1. Though December has been a month of rest for the Jackals, Starlight was indeed full of joy! We started off the season to be jolly with a feast that included an enormous turkey, capable of feeding about a dozen Jackals, including Bert and Thya! And of course, there was also cake! http://files.enjin.com.s3.amazonaws.com/925363/module_gallery/original/2452462.jpg[/img] Bonus: Lalafell screenshot. http://assets.enjin.com/wall_embed_images/1450471687_d983ce1e12a0a92d71a9aca0d9ca1250.jpg[/img] On their second attempt, Ludivine and Cassandra were finally wedded, the ceremony was attended by many Jackals and other friends of the couple, as well as their adoptive dog-son, the majestic Ruffles. http://files.enjin.com.s3.amazonaws.com/925363/module_gallery/original/2453271.jpg[/img] A Secret Santa was also part of the festivities! But with Starlight now over and the heavens turned, the Jackals once again face new challenges! The first job of the year was a rescue operation headed by Cass. The Jackals saved a dozen Coeurl kittens, some of which were even adopted (because we needed more cats in the house)! The Jackals received an ominous warning however. Will there be consequences? Only the future will tell! http://files.enjin.com.s3.amazonaws.com/925363/module_gallery/original/2487127.jpg[/img] A little R&R was in order, and so the Jackals enjoyed themselves at the Kindred's Friendly Date Auction and at the year's first Sunny Seaside Bar! The new year also called for a new menu! https://i.imgur.com/NVX9KzD.jpg[/img] Despite the abundance of cats in the house, the Jackals somehow noticed that one of them was missing! Thya was gone, and so a second kitten rescue was organized. It didn't go quite as well as the first one however, several Jackals were injured and Thya's whereabouts are still uncertain. She will no doubt be found though, for no Jackal will be left behind! Stay tuned for more kitten rescuing! We also have special things planned for our one-year anniversary, coming up next week!
2. We've got a new stall opening up this Sunday, it's a pet store! 3. Prosperous times for the Jackals! A successful rescue operation was conducted in Southern Thanalan, resulting in the release of three prisoners from the clutches of the Amalj'aa. Meanwhile, progress was made in the ongoing campaign against the cult of the Followers of the New Dream. Though the leaders of the cult remain free, the Jackals were able to obtain an object that is coveted by Mr. Sand and his gang. All this with no significant injuries to any of our folks! The Jackals’ latest job wasn’t quite as successful, however. Hired to find and escort someone to safety, the group found nothing but the dead body of the woman they were meant to protect. Although no Jackals were hurt, there’s definitely a storm in the horizon. http://files.enjin.com.s3.amazonaws.com/925363/module_gallery/original/2385517.jpg[/img] The past couple of weeks brought some much needed leisure time for our members as well. The last edition of the Sunny Seaside Bar included a mixology contest that was won by Nailah, with ‘The Rainbow’, which will now be permanently featured on our menu. There was even time for a fishing trip! The Jackals also welcomed two new members, Ebony Spring and Kalam’ra Shadhavar! http://files.enjin.com.s3.amazonaws.com/925363/module_gallery/original/2379863.jpg[/img] http://files.enjin.com.s3.amazonaws.com/925363/module_gallery/original/2384767.jpg[/img] Last but not least, thanks to the effort of Kilid, Xiv and all other contributors, the Jackalendar is complete! We get to show all of Eorzea our radiant beauty, and it’s for charity!
4. I'm the Hyur lover. And the adorable pup is named Ruffles.
5. So many replies! Thank you all. Sounsyy, you never cease to amaze me, thank you so much for sharing. Warren, I would be inclined to agree with your assessment, it makes perfect sense. Also, Hammersmith, Gegenji and Nailah, I really appreciate the help, you've all shed some light on my questions.
6. As I'm writing my character's backstory, I've started to wonder more and more how money works within the lore of the game. I hope my thoughts and questions haven't already been answered in another post, I tried to look for old posts discussing this but I didn't find anything. Also, it seems that Google searches on this subject tend to lead to gold selling websites, so I once again bug you all with silly questions. The official currency of Eorzea is gil, and it exists only in the form of coins, no paper money. Correct? Are there alternative currencies though? Allagan pieces, for instance. Those would seem like a good candidate for an alternative currency that would allow someone to carry larger quantities of money without dragging a cart of coins around. How common are Allagan pieces though? Would it be something that any wealthy character could or would get their hands on? Also, are there other alternatives that are generally used instead of gil? Secondly, what about safekeeping? There seems to be no banking system within the lore of the game, as far as I can tell. It all goes through retainers. But the retainers aren't associated with any type of banking institutions, as far as I know. So, if someone wealthy wanted to keep his money safe, short of building his own vault for it, he would have to find a retainer he could trust, correct? I know these are probably oddly specific questions, but the lack of a banking system in particular sort of confuses me, so I just want to make sure that I'm not missing anything. Also, please do let me know if I've made any incorrect assumptions, I would really appreciate any information on this subject.
