kugane looks great. i love the openness and the animated NPCs make the city seem much more alive compared to arr cities i really hope it becomes a hub for RP

if OP is the same as the OF equivalent of this thread, he suggests increasing monthly sub rates to pay for 'maintaining high population servers'

god forbid we grow a new rp community so that new and old players alike can make characters without shelling out $18 or being completely locked out of the server really all this Balmung centralism has only made the problem worse. the only reason why you think the smaller servers don't have sustainable RP communities is because everyone and their mom consolidates on Balmung it's this BALMUNG OR GO HOME attitude that prevents the growth of alternate RP communities. You're only going to discourage new players from even TRYING at building a new community with that type of talk. Like Eli mentioned above me, other games have multiple RP servers that thrive just fine. We should be excited that Mateus' RP scene is growing.

It's very unlikely that I'd transfer my main off Balmung. If the new server was cool enough I'd make an alt or something. Unless the RP server is started from scratch, something like these two should be more like guidelines instead of actual forcible rules I think. I'd imagine there to be a huge outcry if they officially designated an already existing server RP and forced many players to change their names and stuff.

It's not like SE closed Balmung for shits and giggles. If the server's reach critical population (which affects the gameplay for everyone already on the server, potentially the whole datacenter come Stormblood), then there's really nothing we should do in terms of pressuring SE to unlock it. I totally get that we want new RPers, friends, and whoever else to come. I think it REALLY sucks. But if the server's a balloon filled with water ready to burst, then rallying petitions to fill it with more water is kind of, to me, inconsiderate? And c'mon, let's be real. RPers aren't the only ones on Balmung. Imagine the backlash we'd receive (even unjustified) if they rescinded the anti-transfers due to all the moaning and the datacenter becomes crash city when the new expansion drops.

I definitely agree that the word temporary doesn't hold significant weight. > ex. character creator. But someone earlier in this thread mentioned that they did the same thing in preparation for HW launch. I don't remember if this is true or not (i've never transferred a character before), but that fact might bode well for transfers opening back up eventually. I agree with Zaviire here that if there's a decline, the transfers will likely open back up. I think maybe the determent might stem from how everything is Balmung-centric. As RPers, we've all become reliant on this particular server. And with good reason. It's got the largest RP population and a sea of diverse characters. Of course people are going to want in on it. I've nothing against it. My concern is if the server is unable support the congestion. It's a bit of a problem if a new player comes along and is deterred by Balmung not being open (As if the $18 wasn't determent enough already). That already speaks volumes of the monopoly it holds. There needs to be an alternative available. As others have mentioned, I see the solution being the establishment of RP communities on another server. But I'm aware this is way easier said than done.

I never said you were saying it's a good thing, nor have I dismissed anyone new or lost. I was rolling my eyes at the tone of your post. If you read my previous post (or anyone else's), and got a 'Fuck you I got mine' impression, it would serve you better to actually quote the people you've got the impression from and constructively respond to their points, and not just make shady comments about how they're coming across to you. It was just an unnecessary thing to say.

When you say that Balmung being closed will cause new players to go elsewhere, are you saying new players will go to other games or servers? I think we oughta slow down with all the doomsaying. Balmung temporarily closing its doors due to high congestion near expansion launch won't be the end of RP as we know it. We've not yet seen how this will affect the roleplay community. Who knows? Maybe this could potentially lead to a boon for RP on other servers. :roll:

Great news, imo. I was worried that there would be stability issues due to Balmung's staggering population come Stormblood launch. There will probably still be some (+ long queues), but anything that even slightly mitigates the issues I faced during HW launch would be amazing. I mean, Balmung's RP community is going to remain large and diverse regardless of the anti-transfers. It's not as if they're forcing us off the server. People have been circumventing Balmung's highly congested status through server transfers since forever. It was only a matter of time. Yeah it sucks for new players wanting to roleplay with a large & diverse community, but I'm assuming this decision is being made to put OUR quality of experience to the forefront. And by our I mean we the players already on the server who'd have to deal with the negative effects of server congestion when SB hits.

Doling out original content (Screenshot edits, art, etc.) will certainly get you noticed. Engage in the community often. Run an event or two and network with others.

I understand the whole social anxiety can inhibit interaction thing but then poses the question of whether or not they should even be roleplaying (or, at least, expect to be roleplayed with) I mean. RPing is social at its core. It takes two to tango. Enabling this type of behavior is only going to serve as a detriment to the community. If you can't find RP because all you do is sit in the QS all day and are too shy to participate then that isn't the community's problem, it's your problem.
