  1. Honestly I don't think I've been to a public event where 100% (or even remotely close) of the participants were roleplaying in private. There are usually many others who are typing out in the open and are willing to interact. Just read the room and approach the person who's actively participating in public discourse. Not everyone present will be standing there with open arms, especially if they have their own plotlines going on. Yeah, some people will stick to their cliques. It's inevitable. People are usually more comfortable roleplaying with people they know, not to mention it's completely fair for characters with an established relationship to stick near each other at a party.
  2. This is purely anecdotal, but I've never ever had trouble finding roleplay -- the community is just massive on Balmung. A lot of people are shy so are hesitant to engage others, but are ecstatic whenever you give their character the time of day. Join a FC, go to the Quicksand, go to (smaller) events. Actually have a character that goes up to people and engages conversation. What especially annoys me is when a shy person roleplays an equally shy character and ends up feeling left out because they're overly reliant upon others approaching them instead of the other way around. Not saying you're like this OP, it's just behavior I've noted from people with similar complaints. And of course it isn't just shy characters who have this problem. Some people play uninteresting characters. Or maybe their writing is horrendous. Or maybe their gimmick ruins your immersion. Or maybe something something something. But that's the great thing about Balmung. IMHO our roleplay population is very diverse, and there's at least someone for everyone. So I simply find it hard to believe that it's THAT difficult for someone to find roleplay unless they're inhibiting themselves in some shape or form (knowingly or unknowingly). I won't be as... uh, harsh as the Angry Ala Mhigan Grandma, but I share her assessment that sometimes we must look at ourselves to discover the problem.
  3. I'd love jump potions and I've been anticipating for them. I also think the 'No jump potions b/c XYZ won't have the skill!' and 'No jump potions b/c they need to immerse themselves in the story and world!' arguments are bogus. Some people just want to get on and play with their friends, and not suffer through a million cutscenes and countless hide-and-seek quests with moogles. " Slay 0/5 Ixal Chieftans! " " Gather 0/10 Moongrass! " Completing these quests ad nauseam won't make you a better player. And like several other games that offer jump potions, you can simply implement some sort of in-game tutorial for players that level jump.

  8. I'm of the same leaf. In addition to the potential changes the NPC might undergo through story progression, there might be several characters who are playing the same Haurchefant. So it'll eventually become a giant mess of alternate timelines and clones if you were to interact with more than just one. It also crosses into that weird (and sometimes annoying) zone of "Well, my character is bffs with HAURCHEFANT!" My experience was with very minor named NPCs, who are in a lot of ways generic. (One of them was a brass blade npc, for example). -steps into the Grindstone- It is I, Ser Aymeric the Blue -- Lord Commander of the Temple Knights. I've come to fight. :cactuar:
  9. I never thought much of it when they first started to appear -- I assumed they weren't even roleplayers and were just cosplaying. But over the course of the last year, Max ended up interacting with several, and I found myself rather enjoying the experience. Albeit they weren't major characters but still. I still occasionally see PCs based off of Y'shtola, Minfilia, Papalymo, Aymeric, etc. Some of them roleplayers, some of them not. It makes me wonder how many people are actually willing to RP with them. What's your opinion? tl;dr : some players roleplay npcs (ie. an Estinien RPer). what is your stance and are you opposed to rping with them?
  10. I. Thou shalt not roleplay in the Quicksand. II. Thou shalt avoid really boring 'let's sit here and talk about nothing for two hours' interactions. III. Thou shalt not have cyber sex. IV. Thou shalt not grace the company of Sue's and Stu's. V. Thou shalt never conflate IC for OOC, and vice versa. VI. Thou shalt stay in compliance with lore. VII. Thou shalt not be boring and unwilling to take control, contribute, or guide scenes along. VIII. Thou shalt always be appropriately dressed for the locale. IX. Thou shalt avoid courtesan-like characters whose sole purpose is to seduce thou. X. Thou shalt keep dialogue and prose clear, coherent, and comprehensible for all. No exaggerated cockney accents that make it difficult for thou to understand; "Wotcha. 'a 're ya doin'? 'ave ya been ter the quick sand recently? bloody 'ells I got a splinter from fightin' a 'arge tree and it 'urts loike a bizzich! 'eaven and 'ell. i'm out ter gridania ter clock me sister and 'em! bye!"
  11. Np! I'd like to take back something I said though, saying that I'd completely get rid of the voidsent plotline. I think the void-touched thing can still be done, just that the execution would require some polishing. IIRC, A succubus will inject her soul into the deceased body of a woman. So a suggestion/example would be that Luna was near death during the ritual -- fooling the cultists into believing that she was dead, only to unknowingly insert Lu'Ventras' soul into the truly-alive Raen, which caused the body-sharing conundrum. I'd also have Lu'Ventras' influence become a more apparent staple in Luna's mind and personality. So that the presence of the succubus is felt rather obviously and oft negatively, instead of a thing where it's like "O, that's just my voidsent personality quirk!"