7. I am in awe of your encyclopedic knowledge of FFXIV lore, Sounsyy. ^^ And I really appreciate the time you took to reply, it's immensely helpful.
8. That's a good point Warren. Your last paragraph in particular is in line with many depictions of necromancy and non-magical reanimation. The idea that when you bring someone back, only the shell comes back, inhabited by something else. You guys all have some impressive knowledge of the lore. ^^
9. Thanks Liandri and Nako'li. ^^ As for the Alchemist quest line, I'll do the next best thing and look for the cutscenes on Youtube.
10. Hehe, yeah, that's exactly what I thought as well. Regarding Haukke manor, I'm going to take a look at the cutscenes later. But every little bit helps.
11. I swear I have the attention span of a squirrel sometimes. Tam-Tara Deepcroft is a great example, thank you. ^^ I must say I don't quite remember the Haukke Manor storylines though, I'm going to look into it. Fortunately, Youtube seems to have cutscene videos of everything. Also, thank you for your reply Warren, that helps.
12. Hey everyone, I was wondering what lore information there is on necromancy, if there is anything. Are there examples of it in the storyline? Is there any attempt to revive the dead? I've seen zombies in the Hildibrand questline but I can't remember whether they're explained at all. Or even if it's meant to be taken seriously, given the general tone of those sidequests. Finally, on a related note, burial is part of the standard funerary customs in Eorzea, right? Is there anything unusual about funerals in Eorzea? Any resources, posts or videos you would be willing to share related to these questions would be very much appreciated.
13. Thank you all so much for the help, this gives me a good idea of how to fit my character's background into that particular place and time.
14. Hi everyone, Ever since I came up with my character, I've kept some of the details of her background somewhat vague. I did this both because I didn't know much about the plot and also so that I'd have some freedom to adjust the background depending on how I actually roleplayed Cass, who ended up being slightly different from what I'd originally planned. Now I'm finally getting around to dotting the i's and crossing the t's, because I want to start getting into the character's background ICly. Most of the things I've decided on are completely independent of the plot, so there are no problems there, but there's one thing in particular that I would like to know more about in order to flesh out some of the details. I'm talking about the Garlean invasion of the Black Shroud during 1.0. All I seem to be able to ascertain from the resources I've found is that the Garleans invaded and destroyed Sylph settlements / killed Sylphs. Is that the extent of it? Did they only attack Sylphs? Was the rest of the Shroud affected? Did they attack Gridania? I know it's kind of a specific question and I'm sorry for the trouble, but I haven't found much on this subject and I thought someone here might know more. Any additional information on this might be helpful for me to determine what happened to my character and how it happened, hence my questions. Thank you.
15. Cass is sort of unusual when it comes to flirting because she's terrible at relationships and she has too many trust issues to sleep around. So for all intents and purposes she really shouldn't be flirty. But she can be, mostly because she enjoys pushing buttons. She tends to look for something she can use to tease the other person, strangers and friends alike. Half the time people don't take it well, which is fine by her because she's perfectly happy to just get a rise out of someone. It's not uncommon for other characters to respond in kind though, which she enjoys just as much, it becomes sort of a contest for her and it often turns into outright flirting. Since she's really only into the interaction and not into where it leads to, she usually just makes up an excuse to leave as soon as it becomes too much for her. Which has the added effect of leaving them wanting more, but it's not like she minds the attention anyway.
16. Can't go that long without listening to this: -jklCt-GG0U
17. I just wanna say that I had the pleasure of RPing with the little thief tonight and it was a lot of fun. ^^ Looking forward to dealing with more of her mischief.
18. Hi Aelwyna, It's good to see more EU RPers joining us. Poke me in-game when you do transfer to Balmung, I'll be happy to RP with you.
19. I'd definitely like to attend if it's GMT-friendly. ^^ Cass drinks too much as it is, she might as well try to beat others at it.
20. I wanted to attend but I wasn't able to. Cass wants cake. I'll be there for the next one.
21. She mainly wants to not be alone. Not that she'd say that.
