And if you're willing to diverge from living guard dogs, there's plenty of other options there too. Animated golems and repurposed Magitek robots simply do their task without remorse and could be equally as worrisome to see trudging relentlessly at you. Even a well armed Mammet could be threatening if done right, I'm sure. Hope some of this helps!
-
No need to robot in like that.

I'll try to attend this on Gaines! If nothing else, he can certainly do some showmanship.

HCdn0zg6NDM ... Okay, seriously, I'm actually listening to this a lot recently. It's very catchy: 9CtV4-Pwaoc

My guess is she does get her memories back... but then also has the memories of the "nice times" she had as just Tsuyu. So she'll be forced to reconcile whether she wants to return to being Yotsuyu or continue on as Tsuyu. Whether she's willing to come to terms with what was done to her, what she did, and... whether or not she's willing to let go and start over.