  12. obligatory 'inb4' disclaimer: Okay, here's my feedback! This isn't coming from a bad place, so I apologize in advance if any of my critiques affects you negatively. I'm not well-versed in Au Ra lore so I could be wrong about this, but iirc the Raen Clan are closely related to Doma over in Othard. Now, I'm not saying that her family can't have immigrated to the Holy See, but I do think you should explain how and why her family is seeking asylum. It's a long ways from home. Again, this warrants a more thorough backstory because as I'm reading this I'm wondering why the father would retire his family to such a place. They're being spat on, emotionally / verbally / physically abused, and their lives are being threatened on a daily basis. How dire is their situation that they find themselves completely stuck in Ishgard? Why choose to stay? I would either rewrite this entire part of her story or scrap it altogether. There's way too many holes that don't make a whole lotta sense. Firstly, why is SHE exempt from the accusation? You say her family, yet the way it's portrayed it's like she isn't a member of said family, since she isn't being punished alongside them. If these accusations are false and just a plot from the Church to root them out, why wouldn't they just execute the entire family and be done with it (or better yet, just banish the outlanders from the city)? Why not have Luna up there on the gallows as well if they're just going to accuse her immediately afterwards? Another thing about this is, if this was their plan then Luna should've been in custody. The Church is being portrayed as grossly incompetent in this story. Again, she should've been in custody if this was their plan. She shouldn't of been able to escape. Ishgard is heavily gated and fortified. This isn't plausible. Also, Coerthas hasn't always been a snowy wasteland, so there might be some issues with her timeline. Completely of my opinion, but many people who go the Void-touched route go into it with a gross underestimation of the effects of possession. Being tempered by voidsent is, ICly, very very serious and should be treated as such. NPCs and the like won't want you anywhere near their cities, especially an isolated and oft time xenophobic place like Gridania. In 1.0, the slightest touch of woodsin alone was enough to get the city up and arms about your being there. I really don't think that Gridania of all places would lug a potentially voidsent outsider (of a foreign race they'd never seen before) to their city to nurse back to health. The Elementals, I fear, would have a huge problem with that. I'd personally refrain from using NPCs of importance in your backstory, it's a bit of a turnoff to some. Also I'd like to point out that depending on your character's timeline and age, Kan-E-Senna wasn't always the Elder Seedseer. Back in 1.0, Brother E-Sumi was pretty much the HPIC (Head Padjal in Charge). Kan-E and her siblings, like most other Padjal, lived out in the wood with very scarce contact with others. I believe that was around 5-6 years ago from our current events. Again, it's hard for me to imagine that Gridania would harbor a voidsent in spite of the elementals and not just outright kill Luna after failing to purge the succubus. If you ever played the THM storyline, one of the Coco brothers gets possessed by a voidsent and they were fully prepared to kill him if they couldn't exorcise the demon. It's a morbid reality but that's how it goes. It makes absolutely no sense that Luna's parents would have a soul crystal for white magic, and that Seedseers would just allow a void-touched stranger to keep it. White Magic is so INSANELY unique and gifted upon Padjals by the Elementals. There is absolutely no way the Elementals would bestow succor to a void-touched outlander. Roleplaying a white mage under any circumstances is considered a bit taboo in the community, just due to how special and unique they are. Again, I'd like to re-emphasize that utilizing important NPCs in your backstory so intimately will be a turn off to many. Y'mhitra's apprentice? Kan-E-Stepmommy? Noooooooooooooope. IIRC Voidsent are only concerned with consuming as much aether as they can. They thrive on aether. So unless Luna is low-key eating these merchants, I don't think the control lapses should exist unless you really plan on showcasing the dread of a voidsent takeover. She should be at the center of Tam-Tara Deepcroft with the flying head of her fiance. To briefly come back to this point: There's no shame in humbling her abilities. The meta-game allows us multiple classes on a single character, but realistically mastering or even becoming competent in just one would take many years of practice. Her being a summoner / white mage / lancer is WAY too much. She either should be an arcanist, conjurer, or lancer. CRAAAAWLING IN MY SKIIIIN. I jest I jest! Ok, in closing this is what I'd do. - If insistent on Ishgard backstory, elaborate on past and cover up holes for plausibility. - Completely get rid of the voidsent plotline. Change 'Lu'Ventras' into a chocobo or something. - Pay closer attention to her timeline. Remember, Eorzea isn't stagnant. A lot of things occur over the course of several years. - Humble her abilities. She should have one specialty that stems from the base classes. Conjurer, Lancer, Arcanist, etc. - Get rid of the important NPC's in Luna's story. Replace them with OC's. - Change her birth name into something that sounds more Raen-ish. 'Lu'naha Aeg'Celes' doesn't sound like it follows the Raen naming conventions. I could be wrong though(?) I also suggest consulting with Sounsyy for help with better lore compliance! She helped me out a long time ago with several questions I had.

  19. To echo some points made already; it's hard to take Lalafell seriously. You oft encounter either the cutesy wootsy silly childlike type, the moustache twirling villain, or the weird ERP Diapered Lalafell. Most of my experiences with Lala have almost always been awkward. People also like to invest time in another person's character if they can see them as a potential fling somewhere down the line. I can only assume many roleplayers don't find Lalafell desirable in that way. I personally would love to see more fierce/mature Lalafell being played -- and not personalities that are a reflection of their childlike appearance. What accomplishments? Nanamo is a horrible example imho. Krile, Lolorito, Teledji, Papalymo, Dewlala, Papashan, THM Brothers etc. are all accomplished in their own right. Nanamo just inherited her position as a royal figurehead that lacks any meaningful power to enact change due to the Syndicate.
